Fifteen year old Joshua Moon has had a really bad time since his mum died

Three weeks later

nearby pub and parked up it was then that Simon showed Gary the newspaper.

Gary was in pieces when he realised that Max had been badly attacked by
some guy but was in a worse state when he realised that the police were

Simon drove Gary back home where Gary knew he needed to speak to his wife
to explain what's been going on all this time when he goes to London.

After some soul searching Gary finally sat Jayne down and told her
everything. Jayne was shocked and told Gary to get out.

Gary left the house and walked for a while until finally phoning Simon and
told him that Jayne had thrown him out and that he was going to the police
station to speak to them. Simon told him to wait and that he would go with
him.

The two men walked into the police station and Gary spoke to the desk
sergeant. The sergeant took Gary's statement and thanked him for coming in
but told him that the metropolitan police would probably be in touch to
speak to him. Gary told them that he would be staying with his brother for
a while and gave them that address.

Gary came out of the interview room to see that Simon had been interviewed
also. "Why did they interview you?" Gary asked "well actually I thought
about Josh and that guy who attacked him I was wondering whether it was
linked" Simon said "yeah it has to be" Gary said

The two men left the police station as they came out they saw Jayne and
baby Thomas standing there

"umm Gary I think you have someone waiting for you" Simon said pointing
toward Jayne

Gary walked over to his wife

Jayne said "I just want to know why" "why would a married man go to London
to pick up rent boys for sex"

Gary said "I don't know why but I cant stop it and it is not rent boys its
just one his name is Max and well I m sorry I cant give him up"

Jayne said "well we need you I cant cope on my own with this one and a job"

Gary said "problem is I'm in total love with Max and I cant help it and now
I've found out what has happened to him I need to go and see him" Jayne
said "well if you are going to see him I'm coming with you I want to meet

Gary reluctantly agreed

Two days later

Gary was getting ready while Jayne had taken Thomas to her parents to stay
while they were away. There was a knock at the door.

Gary walked to the door and saw a man in a suit standing there

The guy said "are you Gary Reynolds?"

Gary said "yes and you are?"

"I'm Dc Peter Bennet from the Metropolitan police's serious crime unit I m
here to ask you a few questions in ref to the serious assault on the male
prostitute Maxwell French" the guy said

"well you better come in" Gary said showing the young officer into the
living room

"now first of all I will point out that Max has already told us you were
not the guy who assaulted him but I just need to know if you saw anybody
else hanging round the area when you met up with Max" dc Bennet said

"The guy who assaulted Max also assaulted another male prostitute that

profile for a while and then returned later where he picked Max up." Peter
said

"I spoke to your brother earlier and he gave me a description of the man
who assaulted young Joshua Moon that night. Did you know your brother

"Yeah he told me the next morning and when we went out to find Max and Josh
they were no where to be seen but obviously now I know why." Gary said

"thank you for your help Mr Reynolds I understand it must have been really
hard coming forward with a young family like yours" Peter said

"yeah it was but if I wish I could have helped more" Gary said

"Yeah there is one more thing we need a DNA sample so that we can eliminate
your DNA from Max's clothes.

"No problem" Gary said


 Dc Bennett took a swap from Gary's mouth and placed it into a jar. He then
thanked Gary and left

Gary was sat in the lounge when Jayne arrived back shortly after.

"You ok?" Jayne asked

"I'm fine just had the police here asking more questions and they took a
dna sample" Gary said

Gary was totally eliminated from the enquiry as the hotel also confirmed
that where as Max left Gary hadn't left the hotel all that evening.


Gary and wife Jayne checked into a different hotel to the one Gary usually
checks into. They had found out from the police that Max was still in
hospital but was recovering well. Gary and Jayne went into the ward and saw
a battered Max sitting in a chair reading a car magazine

Max looked up and saw Gary he got out of his chair and ran over and hugged
him. Gary then introduced Jayne to Max.

Max was taken aback that even though he had always known about her that she
had also come to see him.


By the end of the visit Jayne could see that Max and Gary were meant to be
together and after going back to the hotel she sat down with Gary and said
"much has this pains me to say I can definitely see that you two are very
much in love but you cannot keep coming to London all the time maybe once
he is out of hospital you can ask him to come and live with us"

Gary said "are you serious?"

Jayne "yeah because like I said the other day Thomas and me cant do without
you and if it means I have to put up with Max in out lives so be it but I
would rather it was under our roof instead of some seedy hotel somewhere"

Gary hugged Jayne and said " I'm sorry I've put you through all this shit"

Jayne said "Gary you haven't we went through this because some idiotic
homophobic bastard decided to beat up the lad you love"

Two weeks later and Max was realised from the hospital and Gary was waiting
to take him home to his new home with him Thomas and Jayne. Max said a
tearful farewell to Josh as he got in the car

Josh was now really scared as this was the first time he was truly alone as
Max was always there watching over him but didn't need to worry as his life
was about to change for the better also

But that is coming in part two

Also in part two Max starts to settle into his new found family
