Simon story part 18
Simon takes a swim

With the funeral behind them, Simon's return to his usual
cheerful self could start. After hearing his father's words at the
grave side, he was determined now to get his life together and live
it to the full starting that evening.
"Robby! Robby!" Simon called. He heard the thud of Robby's
feet as he ran down the stairs. "We're going to Scouts tonight!"
"Are you sure you're ready?" Robert asked.
"We're going!" Simon had made his mind up and nothing was
going to change it. Robert told his mum what they were doing before
he followed Simon upstairs to get changed. They made it to Scouts
just in time for flag break. Everyone was a little surprised
considering what he had been through that day, but there he stood at
the head of his Patrol apparently ready for anything.
While they were changing into activity gear, a couple of the
boys told Simon how sorry they were about his mum and dad. Sure it
upset him, but what surprised them most was when he stood up and
announced to everyone that he was grateful for their words of
condolence, but would now like to get on with the meeting. Everyone
just stared at him in silence. Skip took him to one side and had a
chat with him, which was when skip understood why he had done it.
Simon really put 100% into everything he did that night. If
the truth was known, he was probably pushing himself too hard, but
like most teenagers, he knew best. Robert mentioned it a couple of
times, but all Simon said was OK. The Troop meeting finished and
Simon and Robert walked home with Alex. They chatted all the way
about what they could do when they stopped over.
Alex's dad met them at the door and after greeting them all,
he took Simon to one side for a moment and placed one of his hands on
the top of Simon's head and the other on his neck while he just
looked deep into his eyes. Simon was a little weary of what was going
on at first, but soon realised that Alex's dad knew what he was going
through and in his own way was trying to ease Simon's pain.
"So how do you feel now Si'?" Alex asked.
"Strange. It's as if all of my cares drifted out of me and
left a sorta vacuum that I have to fill with my own life." Simon
replied.
"Wow!" Robert said excitedly. "How did he do it?"
"That's what we call an oriental mystery." Alex replied. All
four of them, Simon, Robert, Alex and Alex's dad spent the next 10
minutes or so making the arrangements for the following Friday when
Robert and Simon would be stopping over.
With the arrangements made, Simon and Robert headed for home.
There was just one possible problem that worried them both: Michael.
When they got home, Robert's mum was watching TV in the sitting room
and after the usual greetings, the boys sat down, one on either side
of her.
"Come on. Out with it." She said knowing that they were after
something.
"We've got the chance to go to a sleep-over at Alex's next
Friday after Scouts. Can we go?" Robert asked.
"I can't see why not. You both need something to take your
mind off the events of the past week or so."
"Thanks." Simon said. "But what about Michael?"
"Don't worry. Dad and I usually do the night shift. An extra
night won't make any difference."
"Thanks mum." The boys said together before giving her a hug
and heading off up stairs. While they were up stairs they bumped into
Robert's dad. Well, they smelt something that told them what Robert's
dad had been doing: changing Michael.
"Pooh! What a pong!" Robert said.
"You can say that again!" Came a voice from the other room.
Simon and Robert burst out laughing. Simon went through and took
over. Besides, he wanted some time with Michael. Robert changed and
went looking for Arthur. It didn't take him long to track him down.
The rhythmic thump, thump, thump from his stereo led Robert straight
to him. He gently pushed the door open to his brother's room.
What he saw shocked him. There, lying on the bed, was his
brother and right beside him was Sarah-Louise. At first he thought it
was only some sort of `touchy-feely' game, but he soon realised it
was more serious than that. Their hands were all over each other's
body and they seemed permanently joined at the lips. Robert quietly
pulled the door closed and headed off down stairs.
Simon was in the sitting room with Michael on the large
settee and mum and dad were on the small one. There was a program on
the TV about relationships. They were all engrossed especially when
Peter, the councillor they had seen, came on. He was taking part in a
discussion about gay relationships and his opponents were a "typical"
middle-class couple with Victorian attitudes. Peter stood no chance
of enlightening them.
