Chapter #6

I sat on the edge of the bed for a few minutes, the sound of Alexander's
voice still in my ear. The background noise sounded like a room filled with
crying babies and children. The pungent odor of dried urine, unwashed bodies
and spoiled milk seemed to surround me and I shook my head trying to clear
the thoughts and of Alex living in that environment.

"People can be poor." I thought, "but soap and water are still relatively
cheap and it takes little effort to be clean."

				* * * * * * * *

Thoughts of Alexander flooded my mind as I dressed and I had that excited
feeling caused by anticipating seeing him again and I wished it were noon.

The weather was typical Florida, the kind that a Chamber of Commerce uses in
their commercials. The sky was an unclouded clear blue with a brilliant sun
shining and a soft warm breeze blowing. Draping my jacket over my shoulder,
holding it with two fingers, I walked too the motel dining room.

The hostess looked at me in that quizzical way most dining room hostesses
have and asked. "One for breakfast sir?" Without waiting for a response, she
led me to a table for two that looked out over the grounds in front of the
motel. Placing the menu on the table and with that classical phrase "enjoy
your breakfast", she returned too her station.

I sat facing the main doors of the restaurant that led off of the motel
lobby so I could watch for Coleman to arrive. I had never met the man but it
usually didn't take much to recognize when someone is looking for someone.

The young girl that had delivered coffee and juice to my room earlier walked
towards me carrying a thermos coffee decanter. After pouring the coffee into
a cup that was on the table, she asked for my breakfast order. Looking
around I didn't see Glenn and I looked up at her. "Glenn's not working
today?"

"No sir. He called in this morning that he had extra duty and wouldn't be
able to make it."

"Extra duty?" I asked.

"Yes sir, Glenn is in the Navy. He's stationed at Mayport on one of those
ships over there. He only works here part-time. If there is nothing else,
I'll have your breakfast out as soon as it's ready." She said and then went
towards two swinging doors that I assumed led into the kitchens.

"Glenn was in the Navy." I thought to myself. "He sure didn't give any
indication he was while we were together." That was probably one of the
reasons he wasn't really worried about being fired, that and some guy named
Harrison that he said wanted to swing on his cock. I found out later that
Harrison was the motel manager and that made for pretty good job security if
you knew how to handle it.

				* * * * * * * *

While I was pouring my second cup of coffee, my breakfast arrived and a
rather non-descript middle-aged man walked through the doors.

He was wearing a light blue seersucker suit, white shirt and dark blue tie
with black shoes. The suit sort of hung on his drooping shoulders and he
needed a haircut. His mousy blond hair hung almost to his shoulders and it
didn't appear that he combed it very often, if ever. When he spotted me he
hesitated at first and then walked towards my table. He didn't really look
that much older then me and as he got closer I could see he had watery blue
eyes. Coleman was the type that would blend in with any group and become
unnoticed.

"Mr. Rhodes?" He asked.

"Coleman right?" I said. "Have a seat, care for some coffee or would you
like breakfast?"

"Coffee will be fine, sir. My wife fixed breakfast before I left."

I looked for the waitress and when she spotted me, I waved my hand
indicating another cup was needed. When she brought the cup, I asked her for
another decanter of coffee and continued eating my breakfast.

"Did you have a nice flight Mr. Rhodes? I could have met you at the airport
if you had called."

"The flight was okay Coleman but I didn't want anyone meeting me or I would
have called. In fact, no one was supposed to know I was coming down early
and it surprised me when you called the motel. I wanted a few days to
myself so I could look for an apartment and sort of get my bearings."

"I didn't know that Mr. Rhodes. Mr. Outtman called and let me know you were
on your way. He told me what motel you would be in but not the flight you
were taking. Of course I called Mr. Ackerman and told him what I had been
told. I thought he might like to be here when you arrived." He said almost
breathlessly and glancing at the waitress as she poured his coffee from the
fresh decanter.

