Chapter 20 The Spell Is Broken

"I know someone who can. Can I use your phone?" I asked. The guys agreed
and I called Garrett. "Garrett, I need some weapons. I'm going after
Turic. He abducted Justin. Have you come up with any possible locations
for him?"

"Yes. According to history, he prefers places close to water and private."

"There's only one place that matches that description. I remember seeing
it when..." I remembered that the guys had no idea I was Batman. And I
didn't want them to know. I arranged for Garrett to bring weapons to the
hotel.

"Where are you going, Eric?" JC asked.

"I know where Turic is. I'm going for Justin."

"Are you sure you can beat him?"

"I'll die trying." With that I went down to the lobby and waited for
Garrett. When he pulled up outside, I approached the car.

"Excuse me, sir. But I'm waiting for someone," he said to me.

"Garrett, it's me. I'm Batman."

He eyed me closely. "Prove it."

"Jessica is the Huntress. I just talked with you on the phone about
getting Turic. You brought weapons, didn't you?"

"Well yes, of course." I opened up the driver's side door and pulled
Garrett out. I climbed into the driver's side and closed the door. "Wait!
You can't do that! You can't go after him alone!"

I ignored him and drove away. If I had stayed long enough, I would have
seen the guys come out and join him. But I was too obsessed and worried
about Justin. "Turic wouldn't dare hurt Justin. He wouldn't dare."

I sped along the road in Garrett's minivan toward the ocean. Jessica and I
had checked out the warehouse where a demon was arriving for Turic. We
arrived too late. I had gone back when I was looking for Turic earlier in
the week. I remembered a warehouse a hundred yards away that was decrepit.
It was condemned but had yet to be demolished. It was obviously where
Turic was hiding. That's how he got away from us so quickly when the
Huntress and I had tried to stop his demon friend.

I so much wanted to run the van right into the building when I arrived, but
I knew it wasn't smart to do that. So I parked the van a safe distance
away and loaded up a duffel bag with wooden stakes. I wanted him to get it
right in the heart since he played with Justin's heart as well as mine.
And I wanted to be close to see the look on his face when all his hopes and
dreams turned to dust along with his body.

I snuck up to the warehouse and peeked through a window. It was dusty and
dark. As I looked harder, I noticed some movement. I made my way to a
door and tried to open it. With a little tug it opened and I slipped in.
I made my way around the wooden crates and old boxes until I saw Justin
tied up in the middle of the warehouse. Turic walked into view.

"It's about time you woke up, love."

"If you hadn't hit me, you wouldn't have had to wait for me to wake up.
And don't call me 'love'. I'm not your damn love."

"Ah, but if I had not hit you, you would have struggled against me. And
who knows you could have gotten hurt in that fire."

"What fire?"

"The one I started at the dance hall. I don't know if your boyfriend got
out or not. You never took me to that place. Why not?"

"You bastard! You killed Eric!"

Turic laughed at Justin's pain. I couldn't allow it to go on. "No, he
didn't, Justin."

Turic stopped laughing and looked as I stepped out of the shadows. "So you
did survive! Someone must have called 9-1-1 on one of their cell phones.
Damn inventions. But no matter. I will kill you here in front of Justin
just to prove that you are weaker."

"You are sick and demented."

"Whatever."

Turic walked toward me with purpose. I wasn't ready. I hadn't gotten out
any type of weapon to kill him. I guess it was time to see if my training
with Garrett was doing any good. Turic swung at me and I ducked. He swung
again and I ran under his arm. "What are you running for? I thought you
were tough."

He got close and kicked at me. I jumped back and he nearly hit me. I knew
I couldn't dodge him forever. I'm mortal. My strength would give out on
me in time. He was undead. He didn't have to worry about running out of
strength, just the sun coming up. And I couldn't wait for the sun to come
up. I had to get on the offensive.

Turic swung at me and, instead of ducking, I put my arm up and blocked. It
hurt my arm tremendously but it stopped his punch. Then, I punched him.
His face rolled with the punch. It didn't jerk like earlier at the dance
hall. Why?

Then Turic picked me up by the throat. "I should have just strangled you
earlier tonight. It would have saved me a bunch of trouble." Turic laughed
at me. Then he looked at Justin. "Here is your lover, Justin. He is a
worthless piece of shit. He is dung on my boots that needs washed away
with water. A waste of flesh and blood. Once I finish him off, you and I
will enjoy an orgy with you being my slave like before. You will pleasure
me in every way possible, just as you always did."

Justin was crying and I became angrier than ever before. I grabbed Turic's
hand and slowly opened his fingers. He looked at me with shock. I opened
his hand completely and dropped to the ground. "What the...?"

