Here's to the Night-Chapter 1
By Mel
2001

Here's to the nights we felt alive
Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry.
Here's to goodbye.
Tomorrow's gonna come too soon. -Eve 6

    1601

He wrapped his coat around him, his eyes searching for
prey. The new city that had sprung up on the water was
teeming with people, but he wanted to wait. \
   Wait for the right one. His green eyes flashed, the
hunger inside him growing.
    He hunted alone, prefering it. His eyes narrowed.
His cousin was out again tonight. Damn. He didnt want
to run into him, not when he was still mortal.
  He knew he would have to turn him soon, just not
quite yet. A flash of blond caught his eye. The boy.
    He moved closer, knowing that his interest was not
helping him any. He fought his attraction to him,
knowing that the boy was too young to damn him to this
kind of life.
   But still he hungered. Not for food, not something
as ordinary as that, more like hungering for a life he
had left far behind him.
    He was so intent on the boy, he didnt see the dark
shape approching him from behind. "See something you
like?" The husky voice drawled softly. The man in
black turned around sharply. He could feel his teeth
start to lengthen. He looked the boy-man up and down.
He would do, yes he would do nicely.
   "Now I have."

  Alexander woke hours later, his mind groggy and his
body strangely weak. He remembered the man with the
bright green eyes and the hard body. His eyes widened
as he remembered everything in a flash. His body, too
weak still to move, curled up in a ball.
   "You have a choice." The voice was smooth, gliding
over him like silk. The fear left him and using all
the strength he had, he sat up, leaning against the
tree. It was deep night now, people gone, the moon
high in the sky.
  "A choice?"
   "To live or to die. It is not as easy as you might
think." Alexander blinked as the man moved closer. His
eyes flashed in recognition.
  "You!.. a vampire..." his words trailed off as he
stared at the man in front of him. Curiously, his
fright had fled, instead a heat started to curl in the
pit of his stomache.
   A fleeting smile crossed the older man's face. Then
it was gone. "you dont have much time, your body grows
weak. If you choose life, it will be a dark life,
remember that." Alex almost thought he looked wistful.
Then the look was gone as suddenly as it came.
    To him the choice was simple. He didnt want to
die. "Life." No sooner were the words out of his
mouth, when a wrist was presented to him, a trickle of
blood running down the length of it.
   "Drink."
    He lowered his lips and the choice was fulfilled.

