Colin frowned for a second and then said " Which one? MacIntosh or Apple
boy. I am twenty two years old and I've worked in a kitchen since I was
fifteen. I was a Roundsman for two years as well a a Pantry Chef for
three. I've been a Potager and Legumier , Vegetable Chef for two years. And
I worked helping the Pastry Chef at the last two places I worked. That's
why I came in earlier today to apply for this job."

Roy said "He's been helping Armand with the soups during the lunch crowd
and did great."

David frowned at Roy and said " Well Roy is my Sous Chef and knows what I
like and need. There's a large pile of apples that need sauteing for three
desert dishes. Let's have Colin dive in there and I'll watch over him as
you take your nap before the late dinner crush comes in."

Roy said "Thanks Love. Now listen Colin. You just follow orders from David
like you did me and you won't have any problems. OK."

Colin said "Yes Sir. Thank you Roy."

David saw the look on Colin's face and wondered what was going on. More
than just hiring a new kid.

Roy gave David a little kiss before he said "We'll talk after my nap. OK

David said "Sounds good. I'll try not to run Colin into the ground before
then."

David gave Roy a kiss back and Roy went upstairs to their little apartment
that was built in the back of the Restaurant."

David led colin to the prep area for the deserts and said " Peel about
sixty then slice half into quarter inch slices for sauteing now then we'll
reserve them in the fridge for when needed. The other half gets cut into
chunks for a pastry I do just before the dinner crowd starts coming in. So
don't start sauteing until you get the other half cut up and to me. OK?"

Colin smiled and said "Yes Sir."

David said "And you can call me David. I prefer that to Sir."

Colin said "Yes David. Thanks for giving me a chance."

David said "You're welcome." Before he walked over to the Pastry area that
the Pastry Chef had cleaned up before he left for his other job.

Not thirty minutes later David felt someone walking with a heavy gait
towards the Pastry ovens. David had only a few orders for Yorkshire pudding
but still had to make sure the damn things didn't fall too much. Colin
appeared and said "Where do you want the chunk cut apples?"

David said "What I really want is for you to walk a little more softly when
near these ovens. OK? That kind of heavy tread can drop a souffle in a
second. You're lucky this time, since they're just Yorkshire puddings in
muffin tins. They will fall no matter what. But fallen souffles will really
piss me off."

Colin frowned and then said "Sorry David. No one ever told me about the way
I walk. I'll walk softer. Thanks."

David smiled and said "OK then. Just put them down there and saute the
others in two sticks of butter with a cup of sugar and two table spoons
cinnamon and a dash of the almond oil. I'll be over in a few minutes to see
how it's going."

Colin said "Yes David " and walked back to the prep area. David pulled the
Yorkshire puddings out and got them to the Roast chef who was just then
making the gravy for the three dishes. David cut in and said " Carve. I'll
set it up." The muffin like Yorkshire puddings went down first and the
sliced beef went next to them. David left an area for the asparagus tips to
go and poured the gravy over the pudding and beef. Then they were handed
off to the Vegetable chef and then shuttled of the the waiter.

David checked up on the progress Colin was making. Colin was turning the
apples very well and seemed in his element.

Roy came back from his nap with a smile and a kiss. The rest of the evening
went well and Colin was well received by the rest of the staff. As the
youngest, Colin was expected to clean up with the dish washer. But Roy told
David that he would supervise and said he'd be up later.

Roy said "Be naked by the time I get up there. OK?"

David said " OK, but I'll be showered by then, so don't complain about me
smelling clean, like last time."

Roy said "As long as you don't complain about me getting my sweat on you."

David said " Naw. I kinda like it when you do that." They kissed and David
went upstairs and showered. He wrapped a towel around his hips and sat on
the recliner in the front room of their apartment above the restaurant. He
dozed off and woke to the sound of a whispered "He might have fallen
