                                         VII

Fifteen years pass.

D'Oyly Carte in America has staged and restaged all thirteen of the Gilbert
and Sullivan operas for which the music still exists. Ronald Maxwell also
has moved on to produce original shows on Broadway, the most successful
being a musical version of "Gone With the Wind," which now holds the
long-run record both in New York and London. I got to use my real accent
in that one.

I am now at least as wealthy as Wilbur. Regrettably, my dad was thrown
from a horse, landed on his head, fractured his skull, and never regained
consciousness. I thought Steve was rather graceless when he called.

"Well," he said, "now you and Wilbur can get married. I could tell you two
were together that time we all came up to New York. Don't know why Dad
couldn't see it."

So, yes, Wilbur and I are now married. We are still as enamored of each
other as we were "at first sight." He is still at Columbia, holds an
endowed chair in Economics, and is now an advisor to presidents.

I rarely perform these days. Ronald and I have never become intimate, but
are very good friends and business associates. I invest in his productions
and take an active role in their preparation.

Wilbur and I are in Texas right now. We visit the ranch at least once a
year. Mom is very accepting of our relationship, and I've learned that
Steve goes both ways. Seems he had always played around with some of the
ranch hands.

Wilbur says that the wide open spaces make him horny. We certainly seem to
fuck around more down here than up in New York. Twice a day or more.
Can't knock that.

                                     THE END
