IF I LET YOU GO (PART VI) Author: Jay Cee

"Shit Mark, I really don't know what to say, it's all a bit of a bombshell
really. I had a feeling there might be someone in your life. You have been
acting a little strange lately. I would have never guessed that that someone
was Kian though."

"I can't stop thinking about him Shane, I want to be close to him all the
time. I need someone to be with, and right now he's the one, but he doesn't
feel the same way, I just know it."

"I don't think that you'll like what I'm about to say Mark, but I'm going to
say it anyway. Maybe Kian not being interested isn't such a bad thing..."

"What? What are you saying Shane?"

"Just listen to me, okay? What happens if it all doesn't work out, what
then? You get involved with him, things go wrong, you break up. That's fine
for everyone else Mark. But for us, as a group? What then, huh? We
practically live together 24 hours a day. You'd have to be around each other
all the time..."

"I can't believe I'm hearing this."

"For fuck's sake Mark, think about the consequences. If you two hit it off,
then I couldn't be happier for you. But the way things are, it's just not a
good idea..."

Mark didn't bother hanging around to listen to Shane's preaching. He stormed
off into the forest, upset that Shane hadn't tried to comfort him, but
instead had criticised him for falling for Kian in the first place. Mark
couldn't help thinking with his heart.

"Mark, wait up!"

Shane tried to catch up to Mark, but hearing Shane's plea in the distance
just made Mark walk faster, eventually breaking into a jog.

"Mark! Mark...."

Shane's cries were barely audible, and eventually stopped altogether. Mark
stopped walking, sitting down on a log that lay at the base of a huge oak
tree, deep in the forest. He held his head in his hands, his long fingers
covering his eyes, as tears welled up inside them. "What am I going to do?"
he said softly to himself.

He looked up, and noticed that it was getting dark, the light starting to
fade through the trees. "I better get back," he thought to himself, despite
his longing to be alone. Standing up, he examined his surroundings...

"Which way did I come from again?"

Nicky looked at Bryan, desperately trying to think of something to say.

"Well, what are you hiding Nicky?" Bryan asked again.

"Nothing. At least nothing that you should be concerned about." Nicky turned
to the window, staring blankly at the darkening skies outside.

"What? I shouldn't worry about the fact that you're about to dump Georgina?"

"No you shouldn't! In fact, what right do you think you have to just come in
here and start reading my letters? Huh?"

Bryan looked down at the floor, not knowing quite what to say. He had to
admit, Nicky was right.

"I'm sorry Nicky, I know I shouldn't have..."

"You're fuckin' right you shouldn't have."

"But it doesn't change what's written here, does it?"

Nicky let out a heavy sigh and closed his eyes, willing Bryan to just go
away and leave him alone.

"I don't want to talk about it Bryan, okay? Don't you get it? Just leave me
be, please?"

"If there's someone else, just tell me who it is?"

Nicky propped himself up on the bed, turning to Bryan. "You know if I had a
problem, I'd come to you."

"Yes, but..."

"Okay, so if and when I need your help, that's when I'll come and ask you
for it. Right now I'd rather just be left alone, if that's okay?"

"Alright then, if you need me..."

"Thanks Bryan."

Bryan heard the door down the hall creak open, Kian appearing, slightly
disheveled after an afternoon nap.

"Have Mark and Shane come back yet Bryan?" Kian asked, trying to mask his
concern.

"No, I don't think they have, but they shouldn't be long, it's starting to
get a bit dark outside."

Kian left his room, went downstairs, and looked out the hall window at the
green expanse that surrounded the house. The cool wind was beginning to blow
in, and the field outside remained deserted. Kian was concerned, and decide
to go out and wait.

Sitting outside, the chill of the air making his body tremble, Kian couldn't
stop worrying about Mark and Shane, although especially about Mark. The sky
above had already turned a dark shade of blue, the moon hanging high in the
east, and the stars were already visible. Kian worried about what was
happening with him and Mark. Mark was confused about how Kian felt for him,
though Kian thought that the way he felt now, not knowing where Mark was or
if he was safe, meant that he did feel something for him.

"I've known a lot of guys," Kian thought to himself, "but none quite like
Mark." None of the others had given a damn about him, he was just another
fuck for them, a prize catch because of his celebrity status. But he and
Mark were alike, they knew and understood what each other were going through
as a result of being in Westlife.

A figure began to appear in the distance. Kian couldn't make out who it was
in the fading light, but it didn't appear to be tall enough to be Mark. He
got up and walked out into the field, and saw that it was in fact Shane.

"Where's Mark? Why isn't he with you Shane?"

"You mean he hasn't come back yet? Oh shit."

"He's going to freeze to death... All he's wearing is a pair of shorts and a
t shirt."

"We better go out and look for him Kian, he might be lost. I'll go inside
and get the others and some lights. Come inside too, you'll freeze if you go
out in those clothes."

"Shane, why didn't the two of you come back together? Did you two have a
fight or something? How the fuck did he end up getting lost? Well?"

"We don't have time for this now Kian, we have to go out and find him, and
soon, before there's no light left at all."

Shane and Kian rushed inside, finding Bryan stuck on the sofa lazily
watching MTV. Shane stopped to tell him of the situation, while Kian leapt
up the stairs to get some clothes and torches for the search.

"Look guys, it's our new video. They just premiered it now. Cool huh? Hey,
where's Mark gone Shane?" Bryan said, getting up off the sofa.

"I dunno, he's lost in the forest I think, you have to help Kian and me find
him. Where's Nicky?"

"Upstairs in his room. I don't think he's feeling too well though."

"That doesn't matter, we'll need his help."

Kian was upstairs, heading back out after fetching the things, when he
popped his head into Nicky's room.

"Nicky? You awake."

"Uhhh..."

"Get up then, Shane's lost Mark and we have to go find him."

"What d'ya mean 'lost Mark'? How could he lose Mark?"

"I dunno, just get up will ya?" Kian may have said that he didn't know why
Mark and Shane had become separated, but he had his suspicions.

"Okay, just let me get me shoes on, I'll be right there."

Kian ran down the stairs, Nicky following not far behind.

"Okay," Shane said, the sound of worry in his voice, "when we get to the
forest, we'll split up into two groups, Nicky and I will head upstream, and
Kian and Bryan, you two go downstream. If we keep to the stream we won't get
lost as well. I hope he's staying in the one spot, otherwise it'll make
finding him difficult.

The four guys went outside, confronted by the darkness of night that had
suddenly fallen. They switched on their torches, and headed to the forest.
