Subject: 'D-Evolution' Chapter1

Hey there everyone! I have been a long time reader of the Nifty
Archives, but this is the first chance that I've had to write a story of my
own. Since you're here, I would suggest reading some of my favorite
stories like 'Nsync Lance and JC', 'Kevin and Justin', 'Escape' and
'Choices', and 'Brian and Me' by the awesome DLS. After you're done here,
please go and read some of these stories. I think you'll enjoy them.

Disclaimer:

Do I really have to? Please, please, please don't make me! Fine,
be that way!

This is a work of complete fiction. That means that none of this is real
(like you don't know that)! This is not meant to imply anything about the
sexuality of the Backstreet Boys or anyone else who happens to wander into
the story in the future. If you think that this IS real, please
immediately stop reading the story and start reading the label on your
Prozac bottle. I think they may have given you the wrong dosage.

D-Evolution

Chapter: 1

**Prologue**

The funny thing is, I was never a huge fan of the BSB. Though I
did find pleasure in it from time to time, their music was something I had
the urge to listen to primarily when I was depressed. However, all that
aside, I still found the guys to be of interest. I envied them their
talents and success, but pitied them their hectic lives and lack of
privacy. Yes, they are also all very good- looking, but I have never been
so shallow as to allow someone's looks to determine how I treat and act
toward them. Personality is exceedingly important to me and from what I
have seen of them, the boys' personalities are ones that I could handle on
a regular basis.
Well, as for me, my name is Doug McCarver. I am 21 years old, 6'
tall and about 160 lbs (well-muscled, but not frighteningly so). I have
dark green eyes and am VERY blonde...well naturally, but right now my hair
is a deep shade of red. I have never been one to let reality get in my
way! I am half Irish and now I look the part. My skin is pale ( though
not from lack of sun exposure! I'm from California for crying out loud!)
and lightly freckled. Now, back to the story before I start sounding REALLY
vain!
I would have to say, that out of all of the Boys, Howie has always
been the one I found most attractive. Kevin and I have way too much in
common, Nick is too young and immature, AJ too insane (I'm crazy enough for
three people, I don't need anymore dementia), and Brian just isn't my type.
Howie, though, appears sweet, well-mannered, mature, and quiet. These are
the qualities that I usually look for in a man, but there was very little
chance of a meeting between Sweet D and myself. I would never have
imagined how important a part he and the rest of the guys would soon have
in my life.