The couple kept going on about the morals of single gender
relationships. It was their only argument apart from the law. But
Peter talked about instance after instance that he had seen where
young people had a mature and legal relationship. He even mentioned
that he had seen it in people as young as 13. Robert and Simon's
attention peaked. He didn't mention any names or specific detail, but
the boys knew it was them that he was referring to. They looked at
each other and smiled. The program finished and Simon took Michael up
and lay him in his cot at the foot of the bed.
As Robert was on his way up, he passed Sarah-Louise on the
stairs. As they passed she gave him a hug and a quick peck on the
cheek. Robert flushed bright red. Arthur on the other hand wasn't
very pleased, but knew better than to say anything until after she
had left. He went back up stairs, but instead of going straight to
bed went into Simon and Robert's room. He jumped straight onto the
bed pinning Robert down, his arms under the covers.
"You lay off of my bird!" He almost shouted. "She's mine!"
"What the hell are you on about?" Simon asked.
"He kissed my bird on the stairs." Arthur replied.
"No! She kissed me!" Robert argued.
"Whoa! You two." Simon said firmly as he grabbed Arthur's
wrist as he was about to land one on a defenceless Robert.
"You have forgotten one thing Squirt." Simon said. Arthur
rounded on him.
	"My name is A.R.T.H.U.R. Arthur!"
"You have still forgotten one thing. Robert is gay. He's not
interested in girls."
"So tell him to leave Sarah-Louise alone!"
"Me leave her alone! You should have seen what they were up
to earlier." Robert retaliated. Arthur went red and scrambled off of
the bed and ran out of the room. "What they were doing was almost
pornographic." Robert laughed.
	"Shut it!" Simon said angrily.
"What's wrong with you?" Robert asked.
"You and your brother are always arguing and I hate it! Life
is too short for pointless squabbles." Robert just lay there. Simon
finished getting undressed and climbed in to bed. Robert put his arm
around Simon's shoulders.
"Sorry Si'. I didn't do anything, it was all Sarah-Louise."
Robert said softly.
"I know." Simon replied. "She has had a crush on you for ages
now and until tonight, I though she was using Arthur to get to you,
but after what you saw tonight, I am not so sure. Was it really that
bad?" Robert whispered what he had seen in Simon's ear. Simon almost
blushed.
"See what I mean?" Robert asked.
"I think we need to have a chat with him. And her, before
things get out of hand."
"I agree. If dad knew what was going on, he would go
ballistic."
Simon switched the bedside light out and the boys cuddled
down. They had just got comfortable when Simon was forced to get out
of bed. Michael was crying. He climbed back in to bed a few minutes
later.
"Just wind, thank God!" Simon said as he settled down again.
He had just got comfortable for a second time when he was disturbed
again. This time, it was Robert trying to get Simon's knees up.
Before Simon really twigged what was going on, Robert's backside was
in his face. He gently massaged the two round globes as he gently
kissed them both.
Robert was doing pretty much the same thing under the covers,
but this time he became more daring and swiped his tongue across
between Simon's cheeks. Simon almost screamed as the sensations shot
through him. He heard a muffled chuckle from beneath the
covers. 'Right you sod,' Simon thought as he did the same back to
Robert. Robert wasn't so restrained as a muffled shriek came from
under the blankets and his whole body shook violently for a few
seconds.
"Bloody hell Robby. Are you OK?" Simon asked lifting the
covers.
"WOW! That was ace!" Came the reply as Robert repeated the
action on Simon. It had pretty much the same effect on Simon this
time as it had on Robert last time, but Robert kept going. Simon was
nearly a gibbering wreck as his body shook and his pleasure levels
rocketed. This continued for a few more seconds before Simon let out
a serious groan.
"You messy bugger!" Robert said as he crawled out the bottom
of the bed. Simon just lay there, his body still in spasm. The
evidence of Simon's excitement was plain to see as it dripped and ran
down Robert's neck and chest.
Simon was now lying very still with his eyes closed. Robert
looked at him lovingly. Then he realised Simon hadn't moved for a few
minutes.
