On the Saturday, Luke and Josh went out to do some shopping for their small

Seeing Tristan remove his, the other two did the same before they finally
settled down for the party to begin.


As they drank, they talked about music, clubs, and a host of other
topics. Josh was asked to show off his new piano so he played a medley of
pop music and classical items. Everyone was amazed at how easily Josh moved
from one to another. Luke in particular was proud of his mate and made a
mental note to encourage him to take up music more. His talent was being

They were soon driving down a farm track that led to the main farm. Off to

he'd seen the inside and could see why Luke loved it so.

They had no sooner emerged from the car and collected their bags when Hugh
appeared at the front door. As Luke had said, Hugh was a stunning guy
albeit ten years older than both of them.

"Hi guys" he called out as they walked up the narrow path towards him, "so
this is Josh then" he added extending a hand towards Josh. "It's lovely to
meet you at last, I've heard so much about you from this young man".

He then took Josh into his arms and hugged him before kissing him on the
cheeks, "Welcome to my humble abode" he then giggled before turning to
Luke. "So how is my gorgeous cousin?" he said taking Luke into his arms and

"Okay guys, come on in and let's have a drink to celebrate you reaching the
grand old age of eighteen".

They followed Hugh into a small hall off which led a living room that
stretched across the back of the house and a kitchen to one side of the
hall. Off the hall was a staircase which he later found went up to a small
landing off which there were two bedrooms and a large bathroom that

shower. Luke explained later that it had originally been a third bedroom
when the bathroom was out the back but had been converted a long, long time
ago.

Generally the cottage was in good repair and the kitchen and the bathroom
had been modernised in the not so distant past.

Hugh led them into the living room which was very cosy and had French
windows that led out onto a small patio before leading into a good sized
garden. It was surrounded by a hedge and trees that made it secluded. As
Josh looked out he remembered Luke saying that he and Hugh had spent many a

Luke went through what they had done including the dinner with his mum, the

"I hope you've brought that with you" Hugh then said, "the clarinet that
is, not the piano!"

Luke laughed and explained that in fact they could have brought the piano
as well since it was a portable electronic one.

"Oh, you should have done" Hugh replied, "I love the piano".

I have brought a CD which I recorded whilst playing since I use it to
accompany me on the clarinet.

"Wow, didn't realise we had a virtuoso with us Luke, I definitely want to
hear you play if you are willing Josh."

Josh said he would be happy to do so and he needed to practice each day in
any event.

"So, what's it like living together as a couple then?" Hugh then asked
suddenly before saying that he was sorry to hear about Josh's father
kicking him out.

"He did me a favour really" Josh replied grinning.

laughed.

and then at Hugh.


They continued talking for a while longer before Hugh said that lunch would
be ready soon so they should take their things up to their room and change

Fortunately the weather was plenty warm enough for them to just wear shorts

"You guys okay to eat outside?" Hugh asked as they got downstairs.

Luke questioned Hugh what he meant by that and Hugh explained that he often
found discrepancies between the figures he downloaded from the computer
system and the ones that the manager provided each month. Luke then
explained to Josh that about three years ago, he had helped Hugh install a
computer system on a network so that Hugh could keep a closer eye on what

"Has Mr Roberts twigged yet that you have access to the system he uses?"
Luke asked smiling.

"Don't think so; I should challenge him on the figures really but I'm not
that knowledgeable with figures as you well know but one of these days I
must do so."


When they'd eaten their lunch, which was a salad with cold meats, Hugh told
them both to enjoy the sunshine whilst they could and he would join them
later.

"I just need to go into the village to get one or two things so make

Once Hugh had gone and Luke had found a large rug on which they could

"Perhaps we could go next Easter" Josh suggested.

"Yeah, good idea, we will probably need a break from studies by then".


Over the next few weeks, Josh had six hours of driving tuition each week
and several hours driving practice with Luke whenever they could. He was a
quick learner and his instructor was very pleased with his progress. He had
booked his theory test and passed it with flying colours.

His instructor reckoned he was now ready to do the practical test so a date
was fixed. Josh was feeling somewhat nervous but both Luke and Ann, who had
also taken him out on practice runs, said he would be fine.

The day arrived and the test took place.

"I've passed" Josh said grinning from ear to ear as he exited the
examination office to meet Luke who had gone to meet him.

"Brilliant, congratulations" Luke exclaimed as he took Josh into his arms
and hugged him before giving him a big kiss.

A young couple were standing nearby and grinned at seeing the two guys

to notice or care what people thought.

"When we get home you must ring your mum and arrange for us to go down to
collect your new car" Luke said excitedly as Josh drove them both home.
