The Perfect Companion

1.

As Robin sat in his smart apartment that overlooked the river Thames he
went over in his mind the events of the past two months. He'd lived with
his partner for thirty five years. They'd both been twenty five years old
when they fell in love although Robin was six months older. Their love for
each had never waned throughout that time and when he suddenly died from a
heart attack Robin was stunned since Gerald had no history of heart
problems. The only saving grace was that he collapsed in Robin's arms so
was there when it happened. Even so it was an enormous shock and Robin was
only just getting over it. They'd both enjoyed good health, or so they
thought. The funeral had now taken place so life had to move forward
although it would never be the same without him.

Particularly upsetting was the fact that Gerald was on the cusp of retiring
from his job. He'd decided to do so at age sixty since Robin had sold his
legal business six months previous and they'd decided to enjoy life doing
things together. They'd both worked hard, Robin as a lawyer running his own
practice for thirty years, and Gerald as a successful architect. To
celebrate their new freedom together they'd booked a six week trip to
America. Robin's first thought was to cancel the trip but several friends
had said he should still go and perhaps find someone to join him. Having
thought about the matter he'd decided to do just that. The question was,
who?

Both of them had been fortunate in having parents who'd accepted their
sexuality, albeit slowly at first, but once they realised how much they
were in love with each other both sets had said they were very happy for
the couple. Sadly they too had passed away several years before so the only
family Robin now had was a younger brother who was married with two
children. All of them accepted Robin for what he was and in fact was a
favourite uncle, as had been Gerald; he'd been an only child so loved
spoiling Robin's nephews.

In fact it had been one of the nephews who'd suggested to Robin that he
should find a nice young man to accompany him on the trip. It caused Robin
to think and since he could easily afford to provide a young man a six week
all expenses paid trip to America, he had decided to see if he could find
someone to fit the bill. He knew that Gerald would approve since they'd
often joked about finding a younger man when one of them popped their
clogs. So, it was with these thoughts that he pulled out his iPad and
started to draft an advert.

"Young gay companion required to accompany a mature gay guy on a six week
all expenses paid trip to America. Ideal age twenty five to thirty,
although any age considered, but must be fit and have a pleasant
personality with a good sense of humour. To apply, please send full details
of yourself plus a recent photograph along with an email address and
telephone number."

Robin decided to keep it short and to the point and having read it through
several times he emailed it to the gay publication he'd chosen to advertise
in. He'd now have to sit back and wait to see what, if any, replies he
received.

Fortunately he'd just caught the next publication date so the advert
appeared the following week. Much to his surprise he received around fifty
replies although he quickly discarded those which were hopelessly
unsuitable because of age or a lack of ability to write the Queen's
English. Robin was well educated and although he was happy to converse with
those less educated, he knew he had to have someone who had a basic ability
to communicate otherwise it somewhat defeated the object. He spent a whole
afternoon going through the applications and sorted them into three piles;
definite no's, those definitely worth considering and maybe's. He'd done
enough recruitment for his legal practice over the years to know how to go
about such an exercise so it wasn't that difficult.

His second pile was made up of six guys, the youngest being twenty five and
the oldest being thirty six. He decided he'd telephone each of them first
so he could assess their ability to communicate and give him some idea of
their personality. The first one he called was soon discarded because he
was very timid and sounded as if he was afraid of his own shadow. Having
let the guy down gently by saying he'd be in contact with him shortly to
say whether or not he was being offered an interview, he called the next
one.

"Allo, whatcha want" the guy answered in a somewhat impatient tone.

Having confirmed the guy's name, Robin replied "I was calling about your
application for a companion but I think you've already told me what I
needed to know thank you".

"Suit yourself mate" the guy replied and slammed the phone down. His
application went straight onto the 'no' pile along with the first
guy's. Robin guessed that someone else had written the application for the
guy since the standard of the written word was in no way the same as the
spoken. He then called number three. This guy sounded a possibility so he
said he'd email to say whether or not he was being invited for an
interview. Robin took an instant dislike to the fourth guy who sounded
arrogant and tried to interview Robin over the phone. He'd come across
applicants like this in business so knew exactly how to deal with him. He
too landed on the 'no' pile. This left two more on Robin's list and he was
feeling slightly despondent.

