Chapter 10

Today was going to be a very special day for me. After so long of a time, I was
going back to work and to a job that I would enjoy. When I think back on what
could have been, I almost die. I could be sitting in prison along with my dad if
I hadn't lost my nerve. I am so thankful that I choose Tony as my victim. He is
one of a kind and today he is more than just a special friend. We spent the
night in the tent and it was just the two of us. We took our relationship to the
highest level. WE BECAME LOVERS! So we both are walking around on a cloud this
morning. I know that we have turned the corner and our lives will never be the
same. OH! Happy Day!!

The special agent brought Mom, Jerry, and Lucy with him to pick me up. I told
him that I would drive in and he could bring Mom back out after the meeting if
she wanted to come. Jerry, Lucy and I would just stay in town since we had to
work.

"Dave, I would like to ride into town with you. I need to do a little shopping,
Mrs. DeWeese would you like to spend the day-just us girls. Since I will be the
only one out here I have a lot of things to do in town. I want to see for myself
what kind of mess you left the house in. I have a feeling that you are just like
Tony. If you put your dirty underwear in the laundry, then you consider the
house cleaned." Laughed Martha.

"Do not, Martha! I don't wear underwear. I always go condo. I just put a clean
pair in just to fool you." Now it was Tony's turn to laugh.
"Young man, If I catch you going without underwear, I will tan you hide but
good."

"Martha, you had better tan his hide now. I saw him get dressed this morning and
he sure didn't put any on." teased Dave.
"Martha, you will have to blister Dave's butt twice. One for not wearing
underwear and the other for being a tattle-tale." By now the whole house was
roaring with laughter.

"Mrs. DeWeese, see what we are going to have to put up with. We have two little
boys to raise. However, I love them both and wouldn't trade them for a dozen
prim and proper boys."

"You have that right, Martha. Agent Tom just informed me that I can drop the
Mrs. DeWeese and go back to being Mrs. Jackson but just call me Doris."

Tony, Dave and Jerry all shouted a big HIP, HIP HURRAY!
We started piling into vehicles for the trip into the big city. Molly wanted go,
so I let her jump in with Martha and me. Tony decided to leave the big SUV at
the cabin and ride in with me. "Dave, I think that we will have to go car
shopping today. Jerry needs some wheels and would you look at this old bucket of
bolts. You need a new car also."

"I happen to like this old blue bomb. So I will say Thank you and keep what I
have. This car has a lot of class. Right Martha?"
"Hey, don't get me involved in this little dispute. However, I agree with Dave.
I like this old blue Ford. Reminds me of my younger days."

"Martha, I know you are not as old as this car. It has to be one of the first to
hit the market." Hooted Tony.

We were laughing and joking with each other the rest of the way into town. This
was exactly what we needed after the intense and stressful day that we all had
yesterday.

Tony was getting ready to go into work and was about to leave. "Tony would you
have time to stop by the restaurant and pick up our uniforms for tonight." asked
Dave.

"Sure thing. What sizes do you need.?"

Martha ushered all of us into the den. "I will start a pot of coffee. Any one
for tea? I will see what I can find for snacks."

"Martha, I made some cake doughnuts yesterday and put them in the big freezer.
All you need to do is zap them in the microwave." Said Dave. " I know there are
some more goodies in there. I saw them when I put the doughnuts in."

The special agent took our statements on video tape. We had to sign a statement
that we did make the tapes and was under no force. We made the tapes voluntary.
He outlined what would be happening to the three men, my dad and a couple of
others that were involved. He told me that I would not be facing any charges
since I acted in self-defense. That was good news because I was a little
worried.

"I don't think any of you will be in any danger now. All is quite for the time
being. Just don't go back home or make any calls for a short period of time. We
will let you know when it will be Ok. Do any of you have any questions?"

"Will we have to appear in court?" Mom asked.

"I don't think so. Your sworn statements should be enough. I will have them
typed up and then we can have them notarized and signed under oath. That should
be sufficient. However, that will depend on the defense attorney and the judge.
We will try to get everyone to plead guilty. If they do, we can avoid going to
court and having a jury trial. If by some chance, all of you have to go to court
and testify then you will all have to go back in the witness protection plan."

Mom began to cry. Lucy took her in her arms and held her. The Agent said "Mrs.
Jackson the worst is over. You can look forward to living a normal life once
again."

"I know. We have had to live with this for so long, I don't think that I can
handle not having it held over our heads. Sobbed Mom.

"Mrs. Jackson, We have some very good counselors in the department. I think it
would be a good idea to get some help dealing with all of this. This is
something that should be done immediately. Do you want me to make some
appointments for all of you. At first, you should have individual sessions.
Later on you may get group therapy. "

"Yes, please do. I agree that we all need something to help is cope." Dave
stated. The other three were just nodding their heads `yes'.
"I am going to give each of you one of my cards. If anything out of the ordinary
happens and I do mean anything. I want you to call day or night. If you notice
someone following you, phone calls from strangers, hate mail, someone coming to
you door and etc. Call immediately. If you wait, it may be to late. If I am
scaring you, then good. All I can say is Don't let your guard down and always be
alert to what is happening around you! If need be don't hesitate to call the
local police, Go to the station if possible. Call the police and then me. I bet
that Martha has the goodies ready for us. Shall we go see. That smell is about
to drive me crazy."

The restaurant called and told me that the list of guest had grown to 25 people
and that I would probably need more help in the kitchen. "Sam, can you hold for
a minute. I have two people, here that may be able to help."

"Sure thing!" I put the phone on hold and told Mom and Martha that I needed some
extra help tonight.

"Dave, of course we will be glad to help. After all what are mothers for."
reacted Mom. Martha was nodding her head yes.

"Sam, it is all settled. I have two women here who have spent their entire lives
in the kitchen, My mother and a friend. Good, we will see you tonight. Bye."
said Dave hanging up the phone.

"You will not believe this place. It is luxury first class. The restaurant has
already given the clients for tonight a menu with only three items to choose
from so the restaurant can make needed purchases. The menus don't have prices
listed on them. It is a place that people like us have only seen in our dreams.
I think we are all in for a treat tonight."

"Dave, how did you land a job in a place like this?" Asked Mom.

"I have Tony to thank. He was responsible for setting up an interview. I had to
cook a meal for the owner and several of his friends. They were impressed and
offered me a job which I immediately accepted."

"Doris, are you as excited as I am. I have only seen the place from the outside.
It looks like a King's Palace. In fact that is what it is called."
"Martha, I get all tingly just thinking about working at the Palace. I just may
sign on a permanent help, but I will just wait to see how things go tonight."

"I may join you. Between the two of us, we should be able to keep Dave in his
place and teach him how to really cook." Laughed Martha
Tony dropped the uniforms by the house and did he ever get an ear full. He even
had uniforms for Mom and Martha. Doris and Martha were both telling him about
their job for the night. "Hey, one at a time! My brain has gone into over-load."
Tony doubled up laughing. "When I stopped by to pick up the uniforms, Sam told
me that the party had doubled in size and that Dave had acquired additional help
ie his mother and a friend." Guess what, I added my name plus Jeff and Ellen's
to the list. There are now 28 people signed up."

"In fact, I called Jeff and Ellen. They should be arriving at any time. Oh, by
the way, Sam would like for you to come earlier, because of the additional work
that will be involved." All this did was wind up Doris and Martha again.


Dave, Jerry and Lucy were sitting back enjoying the situation. It was about time
something good happened to all of them, Dave's mother especially.
