Author's Note: Alright people, first off I want to apologize to all the
people who got that bitchy e-mail I sent out. I must have been having a
bad day or something but, that is all behind me now. I have moved on and
with spring fast approaching I am in an increasingly good mood. Not to
mention, hold on to your butts, I have met a WONDERFUL man. But I won't
bore you with the details with how I am falling hopelessly for him. But
who knows what road I'll be on a month from now. The reason this chapter
has taken so long is that I had it written and on this 14th day of March I
had an inspiration and deleted what I had wrote. So on with the show.

Chapter 10

Well things had certainly calmed down a little. It was two months after my
mini breakdown and the following chaos of being the supervisor for a week,
not to mention the holidays and things had been uneventful to say the
least. I had spent the entire day cleaning the house and getting dinner
started and I was enjoying a much deserved glass of tea and cigarette on
the patio. Josh was still at the office and I wasn't happy about that but
hey things can't go your way all the time.

I had decided to do a few things today one was to clean the house, which I
did. Two was to do all the laundry, which I did. Three was to make dinner
which was in the oven. And finally four would have to wait until Josh got
home. I had thought about this for a while now and in the end it wasn't
really any decision, I knew what my answer was all along.

The warm breeze that was dancing over me was a signal of spring which was
fast approaching. I couldn't believe that time had been passing so quickly
but like they say time flies when you're having fun. And believe me Josh
and I certainly had our share of fun. We hadn't been talking too much
about wedding plans but unbeknownst to Josh I had been looking into a
couple of things. I would tell him when he brought it up next which might
just be tonight at dinner.

I couldn't figure out where that sexy fiance of mine was. It was almost
6 and Josh was never at the office past 4. I had tried calling his cell
and got voicemail. I was beginning to worry a little. I got up to go
refill my glass when I saw him standing framed in the doorway holding a
bouquet of white roses. I almost panicked immediately when I saw the roses
which Josh must have noticed because he laughed.

"Don't worry baby you didn't forget anything," he said walking over to me.

"Then I guess someone is trying to get lucky tonight," I said grinning.

"I am lucky every night I'm in your arms," he said grinning.

"You're such a sap sometimes," I said playfully.

"Yeah I know, it takes work but anything for my baby," he said almost
laughing.

"Ok stop it before I get diabetes," I said then playfully swatted him on
the ass and ran inside.

He was hot on my tail and I was laughing like an idiot until I realized I
had cornered myself in the pantry.

"So what are you gonna do now mister?" he asked while walking slowly in the
pantry.

"Beg for mercy?" I said.

"How about just a kiss?" he said snaking his arms around my waist.

"If you insist," I said then proceeded to give him one of the most
passionate kisses I have ever given him. He was leaning on me and his
breath was ragged when we broke the kiss. I smiled at my handy work.

"Will that do?" I asked cockily.

"I'll let ya know when my head stops spinning," he said dreamily.

"I love you baby," I said rubbing his back.

"And I love you boo," he said sounding totally relaxed.

"Come on it's time for dinner," I said leading him back out of the pantry.

I had made a light dinner but the dessert was devil's food. We ate slowly
while he told me all about his shitty day at work and sometime during the
meal he managed to sucker me into giving him a massage later. After we had
finished eating we were just sitting out on the patio relaxing. I decided
now was as good a time as any. I was sitting in a chaise lounge with Josh
between my legs leaning back on my chest.

"Ya know baby I been thinking lately," I said slowly.

"Bout what?" he asked softly.

"Well me and you actually," I said.

"Mmmm, I know that's my favorite topic." He said smiling.

"Well, actually I was thinking about something practical." I said somewhat
cautiously.

"Uh huh," he said prodding me along.

"And I would like for you to move in with me." I said.

"But baby I am here all the time anyway." He said confused.

"Yeah but I still feel like this is my house. I mean you haven't done
anything to make it your own. Not even a picture, and unless you don't
want to I want this to be our house." I said stroking his hair.

He looked up into my eyes and smiled.