"Hi, am I speaking to David?"

"Yeah, how can I help you?"

"I'm calling about your application to my advert for a companion"

"Oh, great, thanks for calling me; what would you like to know about me? I
was really excited when I read your advert."

Robin knew instinctively that this was the young man he was looking for
although he didn't let on. David was the youngest on his list at twenty
five and sounded lively, enthusiastic, very pleasant and sexy, if it was
possible to judge such an attribute over the phone. Within a few minutes he
had a mental image of the guy to add to the photograph which had also
turned him on. David said that he wasn't working at present and would be
pleased to explain why if they met so was available to meet Robin whenever
was convenient.

"Are you free tomorrow morning at eleven o'clock?"

"Yes, fantastic, I'd love to, thanks very much."

Having noticed that David lived in Whitechapel, Robin gave him directions
on how to find his apartment.

"Thanks see you at eleven tomorrow morning" David replied excitedly.

"Look forward to it" Robin replied, equally excited at the thought of
meeting this young man. When he put the phone down, he realised he had an
erection inside his jeans. "Down boy" he laughed. It was the first time
he'd felt elated since that dreaded day and certainly the first time his
cock had shown any reaction so perhaps things were on the up, in more ways
than one!

The final guy sounded reasonable. He was twenty six but lacked David's
charisma. Even so, Robin decided to see him and arranged for him to come
round the following afternoon at three since he too wasn't in employment at
present.

Robin went to bed that night feeling positively cheerful. He and Gerald had
always looked for the positives in life and whenever they'd experienced
setbacks had always said 'think positive and move forward' which was what
Robin intended doing. "It's what you'd have wanted my love" he said out
loud as if the guy he'd loved for all those years was sitting there.


The following morning Robin had slight pangs of nerves shoot through him as
he thought about how he was going to structure the meeting with David. It
was unusual for him to be nervous since he'd had a lifetime of dealing with
other people's problems both in and out of Court but this was different. In
some respect it seemed he was trying to find a replacement for the man he'd
loved for thirty years, which of course was impossible even had he wanted
to. "It's only for six weeks my love, just to give me company" he said out
loud.

He decided to seat himself and David across the corner of the dining table
which was situated in the window at one end of the large sitting room. He
made a pot of coffee, set out two cups with a plate of biscuits and sat
back to wait for David to arrive. Two minutes to eleven the door intercom
sounded.

"Hi, it's David" a cheerful voice said so Robin released the door catch and
told him to take the lift to the top floor where his penthouse was
situated. Within a few minutes the lift door opened and Robin's heart
missed a beat. David reminded him of how Gerald had looked when he first
met him all those years ago. He was slim, had the most perfect body and
black hair with matching perfectly groomed eyebrows. He was also about
Gerald's height which was four inches shorter than Robin's six foot. For a
moment Robin just stared at the beautiful young man standing there. He
really was truly gorgeous.

"Hi, this is a beautiful place" David commented as he walked towards the
front door. Robin sprang out of his trance and offered his hand which David
shook warmly.

"Hi, thanks for coming"

"Thanks for inviting me" David grinned which sent another shock wave
straight to his cock.

"Come on in"

"Wow, this is beautiful; I love the modern decor"

Robin smiled. He could sense that the young man meant what he was
saying. When Robin led him into the large living room, David once again
exclaimed and immediately went to the large plate glass window which
overlooked the river.

"Wow, what a fantastic view; I love the river" David enthused again before
sitting down in the chair which Robin had indicated.

"So, why don't we start with you telling me about yourself" Robin
said. David smiled, settled back and started talking. He explained that
he'd been an only child and at the age of thirteen his mother had died from
cancer. He'd loved his mother so it was a big shock to suddenly find he'd
lost her. His father worked for the local council in Stevenage and had to
keep working so David spent hours looking after himself. He'd recognised
that he was gay soon after his mother had died and had few friends at
school. His plan was that once he'd finished his 'A' levels he'd go to
university but at age nineteen he came out to his father and his whole life
changed. He'd not realised that his father was homophobic and as soon as
heard the news he told David that either he changed his lifestyle or got
out. There followed a massive row in which David told his father that being
gay was not something you chose to be and that he'd been born that way but
his father didn't want to know. David therefore moved to London and as he
had to earn money to support himself he gave up his education. Since then
he'd done numerous jobs ranging from those in which he used practical
skills to those where he had to use his mental skills.

