ROAD TRIP doing without

"Um, I'm here to visit Barry Billington," Robbie
informed the nurse at the main counter of Eskridge
General.

"Someone special to you, no doubt!" She replied, a
smile creasing her lips, looking upon Robbie, arms
stuffed with flowers, what looked to be a five pound
box of candy and a stuffed teddy bear, red ribbon
around its neck. "Here. Let me help you with that."
She took the cutie bear from the pit of Robbie's inner
elbow.

"Thanks," Robbie said, as she held the door to Barry's
room open, stuffing the bear back in Robbie's arm.

When she let the door go, miraculously it stayed open.
On the inside Rashid held the door. With a smile, a
little on the devious side, he asked, "Need some
help?" He couldn't help but wiggle his eyebrows.

"I think I've got it," Robbie replied, not being able
to break his attention til he heard his sweetheart
yell, "That all for me?"

Now ignoring Rashid, Robbie turned to Barry, walked
along the side of the bed, all ready with apologies,
"Sorry I couldn't get to see you yesterday babe. By
the time I got the word it was too late to visit with
you."

He bent down to give Barry a peck on the cheek, but
Barry stopped him, saying, "You can't."

"I can't?"

"It might break something open."

"Could be," Robbie settled for, a close up view of the
gauze over Barry's nose, chin and one cheek. He then
did a full body scan to where his torso was tucked
under a sheet. "How did you manage to mess yourself up
so bad, babe?"

Perhaps seeing he wasn't going to steal any time away
with Robbie, Rashid excused himself from the room.

"Don't you have an education class this morning,
babe?"

Smiling, Robbie, still arms filled, replied, "Cut
it... or how else would I be able to pick up a few
things for my favorite swimmer and track star?"

"I don't have anything to stick the flowers in," Barry
said.

He watched Robbie pull the top off of the pink pitcher
and stuff them in.

"Forget drinking out of that," Barry said. "But its
okay. Rashid can get me another one." Once the box was
open there was no stopping the seepage, Barry carrying
on, saying, "Rashid's a real nice guy. He said he'll
get me anything I want."

Being wise, Robbie replies, "What? For a blowjob?"

"Did you have to go and say that!"

Barry's words cut like a knife, right across the
throat.

"Sorry babe. I was only joking. Besides, I didn't mean
`you' would be giving `him' the blowjob. Here. Look
what I brought you."

Placing the stuffed brown bear facedown on Barry's
chest, right in the position where an arm could
readily hug it, Robbie's facial expression begged for
mercy.

"Okay," Barry accepted the words of pleading
forgiveness, but added, "Rashid's not like that."

"So, he told you he was gay?"

"No," Barry replied, saying, "I told him he was gay."

"He didn't know he was gay?"

"No. I sensed something, so said to him `you're gay,
right?' and then he asked me how I could tell."

"And?"

"I told him it was gaydar. Or how else would I know?"
Barry replied, an angelic look on his face, his shiny
blond hair making his face shimmer.

Barry smiled when Robbie stated, "I guess you've got
the gift, babe!"

"Cool!"

"So when do the doc's say you can break out of this
place?"

Two things were of immediate concern to Barry. Evading
Robbie's question, he said, "I don't know how coach is
going to do without me."

Robbie, his thumb nail breaking the seal on the box of
candy, said, "Us guys can pitch in. It's not like all
of us are in the pool at once."

"I guess, but what about the track team? I don't want
Coach Torricelli going and giving my job away to
somebody else."

"Coach is not going to go and give your job away. He
just gave it to you." Then to make it sound not so
petty, Robbie says, "Even though he probably had tons
of guys lined up for your job he thought you the best
person for it, so don't you go," it came to him, the
sincere part, "worrying your handsome head about it!"

Both ached for the affection of physical contact, but
for now both knew Barry was out of commission for
awhile.

So, came Barry's other thought, "We're not going to be
able to have sex for awhile."

Thinking it a downer, seeing Barry's mood cave in,
Robbie touched the only place not bandaged, Barry's
upper chest, saying, "You can't go and blame yourself.
Things happen."

"But why to me? I mean I just have it all going for
me, good grades, an important job doing stuff for
Coach Torricelli and... you."

"Well don't think I'm going to ditch you just because
you can't.... well you know. Ain't gonna happen,"
Robbie assured him, in a more down-to-earth manner,
more so than the joke he popped a few minutes ago.

His face lighting up, Barry asks, "Robbie, you think
what we got going here is gonna last forever?"

Riding on the fact no one knew for sure what direction
life takes, but not wanting to tear down the
melancholy mood overtaking Barry right now, Robbie
says, "If we keep going the way we are now, why not?"

