Subject: Becoming - Chapter 12

With nothing better to do, Missouri looked over her notes. When John had
first come to her, they had done a background check on Mary and her
family. They couldn't find any documentation on her prior to her meeting
John four years before her marriage to him. A further investigation helped
them prove that most of her documents were forged. She had invented
herself.

John had recounted to her the strange dreams of a beautiful blond woman and
how he was instantly captivated when he met Mary. She was literally the
girl of his dreams. Back then John thought nothing of it. He didn't know
better then.

They came to the conclusion that Mary had given up her birthright to be
with him and that another being like herself wanted what amounted to the
rights to her kingdom by producing an heir. The question was why. Why was
it so important to this creature to have a child from Mary's lineage. She
considered the various folklore surrounding royal births from Jesus to
Osiris and other mythology.

"A savior," she whispered. "But who are you here to save?"

"When they call back with a meeting location, I want you to wait here," Sam
ordered.

"Sam!"

"I mean it Dean. You stay here. I'll handle this."

Sam rifled through his bags and took out jeans, a tee shirt and underwear.

"Sammy," Dean yelled.

"What?"

Dean pointed towards Sam's wings. "You can't exactly go out like that in
broad daylight."

"It won't be daylight much longer."

"You know what I mean."

Sam walked over to the bed and sat beside his brother. A half smile
threatened to replace the scowl that was formerly there.

"I'm sorry Dean. I didn't mean to yell at you like that."

"I know," Dean answered, reaching up to stroke his lover's face.

"So what do we do now?" Sam asked, looking to his big brother for answers.

"First," Dean said, sitting up, "you start by telling me everything she
said to you."

"She's claiming to be my sister. Apparently the thing that killed mom and
Jess is her father too."

"Okay...what else."

"She...she said something about taking my rightful place as leader."

"You know, dad said something major was coming down months ago, remember.
He said `they' were everywhere."

"I remember. That was when we...," Sam broke off.

"Went our separate ways," Dean finished. "Sam, that's in the past. I'm
yours...you said so," Dean smiled.

"I was in the throes of passion. I didn't know what I was saying."

"Were you in the throes of passion when you told me I was stuck with you?"

"You mean the time I saved your ass from the fertility god?"

"Okay, truce. Let's get back to figuring out how to save dad."

"There's only one way Dean. I have to join them, figure out what's really
going on."

"No," Dean said forcefully, climbing off the bed. "absolutely not.
Besides, there is no guarantee that they'll spare dad's life if you join
them."

"And dad is dead if I don't."

"Since when did you start caring so much about what happens to him?"

"I don't Dean. But you do and I care about you and what makes you happy."

"Sammy...I..."

"Please Dean, no chick flick moments."

Sam flashed a wicked smile and managed to dodge the pillow that came
hurling towards his head.

"Dean...there's something else you should know," Sam cautioned. "Shane
said your allegiance is crucial. I think that's why he came after you in
the first place."

"Sammy..."

"Think about it Dean. An incubus can take on the appearance of someone
appealing to their victim. Who did Shane look like when you first met
him?"

"You," Dean muttered.

"Do you know who he reminded me of when he appeared with his long blond
hair?"

"Jessica," Dean whispered.

"Yeah, only he got it wrong. Jessica was a female you."

Dean smiled. "Really?"

"Really. She was sarcastic, opinionated,..."

"And stunningly beautiful," Dean added.

"And modest, just like you. Did I ever tell you that I made Shane go away.
At least I think I did."

"How?"

"I visited him in his dreams. I knew he was hurting you and I told him to
get lost, you were mine."

"But, you were only fifteen then."

"I know. At the time I thought it was just a dream, but think about it.
Shane never came back after that."

"So," Dean began with a smirk, "you had the hots for me back then."

"Dean, this is serious. You could of kicked his ass at anytime. Why did
you let him hurt you.?"

Dean watched in awe as Sam's wings retracted. Sam was so angry and
jealous, he barely noticed.

"Um Sammy, I think we found the off switch."

"What are you going to do with me?"

Megan sat across from the bound man and flashed a vicious smile. "Use your
imagination."

"What do you want with my son?" John said, trying to sound angry and in
control.

"It depends on which one you're talking about. You see John, may I call
you John, everything isn't as black and white as you believe. Forget all
your concepts about good and evil, it's really all about the balance of
power. That balance was altered when our father and your wife conceived
Sam. Hell, even the birth of Dean tipped the scales slightly. It was
supposed to be a simple kidnapping. Hide the child and others like him
until the right moment. But plans had to change, thanks in no small part to
you and your meddling. Why couldn't you be like other humans, grieve,
deny, move on. Now we have to step up our plans. Let's hope Sam is ready.

"Ready for what?"

"Now now, a girl can't tell all her secrets."

"What is that supposed to mean?" John asked, barely containing his rage.

"You'll see." Meg taunted before rising and leaving John alone to ponder
her words."

Shane was waiting for her when she came out.

"I hope you didn't tell him too much," he worried.

"Trust me, half of what I told him isn't even the truth."

"Except for needing Sam."

"Well yeah, but John Winchester needs to believe there is some higher
purpose to all that's going on. Like I said, the whole good and evil
thing," Meg smirked.

"But you practically told him it wasn't about that already," Shane argued.

"To a point. John Winchester isn't stupid. He sees the increase in what
he'd call demonic activity. He just wants to clump us into one category
and blame all that is bad on us."

"Well let's see Meg, you rip mens throats open and drink their blood. How
should a human perceive that." Shane asked smugly as they entered another
room.

"As survival. Something we all have a right to do." Meg barked.

Shane threw his hands up. He knew full well why their father was breeding
with every creature man feared and why Sam was so important. He was
attempting to do what no immortal had done before. Create an army of
immortal children that would be a force to be reckoned with. He was
creating an empire with Sam as the heir apparent. The problem was Sam
wasn't coming without Dean and they both knew that. There were only two
choices, separate Sam and Dean or bring them together. Separation had
failed. Now the question was, would Dean let go of vengeance and stand at
his brother's side with them or would they find those who opposed them and
lead an army of their own. An army that could destroy everything Meg,
Shane and their father had worked towards.

Shane knew John's influence on them was strong. He had no doubt that
killing him would bring their plans to an abrupt end but if they could
force their hand, make John attack and force Dean or Sam to kill him, they
just might have a chance.

"When will you make the call?" Shane asked.

"After dark."

"But he'll be stronger after dark. He's already changed at least once and
as far as I know, they've mated," Shane complained.

"But the other hasn't come into his power yet." Meg snapped.

"How do you know that," Shane insisted.

"Because they haven't mated in their dreams yet. They haven't had a
chance. You and I both know that's where the true transference of power
begins. Besides, dividing them may still work. From what we know, Sam
doesn't trust his father and Dean does. Tonight, we'll test that loyalty
once and for all.