"Actually baby, I've already put my house on the market, and I have a few
offers. I was just waiting for the invitation. Besides all I have are my
clothes and a few other things, the furniture is rented besides I like
yours better." He said then looked back down at the pool.

"You sneaky little shit, you know all you had to do was ask. Hell most of
the time I think of you already living with me." I said playfully.

"Maybe that's because I haven't spent the night at my house in months. Or
because I think of this as my home. Or because we are gonna be
married. Any of those sound good?" he asked smiling.

"All of them actually, especially the last one." I said wrapping my arms
around his chest.

"Mmmm, me too baby, so does this mean I get to redecorate?" he asked.

"Any room but the bedroom, I love the bedroom." I said seriously.

"And I wouldn't change a thing about this entire house, well maybe one tiny
thing." He said thoughtfully.

"And what would that be?" I asked.

"My name needs to be on the mailbox," he said playfully.

"it sure does, but I'm not in a hurry to get double the junk mail are you."
I said jokingly.

"Nope, no hurry at all, you can do it tomorrow while I'm at work." He said
attempting to get up and run.

"Tomorrow is Saturday," I said slowly, "Do it your damn self."

He laughed and I started to tickle him and when he was on the verge of
peeing on himself I stopped. We relaxed back in to that comfortable
silence we had enjoyed before and the next thing I knew he was sleeping. I
picked him up and carried him up to the bedroom and undressed him. After I
had pulled the sheet over him I walked back downstairs to clean up the
dinner dishes.

I had just finished starting the dishwasher when the cordless sitting on
the island rang. I dried my hands and picked up the phone. The caller ID
said out of area so I answered it.

"Hello," I said into the phone.

"Hey bubba," a female voice I knew all to well said slowly.

"Hey sis," I said cautiously, "To what do I owe the honor."

"I know it's been a while but things have been kind of complicated back
here. You got time to talk?" she asked.

"Sure, what's up?" I said walking out onto the patio and taking a seat at
the table.

"Well I know it's been a while since we've talked," she started.

"Try almost a year," I said somewhat viscously.

"Yeah, I know," she said apologetically, "but I can't make excuses that'll
make up for it."

I sighed and waited for her to continue as I lit a cigarette.

"The reason I'm calling is I have some news that might interest you," She
said.

"And what would that be," I said taking a long drag off my cigarette.

"Dad's gone." She said simply.

"What do you mean?" I asked my pulse quickening at the mention of our
father.

"Mom finally had enough of his shit and kicked him out. They had this huge
fight when he found a letter she had been writing to you. I was there with
Alyssa and it was bad. Mom actually stood up to him and he left." She said
almost excitedly.

"Wow," was all I could manage to say.

"Yeah but that's not the end of it. After the fight he got on this really
huge drunk like he always does and came back to the house. It was like the
alcohol made him remember that the house was in his name too. So he
decided to throw mom out." She said quietly.

I could feel the anger rising in me as I got up to go into the kitchen for
a drink. I felt the sting of the vodka as it slid down my throat and
waited for her to continue.

"Mom had found her legs and she started running so to speak. You know how
the house wasn't much to talk about and wasn't actually worth very much.
Well the land is and the mining company has been trying to buy it for
years." She said.

"Yeah, they've been trying to do that since we moved there." I said
thinking back.

"Well mom stayed with me and she went the very next day to talk to a
lawyer. A few weeks later found us all sitting in divorce court. The
judge decided that since mom had helped with the house and paid for part of
it she is entitled to half of it." She continued.

"Good," I said somewhat relieved.

"Yeah, which meant that dad owed mom almost a quarter of a million
dollars." She said laughing.

"No fucking way!!" I said

"Yeah, so he had to sell the house and the land. He took his part of it
and moved somewhere, and Mom bought a nice little house in town. She also
put a little chunk away for a nice long vacation." She said happily.

"Wow, I wondered all these years if she had it in her." I said.

"Yeah me too," she said, "but it looks like she did after all."

"So I guess this is why you haven't called?" I asked.