"I've not spoken to my dad since but at least I can now put my hand to
anything although trying to find a permanent job that pays decent money is
not easy."

For the past two years he'd worked for a charity that provided services for
older gay men. He much preferred interacting with older guys than younger
ones. "To be honest I find gay guys my own age just want to go to clubs or
parties and get drunk or high on drugs; that's not my idea of fun. I find
older guys more interesting and I enjoy their company; hence why I was
particularly interested in your advert."

"So what happened to the job with the charity you mentioned?"

"Like all charity jobs it was on a fixed term contract and when it came up
for renewal a few weeks ago they couldn't renew the contract because of
cuts in Government funding. I still volunteer for them, but that doesn't
pay the rent or buy the food. I do odd bits of work helping people sort out
their IT problems but that doesn't bring in enough money to keep me going."

"Have you ever been to America?"

"No, never but its somewhere I've always wanted to go; I've only been to
Europe a couple of times."

Robin asked if he could drive a car and David said he could although he
didn't own a car since he couldn't afford to run one. He showed Robin his
driving licence which was clean and a valid passport.

"I imagine you'll want to take up some references so I've brought you a
list of names you can contact." Robin took it and glanced down the list of
six names and contact numbers. He noted past employers and a couple of
private referees.

"Who's this one?" Robin asked indicating a woman's name. David grinned and
said that was his aunt on his mother's side.

"She's lovely and doesn't have any issues with me being gay" he chuckled.

Just then Robin's mobile rang. He glanced at the number and recognised it
as being the guy who was due to come for interview that afternoon.

"Excuse me for a moment, I need to answer this" Robin explained as he moved
to the other end of the room.

"I can't really come this afternoon" the guy explained.

"When could you come?"

"Not sure really; are you visiting New York?"

"Yes"

"I take it I'll be allowed to do my own thing whilst there only I've got
friends in New York and I'd want to see them whilst there."

"So you're looking for free travel to see your friends" Robin replied
somewhat put out by the guy's comment. The guy didn't answer realising what
he was in effect saying. "Let's forget it shall we" Robin added.

"Does that mean you don't want to see me?"

"Yes, you've made it clear why you've applied so thanks for your time,
goodbye." Robin hung up and returned to David who was sitting quietly at
the table looking out of the window.

"This really is a fantastic view from here" he said as if he'd not listened
in to the conversation.

"Tell me, what is your notion of being a companion?"

"To provide company, help and support where necessary, general
companionship and do things together; is that not what you're looking for?"

"One hundred percent" Robin smiled and patted David's hand which was
resting on the table. There was no doubt in his mind that the guy was
perfect and there was no point in looking further. He then detailed the
proposed trip which was to involve flying to New York, staying for two
weeks and then flying to Palm Springs to stay for two more weeks. They'd
hire a car in Palm Springs to get them around and use it to drive to Los
Angeles where they'd stay for another two weeks before flying back to
London.

"Quite a trip" David grinned, "sounds brilliant".

"So, what do you think, are you interested in being my companion for the
six week duration?"

"Wow, yes please; do you not have other guys to see?"

Robin smiled and said he had shortlisted two others but one had just talked
himself out of the job and the third was not a strong candidate. David
jumped up and shook Robin's hand. It was a pleasure to see the young guy so
delighted. Robin stood up and within seconds David was giving Robin a big
hug which he certainly didn't object receiving. The guy was just delightful
and he looked forward to spending six weeks with him. Seeing it was now
lunchtime, Robin invited David to have a bite to eat with him. "I normally
just have a sandwich at lunchtime but you're welcome to join me."

"I'd love to" David replied excitedly. He still couldn't believe he'd been
offered the position. He really liked Robin and looked forward to spending
time with him. "How about I make them for you; I'm quite proficient in the
kitchen department if you show me where things are." Robin was impressed so
decided to accept the offer. Having shown him the kitchen which was just
off the dining end, Robin decided to go to his study and call some of the
referees. Once at his desk he switched on his computer to look at the CCTV
screen. Several years before he and Gerald had installed a security system
which protected the exterior doors and windows but they'd also had
installed several miniature cameras in the hall and living room areas. The
idea being that at night if anybody did manage to get in they'd set off the
sensors, which would alert them in their bedroom.

