Now that's out of the way. This story appeared in my head when I was
trapped in the car with my relatives for a 24-hour road trip. I was really
really bored! I shudder just thinking about that trip. Anyway, if your
below legal age to read this where your from, then all I can tell you is
stop and don't let your parents catch you. He he that's not much of a
warning, but hey what else can I do.

Now if you have any comments, feedback or you just want to drop a

I must apologize for last chapter. I read back over it after I posted it
and discovered a lot of mistakes. That's what I get for trying to edit a
chapter and watch TV at the same time. Anyway, ignore those mistakes and
try to just read past them. I'll try and not do it again. :)

Chapter 6

The hobbits slashed at the creature's tentacles with their sharp little
swords. The rest of the Fellowship had more strength behind their blows and
hacked off whole parts of a tentacle that came within reach.

The tentacles that held Frodo were hacked off, but others sprung up from
the dark recesses of the water and ensnared Frodo once again. He was lifted
high in the air by the many tentacles. His whole body was swinging like a
tiny rag doll.

"Strider!" Frodo screamed desperately.

Legolas was shooting a continuous stream of arrows at the creature from the
waters edge. Justin, Aragorn, and Boromir entered the water and cut at the
tentacles that held Frodo at their base. Aragorn cut off the tentacle
holding Frodo.

With a short cry the little hobbit fell from the air. Boromir caught him
before he impacted the water's surface.

"Into the mines!" Shouted Gandalf.

"Come on Legolas!" said Justin pulling at the Elf's arm. Legolas was still
trying to shoot arrows at the creature, while everyone else was running
into the mines for safety. Together Legolas and Justin was the last to
enter the mine. The creature gave a loud screeching sound and came out of
the water.

The creature however had used the rocks above the door to latch on to. The
rocks were not strong enough to support its weight. With a loud boom the
walls around the door crumbled down, blocking the exit out and the light.

Breathing heavily Justin looked at the blocked entrance and then the
fellowship. Everyone wore a look of supreme unhappiness. "Look on the
bright side we're all alive. We just happen to be stuck inside the cellar
of some evil villain from an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Gandalf shook his head and sighed not seeing the humor in Justin's attempt
to lighten the mood. His attempt failed since they didn't know what he was
even talking about. "We now have but one choice," He banged the end of his
staff on the ground producing light from the stone fixed on the top of it.

"We must face the long dark of Moria. Be on your guard. There are older and
fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world. Quietly now. It's
a four-day journey to the other side. Let us hope that our presence may go
unnoticed."

They followed behind the wizard since he has been in the mines before. As
they were walking Justin looked at Legolas and noticed something was
off. His face usually was a mask of blankness, but right now it was as if
his eyes were a bit dimmer.

"What's the matter Legolas?"

He sighed. "Elves don't like to be away from the trees. I feel so
disconnected from them."

Gimli overhead their conversation. "Or it could be that all Elves are just
afraid of the dark," he chuckled.

Legolas narrowed his eyes a little slightly and was about to retort, but
was stopped by a hand on his shoulder. He looked into Justin's ocean blue
eyes. "He's just teasing Las." Legolas's heart almost stopped beating as he
heard the shorten version of his name slip from the hybrids mouth. Justin
didn't seem to notice the Freudian slip.

"Don't get mad," He glanced around the room and shook a little as a
tingling feeling of coldness that traveled down his spine. "I get the
feeling that if you start a argument you will wake whatever it is that
killed all the Dwarves."

He took Justin's hand from his shoulder and squeezed it within his
own. Justin felt a surge of courage swell within him when the Elf didn't
let go of his hand. Getting lost within the moment he took his other hand
and caressed the side of Legolas's cheek softly.

Legolas smiled then it slipped somewhat as a nagging voice entered his
thoughts. "What about Boromir?"

Justin frowned. "I've been meaning to ask you. Why do you keep bringing him
up?"

"Is he not the one who holds your heart?" asked Legolas.

Justin nodded. "Yeah he does. But all of my friends hold a place in my
heart."

