Warning:

This story is fiction - all names were made up. So if there is anyone out
there with these names, I don't know them. If you do not like the idea of
male relationships, then please do not read any further.

This is my first story, so please let me know how I'm doing. I have been
reading the stories on Nifty for about three years, and decided that I
wanted to give it a try as a Nifty writer. I would like to know what you
think... so send me an email, and let me know. Please add the story title
in the subject line. I want to thank the few that have taken the time to
email me. Good or bad I would like to know that you are reading my story.

I want to thank Joe for all the help he has given me throughout this
story. Without his help, I would probably still be on chapter 1. I also
want to thank Jere for taking the time to edit the story for me.

Now, get comfortable, read the story, and I'm hoping that you enjoy it!

A Voice from The Past

Chapter 9

Andy and Jimmy got to know each other really well since that night in
Jimmy's room. Andy had stayed for a couple more hours, talking with Jimmy
about his family life. Tony was never mentioned again, because Andy
thought that was for another time. He needed Jimmy to know that he was
there for him as a friend. He had wanted so many times to go see
Lt. McDowell, but Jimmy had asked him not to go. Andy knew that he had to
convince Jimmy that he sincerely meant that he wanted them to be friends,
so he had not gone to see the Lieutenant. Two weeks had passed since that
night in Jimmy's room. Andy continued visiting with Jimmy, and slowly the
bond between them was developing. The weekend was just three days away, so
Andy talked with Mrs. Caldwell about having Jimmy spend the weekend with
him. She didn't see any problems, but only if Jimmy agreed. There could be
no force, and all of this had to be Jimmy's choice. If he said NO, then
`no' it is.

************

"Hello, Jimmy," Andy said, knocking on the door.

"Andy, hello, how are you doing?" Jimmy asked, smiling.

"I'm good! Listen, I want to talk to you about something, and the decision
is yours, okay" Andy said.

"Sure, Andy, what is it?" Jimmy asked.

"I was thinking... that maybe you could come spend the weekend at my
house," Andy said.

Jimmy just sat there looking at Andy. "You really want me to come to your
house?" Jimmy asked.

"Yes, I do...we do. Melinda would like to meet you, and I think you will
like Steven," Andy said.

"I don't know! Are you absolutely sure? Do you think your wife really
wants me there?" Jimmy asked, with tears forming in his eyes.

"Yes, Jimmy, she does; now don't start crying. We would love to have you
for the weekend," Andy said.

"Okay, I'll spend the weekend, if you're sure," Jimmy said, somewhat
hesitantly.

"This will be great! I'll be here to get you about noon on Friday," Andy
said.

The next few days went by quickly. Jimmy was excited about going to spend
the weekend with Andy. At the same time, he was nervous about meeting the
rest of Andy's family. Jimmy had really grown fond of Andy, but still
found it hard to believe that someone would really want him around.

***********

"Jimmy, you ready to get out of here?" Andy asked, tapping on the door.

"I sure am!" Jimmy said.

"I thought we could get some lunch, then head home," Andy said.

"I don't have any money, Andy," Jimmy said.

"Jimmy, please don't worry about that; it's my treat. You can pick up the
tab next time," Andy laughingly said. "I don't want you to think about
anything but having a good time. Steven is really looking forward to
meeting you. My brother Tony and his boyfriend will be over tonight," Andy
said.

"Thank you, Andy," Jimmy said, hugging Andy with tears in his eyes.

They went to a local restaurant for lunch, enjoyed each other's company,
talking about anything and everything. The only topic not discussed was
Jimmy's father.

They left the restaurant, and after a short drive, they arrived at Andy's
house. "Jimmy, you okay?" Andy asked.

"I'm not sure about this. What if they don't like me? Jimmy asked.

"Jimmy, things will be fine; everyone will love you. If there are any
problems, I won't ask you again. I just want you to feel like part of my
family," Andy said, putting his hand on Jimmy's shoulder.

Walking in the house, Jimmy could hardly believe what he saw. It was
beautiful, and had two stories with four bedrooms and three baths. Jimmy
thought, in the back of his mind, how he would love to live here. `Stop
thinking like that, Jimmy; you know you will never live here with them Andy
is just trying to be nice.'

"Jimmy, you can come on in," Andy said, breaking Jimmy's thoughts.

"Thanks, Andy. This is a nice house," he said.

"Thanks. I'll show you around after you me everyone. Mindy! I'm home," Andy
yelled.

"Okay, honey, I'll be right there," Mindy said.

"Please come on in the living room and sit down. Would you like something
to drink?" Andy asked.

"Yes, sir, thank you," Jimmy said.

"Jimmy, I want you to make yourself at home here," Andy said.

"Andy, Honey, I'm glad your home," Mindy said, kissing Andy.

"Jimmy, I want you to meet my wife, Melinda, but we call her Mindy," Andy
said.

"Hello, Jimmy; nice to meet you. Welcome to our home," Mindy said.