I learned that Coleman was 39 years old, married with 2 children. He had
been with Mid Atlantic for almost 10 years and Ackerman had transferred him
to Jacksonville from the Charlotte office. He had only been in the
Jacksonville office for less then six months when Paul Brandon had resigned
so he knew very little about him.

Coleman's comment that Ackerman knew him much better since they had worked
together for several years made me smile inwardly. If the rumors were true,
Ackerman probably did know Brandon very well. The one thing that bothered me
as we were talking was why he was still only an assistant branch manager
having been with Mid Atlantic almost 10 years. The company had been in
expansion and usually promoted from within its ranks and men with as much
time as Coleman had with the company were branch managers long before they
reached the length of his tenure unless something was wrong. I'd find out
more about it later in the office.

				* * * * * * * *

With breakfast finished, I signed the motel check. I followed Coleman
outside and we walked towards a dark blue almost black Chevrolet Monte
Carlo. The car looked to be fully equipped and had a radio antenna on the
trunk lid.
"Your company car Coleman?" I asked.

"No sir, yours. Mine is at the office. Would you care to drive?"

"No thanks, you know where we are going better then I do." I said opening
the passenger side door noticing that the car had a built in telephone,
hence the antenna.

"Pretty fancy for a company car Coleman. We don't drive anything like this
in the Norfolk branch but this one needs cleaning."

"Mr. Ackerman ordered it for Mr. Brandon but it arrived after he had
resigned. It has less then 5,000 miles on it. I've driven it since I was the
acting branch manager but I've really not had much time to get it cleaned."
He said, falling silent as he tooled the car out onto the expressway heading
south from the motel.

The office was located in Brentwood off of I-95, about 20 minutes from the
motel. It was the usual run of the mill office complex. Concrete, glass and
steel buildings all placed strategically for access and immaculately
landscaped. My new office was on the second floor in a building called
Shenandoah. Why, I don't know. Coleman circled the building looking for a
parking place. I noticed that several spaces had signs indicating that the
space was reserved for such and such company or so and so executive but I
didn't see any for Mid Atlantic Finance. When I asked Coleman about it, he
told that we were supposed to have 4 reserved spaces but that the complex
management hadn't installed the signs.

"Why hasn't it been followed up on and have it done?" I asked.
Coleman hesitated before answering. "Mr. Ackerman has said he didn't know if
they were going to re-new the lease on this office."

"Is that all he said?" I asked almost flabbergasted at what he had said.

"Only that Mr. Rhodes. I'm sure he will talk with you about it when he comes
in next week. This is our office, #232." He indicated and opened a door with
a very small nameplate that I could barely read.

Two young ladies stood as we entered. One was Coleman's wife Phyllis and the
other Clara Hardy. After the usual pleasantries and introductions Coleman
showed me my office next to his and an empty office next to that. When I
asked him about the Outside Accounts Receivable man, he advised me we had
none. The one that had been there left when Paul Brandon resigned. Coleman
had been doing a little double duty while searching for another man.

I liked less and less of what I was hearing and even less than that looking
around a very unpleasant office. Drab pea green walls with glaring overhead
lights and what had once been a gray carpet.

My personal office was small compared to the one I had in Norfolk. In fact
the entire office was less then half the size of the Norfolk branch.

Clara followed me as I went into the office and sat down at the desk piled
high with folders and papers. While she was explaining what most of it was,
Coleman came in and she left. He tried explaining about the various new
accounts folders that he hadn't had a chance to review. My head was
starting to hurt from the steady drone of her and his voices.

"Is there any coffee around?" I asked.

"At the canteen downstairs. If you would like a cup I can send Clara down
for some."

"You don't have a coffee pot in the office?"

"No, I'm the only one that drinks coffee and not very much of that." He
answered again nervously.

I was beginning to feel that he was a yes man wimp. I later learned that he
was Ackerman's pipeline but I had sort of figured there was something
between him and Ackerman before that.