**Chapter One: Damn College Sucks!**

Right now, I am a senior at UOP (University of the Pacific) in
California and am about to lose my mind. We are in the middle of mid-terms
and the severe lack of anything resembling sleep is starting to fry my
nerves. I had three tests this week and four papers due. My profs have
been running me ragged lately. Okay, don't tell anyone, but I actually
appreciate how hard they are working me. It will really help when I go out
to find a job after I graduate from the flaming pit of Hell here. However,
just because I say that I appreciate the workload, does not mean that I
have to enjoy it. I am burning out (you other college students can
understand where I'm coming from) and when it finally happens, things are
going to get ugly! **The Meeting
It was about 8 p.m. and raining lightly. I had just finished my
last test of the week and was going home to eat and then slip into a coma
for a few days. Since I no longer live on campus anymore, I have to walk
across campus and down a few streets to get to my apartment. As I was
within a block of my place, I noticed a limo parked on the side of the road
with its hazard lights blinking. When I saw that the driver was out with
the hood up trying to get the car running again, I walked over to see if I
could help the poor guy out. As I approached the car, one of the occupants
opened a window and, in a deep voice, said that he needed to speak to the
driver. The voice sounded oddly familiar, but I couldn't place it. I
stood close by and listened to the conversation, waiting for a natural
break. What I heard began to explain why that voice sounded so
recognizable.
"No, Mr. Richardson, I am not going to be able to get the car
running again by myself. We need to get a tow truck over here and another
limo to take you guys to a hotel for the night," explained the driver.
"Thanks, Chuck, but we have a slight problem," the occupant said,
"there is some sort of big conference or convention here right now and all
of the hotels are booked solid for the weekend. Also, none of the limo
companies will be able to get another car out until at least the morning.
I called around to check. They are all much too busy tonight."
"Damn! What are we going to do?" Chuck asked, exasperated.
It was here that I spoke. Breaking the uneasy silence that had
begun to permeate the vehicle. "You can stay with me," I said, startling
the driver and making "Mr. Richardson" bust out laughing.
The door of the limo opened and a tall, dark-haired man stepped
out, followed by four other young men. He walked over to me and began to
introduce himself and his companions. "Hello, my name is Kevin Richardson,
this is my cousin Brian Littrell, the blonde over there is Nick Carter,
next to him we have--".
"--the outrageous AJ McLean and the ever gentlemanly Howie
Dorough," I finished for him as my brain finally registered who they were.
"By the way, my name is Doug McCarver." Kevin seemed a bit surprised and
confused after I said that, and my mind made the connection as to why.
"What? Were you expecting me to start jumping around and screaming
'Howie I want to have your baby' when I realized who you were?" I asked
with a smirk. I did not fail to notice Howie's eyes light up and his smile
when I said that. 'Hmmm...there may be something there,' I thought quickly
to myself, ' and he is my type.'
Kevin smiled and blushed as he replied, "Well, yeah...kinda. No
offense to you or anything, but that does happen to us a lot. I guess that
I've just come to expect it."
"Don't worry about offending me, Kevin. It's nearly impossible."
"Awwwww, look at Kev blush," crowed AJ, "ain't it cute?" he asked
as he pinched Kevin's cheeks hard.
"Ow! Damn it AJ, you are such a dick! That hurt!" Kevin yelled
as the other guys and I all started laughing.
"Well, getting back to what I was saying," I broke in still
chuckling, "you guys can stay at my place for the weekend. My roommates
are on a two-week camping trip in the Sierras, so y'all can use their rooms
if you want."
"Hold on. Before we even discuss any of this, you are going to
have to tell us about yourself. I mean, you could be a serial killer or
talk show host or something," Brian said while unsuccessfully trying to
hide the fact that he was snickering.
"Okay," I replied, "As I already said, my name is Doug McCarver. I
am a 21-year-old Senior English major at UOP. I have a 3.78 GPA and clean
criminal and driving records. My family lives about 20 minutes south of
here in Modesto. I have two sisters, Michelle and Elizabeth, aged 18 and
15 respectively. I also own two pets, a pug named Kina and a cat named
Bitch Monster. We usually just call her Monster, though. It's a whole lot
easier when your yelling!"
"Bitch Monster?" Nick asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Just wait until you meet her, you'll quickly see where she got the
name from!"
"But we don't want to inconvenience you any," Howie said while
staring intently at the asphalt, "and--."
I cut him off, trying not to stare at him too much, "Don't worry
about it. I have plenty of room and food. Plus, I would...enjoy the
company." He finally looked up at me and smiled brightly.
Kevin glanced at the other guys before speaking, "Give us a few
minutes to discuss it, and then we'll give you our answer." I nodded and
they got back in the limo so that they could talk privately. While they
were inside, I pulled out my paper for Composition, stood under my umbrella
to keep the pages away from the sprinkling, and commenced editing the damn
thing.