As he dialled the first number he enjoyed watching David working away in
the kitchen. He'd decided to call the charity where David had been working
and was still volunteering. Fortunately the guy he needed to speak to was
in and as soon as Robin explained who he was and why he was calling the guy
gave David a glowing reference. "He's a lovely guy; extremely hard working,
very willing and pro-active. To be honest we were devastated that we
couldn't continue his contract due to Government funding cuts but as soon
as we can we hope to employ him again. In the meantime he volunteers for us
on a weekly basis."

The next referee gave a similar reference and neither had known that David
had applied for the companion post so he decided they were genuine
references. He glanced at the screen and noticed that David was quietly
sitting at the table again having laid it in readiness for lunch. He
decided to make the third call which was to David's aunt. "He's a great
guy; such a pity that his father is a homophobe; the guy is a complete
idiot but yes, I can certainly vouch for his honesty and general
demeanour. He's never been a problem nor caused any concern to his parents,
which makes his father's idiotic views all the more stupid." Robin smiled
and thanked her.

"That looks good" Robin commented once he'd returned to the living room
where David was sitting.

"I wasn't sure where you wanted to eat but decided at the table was the
easiest."

"Perfect; would you like a glass of wine to go with those delicious looking
sandwiches?"

"I don't normally drink at lunchtime but if you're having one I'll join
you." Robin nodded and went to get a bottle of white wine from the wine
cooler in the kitchen. Having opened it and poured two generous glasses he
sat down opposite David.

"These look fantastic; far grander than I usually make; to be honest Gerald
was the chef since he loved cooking so I just did the clearing up."

"I like cooking too so generally cook myself a meal each night; not that
keen on readymade meals although at times I succumb."

The more Robin learnt about David, the more he liked him. He also affected
his body in other ways which he tried to ignore.

"Well, the three references I've obtained for you are glowing, in fact if I
didn't know better I'd think you were an angel" Robin laughed.

"I'm certainly not an angel; unless they have gay ones" David chuckled.

"Anyhow, you are now my official companion for the duration so we just need
to sort out some administrative things such as an e-Visa to get you into
the States which we can do online; I'll also draw up a written agreement."

As they ate, they chatted about various topical matters and David explained
that he wasn't into sport but enjoyed music, cinema and theatre. The more
he talked the more Robin realised how similar David was to Gerald. It was
uncanny.

"Are you doing anything this evening?" Robin asked. David said he wasn't
since his social life was on hold for the moment in view of his financial
situation so Robin invited him over for a meal. "It would be good to get to
know each other some more since we've only got three weeks before we go
away and we can talk more about the trip itself."

"Yeah, thanks, I'd love to if you're sure; perhaps I could cook for you
since I love cooking and to do so in that dream kitchen would be the
highlight of my year."

Robin chuckled. He was more than happy for someone else to cook so it was
agreed that David would make a chicken curry which was one of his favourite
dishes and he'd purchase the ingredients he needed from the Whitechapel
market when he got home. Robin said he'd collect him in the car to save
having to lug the shopping back to his apartment. Besides, he was keen to
see where David lived. He'd found before that the way someone keeps their
home says a lot about them although he had no doubt that David's would be
immaculate if he'd assessed him correctly.


2.

Robin arrived at David's flat at just on four thirty as agreed. He parked
his Mercedes E class in the allocated space that David had mentioned
immediately in front of the house which had been converted into two flats
at some point in its history. David lived in the top flat and within a
minute of Robin pressing the bell, the front door opened onto the stairs
that led up to the upper flat. As Robin walked in he quickly noted how neat
and tidy the place was and he doubted that it had been done especially for
his visit since everything seemed to have its place.

"It's a bit smaller than yours" David chuckled "but I manage". It was
indeed small with a living room, separate kitchen, bathroom and
bedroom. David collected the shopping and they made their way back
downstairs. "Wow, I love the Mercedes E class, it's a beautiful car" he
exclaimed as he climbed in having dumped the shopping in the boot. Robin
also loved his car which he'd changed just a few months before. Gerald much
preferred the Mini Cooper they'd bought two years previous since he found
that far more suitable for city traffic but Robin kept to his. Quite what
he'd do with the Mini now was another question but for the moment he wanted
to keep it just to remind him of the love of his life.