"Never mind, I'll go for it. You get those account folders in chronological
order so I can look at them. Have Phyllis pull up the accounts in arrears
both retail and commercial while I'm gone and put Clara on that filing I saw
sitting on top of the filing cabinets after she calls and sets me an
appointment with the complex manager for tomorrow morning before lunch.
Okay?" I said and walked out without waiting for any response.

				* * * * * * * *

When I returned from the canteen, the files were stacked as I had instructed
and a computer processed listing of the arrears accounts was lying on my
desk. I set to work going over the arrears list first making notations on
what accounts needed prompt attention. The office was completely silent
except for a low murmur from the office next to mine. I could see and feel
what should have been obvious. The office lacked any leadership and
organization. One of the worst things was the underlying feeling I detected
of fear and I don't think it was because of my arrival alone. That may be
part of it but I could see that Clara was petrified and Coleman's wife
couldn't seem to stay out of his office.

A little after 11AM I took the listing I had gone over into his office and
dropped it on his desk in front of him.

"After lunch I want you on the road contacting the accounts I had
highlighted. They seem to be the ones that need the most attention. Collect
the past due monies or have me a report why you didn't when I get in
tomorrow morning. I don't care how long it takes you but contact each
account." I said watching for his reaction.

"That will take me the rest of the day and probably into the evening.
Phyllis and I had plans for dinner with friends tonight." He said not
looking up from the list.

"Which do you want Coleman, dinner or your job?" I said kicking the door
shut with my foot.

"My job." He said quietly.

"Then get off your ass and either collect the accounts until you find a man
that will. This office does not go any further into the red, is that clear?
In less then the time I have been here, the telephone has not rang in or
used calling out. You and your wife have been together talking about what I
don't know or want to know and that stops as of right now. Why in hell you
or Ackerman did not start looking for a replacement for a collector when the
one you had left is beyond me. Brandon has been gone for over 2 months and
nothing has been done in that time. The choice is your Coleman. I want some
action by the time I get in tomorrow morning."

"You're leaving for the day?" He exclaimed.

"I am and if anyone calls tell them I will be out for the afternoon and I
won't be back until the morning. Take a message if they want to leave one.
You can reach me on the car phone if you need to. But Coleman, don't bug me
about some petty crap you can handle. I need to find a place to live other
than a motel."

He had a look of surprise and confusion on his face as I left saying goodbye
to Phyllis and Clara.

				* * * * * * * *

I don't think the Monte Carlo had been cleaned in several months from the
look of the trash inside and the dirt-streaked exterior. It was in pitiful
condition for a relatively new car. We had passed a wash by hand business
called "Triple S" on the way from the motel and I took the car there for
cleaning. It took two washings and vacuuming and a hefty tip to get it clean
but they included one of those scent trees that you hang on the rear view
mirror, it helped but I didn't really care for lavender.

Checking through the real-estate section of the newspaper after Glenn left
yesterday, I had highlighted an apartment rental complex named River
Plantation located on Atlantic Boulevard. The address that Alex had given me
for his brothers was off state highway 228, a place called Spring Glen.
According to the map of Jacksonville that I had bought it was not that far
from the apartment complex. By getting off of I95 at SH#13 it led right into
Spring Glen and after I picked up Alex we could reverse direction too River
Plantation.

I was surprised to see that the landscape was pretty much like SE Virginia
and not all palm trees as most people think of Florida. The main roads were
in good condition but getting to where Alex was proved to be eye opening.
There were ghetto areas, white and black, in Norfolk and Jacksonville had
some of the same.

Higgins St. where Alex's brother lived was the main street of a trailer
park, a very run down trailer park. Alex had described his brother's trailer
as being painted blue and white with a wide red stripe separating the two
colors. It may have been painted those colors when it was built but the
years had taken a toll.