Legolas eyes widened. "So you and him are not together."

Justin suddenly had a coughing fit. He calmed down and grinned at the
Elf. "Don't get me wrong I like Boromir, but he is just a friend and will
always be one."

Legolas smiled shyly, "Then will you do me the honor of letting me kiss
you?"

Justin blushed and nodded bashfully, all words seemingly having escaped him
at the moment. They leaned towards each other and tilted their heads. Their
lips connected and they gasped softly as they felt their stomachs flip
flop. Justin groaned as the sensation from kissing the Elf overrode his
very mind.

A short cough interrupted their kiss. They looked up to see the rest of the
Fellowship standing a little ways ahead of them. They blushed slightly but
never released their hold on the other's hand.

"By the Valor! I thought you would never get together!" Gimli kidded.

Boromir scoffed. He glared mockingly at the Elf. "How could you think me
and him were together," He couldn't hold of the grin from his face any
longer. "I can do a lot better than that!"

"Oh please Boromir! We all know the last person you were together with was
an Orc," Justin countered unable to wipe the smile of happiness from his
face.

They laughed at the joke. Boromir rolled his eyes and grinned good
naturally. "Ha ha ha..." He adopted a serious expression. "I just want you
to know that I wish you both congratulations."

Legolas smiled happy that his love's friend accepted them. "Thank you
Boromir."

**********

They settled down a couple of hours later to get some sleep. Justin smiled
as he saw the spot Legolas cleared next to where he sat his own blanket. He
approached the blonde and put his hands on his hips.

He put on a stern look on his face. He failed to play it off since he kept
grinning. "I'm warning you any below the belt stuff and I will be forced to
open up a can of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Legolas smiled but there was a touch of confusion in his eyes. "What is a
can? And why will you be forced to open it. Is it some kind of weapon
against the Dragon you mentioned?"

Justin didn't know whether to laugh outright in his face or kiss him
senseless for looking so adorably confused. He settled for the latter. He
plopped down and kissed any sort of coherent thoughts from both their
minds.

He leaned back and looked into Legolas's eyes. His eyes were glazed over
and an expression of ecstasy was pasted on his face.

"Goodnight," said Justin laying down and closing his eyes.

Legolas snapped out of his daze state. He glared down at Justin. 'The
little fox is actually pretending to be asleep. Two can play that game.'

He laid down and closed his eyes with a little smile on his face. Justin
cracked open an eye and sat up. He looked over to Legolas 'sleeping'
form. He shook his shoulder to wake him up. The Elf didn't so much as move.

If Justin were thinking correctly he would have noticed that the Elf had a
smile on his face. And that his eyes were closed. He had been told at the
beginning of the trip that Elves didn't need to sleep with their eyes
closed. They usually kept their eyes open and they entered into a state of
meditation.

Justin poked his shoulder. "Las, are you woke?"

Legolas pretended to wake up. "I am now."

Justin eyes narrowed. "You did that on purpose didn't you."

He shrugged. "I do not know what you're talking about. I was merely
sleeping."

Justin stopped glaring and smiled innocently. "I'm sorry kissing you
senseless and then just going to sleep. Can I have another kiss." He made
his eyes real big and watery.

Legolas believed his innocent expression. "Of course. Don't be sad."

Justin beamed. 'Score!' he thought leaning forward and claiming his prize.

Pippin groaned loudly from where he lay. "Come on you guys. I can actually
hear you kissing! Some of us want to try and sleep!"

They broke apart their eyes bright with laughter. They laid back down with
Justin's back pressed into Legoas's chest and the blondes arms wrapped
around his waist.

'Perfect,' they unknowingly thought at precisely the same time.

*************

It was their third day within the mines and they were soon approaching the
exit. After walking a bit the group came to an opening that had three
passages.

Gandalf stopped and rubbed his beard. "I have no memory of this place."

"Are we lost?" asked Pippin.

"No," answered Merry.

"I think we are?" he replied.

"Shhh...Gandalf's thinking," said Merry.

