"Dude. This hotel rocks! There's a swimming pool and everything!"
Joey said ecstatically, staring at a table kiosk in the hotel's restaurant.
"Aww, that rules! Let's all go swimming!" Chris said, sharing in
the excitement. He nudged Lance, hoping to coax him to join them. Lance
smiled shyly, glancing at JC for support. But JC's attention was focused
on Justin, who was staring intently at his empty plate.
"Hey, if you guys don't wanna go, we'll go alone..." Joey taunted.
Chris nodded enthusiastically, then noticed that Lance was now smiling
also.
"Don't you guys want to come?" Lance asked hopefully. JC shook his
head, bringing himself back to the conversation. He could tell Justin
needed him to be there, so he declined the tempting offer.
"Party poopers!" Joey laughed, "Have fun moping around here. We'll
be splashing around without you. Splish, splash-- we'll be havin' a blast!
Ha!"
"What the hell are we waiting for?" Chris shouted. The three
leapt from the table and skipped towards the elevator.
As soon as they disappeared into the open door, JC moved to the
seat closest to Justin. He looked into his deep blue eyes, watching them
trace the circular shape of the dish in front of him. Something was
burning inside him as he watched that tortured face stare into the things
he could not see. He wanted to know what Justin was thinking, he wanted to
know what was inside him at that very moment. He felt so deeply for him
and so wanted to tell him. He wanted to tell him everything. He wanted
him to know how jealous he had been of Matt. He wanted him to know the way
his heart ached whenever they had to be apart. He wanted him to know that
he loved him.
He was torn between keeping the silence and telling Justin how much
he cared for him. It just seemed so awkward either way. He decided to
just put his hand on Justin's shoulder and let things happen according to
Justin's reaction. He slowly touched his shoulder, and Justin's pained
expression turned to face him. He rested his head on the hand that had
been offered to him. JC always knew how to make him feel safe. He always
knew how to make him feel loved.
"Thanks for staying with me," Justin said softly.
"It's really no problem. I could tell you just needed to relax for
a little while."
"Yeah. But I bet you would rather be having fun with the guys. I
know you want to go swimming, I can see it in your eyes."
JC just laughed, rolling his head around to face the ground.
"But hey, maybe you and I could go swimming later."
Justin paused a moment. Then he spoke again, "Just the two of us."
JC jerked his head up almost too quickly. "Yeah," he said. "I'd
like that."
Justin grinned widely and reached his fingers around to touch JC's
hand. He pulled it into his lap and held it there, stroking the smooth
skin. He just couldn't handle hiding his feelings for him anymore, even if
it meant destroying their friendship. He kept his eyes fixed on the set of
piercing blue eyes that had now turned soft and inviting. His left hand
traveled up JC's arm slowly, sending tingles down his spine.
Suddenly, a loud crash was heard as Chris and Joey tumbled into a
trashcan. Justin and JC were pulled harshly from their concentration as
they looked at the mess of bodies on the floor. They laughed nervously,
trying to shake their emotions from their eyes as the two walked to meet
their bandmates.
"You're such a fuckin' dumbass!" Chris yelled jokingly.
"Hey, whose bright idea was it to race?" Joey countered.
They looked up innocently as JC and Justin came closer. Lance
stood a few feet behind them, hoping to escape the disapproving eyes of the
others in the hotel.
"Dude," Joey said sadly. "The water's too cold. We want to do
something else."
	"Such as?" JC asked patiently.
"I don't know. Let's go watch Regis and Kathie Lee."
"Umm, Joey? Are you a complete idiot?" Chris asked
matter-of-factly.
"Hey! I like that show!" Lance said supportively.
"Hello?? Kathie Lee retired!" Chris said in a an almost serious
tone.
JC and Justin looked at each other, feeling like they must be the
only sane ones left in the group. Each of the boys glanced at one another,
eyes darting back and forth and all around. Then the five burst out
laughing, Joey and Chris still on the floor in a heap.