"You're looking very smart" Robin commented having admired the tight
designer jeans that David was wearing along with a designer T shirt that
hugged his body perfectly.

"Thanks; I like nice clothes so I buy a few good ones rather than lots of
crap; it's one of my few excesses."

"A good philosophy" Robin replied as he started the engine and reversed out
into the road. David relaxed into his seat and enjoyed the ride.

"You must miss Gerald terribly; I can't imagine losing someone after being
together for such a long time. I think you're very brave taking on a
complete stranger on this trip. I just hope I match up to your
expectations."

Robin chuckled. "I'm sure you will but I hope you'll not be bored being
with an old queen like me".

"You're not that old, besides as I've said, I much prefer the company of
mature guys; they have so much more experience and are far more interesting
to talk to." David then paused wondering whether to continue with his
thoughts. "And I'm not just talking about life experiences; to be honest
they're generally better in bed."

"Is that so" Robin laughed, "and have you had sex with many guys of my
age?"

"One or two" David chuckled and glanced at Robin. He really fancied him and
couldn't believe there was a thirty five year gap between them.

Having parked the car in the secure underground car park, they grabbed the
shopping and took the lift to the top floor. David again admired the
apartment as he walked through to the kitchen and placed the shopping on
the central worktop. "Here's your change and the receipt".

Robin told him to keep it but was pleased that David had offered it. He
then suggested they applied for David's e-visa so led him into the
study. David noticed the state of the art Apple equipment on the desk as he
sat down beside Robin. He was clearly well heeled and David knew he was
going to enjoy his time with Robin.

When they'd completed the application and printed off the document Robin
turned to face David. "There's something else we need to discuss; since
this trip was booked before Gerald died all the rooms will have a double
bed. Would you like me to change that to two singles?"

David grinned. "Not on my account so it's your choice".

"Well, I certainly won't object to having a gorgeous twenty five-year old
in my bed" Robin chuckled.

"Fine, but be aware that I always sleep in the buff"

"So do I" Robin grinned and felt his cock twitch with excitement. David's
had done the same and hoped the role of companionship included sex.


They moved back into the kitchen and David started preparing the
curry. Robin asked David if he could help but just like Gerald, he said he
preferred to do things himself but was happy for Robin to sit and
watch. Robin sat on one of the kitchen stools and watched the young man
work his magic on the ingredients. He was a tidy worker and everything was
neatly laid out on the bench. Once he'd finished with utensils they were
neatly stacked by the sink. Every so often, Robin either washed them up or
placed them in the dishwasher.

David was very precise but clearly knew what he was doing. Once everything
had been prepared, he announced that the curry needed to simmer for about
forty five minutes.

"How about we open a bottle of wine and I'll show you details of where
we're staying"

David nodded enthusiastically and watched Robin pull out a bottle of
chardonnay from the wine cooler and open it. Having poured two glasses he
passed one to David and their fingers touched. Each had a shock of
excitement shoot through their bodies and for a moment Robin felt guilty
about feeling like this having just lost the man of his dreams but he knew
in his heart that Gerald would say "go on boy, have fun". During their time
together they'd had the occasional threesome and he knew that Gerald had
played away on occasions but it was nothing serious and was in no way a
threat to their relationship which had been as solid as a rock.

Robin led David into the living room and they sat down on the sofa. He
pulled out the folder containing the holiday information and showed David
each of the hotels they'd be staying at. Each one was a gay hotel and the
one in New York was in Chelsea. David chuckled when he saw they'd be
staying in a Queen sized room with a queen size bed. The hotel was
advertised as being a boutique hotel so he guessed it was expensive. The
one in Palm Springs was another up market gay hotel which was clothes
optional. David rather liked the idea of that and noted that the room
booked was a master suite with every imaginable facility. There was a pool,
a spa and a steam room plus an indoor play room.

"Wow, this place looks like fun" he giggled as he read the blurb.

The hotel in Los Angeles was also very up market and again the room Robin
had booked was their most expensive. He began to wonder the extent of
Robin's wealth; in fact he was a multi millionaire.

