                                "WE HAVE TO TALK"

Montgomery sat huddled against the barn, the cold sharp wind was biting at
his uncovered face. The black sky was lit with the beautiful
constellations of the stars. Wishing he had studied astronomy, he
attempted to make out the different symbols, but with no success. Dawn was
only an hour away or so, but he had to get out of the house and spend some
quiet time alone. With the arrival of Bill, the house seemed crowded with
the three of them inside, and he never got his morning time alone that he
loved so much. A hot thermos full of strong black coffee, and big mug
full, the steam rising almost covering his face, he sat wrapped in a horse
blanket, pondering the stars. He was so confused about the way his life
seemed to be meandering along. No direction or purpose. That irritated
the hell out of him, he liked knowing where he was headed and how he was
going to get there.

Bill had seemed so subdued since that incident with the Talmadge brothers.
While he seemed thankful, he was more distant than ever. The bitter taste
of the coffee in his mouth made him grimace, and spit it out. It seemed
like nothing tasted good, smelled pleasant or looked appealing to him these
days. You try to make a bad situation better, and it seemed to be non
productive, even resented, he decided. He had refused to talk about it,
only Steve the sheriff really knew the story and when he was asked, he
either ignored the question or just shrugged his shoulders. Not one to
brag or want to be the center of attention, Montgomery stayed away from
town. The gossip mill embellished the story and had him whipping both of
the brothers in the middle of town. Bill continued to avoid him when no
one was around. So the opportunity to talk never arose.

Even Dave seemed to be out of sorts lately. He was doing a great job as
before, but the enthusiasm had waned considerably. And he was just as
distant as Bill, maybe even more so. The laughter and jokes had quit, and
Montgomery was just too tired to make the effort to force the
issue. Sometimes he would catch Dave looking at him. He couldn't read his
expression though, as much as he tried to. He wondered if Dave had
pleasant memories of that one tryst or was he trying to force them out of
his mind.

Work on the upcoming auction was wearing him out. He needed to hire a
couple of more hands to get everything ready, and work until the following
weekend, many would haul out their purchases that day, but several would be
left for the commercial haulers to ship the horses. He rubbed his tired
bloodshot eyes, and then he saw the neighbor's boy he had hired to help
out. Silently he joined him, helping with the morning chores. The boy was
an excellent worker and didn't really need his help, but he had to get to
school, so the more quickly he was finished the more time he had to study.
Watching as the boy left in his beat up old pickup, he hunkered back down
and wrapped the horse blanket around him again. He poured himself another
cup, just sat watching as the sun finally began to rise. It seemed to move
as slowly as he did, probably tired of it all like him too, he mused. The
light burned his sleepless eyes. It felt like sand was trapped underneath
his lids. He wanted to just rest, and think, but there was no time for
either. He barely noticed the way the light cascaded over the hills, as he
stood up. He decided as he trudged toward the house that he was not having
sex with anyone, until his life was on an even keel, and then it had to be
more than just a passing sexual attraction, this bit about having sex with
someone, and afterward they become distant was ridiculous in his
estimation. His steps slowed as he got closer, dread filled him. Being in
his own home was no longer a comfortable place to be.

When he entered the kitchen, all casual talk between Bill and Dave ceased.
The conversation was completely limited to work, and the upcoming sale.
Montgomery listened carefully as they ran down the list of things that were
ready and those that needed more attention. There was no rancor in their
voices, but it was almost emotionless. He wanted to scream, shout or cuss
them, anything to extract any emotion from them, but he only nodded, and
thanked them for the good job they were doing.

Bill and Dave left. Dave had gone to town running some errands for the
upcoming sale, and to get some needed supplies. Bill was out in the barn,
grooming and handling some of the young stock, preparing them for the
upcoming event. Time alone, he thought, this was a luxury not to be
ignored. He began to pour over pedigrees, and jotting down notes to be
added to the auctioneers comments during the sale, when the silence was
broken by the phone. He tiredly picked it up on the fourth ring.

"Hello, Chase Stables" he barely got the words out.

"Hell, ya old dog, what's your problem?" it had to be Clay.

"I'm tired Clay, I told you I wasn't ready for this auction, and I'm worn
down to a nub."

