Pocatello Boy Chapter 22

Morning came quickly as 7 is early. Joe rolled over Cary and got up to turn
off the alarm. Then he headed, as usual for the John. He heard someone else
get up and Cary joined him in a piss. They both woke Todd together.  Todd
looked like someone who was being picked on, but managed to get up and head

Joe started the two shower heads and everyone piled in. There wasn't a

When they got to the kitchen Terry was already there. Joe sent him to get

Joe decided to just let everyone choose their favorite cereal as it was a

After the showers and dressing everyone joined in the living room. It

At 8:40 Joe went out and pulled out the van and closed the garage door.  He

When Joe got back in the van he started for Betty's office. It didn't take

Joe said, "Yes Betty this is an important day in their lives so I had them

"Well Joe I have the aptitude test all ready in the testing room. Tony, I
had a question for you. Since you are just 17 have you graduated from high
school?"

"Yes Mame, my mother let them put me ahead from the 3rd to the 5th grade
since I was doing straight A work. So I was always in a class of guys one
year older than me. I didn't like it at first but I got used to it."

"My that is some story. Do you have any idea what you might want to do in
life?"

"Yes Mame, I really want to be a pediatrician."

"A doctor, how ambitious. Were your grades in high school good enough to
support such an ambition?"

"Yes Mame, I was the valedictorian and had to speak at graduation. I got
straight A's all the way through. It wasn't hard for me to do that."

"My, MY! Then a pediatrician you shall be if that is what you want of
course with Joe's approval."

Joe chest was about to burst as he said, "Yes, Betty if that is what he
wants, then that is what he will be. As long as he realizes there are a lot
of hard years ahead of him."

Tony spoke up, "Thank you Joe, I don't care how hard it is that is what I
want to be."

Joe said, "Wow! I guess I really struck it rich. A veterinarian, and a
pediatrician."

Betty said, "Yes Joe I would say that is a little unusual."

"Well is anyone else already decided without taking the aptitude test."

"I am," said Terry. This may sound a little sissy but I really want to be a
nurse.  and then study on to be a nurse practitioner."

"My," said Betty. "A nurse practitioner is as close to being a doctor as
you can get, you even can write prescriptions."

Terry said, "I thought it out Betty, being a nurse practitioner I can do
the duties of a doctor but it is the doctor that I work under that has to
worry about the Mal practice insurance which is driving a lot of doctors
out of business."

"That is so true, you really did think that one out," Said Betty.

That just leaves Todd and Cary. "Would you two like to take the aptitude
test to see what field you might have a great interest in."

Both agreed they wanted to take the aptitude test so she took them to the
testing room.

When she returned she said, "Well with fall term starting in just two
months I want to give the rest of you a class schedule book. Most go the
course you will be taking will be 101 series courses as those are the
freshman classes. They don't vary much no matter what your final ambition
is. So why don't you take these schedule books and figure out what classes
you want making sure they don't over lap in time periods.  Then just before
school registration I will check them with you. OK.

They all agreed as she handed them the books. "Now you will have about two
hours before the boys finish the aptitude test so why don't you go about
doing something and come back then."

Joe thanked Betty and they left. Joe said, "Do you boys just want to go
home and wait. At least there you could go swimming or something."

Sure Joe they all chanted. So they got into the van and headed for home.

After the boys had gone into the pool area Joe went in his den. He got on
the computer and bought 6 round trip tickets for Los Angeles Airport and
rented a van so he could haul the boys around. He wanted most of all for
them to see Disneyland and Knot's Berry Farm before school started. He made
the round trip for two weeks stay so they would have plenty of time to do

After an hour or so Joe went pool side and called the boys out of the
water. He told them to go and shower off the chlorine and then get dressed
the same way they had been that they were all going out to dinner again.

That pleased them all so they followed his instructions and got ready just
in time to go back to Betty's and see how the boys were doing on the
aptitude test.

When they got there they found the two boys talking to Betty in her
office. They had both done real well on ambitions that lead to the business
world, so Betty told them to just start taking general freshman courses
with the others and that they could go ahead and declare a business major
or for that matter any major when that time came.  This seemed to please
both boys so she gave them a class schedule and the same instructions she
had the others. Then she told Joe he should be proud of such a bunch of
boys. It wasn't often one got a hand full of winners.

Joe thanked her for her compliment and then took the boys out to the
van. "Well boys you all made me very proud of you in there. Now it is past
noon are you hungry enough to eat at the Black Angus now."

They all agreed that since they just had a bowl of cereal early in the
morning that they were indeed ready to eat now and the Black Angus would be
so cool.

Joe drove to the restaurant. They had no trouble getting seated at a real
nice, very private table, as the lunch crowd was on it's way out. Everyone
had steak, some had steak and lobster, but they all ate hearty. Then Joe

What Joe, "Terry spoke up."

"Well this morning while you were swimming I made reservations for us all