"Yeah, I been talking to everyone else in the family but you. I just
wanted it to all be over and things settled down before I called you." she
said almost sadly.

"I wish you would have called me," I said.

"I know but you've been through enough with that man you don't need anymore
of his shit." She said.

I could hear the baby jabbering in the background. Well she wasn't exactly
a baby anymore but the last time I saw her she was. She was almost 6 years
old now.

"So back to the main reason I called, mom wants to talk to you but she's
afraid you'll be mad." She said cautiously.

"I'm not mad at her," I said, "but I hope I never see dad again."

My sister got quiet. She knew that there were years of bad blood between
out father and I and that wasn't going to change anytime soon.

"But I'll be happy to call her if you'll give me the number." As soon as
the words left my mouth I felt Josh's arms wrap around me.

"Ok, you got a piece of paper and I'll give you her address too." She said

"Hang on a sec," I said into the phone, "Josh baby will you hand me a paper
and pen."

He sleepily looked for a pen and I smiled when he triumphantly pulled one
out of the kitchen drawer.

"Thanks, baby," I said kissing him quickly. "Ok go ahead sis."

"Sounds like we have some catching up to do bubba," she said after she had
relayed the information.

"You have no idea," I said grinning as Josh laid his head on my shoulder.

"Well I just had an idea let me talk to him." She said quickly.

"What for?" I asked.

"ohh calm down and give him the phone," she said

"Ok hang on," I said then kissed Josh's cheek.

"Baby, my sister wishes to talk with you," I said.

His head shot up and he pointed at himself. I simply nodded my head and
handed him the phone. I walked outside as to give them some privacy and
lit another cigarette. I was just finishing it when I heard Josh call my
name.

"Scott, your sis wants to know if we will come for a visit." He said.

"Do you want to?" I asked him.

I could see the turmoil in his face. It looked like he really wanted to go
but he was afraid of how I would affect me. I smiled at the thought of how
I could read him so well.

"Baby, if you want to go it's fine by me," I said.

"You're okay with it," he said, "I mean you are gonna be okay walking back
into your old life again?"

"It's not my old life baby," I said kissing him, "Cause in my old life I
didn't have you. I'll be just fine."

He kissed me quickly and then began talking animatedly on the phone. I
laughed out loud when I saw how excited he was. After a few more moments
he handed the phone back to me.

"I love you baby," he said, "I'm gonna go hop in the shower."

"I love you too boo I'll be up in a little while." I said then kissed him

"Hey sis you still there?" I asked into the phone.

"My my, you certainly got it bad for this one." She said and I could hear
the smile in her voice.

"Yeah, I do." I said simply.

"And he has it just as bad for you," she said.

"How could you tell?" I asked.

"Cause all he talked about was your sorry ass." She said then busted out
laughing.

"Well, I've got him trained well." I said.

"Yeah sure, so let's get down to business." She said.

"Ok, what's the plan?" I asked.

She began relaying the details of her master plan. In about a week Josh
and I were gonna go up there. No one else would know that we were coming
but her. She was already planning this big get together to honor my moms
divorce and the fact that the family was finally free from my father.
Everyone in the family was coming and knowing her a bunch of people who
weren't in the family. I was just gonna show up with my man and let
everyone annoy us for hours.

It was no doubt going to be a very fun and very emotional time. Mom wasn't
even going to know I was coming. To insure it Josh and I were going to
stay at a hotel the first couple of nights we were there. I was still
talking on the phone when I went into my office and found Josh sitting
there booking plane tickets. I laughed at how excited he was. After
getting everything relayed to my sister we hung up. Josh turned around and
smiled.

"What's on your mind baby?" he asked me.

"My father is finally out of my life." I said slowly.

"I know baby, she told me," he said referring to the conversation he had
with my sister.

He just stood there holding me for a few more minutes before we turned out
the lights and went up to bed.

A week later found Josh and I sitting on a plane headed toward West
Virginia. The flight was nice and so far we hadn't been talking much. I
was just trying to get myself psyched out for seeing all my family again.
Due to a change in the scheduling we were flying in on the day of the
party. It was currently 4am and the flight was landing at 6. Josh and I
had been cat napping all the way. I looked over to find him asleep once
again. I smiled and laid my head over on his shoulder and went back to
sleep.