"Isn't Dave doing what he is supposed to? I'll jump his ass if he is
slacking off."

"No, Clay, he is doing everything right, and working hard too. So is Bill,
I guess I'm just emotionally drained. It was too soon since Carla's death
for me to take this much on."

"I'm coming right over to get you Monty, and you and I are going for a
drive."

"No, Clay, I simply can't. I have too much to do, and I can't leave Bill
alone with the young stock. You know, working with young stock can be
difficult and dangerous."

"Hell Monty, I didn't ask, I'm telling you and I'll bring a couple of my
help over to help Bill and stay with him" he hung up before Montgomery
could tell him to stay home.

The pickup bounded along an unfamiliar road to Montgomery. He thought he
knew all the back roads in this area. The road was rough, hadn't been
paved, still graveled, and didn't look like it had been traveled in a long
time.

The conversation had been about everything but the auction and him being
overwhelmed. When the topic turned to the confrontation he had with the
Talmadge brothers, he would only say that all he did was what should have
been done along time ago.

"Well, I don't know what the hell you did Monty, but they are changed boys.
Everyone comments on their new attitude and appearance. I'm even thinking
about hiring one of them. I need another good hand."

"Well. Rick is a pretty good hand with livestock, I don't know about his
brother, but if he is half as good, he would do alright." Suddenly the
road stopped. Clay pulled the pickup over to the side of the road, and
turned it off and got out.

"C'mon Monty, I want to show you something." He walked quickly towards a
rise just a few feet away. Montgomery watched as his friend, back ramrod
straight, marched in front of him, wondering what the hell he was up to.

Montgomery held his breath, the view was magnificent. From this vantage he
could look over not only his place, but also Clay's and other neighbors.
Finding a protruding rock they sat side by side, silent, awestruck by the
majesty of this beautiful sight.

"This is where I come when I need to get away Monty. It always rejuvenates
me. Quiet and peaceful, the world seems to stand still and then I can go
back with a fresh perspective on things" Clay spoke softly, his eyes raptly
taking in the vista.

"I can see why" Montgomery replied. His voice hushed, spellbound by the
panorama spread before him. "As long as I have lived here, I didn't know
this existed."

"Monty, how long have we known each other?" Clay asked, not taking his eyes
from the scenery.

"A long time Clay. Long enough to know, that we not only like, but respect
each other, you are my best friend."

"Yes, we are Monty. I know that Carla's death was hard on you, and Ethel
and I miss her a lot too. But there is something going on with you Monty,
we both can sense it. You are a changed man, we like most of the changes,
you seem more sure of yourself, and you are learning not to take crap from
anyone, Carla always handled things like that for you. But something is
bothering you a lot and it shows. Your face shows worry that was never
there before, and you don't smile and laugh like you used to. Want to talk
about it?" Ethel must have put him up to this, Montgomery thought. Clay
was never one to talk about feelings and such.

"I'm not sure I'd know what to say Clay, I do know that I'm at a cross
roads, but I'm not sure what the choices are anymore. I'm floundering
trying to just tread water right now." He kept his eyes forward, not
wanting to risk looking at his best friend.

That evening, after settling down on the sofa, he laid awake, thinking
about everything Clay had said. The one thing that really got to him was
the parting comment from him.

"Monty, you know that Ethel and I love you, and no matter what, we will
always love you. So if you need to talk, there is nothing that you can say
that would make us not want you around anymore." A strange remark from a
man of few words Montgomery thought. As a matter of fact, Clay had said
more today on a personal level than he had said probably their entire
friendship.

