When the call came, he and Dean had just made love in their dreams. It had
been Megan who communicated with him. He knew he had to leave his brother
behind. He also knew it would be temporary. He had no intention of losing
Dean. He had a plan. The visions were stronger now and much clearer. There
wasn't time to explain to Dean. He hoped Dean would keep his promise and
not leave him. Dean would probably figure he meant physically. He hoped
eventually his brother would truly understand the nature of their
connection. He needed Dean not to leave him mentally. Dean had a way of
blocking emotion. It would be difficult to reach him if he shut memories
of their time together out.

It was strange how at home Sam felt in his new skin. Despite attempts at
being normal, he never felt more normal then when his transformation was
complete. Shane had been right, it got easier with each time he changed.
He had sensed Dean trying to reach him but couldn't chance coming to him.
He needed to gain Shane and the others absolute trust. Megan was the most
skeptical of his sudden change of heart and therefore the one who watched
him closely. The jury was still out on Shane. Although Shane seemed to do
most of the dirty work, Sam sensed he was not comfortable with the plan for
world domination. Megan and Shane argued often. Sam intended to exploit
this at some point. The months without Dean were long. In that time he
learned that the power the others like him sought wasn't as hellish as he'd
presumed. There was a general consensus that the world needed to go in a
different direction and others like himself felt they had the solution. The
problem as Sam saw it was the age old saying that absolute power corrupts
absolutely no matter who held that power. And with a propensity for evil,
it was a struggle to keep that balance of power in check. That's where he
came in. Because incubus's and succubus's were considered relatively
innocuous, they were able to breed and outnumber other creatures of the
demon world with alarming speed without raising suspicions. Virtually
indestructible and nearly immortal, they soon infiltrated every sector of
the paranormal world humans feared. But they'd become disorganized and
needed leadership.

Sam learned his true father's plan was to seed the human race and raise an
army of his own. He planned for his children to control every level of
human society, sit in seats of power throughout the world, influence global
policy. Sam was meant to go to law school. He was destined to do more
than that. Through conversations with Shane he learned that he was to one
day sit in the seat of power just like others like him were being primed
for key areas in governments all over the world.

"So you see," Shane had said, during one of their training sessions, "your
father's war is petty. Much more is at stake then the revenge of your
girlfriend and mother."

It was funny. Sam never saw the logic in his father's quest, even when
he'd briefly championed the cause for Jesse's sake. Sam always imagined
doing great things, important things. Now he had the chance only, now more
than ever he needed Dean by his side.

"I know you think about him," Shane had said one day when Sam was sitting
in the pavilion of their temporary home. Be careful. If Meg and father
find out, they'll destroy him."

"If they touch him," Sam began, feeling his anger welling up inside of
him,"I'll destroy them."

"If you can hold on a little longer, that won't be necessary."

"What are you talking about?" Sam spat out, not in the mood for more of
Shane's riddles.

"You've mated in your dreams. I can tell. He'll come into his power soon
and he can protect himself. You just have to stay away from him a little
longer."

"Why are you telling me all this?" Sam asked angrily.

He still wasn't sure he could trust Shane, no matter how hard the man
tried to be his friend.

"I loved him."

Sam studied the man. He was unreadable.

"You had a strange way of showing it."

"I only tapped into what Dean wanted. He wanted to be hurt. He wanted to
be punished for..."

"Loving me, I know. He told me." Sam closed his eyes trying hard to wash
the image of a bruised and battered Dean out of his head.

"Sam," Shane reached out for the younger man.

"Don't...touch me."

"You have to stay in control. Not all of us agree with what's going on,"
Shane spoke, drawing back his hand. "Some of us just want to survive, live
the way we were created without fear of being hunted."

"And taking over the world...you think that will accomplish it?"

Shane shook his head. "Meg and our father and the others like him think
so. I know the truth, I think you do too. People will always fear what
they don't understand."

"How long?" Sam interrupted.

"How long?" Shane furrowed his brow, confused by the question.

"How long until Dean...changes...or whatever he's going to do?"

"Not long now. You'll know when it happens. Just hang in there."

Shane walked away leaving Sam more confused then ever. Why was Shane
suddenly trying to be his best friend and confidante?' Sam wondered. 'Was
it a trick? Were they trying to feel him out to see if he could be
trusted?' Whatever the reason, Sam knew he could wait them out. He had his
own plans, one that included ridding the world of the thing that fathered
him. Up until now, he'd never been face to face with the creature. He'd
wait, get his audience with the thing, assess the situation as he'd been
taught and then strike.

"Wait for me Dean," he whispered. "Don't give up on me yet.