"This all looks brilliant" David exclaimed, "I'm really excited; thanks so
much for choosing me."

Robin was touched by David's excitement and involuntarily patted his
leg. The gesture sent another wave of excitement through David's body and
caused him to form an erection inside his tight jeans. He couldn't wait to
really get to know this lovely generous guy.


When the meal was ready David dished it up. They'd almost finished the
bottle of wine so Robin opened another. They sat at the table enjoying the
food and continued chatting about everything under the sun. David detailed
the voluntarily job he did and Robin talked about his work as a
lawyer. They discussed leisure pursuits and the kind of music, theatre and
films they enjoyed. It was uncanny how similar their tastes were which
pleased Robin no end.

The curry was beautiful and David felt chuffed at being
congratulated. Robin had bought a lemon tart for desert which was equally
as nice. Eventually it was time to clear away the dishes so this time it
was David's turn to watch Robin. He noticed how adept Robin was when
filling the dishwasher, which was something he'd never owned. Everything
was soon cleared away and they returned to the living area with a pot of
coffee. Robin offered David a brandy to go with it and he accepted despite
already feeling light headed from the two bottles of wine they'd
consumed. They sat beside each other on the sofa again and Robin showed him
on his iPad places of interest in each of the areas they were going to be
staying. It soon became apparent that David also liked going to art
galleries, exhibitions of modern design and many of the things that Robin
and Gerald had liked doing when on holiday. The more he got to know David,
the more he realised he'd made the right choice, and that was not only
because he was a gorgeous young man. He was intelligent and had a mind of
his own, which Robin liked. What he didn't want was someone who just
followed him around like a puppy.

"I can't wait to get out there and do some of these things" David said
excitedly.

"And me" Robin added.

"It's going to be difficult for you isn't it knowing that it should have
been Gerald."

Robin thought for a moment. Yes it was going to be difficult knowing that
it should have been Gerald beside him but he knew he couldn't sit at home
moping about his loss and Gerald would certainly not want him to do that,
and for that matter neither would he do so if it was the other way
round. "Yes, in some respects but as I've said, Gerald and I always
believed that"

"Life has to move forward" David said for him.

Robin smiled. "Yep, it does and I think you're the right person to do that
with as long as you won't feel uncomfortable knowing he's going to be in my
mind as we go around."

"Of course not; I'd be somewhat surprised if he wasn't. I just wish I'd had
the privilege of knowing him; he sounds as if he was a lovely guy."

"He was and he'd have loved to have known you" Robin replied as he patted
David's leg, "But I promise I won't let his presence spoil our holiday
together and I'm certainly not the type to go all morbid and burst into
tears; I've done my mourning and want to move on."

David turned to face Robin and smiled. "I'm not sure I could be as strong
as you in similar circumstances; you're a very special guy."

"Thank you that is sweet of you to say so" Robin replied and moved forward
to give David a light kiss on the lips. His body told him he wanted to do
more but yet again he restrained himself and so did David.


"Wow, it's gone eleven; I suppose I should get home" David said some while
later when they'd finished looking at places of interest in and around Los
Angeles. Robin sensed that it was said with a slight sadness as if he
didn't want to go home.

"You're welcome to stay over if you'd like to; I've got a spare room."

David didn't hesitate and said he'd love to but then realised he'd perhaps
been a bit too eager. "Are you sure?"

"Of course; I never offer things unless I mean them"

"In that case I'd like to accept" David grinned. It went through both their
heads that ideally they'd have liked to sleep together but Robin still had
a slight feeling of guilt and David didn't want to push things too far;
after all they'd only just met.

Robin showed David the guest room which was always made up ready for
use. "You've got your own en-suite and you'll find a new toothbrush you can
use and towels and stuff so help yourself.

"Thank you" David replied as he admired the perfectly furnished bedroom
with its double bed. "And thank you once again for selecting me and for
letting me stay."

"You're more than welcome and thank you for cooking a beautiful meal"

"We make a good team don't we"

Robin smiled. He was dying to take the young man into his arms and kiss him
passionately. In fact he really wanted to do more than that but he
controlled himself. David sensed Robin's feelings and moved forward. "Can I
give you a goodnight kiss?" he grinned.

"I don't see why not" Robin chuckled so they moved their lips together and
kissed lightly on the lips.