He closed his eyes, thinking about first Bill, then Dave, remembering the
how Bill had sucked him, and how good his ass had felt gripping his cock
when he was fucking him. Then about Dave, and his cock, how good it
tasted. It was his first taste of cock and ass. He reached under the
blanket, and began to grope his hardening cock. One hand was tugging his
nipple, gently twisting it. He groaned quietly, switched to the other
nipple. Tugging it, it made his cock throb. Then he slipped it under the
covers too, and started massaging his balls, as his other hand slid so
lightly up and down his now achingly hard cock. He couldn't figure out why,
but he always kept coming back to the memory of Bill's ass, wondering if he
tasted as good there as Dave had. His mind wandered down the trail in the
valley between the full round mountains on Bill's hard muscled ass. He was
licking his lips, wishing he had licked that delightful manly meal, spread
before him. One hand massaging his balls, the other slowly stroking his
hard cock, rubbing precum with his thumb into the head, he was lost in the
fantasy with Bill. Gone was the thought that Bill was only interested in
sex after a few drinks. His toes curling with the wonderful sensations
spreading from his cock into his balls, and down the muscles of his legs.
Visions of him spreading Bill's ass cheeks, and eating that sweet rosebud,
then slowly fucking that scrumptious man hole had him breathing heavily as
he stroked closer to his orgasm. In this fantasy, he was kissing him, a
shared passion. The thought of Bill's cock in his mouth and yes, even
getting fucked by him, made his breath catch in his throat. He bent his
knees, feet on the sofa, and spread wide. His finger slowly slid down,
until it was brushing across his virgin hole. Probing, he teased and
pushed until it slid up to his knuckle and began to move around inside. My
god, he thought as he slowly finger fucked his hole for the very first
time, why didn't I do this before? A slight moan escaped from his lips.
He was trying to be quiet and not wake Dave or Bill. The feeling in his
ass amazed him, he could feel it opening and drawing his finger in
deeper. The searing hot sensations pulsed up his body, until he was
frenziedly humping his hand. His thighs were trembling. His rough gnarled
hand clenched the sensitive head of his now excruciatingly tender cock
head. Rotating his fist, he gasped with the agonizing pleasure it induced.
Not able to contain it any longer, he stroked quickly, and fingered his
hole going over the precipice. The cum spewed forth coating his stomach.
Geysers of his thick hot cum blasted out of his cock, until he was spent.
Slowly stroking his cum slicked softening rod, he sighed. The orgasm
caught him completely by surprise, he didn't realize how intense it would
be. The hot sticky substance on his cock, hand and stomach soaked into his
skin as he flopped down, like a rag doll from the after effects of the
powerful orgasm. He slowly, tentatively scraped some of his cum up with
his finger and brought it up to his lips. Hesitating, before he stuck out
his tongue, he lapped it up. Another first for him. He had never tasted
his own cum before. Not so bad he thought. Then he chuckled, if anyone
had told him a few weeks before that he would be a cum eater and a cock
sucker, he probably would have beat the shit out of them. He pulled up the
blanket, and rolled over on to his side, sticky cum drying on him, and
drifted off into a very restful sleep.

Rick and Jake Talmadge sat nervously waiting in the tack room, while
Montgomery retrieved Bill from one of the paddocks. A quick call to Clay
had ensured that it was ok to hire them, and if they did well, then he
would hire them to work his place after the sale.

Montgomery paused, watching Bill from a short distance. Even covered with
the heavy warm clothing, he could see how muscular he was. The wisps of
bright red hair peeking out from under his hat sent chills up Montgomery's
spine. When Bill turned and looked at him, the cool weather had given his
cheeks a bright red glow. For the first time in several weeks, Bill smiled
as if he was really glad to see him. His insides shaking with desire,
Montgomery smiled back. He really needed to talk to him very soon. This
procrastination was driving him crazy, but now it was more important to get
through this auction first. Damn, I should never have agreed to it this
year, he thought.

"Bill, I've hired a couple of hands to help you with the horses, they will
bunk in your place to save time driving to and from town daily and if you
want you can continue sleeping up at the house." He continued as they
walked back to the barn. "You will be in charge of them, assign them their
duties and make sure they do it right." He stopped, turning Bill to face
him by grabbing his shoulder.

"It's Rick and Jake. Any problems at all with them, and they are fired.
You think you can handle them ok now?" The look on Bill's face went from
happy to angry, to fear in split second. "I believe they will respect you,
but if not, they are gone. Rick is a pretty good hand with horses, he used
to work for me and knows what I like and he says Jake is better than he
is."

"Bill" he continued, "They have changed. If I thought it was a bad idea I
would never had even considered it. Are you up for it?"

"Yes, I will have to face them sometime, I guess now is as good as any."
Bill took a deep breath squared his shoulders and headed towards the barn.