Barry's smile widened until he said "Owch!"

"I bet I know what will make you feel better!"

Setting the box of chocolates across Barry's legs, but
not covering a certain spot, Robbie's hand found it's
way to below the patient's navel.

"Owch!"

Withdrawing his hand hastily, Robbie asks, "There
too?"

"I fell flat on my face. My cock and balls squashed
against the track along with the rest of me."

Then patting the sheet more than pressuring Barry's
pubes, Robbie said, "That's okay. I betcha in no time
you'll be up and around, us carrying on the way we
used to."

"You don't have to wait if you don't want to, Robbie."

"Nonsense. No problem waiting. If I get restless I'll
just whip it out and jack it off!"

It made both of them giggle, Barry inquiring, "Will
you be thinking of me?"

"Of course. Who else do you think I'll be thinking
of?"

"I dunno." Then obviously with somebody in mind, Barry
spills, "How about Tino?"

"Tino-schmino. Whatever we did before is over and done
with... water under the bridge," Robbie said, his
hands moving like an umpire signaling `safe'.

"But you like fantasy roleplaying," Barry disputed the
truth about his perception of Robbie's likes and
wants.

"It's not like I didn't get to try out some bdsm
stuff. Sure it was good, but it's not like I'm craving
it. Besides now I want to concentrate on us."

Sensing differently, Barry decided instead of catching
his lover in a fib, utilize different tactics. "I
don't think you should give it up."

"Oh no. Believe me, I..."

"But I don't believe you," Barry said frankly, a wide
grin on his face, which hurt, so he lowered the level
of indentation of the corners of his lips.

"You don't believe me, huh?"

"Look, Robbie. Like I said before. I don't mind you
doing bdsm stuff, as long as your safe about it. So,
if Tino wants to play with you and you're okay with
it, I'm okay with it."

There was that smile on Barry's face, the one which
first made Robbie's head spin. Coupled with the blonde
hair and blue eyes, still visible beyond the facade of
bandages, he couldn't refute the statements. "Yeah,
okay," Robbie replied.

"So why don't you see what Tino is doing this week?"

"We'll see. I just want you to know Tino will never
take your place."

"That's for damn sure!" Barry replied.

Robbie smiled, knowing Barry already relinquished the
role of playing `the master' to Tino or whoever else
filled the Doc Martin boots. To get off the subject,
Robbie asks, "So, anybody else on the team been here
to visit?"

"Larry and Edwin stopped by while mom was here
yesterday. I guess mom is coming `round."

"How so?"

"At first she wasn't too keen on us twins being gay.
Neither was dad. He still isn't. However, last night
when Larry showed up with Edwin, they weren't going to
let Edwin in because he wasn't family. I heard mom
talking with Larry out in the hallway. It wasn't all
chipper!"

Robbie smiled. "And so?"

"Next thing ya know, the door opens. Mom, Larry and
Edwin come walking in. Mom got a double whammy when
both came over to give me a kiss, only couldn't."

"Poor `mom'," Robbie said, not meaning it, but only
for the fact of her `gay-awakening'.

"Yeah. She's being a real trooper about it, but dad.
Forget it. Half the time he doesn't even talk to us,
Larry and me. I'm glad we got another brother."

Robbie agreed, shaking his head. He scooted his ass
from the side of the bed when Rashid came back in,
carrying a tray.

"Hungry, Barry?"

"Sort of. It kind of hurts to eat." At the same time,
Barry pointed out the tooth, front and center, lower
jaw and how easily it wiggled!

Saying he had to get going, Robbie kissed two fingers,
touching Barry's forehead, saying, "I'll check back
this afternoon."

Last words, Barry told him, "Remember to tell Coach
Torricelli not to give my job away. I'll be getting
well soon."

"I'll pass the word on," he promised.

As soon as he left, the door to Barry's room opened
once again. Turning, he saw Rashid taking up the door
frame.

"Say, I'm throwing together a party for Friday night,
if you're interested?"

"I don't think so," Robbie said, "but thanks."

>From his pocket, Rashid had a prepared inked paper,
with some vital info on it. "Here. Take this in case
you change your mind. I just figured since you weren't
seeing any action, you might want to check it out."

Again Robbie thanked him, making his exit. Jumping in
his Chevy Uplander, he took his time following the
myriad of lanes to leave the hospital parking lot.
Halfway to Applegate, he saw in the distance a thumb
up. As he closed in on the hitchhiker he thought he
recognized the guy from one of his linguistic classes.

"Need a lift?" came the redundant question, as Robbie
lowered the passenger side window.

