When Daniel got home on the Monday evening he felt sad. He was already
missing Kevin despite having sent texts during the day declaring their love

"When are you seeing him again?"

missing him already?"

Dad?"

"Just wondered; never thought I'd love someone so much that I'd miss them
even after a few hours and knowing I won't see them for several days."

"Love is like that but you get used to being apart and if you're really
unlucky like we were then losing them all together."

"Will you find someone else do you think?" Daniel then asked.

"Unlikely; your dad was a very special person and I doubt I'd ever find

Daniel blushed as he realised what his mother was referring to.

The rest of the week seemed to go by slowly for Daniel. He and Kevin called
each other every day and spoke about how much they loved each other and how
they missed being together. He'd arranged a day off for the Friday and his
boss didn't seem to query why he wanted it at such short notice.

He'd arranged with Kevin that he'd be at the firm by ten so on the Friday
morning he got dressed in a smart pair of trousers, white shirt and a
casual jacket. Kevin had told him there was no need for a tie which pleased

set off. His mum worked on a Friday so he'd said he'd be back during the
afternoon to collect her and Joe for the meal at Kevin's apartment.

"Hi Daniel" Chris the secretary said as he walked in. Kevin had already

"And me" Daniel replied before sitting down in the chair being offered by

A few minutes later, Chris arrived with two cups of coffee and paused for a
moment.

"Thanks Chris" Kevin grinned, "I'll bring Daniel out in a few minutes and
you can tell him all about what you do".

Chris left beaming. He was going to have Daniel all to himself.

By the end of the morning, Daniel had been introduced to Robert, who was

Over lunch they discussed the job some more and the pay and

Daniel confirmed he was but he'd noticed that when other staff left they

motto! Still, if they do you can either join us immediately or have some
time off; up to you" Kevin replied.

Daniel said he'd rather get stuck in immediately so it could be he would be
starting work at the new firm on the Tuesday.

"Brilliant, we certainly need someone as soon as possible and young Chris
won't mind having you sooner."

Daniel set off feeling elated. Not only had he found a boyfriend but he'd

Once they'd reached the top floor, Daniel rang the intercom on Kevin's

his mum would like Kevin.

Daniel on the lips as he walked in noticing Joe's face as he did so.

"Hi Mrs Taylor, lovely to meet you" Kevin said offering his hand before
Daniel had a chance to introduce them.

"And you Kevin" his mum replied somewhat taken aback at Kevin's good looks
and attractive manner. She immediately warmed to him and could see why her

"And you must be Joe" Kevin was now saying as he took hold of Joe's hand

"Come on through, the meal will look after itself for a moment" Kevin then
said as he led the three into the living room.

his food; I've noticed Daniel certainly does" Kevin chuckled.

"Goodness no, I'm pleased for both of you. All I ask is that you look after
him for me; he means a lot to me especially now his father has passed
away."

Kevin moved over to where she was standing and placed his hands on her
shoulders.

"Daniel means the world to me, so never fear I will look after him with my
life" he said before giving her a light kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you Kevin; and I know Daniel loves you as much so I'm very happy for
both of you."



"What are you two gassing about?" Daniel giggled as he walked into the
kitchen with Joe following on behind.

"So do you think you'll be moving in with him?" Joe then asked.

"If this next week goes okay then yes; will you mind being left on your own
with mum?"

Joe thought for a moment, "Nah, expect I'll manage".



In the other room, Kevin and Pam were talking about their respective losses
in their lives; Pam's husband and Kevin's parents.

"That must have been a terrible time for you Kevin" Pam commented.

Kevin nodded. It had been and at the time he wondered how he'd ever get
over it.

"Meeting Daniel has made such a difference to my life you know Pam; he
really is a lovely guy; you must be very proud of him."

Pam smiled, she really did like this young man and she could fully
understand why her son had fallen for him.

"I am; the last two years have been very difficult for both of them but
they've got on with life which is all you can do isn't it."

Kevin nodded again thinking back to how he'd coped during the last five
years.

"I really will look after him you know Pam" he suddenly blurted out.

"I know you will Kevin; I have no doubt about that and I'm very happy for
both of you. Seeing you two together and the love you have for each other
reminds me of how my husband and I were; we too were very much in love and
ours was also love at first sight so I know how you're both feeling."

eyes.



When it was time for Pam and Joe to leave, Kevin insisted on them taking a
taxi home instead of the tube even though the station was only five
minutes' walk away. Once the commissionaire had announced that the taxi had
arrived, Daniel and Kevin went down with Pam and Joe to see them off. As
they said goodbye to each other, Daniel slipped a twenty pound note into
Joe's hand.

"That's for the taxi fare mate and you can keep the change" he grinned as

Daniel said he'd call during the week as they climbed into the taxi and
finally watched it drive off before going back inside.
