Pocatello Boy Chapter 23

When morning came there was nothing but excitement around the breakfast
table.

Joe asked, "How many of you boys have flown before?"

He got only one answer, Tony said, "I flew out here from the East a year
before my parents were killed in the accident."

All the rest of the boys had never flown before. For most of them if they
had only done limited travel most of it on their thumbs. Joe had to

Joe answered, "You know Terry most people have some fear of flying even if

Terry said, "I'm glad to hear I'm not alone then."

All the boys agreed that they had similar anxiety.

Joe said, "Well today I want you to get your dirty clothes washed and you
might want to get together on that and wash a washer full at a time so as
to save time.  The same thing with the dryer. Just be sure you wash only
whites in one load and dark clothes in the other."

With that some started washing their breakfast dishes and some were
finishing up eating but it wasn't long before they all went to their
bedrooms to get the clothes they needed to wash.

After a couple hours all clothes were washed and dried and everyone was
busy packing their brand new bags. Joe went around to each and reminded
them of some things people sometimes forget, like toothbrush, toothpaste,
shaving gear, cameras etc.

Joe told all of them to leave their bags in their rooms until tomorrow.
Their plane left at 1pm so they would have to be at the airport by 11 or so
for all the security checks that were now necessary because of the

The day went by fast and after watching a movie in the evening everyone
went to the bedroom they were going to sleep in and got ready to turn in

van. Joe would rather leave the van at the airport parking than his good

They had to park in the outer parking lot for long stay and load their bags
in a shuttle bus to get on into the airport. When they walked in the
terminal Joe looked at everyones faces. Most of them had never been in a
big city airport before. They were in absolute awe!

Joe told them they had to get in line to be inspected and to carry on their
small bags so they would not have to worry about them getting lost on the
flight.

They waited about 30 minutes to go through the metal detectors. Some of
them even had to take off their shoes. But they finally made it and went on
in to one of the airport snack bars and after getting some snack food they
filled a table by the window so the boys could watch what goes on at a big
airport. They were all eyes.

When it was about 30 minutes to boarding time Joe told them all to follow
him to their gate and wait for the announcement to board. He could tell
that announcement brought on some real anxious faces.

Gate 53 was quite a way down but thanks to the moving sidewalks, the first
most of them had ever seen, they got down there in about 10 minutes.

Joe told them all to have a seat and wait. Joe went to the counter and
asked if they needed any additional boarding passes and found out they
did. He got his and then sent the boys and sent them two at a time to get
theirs. It didn't take long before they were all ready and waiting.

Then the announcement will passengers with children and disabled passengers
please board now. They waited until their seat row block was called out and
went to the gate. After showing their boarding passes they boarded the
plane. Their seats were toward the rear which is safer they say. When they

In a few minutes the stewardess did her emergency procedure thing and I

Then the plane was pulled backwards by the tow and the engines started up

overhead and started toward the front of the airplane themselves.

When they got into the airport they followed Joe to Hertz Rent a Car where
Joe had reservations for a passenger van. He knew they would need a big
vehicle for all of them and their luggage. Joe asked the person behind the
counter how to go to get to Anaheim and the Disney Hotel. She told him the
instructions and off they went. It wasn't too difficult as it was mostly
freeway. When they took the Anaheim exit signs pointed to Disneyland and
Joe just followed them. They pulled up in front of the Disney Hotel and
were immediately greeted by a Vale who was there to take the car and park
it after they got their bags out.

When they went in Joe checked in and he had rented a two bedroom suite.
The bellhops took their bags and told them to follow. When they reached the
room on the top floor it was huge. It had a living room and two
bedrooms. It was very luxurious. The boys were in awe as they had never
seen anything quite like this. It was beautiful. They all followed Joe's
example and took a seat in the living room. Joe told them they wouldn't go
over to the park until after dinner.

They went ahead and changed clothes into something comfortable for the LA
climate as it was plenty warm out. Then Joe took them down to the dinning
room and they had a nice dinner. The dinning room was also quite

they would go over and see the park.

They got on the monorail which took them right to the park entrance. Joe
bought three day passes. He wanted to spend three days at Disneyland and
then go on to Knots Berry Farm.

When they were walking down main street all the lights started coming on
making it like a wonderland. Mickey Mouse was done in flowers at the
entrance which got many of the boys cameras going. Main street had them

They went first to Tomorrow land as the boys were all interested in
that. They spent several hours going on different rides and seeing
different features that the Tomorrow land offered. Then came the
announcement that the star light parade would be beginning on main street
in 15 minutes. So Joe having seen it before wanted all of them to see it
for sure. He had them all follow him to Main Street U.S.A. There they all
got a good vantage point and stayed still for the parade to come by. Now is
was totally dark out so when the parade of lights came by it was awesome. I
don't care how many times one has seen it it is still awesome with its
millions of lights all blinking on and off.

When the parade was over Joe suggested tomorrow was another day and that
they should probably take the monorail back to the Hotel.

When they got to the hotel Joe took them around the grounds of the hotel
which were also quite spectacular with water falls and a small lake where
one could rent paddle boats etc.

Finally they went to the room where Joe had room service bring several six
packs of Pepsi up which they placed in the furnished small refrigerator. Of
course they all had one too.

Since there were only two bedrooms three would take one king size bed and
three would take the other.

It ended up that Justin and Tony plus Terry took one room and Cary, Todd
and I took the other.

When we went to bed of course we went in our birthday suits all three with