"Uh. Yeah," the college dude answered, aware of the
reason his thumb was up and walking backwards down the
road.

Once inside, belted down and on their way, Robbie made
small talk, asking, "Aren't you in my semantics
class?"

"Right, but I've seen you around campus."

In a second, Robbie figured out he was being checked
out, on campus `and' in the driver's seat.

"Could be," he played along. "I'm on the swim team
too."

"You date that blond dude you're always hanging with?"

At a stop sign, Robbie comments, "I hadn't realized we
were being stalked!"

"I didn't mean it that way, um...."

"Robbie... Robbie Sinclair," he mentioned, before
cautiously making his way across the intersection.

"Topher.. it's short for Christopher... Cristan," the
hitcher replied in return.

"French?"

"And a little Irish mix," Topher added, taking off his
glasses, breathing some mist onto the lenses. "Hey,
you have a tissue?"

"Back seat," Robbie replies. At first Topher tried
turning around, Robbie joking, "Don't take the seat
with you!"

"These things come out easily?"

Robbie rolled his eyes, hoping that wasn't a serious
question! When Topher was back in his seat, tissue in
hand, belt crossing his frontal region, Robbie baited
the hook, seeing where it went. "So, have you got
somebody you're seeing?"

"How do you mean that?" Topher suddenly clammed up.

Not sure which way Topher leaned, he treaded lightly
on the subject, adding, "Boy? Girl?"

"Girl," he quickly rebounded.

Robbie smiled to himself after hearing the response,
knowing Topher's heart wasn't in it, but he didn't
pursue the matter, jumping to another subject. "So,
what do you hope to do with your degree?"

Noticably Topher sighed a long air outtake of relief,
responding, "I'm not sure at this point. Originally I
thought of teaching in the classroom. Maybe high
school. But now I'm thinking of sidetracking my
studies into anthropology or psycholinguistics."

Knowing he heard the terms before, Robbie would need
to look them up again. One he could relate to, high
school languages, he steered the conversation in his
direction. "Right now I teach a bunch of kids up at
Eskridge High, in the `after-after school' program."

"Sounds interesting," Topher replied, but wasn't
showing any real interest in the subject.

Twice now, as Robbie checked turning into an
intersection, looking both ways, his peripheral vision
has picked up on Topher gazing at him. As they drove
in through the wrought iron gates of Applegate
University, he thought if he didn't confront Topher
now he would never get the chance. "By chance Topher
are you..."

"Thanks for the lift," Topher cut in. "You can let me
out here. I owe you one."

It was Robbie being the one doing the checking out,
watching Topher cross in the street in front of him,
the backpack slinging over Topher's shoulder, a wave
and a barely audible `see you later' offered before
the guy behind him leaned on the horn. "Fuck you!" he
yelled, knowing the guy behind couldn't hear. Good
thing too since it was Adam Steel driving a campus
security vehicle. "Oh shit!" was his next response,
all knowing any of Applegate's security force could
jot down a license plate in a second and he'd be in
deep shit. Instead Robbie waved his hand out the
window and proceeded along. Pulling into a spot,
desinated for team sports students, he was tailed, the
security car blocking his Chevy from backing out. With
haste he flung open his door, hopping out, ready to
plead his case.

"You know you caused quite a backup of traffic a few
seconds ago?" Adam posed to him.

The last time Robbie saw a guy in any kind of uniform
was Tino, decked out in his leather, talking nasty to
him, threatening to workover his balls and other
sensitive body parts. "Shit no. I mean `yes'. I mean
yeah, I did, but didn't."

Dropping the serious `cop' demeanor, Adam lightened
up, stuffing his leatherbound infraction pad back in
his pants pocket, clicking the top to his pen, placing
it back in his pec pocket. "Well this time I'm going
to cut you a break."

"Oh thank-you-thank-you-thank-you so much officer."

Smiling, folding his arms across his stomach, Adam
replies, "We don't have the judicial discrimination
the police department has, but too many infractions
could mean loss of campus parking priviledges. You do
understand that?"

"Oh I know. Believe me officer," Robbie replied,
relieved he was being given a warning, but same time
being nice in case he met up with the same security
guard in future offenses.

"So, are you by chance on one of Coach Torricelli's
teams?"

"Swimming," Robbie replied. Not meaning to, he
couldn't help but take occasional passes at Adam's
shirt collar, wondering how much blond fur coated his
bod.

"I've been pretty busy around here...."

"Catching student criminals?"

Adam's toothy grin hit Robbie almost as hard as
Barry's, the first time he took it in. "I was going to
say, to set foot inside the gynasium, for other than
security business." Slipping, Adam asked, "Do you
think Anthony would mind if I sat on the sidelines and
watched?"

