The DJ broke in to the song that was being played; stating, "It has
been reported to this station that at 2:00 this afternoon, Kevin
Richardson, a member of the Backstreet Boys will be having a news
conference, informing everyone that he will be leaving the group for
personal reasons, and that tonight will be his last performance with the
group. Please stay tuned......."

AJ quickly shut off the radio interrupting the end of the special
announcement.

All of the guys were stunned. Each one looked at another in awe,
hoping that what they heard wasn't true. The limo pulled up to the back
entrance to the hotel to secretly let the guys out. Not one word was
spoken since the radio announcement. After everyone entered the hotel,
Howie was the first to speak.

"Well, guys I guess by now our management knows what's up, so lets
all go back to our rooms and wait for me to call you." Howie walked over
to Brian and gently hugged him. "Don't worry bro, no one blames you.
Hopefully we'll be able to put this behind us for tonight and give Kevin
the farewell he deserves at the concert."

Nick and AJ agreed with Howie, and followed him up to their suites.
Brain watched as the guys got in the elevator. Once the door had closed,
Brian began to cry. He looked at Jakob for comfort.

"Brian I'm going to have the driver take me back home for now. I
won't be attending the concert tonight either. I think its for the better.
Howie was right, this is going to be Kevin's night, and if I'm there it'll
ruin everything."

"Hey Jake, I appreciate that, but I would like you to be there for
me. I don't know if I'm going to be able make it through the concert,
knowing that tomorrow, my best friend, will no longer be apart of the
group. Kevin doesn't have a problem with you, its with me. Maybe, I
shouldn't go."

"You know that's not what you want to do. Please tell the rest of
the guys that I'm sorry I'll miss the show. Wish them all luck for me will
ya. Also, tell Kevin, that I'm not mad at him for hitting me, after all it
was meant for you. Call me tonight, no matter what time you return to the
hotel, I think we need to talk about our situation, and where we go form
here."

"Jake, are you sure you won't reconsider?"

"Yes, I'm positive, I can use the time alone. I need to think
about what happened yesterday and today. I guess I should also, call my
girlfriend and let her know, that we are no longer right for each other.
Brian, no matter what happens between us, I don't ever think I could lover
her that way she deserves to be loved."

Jake turned away form Brian, and started walking to the car
awaiting him. When he approached The car, and turned to look at Brain. He
quickly waved goodbye to Brian as he entered the car. Moments later, the
car drove away. Brian watched the car drive further and further away from
him, until he could no longer see it. Brian grabbed his backpack, and went
to his suite to wait for Howie to let him know what was going on.

When Brian reached his floor, there was an eary silence in the
hallway. Usually, the night of a big show, their are crew people running
form one room to the next, getting the boys ready for the concert. Brian's
room was a the end of the long hall. As he passed by each of the guy's
room , he wondered what they were doing at this moment. As he passed by
Nick's room, he could hear the music playing. Nick always played music,
before a concert to calm his nerves. The walk down the hallway was
symbolic to Brian, once again he was alone. Would this be how it would be
now, that his confident was leaving the group? Sure the other guys
accepted Brian being gay, but would nothing will ever be the same between
them anymore.

All these thoughts were running through Brian's mind as he walked
in his room. Brian placed his bag down on t he sofa in his sitting room
and walked towards the window. As he looked out the window he could see
all the screaming fans, with signs saying "Don't Leave Kevin, We Love You"
and "We'll Miss You Kevin." Brain turned away form the window, knowing
what he had to do.

    __________________________________________________________________

"Listen Howie, I am sorry that the group had to hear it from the
radio; I wanted to be the one to tell the rest of the group that I was
leaving. I don't know how it got out to the press."

"But, Kevin, why are you leaving. Brian said you knew that he was
gay. You known for some time now, and you've never had a problem with it
before. Why all of a sudden?"

"Its complicated Howie. I wish I could tell you, but I can't right
now. All I know is that I need to leave the band. And it has nothing to
do with Brian being gay. Your right, I have known for a long time that
Brain was gay and its never bothered me before and it doesn't bother me
now."

"Kevin, your not making any sense. If it doesn't bother you that
Brian is gay than why are you leaving?"

"Howie, when Brian first told me he was gay, I was shocked. I told
that was his own business, as long as it didn't get in the way of the
group. I told him we all worked very hard to get where were at today, and
I didn't want nothing to ruin us. Brain promised me that day, that he
would never do anything to jeopardize the group. A promise that I took
very seriously. Brian and I have never shared secrets from each other. We
are family. When he made that promise to me I knew I could trust him,
because he was my family. Now I find out that he lied to me and if I can't
trust my own cousin to be truthful, how can I trust the rest of you guys."