"Merry?"

"What?"

"I'm hungry,"

Justin's head went back and forward between the two hobbits. It was like
watching a tennis match. The two hobbits always had some kind of comeback
for some witty remark one would make. It was a constant source of amusement
listening to them argue on about something.

Frodo glanced over the edge of the cliff and gasped. "Gandalf! Gollum is
here."

Gandalf nodded. "I know. He has been following us for three days."

"He escaped the dungeons of Barad-dûr?"

"Or set loose. He hates and loves the Ring. As he hates and loves
himself. He will never be rid of his need for it"

Frodo shook his head and adopted a bitter expression. "It's a pity Bilbo
didn't kill him when he had the chance."

"Is Gollum the one who found the ring after Isiludur?" Justin asked.

"Yes. Gollum was once a hobbit like creature. But the power of the ring
twisted and warped his mind. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to
play yet, for good or ill, before this is over."

Frodo looked down at the ring from where it lay on the chain around his
neck. "I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had ever
happened."

Gandalf shook his head. "So do all that come to see such times, but that is
not for them to decide." He stared at Frodo with the expression of a
sympathic parent. "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that
is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo,
besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case
you were also 'meant' to have it."

"And that is an encouraging thought. Eh - it's that way." He pointed to one
of the three passageways.

"Ah... Gandalf's remembered," said Merry.

Gandalf smiled and turned around with his eyes twinkling in humor. "No, but
the air doesn't smell so foul down here. If in doubt, Meriadoc, always
follow your nose."

***********

"Let me risk a little more light." Gandalf said making the light on the end
of his staff glow brighter in the process.

The light flooded out from the stone and chased away the dark shadows from
the walls. They found themselves standing in a long corridor with giant
stone pillars going on as far as they could see.

"Behold the great realm of the Dwarf-city of Dwarrowdelf," the wizard said
gesturing with his arm.

They walked further on down the hall and came upon an open doorway. In it
they could see the dead rotting bodies of Orcs. Before they could say a
word Gimli ran away from them and into the room.

"Gimli!" Aragorn called.

They followed him into the room. The room was massive and in the middle
stood a large stone tomb. A light shined down from the wall and shined
light down on the stone tomb. Gimli was on his knees in front of the tomb
muttering Balin over and over again.

Justin felt his throat tighten up as he realized this was the cousin Gimli
kept bragging about. This must be his tomb.

Gandalf walked in front of the tomb and read the words inscribed on its
surface. "Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria." He is dead
then. It's as I feared."

He took off his hat and gave it to Pippin along with his staff. He walked
over to a body of a dwarf. It was clutching a thick ancient volume in its
dead hands. Gandalf opened the book and began to read.

"They have taken the bridge and the second hall. We have barred the gates
but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes. Drums, drums in the
deep. We cannot get out. A Shadow moves in the dark. We cannot get
out. They are coming."

He looked up and everyone paled as they realized that whatever the Dwarves
awoke was something more dangerous than even Orcs.

Pippin touches a skeleton by a well in a corner of the room. The skeleton
falls into the well, dragging with it a bucket making too much noise.

Gandalf rounded angrily on the hobbit. "Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in
next time, and rid us of your stupidity."

Drumbeats are heard echoing off the chamber walls. Justin glances at Frodo
and gasps as he sees Sting glowing blue. Sting was the sword Bilbo gave
Frodo in Rivendell. The sword only glows when Orcs are near.

Everyone looked at Frodo's sword and in silent agreement they each pulled
out their own weapons. Boromir hurriedly shut the door and placed a thick
piece of wood in its metal hooks attached to the back of each door. It
would only hold them off for so long.

Justin's pulled out his sword and hurriedly turned to Legolas. They shared
a look that spoke of all the feelings they held for each other. There was
also a message within it. It said you better make it through this alive.

Suddenly a loud pounding on the doors forced them to take on defensive
stances. Gandalf bowed his head and sent a silent prayer. 'May Iluvatar be
with us.'