Unwashed kids ran out into the roadway with total disregard for any traffic
and between watching out for them and trying to spot the trailer Alex was
living in, I almost missed the turnoff and would have if it hadn't been for
a scraggly teenager stepping in front of the car forcing me to stop.

He stood in front of the car for several seconds, a cigarette hanging from
his lips. He couldn't have been more then 15 years old but it was difficult
to tell. His hair was an unwashed blond, very long and matted and he was
wearing a dirty t-shirt with those low hanging jeans that kids were wearing.
I couldn't tell the color of his eyes until he got around to the drivers
window, they were a watery blue and had a very tired look. With a little
cleaning up, fresh clothes and a proper diet he could have been a nice
looking boy. I think he was beyond that though.

He stood next to the car and leaning down he looked in the window. "Mister,
ya got a couple of bucks you can spare?" He asked and I saw his teeth needed
dental work bad. I made a mistake.

Taking my wallet from my inside jacket pocket I opened it looking for
singles. He saw it and leaned closer whispering quietly. "For one of those
twenties I can fix you up with my sister if you're interested." His mouth
had not seen a toothbrush in who knows how long and the odor almost gagged
me.

"No thanks." I said handing him two dollars.

"Suit yourself." He said backing away from the car slightly. "You don't know
what you're missing, she's a pretty good fuck."

"Thanks anyway." I said pulling away and turning down the road towards what
looked like the trailer I was looking for was. In the rearview mirror I saw
the kid give me the bird as I pulled away and then Alex came walking out
from behind a low, what once was a white, picket fence waving his arm over
his head. He was the cleanest thing I saw.

Some non-descript woman was standing on the stoop in front of the trailers
door holding the baby that I had probably heard earlier, it was still
crying. She looked washed out and weary.

Alex threw his sea bag into the back and waved at her as he got in beside
me, she waved back.

"Is that Betsy, your sister-in-law?" I asked.

"Yeah." He responded mechanically with no emotion.

"She doesn't look very old Alex." I said softly while I retraced the way I
had come in. The dirty kid still standing almost where I left him.

"Same age as me but she's been used so much she looks older. Being dirt poor
with two kids and a husband that doesn't give a damn will do that to you.
You don't know how I felt when you called. Jesus I couldn't stay there even
though he is my brother and I really missed you."

"Me too Alex. I'm going to a place called River Plantation to look at an
apartment and then we can head back too the motel and talk if that's okay
with you?"

"Sure." He said moving closer and putting his hand on my thigh.

Thoughts of Glenn flashed through my head at the feeling of his hand sliding
down into my crotch, his fingers pressing against my balls and his thumb
massaging the base of my thickening cock.

"You have me at a disadvantage Alex and if you keep that up there is gonna
be a mess real quick."
"Slide the seat back and I can take care of the mess." He said undoing my
pants and pulling the zipper down as the seat slid back. His blue eyes were
blazing, filled with lust.

My cock was crammed tight in my jockey's but he pushed them down under my
balls and laying his head on my stomach he opened his mouth and engulfed the
leaking steel hard length of my cock.

I felt as if my cock was in a hot oven and I gripped the wheel tight as Alex
sucked my cock and played with my balls. He had made my disadvantage his
advantage and very quickly brought me to a boiling climax and thick hot
streams of sperm gushed into his mouth and down his throat. His lips were
like a soft vice gripping me and he drained every drop, his fingers kneading
my balls and stretching the sac.

My first moving blowjob was exciting and it took several seconds before I
calmed down and my body started relaxing. Alex had his head laying in my lap
his tongue gently cleaning the little residue he had not stripped from my
cock as it softened.

"Alex, what about you, did you do anything?" I asked, running the fingers of
my left hand through his soft blond hair.

"Nah." He said sitting up and closing my pants. "Just a little leakage. I
wanted you more then I wanted too shoot off."

"That's not very fair."

"I can wait until we get to the motel Aaron but be careful after that."

"And then what, you going to rape me or something?