Catching the dressed down referral, right away Robbie
knew the security officer had to be an acquaintance.
"You know coach?"

Howling with laughter, Adam replies, "I wondered how
long this would go!"

"Huh?" Robbie questioned him.

"I suppose I look different with my clothes on and
dried out!"

"Adam?" Robbie suddenly made the connection. "Well
yeah. Dry you sure look different. I mean when a blond
guy is wet your hair looks...."

Still his perfectly lined up teeth showing, Adam says,
"Don't be embarrassed about it. That night you weren't
the only guy checking me out!"

As they entered Applegate University's gymnasium,
Robbie couldn't get over the difference between
skivvies and civvies, even though now he remembered
checking Adam out no less than a dozen times or more.
Before he sprang a boner, thinking about it, he
diverted his thoughts, complimenting, "Well you sure
did give us guys some competition!"

"Most likely the beer drinking cut the competitive
edge," Adam made excuse. Making a stop in front of
Anthony's office, Adam says, "He's not here."

"Coach could be in one of a number of places. Why
don't we check the pool?"

Having quite some time on his hands, Robbie leads Adam
to the pool. "Next?" he asked when it was deserted.

Taking a short cut through the lockerroom, both Robbie
and Adam had a treat, glimpses of the soccer team
getting ready to hit the field. Robbie laughed his ass
off when they got outside, saying, "Nice `sucker'
team!"

"Yeah," Robbie went along with it, telling, "Coach
Torricelli always uses the story of catching two
soccer team members, one fucking the other, as his
`Don't let it happen to you!' warning."

"And what happened to the two soccer players?"

"Coach didn't say. Maybe I'll ask him sometime."
However, it was immaterial at this point.

Approaching the track, they saw six guys jogging
around the track. "Eh Robbie-man," one greeted him,
carrying on with his running.

"Friend of yours?" Adam asked.

"Jayab Yousef," Robbie filled him in. "Friend and
body-shaver," he furthured his association with the
six foot three athlete.

"One thing which doesn't interest me," Adam said, a
foot from the shed door.

"What doesn't interest you?" Anthony asked, his hands
on the hurdle cart, trying to manouver it around a
corner.

"Here, allow me."

Wiping the sweat off his face with the sleeve of his
polo, it didn't go unnoticed, the perspiration spots
staining his armpits, Robbie licking his lips in
response.

"You don't have to do that Adam," Anthony replied as
he turned over the cart to Adam's insistence.

"No sweat."

"Wish I could say the same," Anthony returned, lifting
the tail of his polo shirt up, wiping his face. "It's
gotta be at least two hundred degrees in there," he
claimed.

Even though Robbie's seen it before, wet and dry, it
still tickled his balls to see the shirt lifted, six
lined up abs, glazed over with dark brown fur, trail
embedded, cutting Anthony's ads in half, the deep
navel, treasure trail partially submerged under the
leather belt.

"Um, you care to move Robbie or risk getting run
over?" Adam asked, him and Anthony exchanging glances,
knowing what distracted the boy.

"Oh sure. No problem," he complied, moving to the side
and letting the cart roll by. As Anthony and Adam
chatted Robbie took it upon him to bend over, place
his hands on the rear of the cart and offer some
assistance in it's velocity. As he did it, his muscle
shirt rode up his bod so that when he stood, his
smooth bod shone. Adam and Anthony made it a point to
stare.

Robbie questioned, "What?"

"Feel a breeze, Sinclair?" coach asks.

Getting it, Robbie accuses the two, "Checking me out?"

Anthony replies, "No more than you did to me!"

Carrying on the joke, Adam suggests, "Maybe the three
of us should go under the bleechers and jerk off?"

"Somebody goin' to be needin' a blowjob?"

The three of them stood there, staring at Jayab,
apparently after hearing Adam's comment.

"You done with your ten laps, Jayab?"

"No coach."

"Then get the hell out there and mind your own
business," Anthony put on his official demeanor.

"Was he serious?" Adam asked.

"Who knows!" Anthony replied.

Robbie sets the two thinking, saying, "Oh he was
serious alright. I mean he might have the height, but
when it comes to man to man action, Jayab drops to his
knees."

"And you would know?" Anthony put it to Robbie.

"Well not that I've seen it, but when I was shaving
Jayab I kind of got the impression..."

"That's how rumors get started," Adam said a word for
the wiser.

They never made it under the bleechers. Anthony took
off, kicking butt while Robbie and Adam helped to do
`Barry's job'.