    He knew something was different. He didnt know how
he knew, he just knew. Like a step had been taken,
another link in the circle had been made. He shivered
under the hot sun.
   Brian slipped down to the water, watching the moss
hang over the trees. Suddenly he wished they hadnt
come here.
    "You know the choice is going to be out of your
hands." Brian saw him standing in the deep shadow of
the tree. He was surprised. Kevin didnt take chances
like these normally. He took a deep breath, then
looked at his cousin.
  "I know. I am surprised you havent turned me by
now."
   "I wont turn you, I know that now."
   "What in the hell do you mean by that?" Brian
asked, moving closer. Fear mingled with excitement.
  "Your lover will." That is when Brian saw that Kevin
was not alone.
   Alex. Dear God. "What have you done?" he whispered,
sinking to his knees. Alexander, keeping to the
shadows, approached him.
  "I am sorry. I saw Kevin last night, not knowing who
he was." understanding dawned in Brian's eyes.
  "Why?" Alex shook his head. The truth is he didnt
know why, he had been compelled.
  "I dont know, it just seemed meant to be." Brian
wanted to scream. Not this way, please, not this way.
   "Yes, this way." Kevin said, reading his cousins
mind. Brian didnt even look at him.
 "No!"
   "Yes."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The mansion, tucked away in the Louisiana bayou,
was dark. The only light came from the moon. The boy
crept closer, wanting a better look. He had always
been facinated with the old place, even more so when
THEY moved in.
   Something about them called to him, and he just
couldnt resist.
     He thought he saw a flicker of movement, and
stopped, his heart beating furiously in his chest. But
he wasnt scared to get caught,  no it was more in
anticipation. "You shouldnt be here you know." He
jumped, shrieking. The voice chuckled.
   "I am sorry, sir, just looking.. I'll leave now."
He stuttered, trying to ease away slowly.
  "How old are you, boy?" The voice was smooth, almost
hypnotic, and he found himself not moving.
  "18" He tried to see into the shadows, trying to see
who it was that was talking with him, to no avail.
   "Young." Nickolas found himself standing taller.
  "Old enough." The voice chuckled again.
  "You think so? you are never old enough." Then, as
the man started to move toward him, Nickolas finally
got a glimps. Dear god. He was beautiful, dark and all
muscle. Heat rushed through his body, but he found he
couldnt move.
   Kevin reached out a hand before he could stop
himself, and brushed  Nickolas' cheek with his hand.
His eyes grew greener as the boy shuddered. "You
shouldnt have come here, there is no turning back now,
you know that dont you?" Kevin asked, his hand
dropping down to the delicious curve of Nickolas'
neck.
   "I...I.." Nickolas couldnt speak. He felt himself
get lost in the green eyes of this man. Kevin moved
closer. He kept a tight rein on his emotions, letting
the seduction unfold. He watched Nickolas' body react
to his touch, the pulse at the base of his throat, the
clenched hands... and the rock hard erection in his
pants.
   Kevin licked his lips.
The heavy drapes kept the sun out, kept them safe.
Brian, pacing back and forth, kept his eye on the
clock, waiting for the sun to set. He was hungry, and
he could feel the pulse of the city in his blood.
Almost time to feed.
  Alexander watched from his chair against the wall.
Brian still hadnt forgivin him, but Alex had all the
time in the world. He knew Brian couldnt last much
longer. Brian needed Alex like he now needed blood. To
live.
     "Impatient arent we?" a voice drawled from the
archway, and Brian glanced up.
  "shut up, cousin dear." He said sarcastically. Kevin
raised an eyebrow, then raised his hand. Both Brian
and Alex watched as a tall blond was ushered into the
room. Both felt the change in the air. One more link
had been made. Nick looked up at Kevin, his blue eyes
bright.
   "Yes, Nickolas, we feel it too." Kevin said
quietly. Nick looked back at the two other men who
came toward him. Alex looked him up and down.
   "Welcome." Nick nodded. Something about him made
Nick pause. The potent sexuality of this man was
apparent in every move he made.
    Brian, looked the newcomer up and down. "Your
Kevin's Mate... you will fit in just fine." and he
flashed him a grin. Suddenly, Nick felt like he fit.
He relaxed.
   "I am Brian, the man you just met is Alex." Brian
paused, coming to stand next to Alex. "My Mate." Nick
smirked. That surprised him.
    Kevin cleared his throat. "Sundown. Time to feed."
He neglected to tell the others one thing. Nick was
going to find the last person they needed. And bring
him in to the fold. Tonight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Howard could feel eyes watching him. He walked down
the empty street, trying to keep himself steady on his
feet. He took another swallow from the bottle, keeping
his eyes on the road.
   He still could feel the pain, the alchol not having
any real affect on his aching heart. Now, to make
things worse, the heavyness in the air was turning him
on.
    "Dammit" he muttered, tripping over his feet and
landing on his ass.
    "Need help?" Howard looked up into the bluest eyes
he'd ever seen. He grabbed the hand, and let the
young man pull him up.
   "Thanks." Nick licked his lips and grinned. Howard
felt a pull in his groin. Instant lust. Well why the
hell not? he thought. He had nothing left to lose.
   He was wrong.
 Nick pressed his body against Howard's, licking down
the side of his face, down to his neck. He could feel
the blood pound in his ears. Howard's blood. One hand
was down Howard's pants, jacking him slowly. Howard
moaned, hips thrusting hard. He never felt the teeth
hit his throat.
   Nick fed.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   And so the circle was completed, Kevin thought,
getting comfortable on the big bed. The house was so
protected that he never bothered with coffins. He
smiled, besides, the bed was much nicer.
 The door opened and Kevin looked up. "is he resting?"
he asked, watching Nick amble toward him, a smudge of
blood still on his full lower lip.
   "Yes, He fed well. So did I." Kevin smiled, and
Nick lay down beside him, streatching out his body.
Kevin ran a hand down Nick's face and brought it
towards his own.
   "You did well, my mate." He whispered, flicking out
his tongue to lick the last of Howard's blood off of
Nick's lip. Nick moaned softly.
   "I learn fast." Nick gasped out, his body humming
with heat as Kevin started to lick his chin, then his
neck, then finally to his aching nipples.
  "Yes, you do.. and you will be rewarded." Nick
arched, as Kevin bit one, then the other nipple
softly.
   "Please...Please.." Nick begged softly. Kevin
hummed against a nipple. Electricity shot through
Nick. Oh god. More than he had ever dreamed, hoped
for. He whimpered. Kevin moved down, down.
    Nick screamed. Begged, pleaded. And was rewarded.
Handsomely.
  The sun got higher and higher. The house slept.
Still the sun rose higher. Then started to sink into
the west. Slowly the house awoke. Tonight they would
celebrate.
  Celebrate the closure of the circle. Celebrate the
beginning of their life together. A long, very long
life.
   It would be a life filled with excess, and loss.
Passion and Love. And fame. For this was the
beginning. The very beginning of a group that woul be
known as The Backstreet Boys...tbc...