"Si'. SI'. Are you ok?" Robert asked as he scrambled round
the bed to get closer to his lover's face. "Come on SI'. Stop fuckin'
around." The covers were all pulled down towards the foot of the bed
where Robert dragged himself out leaving Simon's chest and arms
exposed.
Robert leant closer to see if Simon was breathing. Nothing!
He was starting to panic. What had he done to his lover? He moved his
lips closer to Simon's. He was ready to start CPR when suddenly Simon
shouted "Gotcha!" as he wrapped his arms around Robert and gave him a
hug so tight it was almost a bear hug.
"You shit!" Robert said. Suddenly he yelped!
"Is this what you two call looking after the baby?" Robert's
mother asked having just swatted Robert's bear behind. With all the
commotion they hadn't heard the baby start crying.
Simon immediately rolled Robert to one side and crawled
rapidly down the bed. He was about to pick him up when Robert's
mother said.
"Not in that state your not!" She picked the baby up and left
the room. Both boys instantly went the colour of ripe cherries. They
were covered in who knows what. Simon sat on the foot of the bed. His
head hung low. He felt really bad. He had let his brother down, his
parents down and most of all his new parents. Robert felt pretty much
the same because he had let Simon down. It was, after all, his fault.
He started their new game that had caused all the noise.
They headed off to the bathroom both reaching for their
bathrobes. Something they hadn't really done before. After a quick
and silent wash they went back to bed. Simon lay on his side as the
tears of disappointment rolled down his face. Robert cuddled up close
behind him holding him in a tight but comfortable hug.
"You can get that thing away for a start." Simon said as he
passed his hand down between them brushing Robert's favourite toy
away from his behind.
	"Sorry Si'. I didn't mean . . . " Robert was cut short.
"It's not your fault." Simon said as he turned to face
Robert. They both hugged each other tight and fell asleep. Both were
feeling miserable. Neither had realised that standing in the open
doorway was Robert's dad. He was going to give them a piece of his
mind, but decided against it when he heard how hard the boys were
being on themselves.
Robert's father returned to bed and lay there chatting
quietly to his wife. She was a little surprised when he told her he
hadn't spoken to the boys. But when he explained what he had heard
she too was satisfied. He also commented on the bathrobes. They
concluded that the boys were definitely growing up especially in
light of the responsibility they usually showed when looking after
the baby.
The house descended into almost silence. The only sound that
could be heard was from Arthur. The rhythmic rustle of bed covers and
his breathing getting deeper and quicker and finally a groan of
pleasure.
"It sounds like you need to speak to Arthur though." Robert's
mum said seriously.
"If it isn't the two, it's the one. I'll deal with that in
the morning." He turned the light out and apart from the baby
disturbing them several times the night passed uneventfully.
Being a Saturday, the boys set about their chores, which now
included looking after the baby. When they had finished, Simon picked
up his keys and the two boys and the baby headed off to Simon's
house. Simon was very unsteady as he opened the front door. Most of
his parents things had been taken away. That didn't worry him too
much, he was more interested in his old room. Again most of his
things were now over at Robert's, his new home, but he had to empty
his hidey-hole while he had the chance.
It wasn't really for hiding things from his parents, it was
more a place where he kept things that were precious to him. He even
made Robert look away as he opened it up. He didn't know why. Robert
was amazed at the things he was getting out and placing into a
carrier bag. There was a picture of Simon and his aunt Flow. Just
looking at it brought a tear to his eye. There were a few other odds-
and-ends, but Simon didn't explain what they were all about. Then
Robert recognised a newspaper. On the front page was a story about a
Scout saving another from a river. The memories came flooding back to
him. It happened on summer camp last year. Simon and he had had a bit
of an argument and Robert fell in the river. Simon of course rescued
him and they both ended up in hospital over night with hypothermia.
"You remember it too then?" Simon asked.
"How can I forget?" Robert replied as he leant forward and
kissed Simon on the cheek. Both boys smiled at each other. Simon had
finished emptying his hidey-hole and with the carrier bag neatly
tucked into the foot of the pram they headed for home. As they were
leaving there was a man outside with Robert's dad. He was in the
process of putting up a "For Sale" board. The boys passed the time of
day with the men politely before heading off home. Robert's dad
arrived home shortly after they had.