"Kevin, that's not fair. Brian didn't lie to you. If he finds
someone who he really loves, we should be happen for him. My parent's
always taught me that their is one person out there for everyone. I may
not agree with Brain, but if Jakob is Brian's soul mate, than I will back
him up one-hundred percent. If it destroys our group, so be it. No matter
what happens to the group, we're all family. You and Brian are related by
blood, but we are brothers. You said that yourself Kev."

"Howie, it doesn't matter now. I'm about to have a press
conference telling the world that I'm leaving. Even if I wanted to stay I
couldn't."

Just then, Brian walked calmly into Kevin's room. He approached
Keivn and Howie who were sitting around the table.

"Howie can I talk to Kevin alone for a minute," Brian asked?

"Sure, Brian. I'll just go and get Nick and AJ. I think we all
need to talk before this press conference."

Howie got up from the table and left the room. Brian looked around
the room, not making eye contact with his cousin. Brian took Howie's old
seat and sat at the table. Brian looked at Kevin who was trying to hold
back his tears.

"Listen Kevin, I know how much being a member of this group means
to you. So I decided that at the press conference I'll be the one
announcing that I am leaving, because of heart problems. We'll just say
the rumor got out that you were the one leaving."

Kevin looked up at his cousin, who was crying uncontrollable.
Kevin was surprised that Brian had said this, because he knows how much
Brian loves being a backstreet boy also, even more than him. Kevin got up
from the table and walked over to his dresser. He opened the drawer and
pulled out an old photograph. He walked over to the table and handed Brian
the picture.

"Kevin where did you get this picture at," Brian asked?

"Brian that picture was taken we were kids at my parent's ranch.
Do you remember the day we took that picture?"

"Yea, it was on a Sunday, after church. I was spending the week
with your family at the ranch. I remember it was very hot that day, and we
decided to go down to the pool."

"Do you remember what happened on the way to the pool," Kevin
asked?

"Yea, on the way down the hill, I tripped over a stump, and fell.
When I got up, I was bleeding pretty bad and I couldn't walk. And you had
to carry be all the way back up to the top of the hill, back to the house.
If you hadn't been there for me, I would have bled to death."

"Brian, that night when you were in the hospital was the worst
night of my life. I had no idea if you were going to be all right or if
you were going to be paralyzed, and I blamed myself. If I hadn't been
running down the hill, you wouldn't have tripped. I promised myself that
night that I would always be there for you, no matter what."

"Well, then why are you leaving? I need you now more than ever
cous. You are my best friend. If your not with me, I can't be part of
this group. I need you to help me through this time in my life."

"Brian the night you told me that you were gay, I promised you that
I would be there for you. I had to, because I promised myself that I would
always be there for you. After that night, I've carried this picture on me
to remind myself of the promise I made to you. When you told me you were
gay, I was crushed. I was so angry with you that I needed that picture to
remind me of my promise." And then I made you promise me that you would
never do anything to jeopardize the group. When I walked in on you and
Jakob this morning, I wasn't surprised. I knew you liked him. But I used
that as my excuse to break my promise to myself. I figured if I blamed you
for breaking your promise, that I would be able to break mine, and I
wouldn't have to pretend I was all right with your choices."

"Kevin if you had a problem, why didn't you come to me. I also
made a promise to myself that if you were ever hurting I would be there for
you, like you were for me, that day I fell. So I guess in a way I broke my
promise to you, Because I could not see you were hurting inside. So in a
way we both broke our promises to each other. Can't you stay with the
group."

By now both Kevin and Brian were crying. Kevin got up form the
table and gave his cousin the biggest hug he could.

	"Of course I'll stay."

Just then, Howie, Nick, and AJ walked in the room, expecting to
hear arguing. When they heard Kevin say he would stay, they ran up to
Kevin and Brian and gave them both a hug.

"Hey I'm sorry I have to break this up, but we have a show to do
tonight and we need to practice," Kevin said.

"What about the press conference," Nick asked?

"Who cares. Let our manager take care of it. That's what we pay
them for," Kevin responded. "Lets all get our stuff ready. If we hurry we
can get the full rehearsal in, before the show."

Everyone went to their separate rooms to grab their stuff. When
Brian reached his room he saw the rose that he had given to Jakob the night
before. He was so excited, because he couldn't wait to see Jakob, to tell
him the good news. Before leaving for the arena, Brian made a couple quick
phone calls. he couldn't wait to see the look on Jakob's face when he
surprised him.

While Brian, and Kevin, settled their differences, Jakob was on the
way back to his house. What would he do next. Should he tell his family
that he is gay? Is he gay? The long trip back to his house from the
hotel, provided Jake with some much needed private time. He had a lot to
think about, and a very short time to do it. He tried to convince himself
that everything that happened last night, was due to the alcohol, and he
didn't enjoy it. But no matter how many times he said that over and over
again, he knew it wasn't true. How would he tell his girlfriend what
happened. His parents?