The meeting with Bill, Rick and Jake went well Montgomery thought. Once
inside the tack room, Bill took charge and described the routine for them,
assigning duties for each. The Talmadge brothers were very polite, and
respectful to him. And right as they headed out, Jake stopped Bill and
informed him that if he could forgive them, he would never regret it. All
in all a productive meeting Montgomery thought.

A renewed energy flowed through him, a spring was back in his step as he
left the barn and headed towards the house. Dave looked up at Montgomery
as he entered the dining room, now the temporary office and smiled warmly.
He seemed to be really glad to see him Montgomery thought, both of them
happy and smiling? They spent the rest of the morning hammering out the
last minute details. Dave appeared to be more enthused, even though
Montgomery made several changes, and pointed out the weak spots in Dave's
original plan. As they sat companionably at the kitchen table, after
lunch, the easy conversation of their past returned. Dave sharing a funny
story, reached over and placed his hand on Montgomery's arm. The heat
seared through him like lava flowing down the side of a mountain. This
threw Montgomery for a loop. His mind wandered. Dave and Bill's naked
bodies kept floating through his psyche. Was it only sexual attraction to
either or both or was it more? He utterly was baffled by these new
emotions.

Montgomery sat in the quiet morning, sipping the energizing coffee. It had
been several days since Rick and Jake had started, and things couldn't have
been more smooth he thought. They went out of their way to be nice to Bill
and worked extremely hard. Bill decided to bunk with them in his own
apartment, and they prepared all their meals, so now Dave just cooked for
the two of them. Dave seemed to understand his need for the quiet morning
contemplation he needed, and left him alone until he started the
conversation. Tomorrow was the big day, it had been a beehive of activity
this week. So far with few exceptions, the plan just fell into place.
Clay was coming over this afternoon to go over last minute details, his
attention to detail made him one of the best auctioneers around, by the
time the sale started he would have mentally catalogued every horse and
knew exactly what to say to make the best sales pitch. It had been so
busy, that Montgomery hadn't noticed if Bill and Dave were still distant.
He had managed a few times to masturbate, always ending up mostly
fantasizing about Bill, and each time the orgasm was very intense.

As he placed his empty coffee cup in the sink, he knew he had to figure out
why Bill's only interest in sex with him was under the influence of
alcohol. He was also pretty sure that Dave's only interest had been a one
time experience, after all, he hadn't been drunk and yet he didn't seem to
want more. He somehow felt that Bill was what he wanted, he couldn't call
it love or even a crush, but there was something special about him that
drew him. He pondered on Dave a few minutes, and yes, he thought he was
handsome, sexy, but it was only a passing fancy. The intimacy of that day
was just a learning curve for him, he realized, nothing more. Or was it?

Montgomery was absolutely positive he wanted a real relationship, the
shared dreams, hardships, and comfort provided by an equal partner he
desired more than just casual sex. And now he was sure he wanted it with a
man. But was it Bill or Dave or was it someone else? He sighed deeply,
wishing he could read their minds. He leaned against the sink, watching
the sun rise through the window. The glowing sunlight filled his soul,
warming his spirit and bringing a bright smile to his face. It was a new
day, and even though he still didn't know the answers, at least he knew
what it was he wanted now. Well now, he mused, now that I know, I just have
to figure out a way to get it. A peace he hadn't felt in a long time
descended on him.

"Monty are you ok" he felt a hand on his shoulder. Turning he looked into
Dave's concerned face. He reached over and patted him on his back.

"Yes, I'm fine" he answered. He took Dave by his hand and led him into the
living room over to the sofa where they had started that day. He felt a
hesitation in Dave as he sat next to him.

"Remember what sitting here led to last time?" he chuckled. "I know I
certainly think about it a lot." Dave grinned, and then blushed.

"Yes I do, seems like you took control didn't you?" Dave responded, a
sparkle in his eyes.

"Yes, that's true. We need to talk about it. I've sensed a wall has come
up between us and it's time we cleared the air." Montgomery said, taking
control again.

"Yes, we do need to talk." Came the faint reply. Dave's eyes grew large as
he took a deep breath.