"You two were the last people I expected to find round at
Mike's." Robert's father said to the boys.
"It was the last place I expected to be, but Si' wanted to go
round and I wasn't going to let him go alone." Robert replied.
"It's ok. I would have been surprised if he hadn't." The boys
headed off into the kitchen. They were busy preparing baby Michael's
feeding bottles when their mum came in.
"Are you ok love?" She asked Simon, catching Robert off guard.
	"Fine." Robert replied.
"Just a bit down." Simon replied as he turned and hugged her
tight. His trip to his old home had had more of an effect on him than
he had anticipated.
"Don't worry. Remember, we are all here for you if you need
us." Simon smiled and returned to helping Robert with the feeds. "By
the way, you two have some washing to do." She continued.
"What?" Robert said a little too surprisedly.
"You have some sheets and a quilt cover to wash after last
night. That wasn't like either of you. You're usually so careful not
to make a mess." The boys both glowed red. It was now obvious she had
been checking up on them.
"M-u-m." Robert said in a wavering tone.
"You made the mess, you clear it up." She turned and left.
"I'll do it." Robert said. "You finish up here." With that
Robert turned and started filling the washing machine. It didn't take
him long to get the load on and both boys sat down at the kitchen
table for a cup of tea. Less than an hour later the sheets and quilt
cover were out on the line drying.
"Mum, we're off out for a while. OK?" Simon shouted out.
"OK. See you later." Came the reply from dad.
The boys wandered off and found themselves walking along the
riverbank. The river was much higher than normal and the water was
flowing fast. A little way in front of them was a small group of
boys. They couldn't have been much older than 9 or 10 and were
generally being boys. The boys spotted Simon and Robert walking a
little way behind them. The problem was Simon and Robert were holding
hands and pretty soon a torrent of abuse was flowing from them. That
is until there was a scream followed by a big splash.
The group of boys immediately started to panic. Simon rushed
forward and saw one of the boys in the river. It was obvious he
couldn't swim very well, if at all. Simon dived in without
hesitating. Robert did his best to calm the boys on the bank without
loosing site of Simon. Simon got to the boy, but was having trouble
bringing him back towards the bank.
"Give me your belts!" Robert shouted at the others as he took
his own off. The boys gave him a funny look.
"GIVE'M TO ME QUICKLY!" Robert shouted again. Quickly, he
linked the stronger ones together into a sort of rope and threw one
end out to Simon who grabbed it and Robert and the boys pulled Simon
and the other boy to the bank. The problem now was how to get them
out.
"GRAB HIM!" Simon shouted as he shoved the boy up in the air.
Robert grabbed him and yanked him onto the bank. In the mean time
Simon had started off down stream again.
"SEE YOU AT THE PIPE!" Robert shouted to Simon and dashed
off, the boys followed on a little slower. The pipe was about 100
metres further down stream and was about a metre and a half above the
water level. Robert lay on the pipe and worked himself out along the
pipe so that he was just clear of the bank, locked his legs and
rolled under the pipe. He hung there upside down for 10 to 15 seconds
until he saw Simon.
Robert reached his arms out and grabbed Simon's shirt collar.
Simon reached up and grabbed Robert's waste. Somehow, Simon got out
of the water and back onto the bank as a police officer grabbed them
both and hauled them to safety away from the water's edge.
In the mean time, the group of boys had explained to the
other officer what had happened. The second officer turned to Robert
and Simon and was surprised when he realised they were both Scouts
from his Troop. Simon and Robert were absolutely gob smacked too!
Needless to say, Simon and the younger boy were taken off to hospital
to be checked over, but neither were kept in.
"Was it déjà vu or what?" Robert asked.
"I dunno, but what ever it was, it was bloody cold." Simon
replied with a smile.
"Sorry love." Robert said as he wrapped his arms around Simon
and hugged him tight.
"Give it a rest you two!" Came a voice from the front of the
car. In the end they just held hands as their dad drove them home.