"Ladies and Gentlemen: may I have your attention please, we are on final
approach to Charleston's Yeager Airport..."The captain droned on about tray
tables and seatbelts as I tried to wake a sleeping Josh.

We were on our way to pick up our luggage and try to find my sister. Being
that it was 6 am on a Saturday the airport was relatively empty. We
claimed our bags and started walking towards the exit.

"Scott?" I heard an uncertain voice ask.

I spun around on my heels and saw my sister. It had been years since I had
saw her but she still looked the same. I ran to her and hugged her. I
turned around with my arm still around her.

"Sis this is my man, Josh. Josh this is my sister Susan." I said
introducing the two.

"So this is the man that finally managed to capture my brother's heart."
She said standing close to him.

"Nice to meet you," he said extending his hand.

She smiled and enveloped him in a hug. That's something I had almost
forgotten, how friendly my family was.

"Well Scott, he certainly looks like a keeper to me." she said laughing and
leading us out to her car.

About an hour later we were sitting in her living room talking over glasses
of iced tea. I had my arm draped over Josh's shoulder and he was looking
sleepier by the minute.

"Baby lay down and sleep a little." I said to him pushing his down onto my
lap.

He started to protest but he was too sleepy. He mumbled an "I love you"
before sleep finally overtook him. I sat there running my fingers through
his hair. A few minutes later I looked over to my sister saw her staring
at us smiling.

"What?" I asked.

"You're so in love, I can see it shining on your face." She said.

I just looked back down at the angel sleeping in my lap.

"I'm glad that you're smiling again," she said.

"What else would I be doing around this man." I said.

We talked quietly for an hour or so. I told her all about how we met and
all the things we had done. When I started telling her about our trip to
Jamaica she was cussing under her breath talking about what a lucky shit I
was. It was then I decided to tell her.

"Sue, there's something else that happened in Jamaica that I was planning
on telling everyone today." I said slowly.

"Ohh good god don't tell me you are thinking of moving there." She said
laughing.

"No this is something that I think you'll like." I said.

"Well don't keep me waiting." She prodded me.

I told her of our date and how it was the most perfect night of my life. I
told her of the dancing on the beach.

"...and then he gave me this," I said holding up my left ring finger.

"Oh My God Scott, it's beautiful." She said admiring the ring.

"Yes it is, and so is the meaning behind it," I said.

"Which would be..." she asked.

I loved my sister to death but sometimes she could be rather dense. But I
decided not to comment on it since it was so early.

"Your baby brother, is getting married." I said.

"AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh," she screamed, which caused Josh to startle awake.

"Baby, what's goin on?" he asked still very sleepy.

"I just told Sue about our trip to Jamaica." I said kissing his forehead.

He sat up and intertwined our fingers and tried desperately to wake up.

"Ohh god Scott I am so happy for you guys." She said almost crying.

"Thanks sis that means a lot to me," I said accepting the hug she offered.

After she had hugged Josh we sat down and continued to talk for a while
longer. Eventually I got suckered into making a dessert for the party. I
was busying myself with making the cake when I felt Josh put his chin on my
shoulder. He didn't say anything and neither did I. He seemed content to
just be close to me and watch what I was doing. I turned my head and
kissed him then went to put the cake in the oven.

When I turned back around he was standing there looking at me. I walked
into his arms and we stood there in my sister's kitchen just holding one
another. She walked in and stood there watching us.

"Ya know I hate to break up this lovely Kodak moment but we gotta get this
food in the truck and get ready." She said, "So get your asses moving."

I kissed Josh and laughed.

"Yes boss," I said then picked up some trays of food.

An hour and a half later we were putting things out at the park where she
had decided to have this grand shin dig. After everything was set up she
gave me her keys and told us to scram before anyone got there. She
obviously wanted it to be this big surprise. So Josh and I went driving
around my old hometown and we eventually ended up in the hospital parking
lot. It still looked the same and most of the same people were still
working there. I walked the halls like I had never left them and soon we
were standing in front of the door that said "Laboratory".