As the limo pulled into his drive, Jake remembered that his parents
would be home tomorrow afternoon, and he had to decide what he would do.
Once Jakob was finally settled he decided to take a shower, that always
helped him clear his head. While in the shower, the phone rang over and
over again. Jake did not bother to answer it. He just stood under the hot
stream of water thinking and crying. He wondered what al the guys thought
of him. Did they believe him that he had no feelings for Brian until last
night? Did he ever have feelings for other guys before last night? Maybe
I was always gay, but just ignored my feelings, he thought to himself.
after about a hour of showering and thinking he decided to take a little
nap. He knew what he had to do and that was to end his relationship with
Brian and move on, eventually he'll be able to forget about Brian. He
decided that he would just pretend that last night ever happened. As he
crawled into bed he looked at the clock and saw that it was just about time
for the guys to be leaving for the arena. I hope Brian will go to the
concert tonight, he thought to himself. He wondered about the how the
press conference went, but he didn't have the heart to turn on the
television. As he began to drift off to sleep, the phone began to ring
again. Jake ignored the phone and just let the machine get it, but no one
left a message. For the first time since last night, Jakob was finally
sleeping peacefully.

    __________________________________________________________________

Back at the arena, Brian was getting worried that, Jakob was not
answering the phone. Did he get home all right? Of course he did or the
limo driver would have called and notified me. Brian tried calling again
and again before the show started, but still no answer. He couldn't wait
to tell Jakob the good news, about Kevin deciding to stay with the group.
Well maybe He saw the press conference and decided to surprise Brian at the
concert, Brian thought. Brian then notified the security that someone will
be coming to the concert and just to show them backstage. Brian felt a
little better now, but he couldn't wait for the show to be over so he
Jakob, could be together again.

After the show, the guys were exhausted and got backstage as
quickly as possible. There was a few guests that was waiting backstage who
has won backstage passes and were waiting to see the guys. When the guys
went to change Brain quickly went to his dressing room t see if Jakob had
come to the show. When Brian walked in he was disappointed to see that his
room was empty. He quickly changed and left a note for the guys that he
would catch with them later. And that he was going to go and see if Jakob
was all right. On the way, Brian stopped at his hotel and got all the
white roses from his room that he ordered to surprise Jakob with. He
filled the limo with all the flowers and set up a romantic dinner for the
two of them. He told the driver to hurry.

    __________________________________________________________________

Jakob's alarm clock went off around the same time the concert
ended. He got out of bed and took another quick shower to refresh him. He
knew that what he had to tell Brian would be difficult, but it would be
best for everyone. He grabbed a bite to eat and went to turn on the
television to see if he could hear about the press conference or the
concert. He decided to just sit in the dark, because seeing Brian again
would just hurt him more. He finished his snack and awaited patiently for
Brian's call. After about an hour of sitting in the dark, the phone rang.
Jakob was startled by the noise, but he knew who t was, and he was prepared
to do what he had to do.

__________________________________________________________________

When the limo arrived at the bottom of Jakob's street, Brian told
the driver to stop for a second. He wanted to tell Jake to get dressed and
that he would be coming up the street. Brian picked up the phone and
dialed Jake's number. When Brian heard Jake's voice he almost started
crying.

"Hey Jake, its Brian ... "

Jake didn't let Brian finish. He knew he had to quickly say what
was on his mind so he wouldn't chicken out. "Listen Brian I'm glad you
called me. Today I realized that I didn't love you or what happened last
night. I glad I got to know you and the guys, but I think its best that we
never see or talk to each other anymore. Its better for me, you, and the
rest of the group. Please tell the guys that I said goodbye and wish them
all luck in the future. No matter what happens this is for the best. I
hope you find someone who can love you the way you deserve to be loved.
Brian you're a good person and no matter what happens in the future I'll
never forget the time we spent together." Jake blurted out everything he
had to say and whispered goodbye to Brian for the last time. He hung up
the phone, not letting Brian say anything else. By this time he was
crying, and just continued to sit in the dark.

Brian tried to call him back, but Jake didn't answer the phone
Brian's hear was crushed. He looked around the limo looking at all the
white roses he had bought. Brian took all the flowers and laid them in the
Jakob's front yard. He took one last look at the flowers and got back in
the car. He told the driver to take him back to the hotel. Brian was
devastated by what Jakob said. Brian knew that him and the guys left
tomorrow and he didn't know if he would ever see Jake again. He sat in
silence on the way back to the hotel. When the limo arrived a the hotel,
Brian went up to his room, not even telling the guys what happened. He put
a DO NOT DISTURB sign on his door and sat on the balcony starring into the
city lights all night.