"Thank you, ma'am," Jimmy said.

"Sweetie, is Steven still down for his nap," Andy asked.

"Yes, he is, but he'll be up soon. How has your day been going, Jimmy?"
Mindy asked.

"It's been great, ma'am," Jimmy answered.

"Please, Jimmy, you can call me Mindy," Mindy said.

Mindy, while you and Jimmy get acquainted, I'm going to get him something
to drink. I'll be right back," Andy said.

After he returned, Andy said,

"Honey, I'm just going to talk with Jimmy while we wait for Steven to wake
up."

"Okay, I'll be in the kitchen if you needed anything. Jimmy, welcome
again," Mindy said, leaving the room.

"Jimmy, I need to talk with you about something, but I don't won't you
getting upset," Andy said.

"Okay, is something wrong?" Jimmy asked, looking worried.

"No! Not really wrong. It's about your father," Andy said.

"Dad, what about Dad?" Jimmy asked.

"Do you know someone named Travis Wilson?" Andy asked.

"Travis Wilson? I'm not sure. Why, who is he?" Jimmy asked, trying to think
of who he could be.

"Well, he works at the same precinct as your father and me. He had been
your father's partner for the longest time. Then something happened, and
they weren't partners anymore." Andy said.

"Okay, I think I know who he is. What does he have to do with me? What do
you want to talk about?" Jimmy asked.

"Travis came to see me yesterday. He had been visiting your father. Your
father wants to see you, Jimmy. He somehow found out that I have been
visiting you, and he had Travis come talk with me about you coming to see
him," Andy said.

"Is he crazy? I don't want to see him! He killed Jeremy! I never want to
see him! I hope he never gets out," Jimmy said, with a tears rolling down
his cheeks.

Andy walked over to Jimmy and gave a big bear hug. As the door bell rang,
Steven came running in the living room.

"Daddy, you home," Steven yelled, running into the room.

"Hey, Baby, did you sleep well?" Andy asked.

"Yes. Who this?" Steven asked, looking at Jimmy.

"This is a friend of Daddy's. His name is Jimmy," Andy said.

"Hi, Jimmy, me be friend to?" Steven said, smiling at Jimmy.

"Hi! Steven, I would like to be your friend, also," Jimmy said.

"Andy, your brother is here," Mindy said, from the kitchen.

"Tony, Jason; good to see you; come on in," Andy said, hugging Tony and
shaking hands with Jason.

"It's been awhile! How have you been?" Tony asked.

"Things are good. I would like to you meet someone. This is Jimmy. I met
him when I started going to The Hideaway," Andy said. "Jimmy, this is my
brother Tony, and his boyfriend Jason."

"Jimmy, it's good to meet you," Tony said.

"Hello, nice to meet you, too," Jimmy said, shying away behind Andy.

"Jimmy, they are not going to hurt you. You can trust them," Andy said.

They all spent a couple of hours getting to know Jimmy, who seemed to be
having a good time, laughing and joking around with everyone else, like he
had known them forever.

"Honey, dinners ready," Mindy said, coming into the living room.

"Great! I'm starved," Andy said, showing them to the dining room.

Dinner went great, with everyone getting along, and Jimmy being
comfortable, talking freely with Tony and Jason. They even made plans to
hang out, while Andy was at work. Andy thought it would be good for Jimmy
to be around Tony and Jason. With dinner coming to a close, Andy was going
to see if he could get Jimmy to see his Dad.

"Jimmy, come on and I'll show you where you will be sleeping," Andy said,
after saying goodnight to Tony and Jason.

"Me come too daddy?" Steven excitedly said.

"Sure, Steven, you can come show Jimmy where he will sleep," Andy said.

Jimmy and Steven started behaving like brothers. Steven took Jimmy's hand
and led him up the stairs. Jimmy was starting to really believe he could be
a part of this family. He did not have school the next week, so he spent
the entire week with Andy's family. Steven became his shadow that
week. Jimmy really didn't mind; he liked being around the little guy. Andy
came into Steven's room one day, and found Jimmy on floor playing cars with
Steven; it was a site to see for Andy. Jimmy had met Andy's Mom and Dad,
and his sister as well. Everyone really liked Jimmy. One evening, after
Steven and Jimmy had gone to bed, Andy was cuddled on the couch with Mindy,
and brought up a topic he has been thinking about. They talked about the
idea of bringing Jimmy into their home on a permanent basis. While they
were expecting another baby, Mindy was all for it. Andy still tried to get
Jimmy to go see his Dad, but, so far, he had not succeeded, and couldn't
get him to agree.

*********

"Hello, I'm Officer Cooper, and I would like to see Lt. McDowell, please,"
Andy said.

"Let me see if you can see him," The Officer said.

After waiting a couple of minutes, the officer returned. Andy was shown to
the room where he would meet with the Lieutenant. A couple of minutes
later, the door opened and Andy came face to face with Lieutenant Daniel
McDowell.