I knocked and walked in and as soon as I was in the door I heard screams.

"Oh my god what the fuck are you doing here." I heard a familiar voice
say.

"I came to see if your old ass was still here." I said without cracking a
smile.

I felt Josh tense slightly beside me as the woman moved closer.

"Well, I am glad you did," she said finally cracking a smile.

She ran to me and hugged me so tight I thought I would pop.

"Ohh it's good to see you too Sheryl." I said returning the hug.

After I had talked to and hugged everyone else in the lab we stood there in
silence. I watched as Sheryl eyed Josh up and down and finally spoke.

"And just who the fuck are you?" she asked.

"This is Josh," I said before he could speak, "My fiance."

Well that did it, another round of screams and hugs and we were all
standing around again. Sheryl looked like she was slightly frazzled and
everyone else looked tired as well.

"Come on ladies, it's time to revive a tradition." I said and they grinned
and went back to the locker area.

A few minutes later we were all standing outside and Sheryl and the others
were puffing on their cigarettes. I pulled one from my pocket and lit it.
We settled into idle conversation and talked about old times and what I had
been doing with myself. A few minutes later we were back in the lab and I
was still telling them all about my life. They were happy for me and I
noticed that Josh was quiet. After we had talked about everything we were
just sitting there shooting the breeze when my cell phone rang. I was
telling a story at the time so Josh picked it up and answered.

After he had hung up he looked over at me and waited for me to finish
talking.

"Baby, that was Sue, they're ready for us now." He said kissing my hand.

"Ok, well girls looks like me and my baby are gonna go make our grand
entrance at a big family party." I said.

After the goodbyes and hugs me and Josh were making our way towards the
exit. I had invited the girls to stop by and they said they might. We got
in the truck and I started driving back towards the park. About fifteen
minutes later I pulled into a parking space and shut the engine off. I
took a deep breath and looked over at Josh.

"Come on baby let's go be fabulous for everyone," I said then leaned over
to kiss him.

"You're a nut," he said after breaking the kiss.

"And that's why you love me." I said flatly and got out of the car.

We walked across the grass to what seemed like an enormous group of people.
We were halfway there when I felt Josh take my hand in his. I looked over
at him and winked. We were almost there when I spotted my mother. I
stopped dead in my tracks and almost pulled Josh down. She had her back
turned and was talking to my sister. When Sue spotted me she stopped
talking and turned my mother around to face me. The drink she was holding
hit the ground and seeped into the grass. I looked at her as her eyes
started to tear. It had been so long and now here was my momma. Looking
the same as she did years ago.

She closed the distance between us quickly and wrapped her arms around me
as she sobbed. I let Josh's hand slip from mine as I wrapped my arms
around her back. We stood there and cried not saying anything. After a
few moment had passed we broke the hug and she stood there looking at me.
I realized that Josh was standing there looking at me with love in his
eyes.

"Momma, there is someone I want you to meet," I said turning to face
Josh. "Mom this is my boyfriend Josh, Josh this is my momma."

"It's a pleasure to meet you ma'am." He said once again extending his hand.

"Call me Pat and the pleasure is all mine." She said giving him a hug.

Josh kissed me on the cheek and told me he was going to go talk to Sue. I
watched him walk off with a smile on my face.

"So he's the one who put the smile back on your face." She asked.

"Yeah," I said smiling.

We walked around and talked about all of the things that have been
happening in both of our lives. We cried a little and laughed little. And
an hour later it seemed that we had never been apart. We separated after
mom told me that I should go visit with the rest of the family. I felt
like I had just won the noble prize because of all of the questions they
were asking. After I had spent time with each of my 5 brothers and sisters
I found myself sitting there on one of the swings.

I had just fit many years of my life into a few hours of conversation. I
left out many of the parts because it just wasn't something I wanted to
talk about. I was facing the small river that ran through the town. It
seemed almost surreal that I was actually back here after all this time.