"I've had it with you," I said. I punched him and he jerked back. I
punched him again, and again. Then, I tossed him into the wall. "You've
taken enough from Justin. You've taken enough from me. It's going to end
tonight."
Turic stood and punched me then kicked me in the stomach. He
brought his knee up and connected with my face knocking me on the floor.
At that moment, Garrett and the boys came rushing in. Turic looked
at them and smiled. "Oh, good. Dinner." He held up his hand and energy
shot out towards the guys. They scattered as the bolt hit the floor. "Aw,
shucks. I missed."
I stood up and grabbed Turic on the shoulder. I spun him around
and punched him. He stumbled toward Justin. He grabbed Justin and kissed
him full on the lips. Then backhanded him. This infuriated me. What
happened next I don't understand, but something did happen.
I slowly lifted my hands up and it seemed that everything bowed to
my will. In my mind my grasp reached out and touched whatever I wanted.
Also an eerie wind began to blow. Boxes began to blow at Turic. He dodged
the first two but was hit by the third. Then, a huge wooden crate lifted
off the ground and hurled toward him. He ducked as it flew passed him and
smashed into the wall falling to pieces. My duffel bag flew out from
around the corner and the zipper slowly unzipped.
"My God!" someone said. I wasn't sure whom.

"Eric! What are you doing?" Lance called out.

"How is he doing that?" Joey asked in wonder.

One of the wooden stakes flew out of the bag and landed in the rope holding
Justin. He fell to the floor now free of the ropes grasp. He turned back
and looked at me but I didn't pay any attention to him. All my anger, all
my rage was turned upon Turic.

"Get out of the way!" Garrett called out to Justin.

"What's happening to him?" Justin yelled back.

Without warning all of the wooden stakes jumped out of the bag and hovered
in mid air. I sent one, two, three at Turic. He was able to blast them
out of the air. "You'll have to do better than that!" he yelled.

"Don't worry. I intend to." All the stakes flew forth and hit Turic
imbedding themselves into his body, throwing him up into the wall. Some
went most of the way through him and stuck him to the wall. I walked
toward him, past Justin and everyone else who was staring in amazement.
"You took too much, Turic," I said. "You pushed me too far."

"If it's any consolation, I'm sorry."

"Not good enough." I reached out and a wooden stake flew from the floor to
my hand. I extended my other hand toward Turic and his sunglasses that he
always wore came flying off his face to reveal the coldest shade of gray
imaginable. I crushed his sunglasses in my hand and walked up to Turic.
"I know you placed a spell on Justin to control him." He smiled at me.
"And I know how to break it." His eyes went wide as I brought the stake up
and slammed it into his chest.

"No!" he said as the wood pierced his heart and he turned to dust. This
white wave of energy shot out from where is body was and knocked Justin and
I down.

When I opened my eyes, I could hear rain beginning to fall outside. I
blinked a couple times and stood up. Garrett, Lance and the rest came out
of the shadows. I turned to face Justin. He stumbled and JC grabbed him
quick.

"What am I doing here?" Justin said.

"You were brought here."

"By who?"

"Turic."

"Who the hell is Turic?"

"Your ex-boyfriend?"

Justin looked at JC in surprise. "Boyfriend? I'm not a fag!"

That word echoed in my ears over and over again as it's simple use brought
a profound meaning to me. The spell on Justin wasn't to control him but to
make him a homosexual. It was almost like a love potion. And now it was
broken.

"What?" JC asked in shock. "You're what?"

"I'm not a homo! Where did you guys come up with that crazy idea?"

I dropped to my knees.

"I'm going home." Justin walked out the door with Chris and Joey helping
him. JC and Lance looked over at me. They could tell I didn't want to be
disturbed so they left. Garrett looked at me and then left.

As I stayed on my knees and the tears fell as my heart broke. The sobs
came quietly, and then built until I was crying uncontrollably. My hands
went to my face as the tears flowed. I couldn't believe what just
happened. A few hours ago I was with the man I loved and he loved me, and
we were declaring our love. We danced and kissed and fell so much deeper
in love with each other. And now he's gone.

I managed to stand up, though I don't know under what strength. And I
walked. My mind kept going back to the song we danced to.

		As we move to memories
		Tears run down your face.
I whisper words of love so softly
		I can't believe this pain
		It's driving me insane
Without your touch life will be lonely.

So raise your hands to Heaven and pray
That we'll be back together some day

This time I knew we could never be together again. The spell was
broken. Justin wasn't under Turic's control. And he was no longer in love
with me. Nor could he ever love me, because he wasn't born gay. He was
put under a spell.
I finally made it home and collapsed on my bed in my wet clothes,
kicking my radio in the process. I didn't care. My life was gone. The
man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with was gone. The radio came on
and a very sad song was playing.

I'm going to live my life
		Like every day's the last
		Without a simple goodbye
It all goes by so fast

And now that you're gone
		I can't cry hard enough
No, I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now

		Gonna open my eyes
And see for the first time
I let go a few like
A child letting go of his kite

There it goes up in the sky
There it goes feet on the clouds
		For no reason why
		I can't cry hard enough
No, I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now

Gonna look back in vain
		And see you standing there
		When all that remains
		Is just an empty chair

		And now that you're gone
		I can't cry hard enough
No, I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now

There it goes up in the sky
There it goes feet on the clouds
		For no reason why
		I can't cry hard enough
No, I can't cry hard enough
For you to hear me now

I cried myself to sleep that night, not wanting nor caring if I
ever woke up.
