Hi, just a quick note to say that so far, this story has been entirely from
Kevin's point of view, and as of this chapter we're gonna see some stuff
that happens when Kevin's not in the room. Oooh, can you bear the
anticipation?!!! Oh, and I just wanna give a big shout out to my new
friend Dara Lynn, who I absolutely love. Go read No Painless Way (after
you've finished this!) cos it rules!

Chapter 6

"You know, you'd be able to practise a lot better if you weren't staring at
Nick's butt the whole time." AJ whispered into Kevin's ear as they
finished practising 'Backstreet's Back. "Hell, you might even get the
dance routine right."

"Bite me." Kevin answered dully. He walked away, leaving AJ standing
there, smirking.

"Is that an invite, Kev?" AJ called after him. Just ignore him, Kevin
told himself. He'll soon get bored.

"Hey Kevin." Nick bounded up to him. Kevin wondered where the kid got all
his energy from. They had just been practising for two hours solid, and
all Kevin wanted to do was go back to the hotel and sleep.

"Yeah, Nick?" Kevin asked, irritated.

"You don't have to be so rude." Nick looked put-out. Kevin sighed. That
had been out of order. It wasn't Nick's fault he was feeling like this.
Well, technically it was, but not really directly.

"I'm sorry." Kevin looked genuinely apologetic. "I'm just a little
tired."

"That's okay." Nick smiled sympathetically. "I hate to see you down,
Kev."

"I'm not down." Kevin smiled at the youth's compassion. How can I be when
I have you to look at? He asked himself secretly.

"Will you be okay for the show tonight?"

"Sure I will." Kevin ruffled Nick's hair. "Just give me a few hours sleep
and I'll be fine, you know me." He watched as Nick straightened out his
hair, mock-scowling. It isn't impossible to see why his two best friends
are in love with him, Kevin decided, but it does seem impossible for him to
see they're in love with him.

"Yo Kev." AJ walked up to them. Kevin sighed miserably.

"What now?"

"Peter wants to see you. Something about your crap dance routine."

"I didn't notice." Nick looked confused.

"No, it only seemed to lapse in the songs where you were stood directly in
front of him." AJ raised an eyebrow. "I wonder why that was?"

"I don't get it." Nick exclaimed, trying to work out if there was some
joke he wasn't in on.

"Don't worry about it Nick." Kevin shot AJ 'the look'. "AJ's just trying
to be funny."

"Whatever." Nick shook his head off, before walking off to find Brian.

"And who said blondes were dumb?" AJ exclaimed, laughing.

"You are such a fucking asshole AJ." Kevin hissed. "I mean, we only
kissed. It's not as if I owe you anything."

"I don't want anything, Kevin." AJ replied. "I just think it's only fair
Nicky knows that you want to fuck him."

"If you dare say anything to him I swear, I will hate you forever."

"Oh no." AJ held his hand to his mouth, pretending to be shocked.
"Anything but that, Kevin."

"And I don't want to fuck him." Kevin informed AJ.

"Oh, that's right, you're attracted to him on an intellectual level." AJ
laughed. "Get real, Kevin. You're not fooling anyone." He sauntered off.
Kevin stared after him.

"Wanna bet?" He muttered.

***

"What are you doing?" Nick asked Brian as he came out from the bathroom
into the bedroom that him and Brian were sharing in the hotel. Actually,
it was quite apparent what Brian was doing, Nick just couldn't seem to
comprehend why.

"I'm moving into Kevin's room." Brian looked over apologetically.

"How come?" Nick's beautiful lips parted in shock, even hurt. Don't look
at him, Brian told himself. Don't look at him.

"Me and Kevin haven't been spending a lot of time together recently. We
had a bit of a break-through the other night, and we both thought it would
do us good to share rooms on this tour. Besides, you need your privacy."

"No I don't." Nick informed him. "I like sharing with you."

"And I like sharing with you. But Kevin always gets left out. He's been
the odd-one out ever since this band started." Brian sighed. "C'mon
Nicky, don't be immature about this." It's not as if I want to move out,
he added secretly. But how the hell would you react if you knew I was
getting hard just seeing you in that towel?

"Fine Brian." Nick walked over to the mirror and began brushing his hair.
"You go and make up for a whole fucking year with Kevin that you never
needed to waste in the first place."

"Nick, please don't."

"Brian, it's cool." Nick swallowed. Shit, he's going to cry, Brian
realised. Is this really worth it?

"I'll go then." Brian stood up. You asshole, he shouted inwardly at
himself. Go over there and hug him or something. Don't just leave it like
this. Oh yeah, his less politically-correct voice reasoned, and then just
whip that towel off from round his waist and fuck him while you're at it.
Like that's gonna work.

"See ya." Nick answered, not once looking at him. Brian picked up his
suitcase and sighed regretfully before walking out. As soon as he had
closed the door he heard Nick sobbing angrily. Brian walked away before he
started as well.

***

"How did it go?" Kevin asked, although he didn't really need to know by
the look on Brian's face. "Bad." Brian sighed. "I know I'm doing this
for his own good, but I still couldn't help feeling like crap when he
started crying."

"He started crying?" Kevin asked, surprised. Shit, he wouldn't ever react
like that if it had been me moving out, he realised. But still, you got
what you wanted. Now they have no chance of getting together, at the
expense of making them both miserable. I hope you're happy with yourself,
jerk.

"I know." Brian shook his head. "I can't stand it when he cries. I just
want to kiss him, tell him everything will be okay." He laughed wryly. "I
think he'd be more than a little surprised if I started to do that though."

"Just a bit." Kevin tried to smile back, while feeling like he wanted to
kill himself. This wasn't right. He was causing his cousin to feel
unhappy unnecessarily. He should just tell him to go right back in there
and make up with Nick. "Don't worry." He told Brian, going against his
better judgement. "Nick will have forgotten about it tomorrow."

Once again, thanks for reading, keep sending me e-mails cos I love it, and
stay tuned for the next chapter. That's all folks!
