Chapter 9

The week-end was over. Tony and his group started toward home. Dave cooked
a big meal and was just waiting for the group to arrive. There was a knock
on the door. Dave went to answer. Two men were standing there and they
flashed FBI badges.

"We would like to talk to Mrs. DeWeese and her son. It is rather urgent." Dave
started to say that there was no Mrs. DeWeese at this residence, when his Mom
came rushing to his side.

"Dave, it is ok. Come in guys and shut the door. This must really important."

"Mrs. DeWeese, you must get ready to leave immediately. There are 3 men not to
far behind us that are out to do harm. Your husband has organized a big movement
to find the three of you. They have orders to kill everyone in the house. That
goes for this young man here, also anyone else who might be here."

"Are you sure?" asked Mrs. DeWeese.

"We are positive. I intercepted an e-mail sent from prison by you husband. It
seems as if we have a leak somewhere in our system and until we find who it is.
You will be taken to a new place which will be known only to the two of us. We
will be by your side until we catch the culprits! You have 5 minutes to pack."

"Oh, Dave, I am so sorry. We will schedule another get-together. Love you, son.
Say a prayer or two for us." With that she rushed from the room to pack her
bags. Jerry and Lucy were already packing their.

"You will be ok here by yourself, There is a swat team of officers on the way.
Just don't take any chances and above all, do not give out any information of
any kind. We will contact you later. All we need is a phone number. Is there
room in the garage for two big vehicles?"
"Yes, Sir. I have to call friends who were on their way here for dinner."

"Just open the garage door and make you call. Wait for you uninvited guest to
arrive." Everyone was gone in the space of about 3 minutes.
"Martha, This is Dave. Put the phone on speaker and hurry please. There is no
time to waste."

"Dave, what is going on. You have scared me out of my wits. It is on speaker
now."

"Tony, you have to trust me and follow my instructions exactly. Just let me do
the talking. My dad has organized a hit team from prison. They have orders kill
my mother and friend and anyone else in the house. The FBI have taken Mom , my
friend and his wife. They have put them in hiding. You must turn around
immediately and go back to the cabin. Under no circumstances are you to come
home or even call. Do not give out any information to anyone. I will be up
later, when all of this settled. Martha, you had just better learn to relax. I
have a FBI swat team on the way. So I am in no danger at the moment. That is all
subject to change. If you don't see me tonight, the FBI will be contacting you.
Love all of you and Martha take Ellen's hand and start saying a prayer. I think
I will need all the help I can get. Bye, Love you all!"

I saw a car pull into the garage. I knew right away that it did not belong to
the swat team. It just didn't fit the description. I went into my bedroom and
got my pistol. I made sure that it was loaded and went into the kitchen and hid
behind the breakfast bar. I had a clear view of the door leading to the garage.

I did not have to wait long. The door slowly opened. I waited until all three
men were inside. "Alright, hit the floor on your bellies! Hands above your head
at arms length! Do it now or you will get a bullet through you heart!. Don't
even think that I won't shoot because I will and I know how to use this gun! I
said NOW!"

Two guys immediately fell to the floor and were following my instructions. The
third guy took a step toward me holding a gun. I fired and hit him in the leg.
Hit the floor or the next slug will be in your heart!" I must have made a
believer out of him because the next thing I knew he was on the floor with his
companions, screaming in pain. "Don't even move a muscle unless you want more of
the same. We will just wait until the FBI arrive and then they can take over."

"You won't have a wait because we are here now." said one of the men showing his
badge. "We can take over now. I must say that was mighty fine job that you just
did. Have you had police or military training."

"No, not a bit. I learned everything from my father."

Soon all three men were in handcuffs and the paramedics were working on the
wounded man's leg and were trying to stop the bleeding. I had just given him a
flesh wound and had missed the bone completely. They were successful and finally
had stopped the bleeding. Now all I had to do was clean up the mess in the
kitchen.

The FBI agent in charge wanted to talk with me about the whole situation. My dad
had been put in solitaire confinement. He was to have no contact with the
outside world, no internet, phone or visitors. The agent thought that this would
go on for a long period of time. He wanted a statement from me and said that he
would come to the house tomorrow morning around ten.

Dad did have television and would be seeing all of this on the TV. He would be
having fits when he did see it. We should be able to hear him yelling all the
way from the prison. Serves him right. Now Mom and I are getting even with him.