**Chapter Two: The Towel Incident**

**Inside the limo
(For this conversation, I will be using just the first letters of the Boys'
names to signify who is currently talking.)
N: "So what do you guys think of Doug?"
B: "He seems really nice and down-to-earth."
A: "Yeah! Did you see how he reacted when he realized who we were? He
didn't care!"
K: "I know. I feel so embarrassed at how I acted."
H: "Don't worry about it Kevin. He said it was okay, didn't he? Anyway,
he doesn't seem like the type of person to get pissed off over something
like that."
A: "Defending him already, D? You must really like him. <snicker>"
H: "Huh? What in the hell are you talking about, Bone? I just met him!"
K: "Please, Howie, you were staring at him--"
H: "I was not!"
K: "--as much as he was staring at you."
H: "...what?"
N: "He likes you, D. How did you not see that?"
B: "Yeah, didn't you notice how he looked right at you when he said he
would "enjoy" the company? Damn, Howie, he's attracted to you!"
H: "Okay, okay! I'll admit it...he's cute and I would like to get to know
him better given the chance. But, we don't even know if he's gay and that
IS kinda important."
N: "Just ask him, he might surprise you."
K: "So I take it that we're going to stay with him this weekend?"
All: "Yes!!!"
**Outside the limo
They were in there for about ten minutes before they again climbed
out of the derelict vehicle. By the looks on their faces, especially
Howie's, the discussion seemed to have gone rather well. I smiled
inwardly.
"Doug," Kevin started, "we've discussed it and decided that we
would be happy to stay with you this weekend." This with a significant
glance at Howie. 'Strange. I wonder what's going on there," I mused. I
responded to this in a very calm manner which seemed to take ALL of them
aback. I managed to keep the laughter confined to the insides of my head
this time. "That's great! I only live about a block away, so let's grab
your luggage and we can walk there."
Nick cheered and did a little dance on the side of the road (I
swear he can act like a 5- year-old. But it was funny.) and the Boys went
to grab their bags. Howie had more than he could carry and I offered to
help. He protested, but gave in when I explained that if I didn't lend a
hand, we would be forced to make another trip back to the limo. Chuck was
staying there to wait for the tow truck. By now, the rain had completely
stopped and we were at my place in a few minutes. I opened the door, but
as I went to turn on the light, I was taken down at the knees by a
fast-moving bundle of canine.
"Damn Kina, couldn't you have waited til I set this stuff down?" I
asked, groaning, after she knocked me down and I landed, rather painfully,
on one of Howie's suitcases.
"Are you okay dude?" Howie asked while chuckling blatantly.
"Ohh...I see how you are. Laughing at my pain. You suck!" I
retorted with a mock-pissed face. At this, the rest of the guys burst out
laughing and Howie blushed a deep crimson.
AJ was laughing so hard that he was on the floor clutching his
sides. But, he did manage to gasp out, "Man...you have...no idea!" before
succumbing to another bout of hysterical giggling. I just stared at him,
much too tired to make the connection. Deciding to ignore him, I returned
to the matter at hand.
"Well guys, four of you can share the two king-sized beds in the
other bedrooms and the last can have mine. I'll sleep on the floor." A
short bit of arguing erupted, but it was soon agreed that Nick and Brian
would take one bedroom, while Kevin and AJ would take the other. Howie got
"stuck" with me, or so I thought. I was secretly pleased at this turn of
events.
"You can get more pillows and blankets out of the hall closet if
you need them and each room has its own bathroom. Oh yeah! Feel free to
raid the 'fridge and cupboards to your hearts' content. My home is
completely open to you. I'm sorry, but right now I HAVE to go to bed
before I pass out!"
They all said their thanks and that they were turning in as well.
It was fairly obvious that they were all exhausted. Going down the hall,
they went to their respective bedrooms and closed the doors behind
themselves. Howie and I moved his stuff to my room and I began to make my
bed on the floor. Howie looked at what I was doing, steeled himself, and
spoke.
"You don't have to do that."
"Huh? Don't have to do what?"
"Sleep on the floor. I mean, it is your apartment. I'll take the
floor."
"That's sweet, Howie, but no. You are my guest and I will not have
you sleeping anywhere but on a bed!"
"Fine. Let's compromise. Neither of us wants the other to sleep
on the floor, so we'll both take the bed," the shock was quite visible on
my face at this point, "Is that alright with you?"
"Yeah, I'm alright with it as long as you are," I returned in a
questioning tone.
"If I wasn't, I wouldn't have suggested it in the first place," he
answered as he turned his back to me to rummage through a suitcase,
"Besides, it's not like you're going to ravage me in the night or
anything." 'Not that that would be a bad thing' we both mumbled, too
softly to be heard.
I then proceeded to walk into the bathroom, brush my teeth and hop
in the shower. After washing and allowing the warm water to relax away
some of the fatigue and tension from my tired body, I got out and dried
myself off. I wrapped the towel around my waist and stepped back into the
bedroom. As I did so, Howie walked by to get ready for bed. He lightly
brushed me as he went past and managed to catch the zipper of his shaving
bag on my towel. It would have come off had I not noticed and grabbed it
just in time. This act pulled Howie up short. He turned and looked at me
questioningly.
"Howie, I know you want to shower, but you'll have to get your own.
I'm not finished with this towel yet, so you can't have it, " I laughed
while pointing down toward our predicament. As he looked down, he began to
blush hotly. Then he spoke, barely managing to stammer out an apology.
"I...I...I'm s-so sorry, Doug," he stuttered in little more than a
whisper.
"Don't worry about it," I assured him while disengaging us from one
another, "Just don't let it happen again, or you may see more of me than
you ever wanted to!"
This just caused him to flush more fiercely and he hurried into the
bathroom. A few minutes later, the sounds of the shower were audible. I
chuckled privately to myself, then put on a clean T-shirt and boxers,
turned out the lights and climbed under the covers. I left the dresser
lamp on for Howie.
Soon enough, I heard the shower shut off and the sound of the
bathroom door opening. He quietly went over to his bags and moved things
around looking for something. After a minute, the last light was
extinguished and he gently got into bed. I was just conscious enough to
mumble a goodnight and he did the same. In moments, we were both sound
asleep.
That night I spent in a deep and dreamless slumber, not waking
until the alarm clock went off late the next morning. I didn't even
remember setting the damn thing! When I tried to roll over and turn it
off, I found that I couldn't move. After a few moments of clearing the
sleep from my brain, I realized why. Sometime during the night, Howie and
I had ended up spooning together, and his arm was now holding me tightly to
his decidedly unclothed body. Moving a bit, I had another realization.
Something very hard and VERY big was poking me in the back...