"Hey love," I heard someone ask, "How ya holdin up?"

I looked over and saw that Josh had taken a seat on the swing beside me.

"I'm fine baby." I said leaning over for a quick kiss.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"Yeah," I said smiling, "I had just forgotten how much my family liked to
talk."

"Damn, tell me about it," he said, "I have been raked over the coals by
every member of your family. Some of them got me twice."

"Awwww, poor baby," I said teasingly.

"Shuddup," he said grinning.

We just sat there for a few minutes watching the ducks in the river. I was
so glad that Josh was here to share this with me. I must admit my family
can be a bit overwhelming, but if you ever needed one of them they were
always there. Most of the time anyway. We sat there and I turned to face
Josh. I knew it was about time to make my big announcement but I was just
enjoying the peace and quiet. Josh turned to look at me and our eyes met.
I smiled at him and closed the distance between us. Our lips met and
everything else faded away. I was lost in him, the way his lips tasted
sweet, the way his hands were cupping my face. We were jolted out of our
kiss by a flash.

It was my sister with her camera.

She smiled at us before she said, "Sorry, I just couldn't resist."

"I'll forgive you on one condition." I said grinning.

"And that would be..." she said.

"That I get a copy of it." I said then laughed.

"Deal." She said then walked off.

Josh and I got up and walked around the park a little. We weren't saying
much of anything but he was there with me and that was all I needed. I was
looking at the places around the park. They brought back so many memories.
I looked back over the open center of the park. I saw my entire family
gathered around four picnic shelters. My sister wasn't usually one to do
things on a large scale but this time she had managed to get a great deal
of stuff to that tiny little area. I realized then that I was hearing
music. It turns out that my sister in law had brought her speakers and
that stuff from where she sang in church and they were playing music.

Everyone was having a good time and Josh and I decided that it was time for
us to go make our big announcement. We walked slowly back toward the crowd
and saw everyone dancing. We decided to wait until the song finished so I
took one of the microphones and when the song had finished I tapped the mic
to get everyone's attention.

"Alright people ya'll shut the fuck up," I said jokingly.

After a few murmurs from them and a laugh from Josh at how I had suddenly
become extremely country I began.

"I guess I should start off by saying how good it is to see all of you
again and all that shit, but there is something that I have to tell you. I
know that all of you have been raking my man over the coals all day and I
would like to say stop it!! Anyway I guess you are all wondering why I am
up here with this mic in my hand, and I'll tell ya right now it ain't to
sing karaoke. I just wanted to let you know that something big has
happened. You know all these years how I bitched about not havin anyone.
Well now I do, and he has made me happier than I have ever been in my
entire life. I'm sure you've all heard the story of how we met and
probably a couple of other stories. But I just wanted to tell you all that
because my baby has made me this happy I am marrying him."

I was nearly trampled but the flood of people who came to hug and
congratulate me. It was overwhelming and I saw Josh looking somewhat like
a deer in headlights. So I decided it was time to put an end to it.

I held the mic back up and said, "Hey, guys calm down and give me my baby
back."

I went on to tell them that we hadn't made any formal plans as of yet and
hadn't set a date but promised them that we would let them know so they
could come. After I had finished explaining all of that my sister in law
Jean took over being the DJ. When I heard the slow country song I wanted
to dance with Josh. So as the music began I walked up to him.

"May I have this dance?" I asked.

"Of Course angel." He said tenderly.

He wrapped his arms tightly around me and I felt like every eye within
thirty miles was staring at us but I didn't give a damn. We got completely
lost in our own little world. Just me, him, and the music as we swayed and
I sang softly to him.