"It's not rape when its consensual Aaron and I want that cock of yours up my
ass."

"After I suck you dry lover."

"Before or after as long as I get fucked. I was thinking about you all night
and listening to my brother screwing Betsy. Shit, I jerked off twice just
wishing your cock was up my ass." He said passionately kissing me on the
cheek and inserting his tongue into my ear.

I was tempted to drive on to the motel but we were almost at River
Plantation.

				* * * * * * * *

The rental office was in one of the buildings and we located it by following
the signs. A young woman about my age greeted us and after telling her what
I was looking for she we followed her a model of the one and two bedroom
units.

All of the buildings were built somewhat like a motel but with apartments
and not just single rooms with bath. The swimming pool with sauna and gym
buildings was situated in the center of the main building but the other
units were to eventually have the same amenities and those occupants would
not have to use the main pool. Each apartment had a water view balcony with
washer and dryer hookups and you selected the carpet and wall colors you
wanted.
A two-bed unit rented for $575 a month plus utilities and the water usage
charge was based on the number of units in each building and the number of
occupants in each apartment, the wonders of computers. I completed an
application and wrote a check for the security deposit and two months in
advance for a two-bedroom unit.

When the agent saw my employer as being Mid-Atlantic Finance she asked if we
did rental financing and seemed disappointed when I said we did not but
brightened when I told her I would look into it.

"When will you be moving in Mr. Rhodes?"

"Not until the first of the month. My furniture won't be here until then and
that should give you plenty of time to have the apartment repainted and
carpeted You can call me at my office if you need anything else but I'm
leaving Sunday for a week. If there are any changes, my office can give them
to you." I said as I put my wallet and copy of the lease in my pocket.

"We look forward to having you with us Mr. Rhodes." She said extending her
hand to me looking at Alexander. "Will you be staying with us Mr. . . . .? "

"Kovac, Alexander Kovac and no. I'm just with Mr. Rhodes."

"Well if you change your mind you won't find a better place in Jacksonville
to live. Thanks again Mr. Rhodes."
"My pleasure." I said as we left.

				* * * * * * * *

Alex was quiet until we were on the expressway heading north and then he
turned facing me with one leg up on the bench seat. "Are you really leaving
on Sunday Aaron?"

"Didn't I tell you before that I was leaving on Monday? I've just pushed it
up a day so I can get back down here. I don't want to waste a day traveling
when I can do it on Sunday." I said glancing over at him. "Is there a
problem?"

I knew there was a problem but the silly damn question still needed asking
if for no other reason then allowing Alex to answer if he wanted. He sat
quiet for a few moments then sucking air deep into his magnificent, broad
chest he looked me in the eyes.

"You called me before I had a chance to call you Aaron." He said slowly as
he exhaled. "I was going to ask if I could stay with you a few days while I
looked for a job. The job my brother said he could get for me fell through."

"Did he give you a reason Alex?"

"He just said they weren't hiring now."

"Is seems like he would have known that before he told you he could get you
a job."

"I don't know, I guess maybe he should have.

"That kind of puts you between the rock and a hard place but I have a
solution, you can stay with me. The company is paying for the motel so that
won't cost you or me anything and they didn't say I couldn't have anyone
with me so it's okay. You can look for work while I am gone and stay at the
motel while you are. When I get back, I can help you look if you haven't
found anything. How's that?" I didn't expect his answer to be so exuberant.
He slid across the seat pushing one thickly muscled arm behind, the other
across my chest squeezing me until I almost couldn't breath and I gasped.

"Alex. Ease up or we'll wind up on the shoulder."

Alex relaxed his grip but he didn't move, just sat next to me. He lifted one
arm up on my shoulders and left it there while he rubbed my chest with his
other free hand. I was wondering if he was going to say anything but he just
looked at me, his eyes sparkling and his hand slowly kneading and rubbing
over my chest muscles. My cock was starting to get hard and I was glad to
see the motel sign come into view.