The first thing I had to do was call Tony. "Hi, Tony. Do you have the speakers
on? Good! I hope that Martha and Ellen are listening. I am sure that they are
dying of curiosity. Things here have been anything but dull. I told them what
had transpired. Relax Martha, I don't have even one little scratch. There is a
man with a bullet in his leg. Yes, I shot him and will tell you all about it
when I get there! Don't worry about the blood because I have already cleaned the
floor. Three men where on their way to kill my mother and friend when I called
before and had you go back. I didn't want you here and risk the chance of the
three of you getting hurt or worse. The FBI were able to get Mom and my friend
out of the house. I will be on my way and will see you shortly. Martha, don't
fix anything for dinner. I have a complete dinner cooked and will bring it with
me. Later, I love all of you. Tony, don't drink all the rum save me enough for a
rum and coke. I will need it after all the excitement I've had today. Bye, Love
you all!"

The drive to the lake gave me time to think and screw my head back on correctly,
I arrived at the cabin. I sensed that something was wrong. No one came out to
meet me. I shut the car off and went running into the cabin. I was afraid of
what I might find.

When I open my eyes. I discovered that I had fainted and had fallen to the
floor. A strange man was putting smelling salts under my nose. I got the
surprise of my life. There sat Mom, Jerry and Lucy. Martha, Ellen and Tony were
standing behind them. There were two other men in the room beside the one with
the smelling salts. He help me to my feet and I was mobbed by all six of my
loved ones. The agents had already told my family everything. They were getting
a blow by blow account of what had happened.

"Someone had better clue me in to what is happening. I don't know how much more
I can take!" Dave exclaimed.
The Agent took control and told me that they had performed a complete background
check on everyone except Ellen and they didn't know that she was here. They knew
about the cabin. They had been trailing the would be killers and when they were
getting close, Mom, Jerry, and Lucy were taken from the house and were brought
to the cabin. They were here when Tony drove up. They wanted to make sure that I
didn't know where Mom had been taken. That way I could not let any thing slip
and say the wrong thing.

They knew that I was in no danger because the swat team was already in place.
What they didn't count on was me taking matters in my own hands and putting the
would-be-killers out of commission.

The FBI were going to relocate Mom here at the lake just as soon as the trader
was captured. The man that I shot named the trader and he has been arrested. So
now Mom should be safe.

Tony had called Mary and found she had another cabin not very far from Tony's.
However, the price was a more than he paid for his. The FBI said they would pay
for it, which will save them a lot of money in the long run. Mom said that she
was putting her house on the market and when it sold, she could reimburse some
or all of the money. So Tony just bought another one and now owns two cabins on
Loon Lake. All that is left is signing the final papers and completing the
transaction.

"I think that I will go in and heat the dinner and we can all eat. Tony, I think
you had better make a trip to the store and get some paper plates and plastic
eating utensils."

"Won't have to. Jeff and Mary just drove up. I called and had them bring some
out, along with things from the deli to help extend the dinner you had cooked.
We knew there would be several extra mouths to feed.

After dinner, the entire group sat around talking and sipping a rum and coke.
What started out as a big disaster, turned out to have an enjoyable and happy
ending. Life is very unpredictable and can change in a twinkling of an eye.

In the early evening, Dave's cell rang. "Hello, Dave speaking. You have to be
kidding. What time do you want me. I have a couple of friends who can help me
out. That will be just fine. See you at 5:00. Good-bye."

"That was the restaurant calling they want me to cook a dinner tomorrow night.
Lucy and Ellen are you up to being my helpers and serve as waitresses. You will
receive wages plus tips. We should receive about $300 which we will split 3
ways."

"Count me in." Said Lucy .

"Gee, I am sorry . Jeff and I have already made plans to go to dinner and take
in a movie. Maybe next time." Ellen responded.

"Dave, Could you use a waiter? Heaven only knows that I could sure use the
money." Asked Jerry. "In my younger days, I worked as a waiter until your dad
got me fired."

"Sure can. Hungry people aren't fussy as long as they have food in front of them
and their coffee cups or wine glasses kept filled. I know where you are coming
from on the money angle. My wallet is very thin. If fact is it plain flat."
Exclaimed Dave.