Maybe Tonight We could close the door And lock ourselves inside Take time
to feel I don't wanna miss the chance to be so real The days all fly away
and I forget the truth everything that matters is in this room When you lie
next to me Breathin the air I breathe We don't have to speak Just be And
love's a precious thing Don't wanna waste a day Or one more minute Without
you in it Life is so sweet When you lie next to me My heart Is yours And
every part of me still wants to give you more More time To love Cause you
never know when life will leave us I wanna take in all the beauty here Let
the world around us just disappear When you lie next to me Breathin the air
I breathe We don't have to speak Just be And love's a precious thing Don't
wanna waste a day Or one more minute Without you in it Life is so sweet
When you lie next to me Ohhh lie next to me When you lie next to me
Breathin the air I breathe We don't have to speak Just be Love's a precious
thing Don't wanna waste a day Or one more minute Without you in it Life is
so sweet When you lie next to me When you lie next to me..

By the time the song had finished Josh and I were kissing softly. We broke
the kiss and stood with our foreheads pressed together and looked into each
others eyes.

"I love you boo," I said softly.

"I love you to angel," he said.

Then we kissed again. As we stood there lost in each other we could hear
the catcalls from everyone standing around us. I simply lifted one hand
off Josh's shoulder and gave them the finger. When we finally broke the
kiss Josh grabbed my hand and my sister announced that it was time to eat.
We got in the line and when we started putting things on each others plates
we got strange looks, but we didn't even say a word.

We sat down at the table with my mom and Sue and started eating.
Occasionally I would steal a bite off of Josh's plate and he kept picking
at mine as well. When we got down to the dessert I started to feed him.
He always told me that I have a gift for cooking and I just told him yeah
right and went on about my business. He seemed to be enjoying the piece of
fudge cake I was feeding him. Of course he would return the favor here in
a minute because he knows that if he had chocolate and I didn't I would
castrate him.

A little later we were all finished eating and me and momma were talking
over on a bench. She had invited me and Josh to come stay with her instead
of a hotel. I told her I would talk to Josh about it. At that time he
decided to come over and sit down on my lap. He laid his head over on my
shoulder and closed his eyes.

"Are you tired baby?" I asked him.

"A little, but I'll be ok," he said his eyes still closed.

"Well momma has invited us to come stay with her, I told her I would ask
you," I said kissing his forehead.

"It's up to you baby," he said trying to stifle a yawn.

"Come on I am gonna take you somewhere to get some rest," I said pulling
him up.

"No, I'll be fine," he tried to protest.

"Shhh, I know you're tired and I am gonna let you rest," I said.

I walked over to mom who was talking to Sue. I told her that Josh was
exhausted and we were wondering if we could go back to your place and
sleep. She dug in her purse and got her keys. She told me to take her car
and just leave the door unlocked and my sister would give her a lift home.
I kissed her on the cheek and walked back over to Josh. He had fallen
asleep on the bench.

I looked down at him and then did the only thing I could think of. I
picked him up and started carrying him across the park to where mom had
parked her car. After I had put him in the seat I went around and got in
behind the wheel and started off towards mom's house.

We arrived a few minutes later and I was very impressed. It was one of the
nicer homes in the area and looked quite cozy from the outside. I managed
to get Josh inside and found a room that looked like it had never been
used. I laid him down on the bed and he wouldn't let go of my neck. I
tried to get away but he kept mumbling for me to stay. Finally I conceded
and laid down beside him. He immediately curled up next to me. I felt
myself start to drift off, but before I was completely asleep we mumbled
our love to each other.

It was sometime later and the party at the park had broken up almost an
hour ago. Pat stood looking in the door of the room where her baby boy
laid in bed with his fiance. She looked on at them and noticed that they
were both smiling. She was so glad that he had found someone as perfect
for him as Josh was. It had taken her a minute but she realized what they
had been doing when filling their plates. They new one another so well
that they didn't even need words to communicate. They knew what the other
liked to eat and drink. To her it seemed like they knew everything about
one another. Scott had told her earlier that Josh knows everything, and he
meant it. All the turmoil that he had been through Josh knew about it.
She looked on and remembered that Scott had said earlier that it was well
worth it. She smiled when she realized that they completed each other.
She closed the door to the room and walked to her room to get ready. She
knew that everything would be ok. And that thought comforted her as she
fell into the best sleep she had had in years.
