Chapter 3 Word Gets Out

I awoke from a very restful sleep Saturday morning. After my first
night out as Batman, I was pretty exhausted. I had some rather erotic
dreams involving Darren and Daniel, well, mostly Darren. And unfortunately
I awoke before the dream could reach any kind of climax. That's how my
dreams seem to be: full of stimulation but never a climax. Gets all my
sexual tension worked up. Go figure.
Any way, I woke up and showered. I remember on my round about trip
home that a donut shop laid in the opposite direction of the fast food
restaurant. So, I decided to go there and get a cappuccino and crème
stick.
Once I got my food, I sat at one of the booths. The donut shop has
several newspapers lying around for patrons to read, so I grabbed one. One
of the front-page stories told of a near robbery at the Taco Bell two
blocks away. The singer and guitarist of Savage Garden were there. I
didn't get the chance to read much more since some customers a booth away
were discussing what happened and got a bit loud about it.
"It's them damn gang members, if you ask me! They always are
fighting their damn wars with the other gangs! I wish the cops would just
waste 'em all! Save the rest of us citizens from their grief!"
I could sense their anger rather quickly, and I sympathize with the
gentleman. But you don't just kill people if you don't like them. Most of
those kids feel they don't have a choice. They need guidance. That
doesn't mean I'll go soft if one of them tries to kill me, but it does mean
that I will try to steer them in the right direction.
"But who was the guy who stopped the robbery? Where did he come
from?" another guy chimed in.
"I told you. He is with a gang."
"Gangs may have colors to identify themselves, but what gang wears
a mask."
I smiled to myself. I couldn't believe that in my first night
already others were talking about me. Well, it wasn't really me they were
talking about. It was Batman. Eric McCoy couldn't take the honor for it.
After all, that's not why I'm here. Nor is it why I'm doing it.
I took my donut and coffee and left. As I walked home, my mind
kept wandering to Darren. I kept thinking of those eyes, that nose, those
lips. Before long, my whole body was responding to this memory. Hopefully
no one noticed.
I rushed home as dignified as any adult can with pants that are
tightening in the crotch. I went inside and undressed. Lying on my bed, I
continued my memory of the young rock star, massaging my hardening dick.
Then my mind went to the dreams I had of Darren. We were in my apartment
and he could not keep his hands off me. I kept thinking of how he looked
in my dreams all naked and horny. I kind of laughed at myself. My hand
was getting really wet with pre-cum. I tend to get really went when I'm
horny.
As my dream came to an end in reliving it, I decided to create my
own ending. Unfortunately, someone else had different plans.
The phone rang and I had no choice but to answer it. It was my
mom. What a waste of a perfectly good erection. I told her I was fine and
that I couldn't stay long. I had to do some extra work at my new job so I
would be ready when Monday came around. She kept me on the phone for ten
more minutes before finally hanging up. Not wanting to make myself out to
be a liar, I dressed again and headed out to the office.

Once at the office, I got on the computer to check out some of the
appointments scheduled for Monday. Joshua dealt mostly with young
children, teens and young adults. I looked over some of the patients who
would be there on Monday so I would know how to act around them. I
wouldn't want to say something wrong to them. Just as I was reading a
file, Joshua came out of his office with a smile on his face.
	"Hi, Eric."
	"Hi, Dr..."
	"Please, call me Joshua."
	"Alright. Hi, Joshua."
"What brings you here today? You don't have to be here until
Monday. It's Saturday."
"I wanted to be ready for the patients. I don't want to say
something that will cause them problems."
"Good for you. Are you doing anything tonight?"
	"Tonight? No."
"Would you like to go with me to a fundraising dinner and dance?"
I couldn't believe it. Here was my cute boss asking me out on a
date. Wow, people really are much more open about their sexuality out here
than back east!
"Uh, sure. What should I wear?"
"Suit and tie. It's kind of formal."
	"Sure."
"Where do you live? I will pick you up at 7:00."
I gave Joshua the directions to my apartment and he left for the
day. I read a little bit more of the files but couldn't concentrate too
much on them. My boss, who technically wasn't my boss yet, had just asked
me out on a date. And he's cute, too! How cool is that!

I went home and spent the rest of the afternoon unpacking and
setting up the last of my house decorations, books on the bookshelf, etc.
I showered and got ready for my date. At 7:00, Joshua arrived and he and I
walked out to his red firebird.
	"Nice car." I replied.
"Oh, thanks. What about you? Do you have a car?"
"Not yet. I just moved here. I had a mini-van but gave it too my
parents when I moved out here. They needed a new car and transporting a
mini-van by airplane is much too expensive."
	"Mini-vans are cool. I used to drive a Volkswagen mini-van when I
was in college. That was fun."
The rest of the trip was nice. Joshua shared with me some of his
past, as well as my sharing mine with him. We talked about favorite movies
and such. It was nice to have someone to talk to, especially being in a
strange town and knowing no one. I found myself getting comfortable being
around him. His good looks didn't intimidate me like they did when I first
saw him.
When we arrived at the fundraiser, I was surprised to see all the
dressed up ladies and gentlemen. I didn't expect a child psychologist to
be part of such an elite circle of the wealthy. I didn't realize whom all
I would meet until he and I walked into the ballroom.
"Eric, you are going to meet a bunch of famous actors and
singers. I didn't tell you this before because I didn't want you to say
'no'. People tend to want to see famous people, but sometimes it freaks
them out."
"Oh, well, it was nice of you to not prepare me so well in
advance."
We kind of laughed about it and off to a table we were ushered.
When the waiter came around, I took what I thought was Ginger Ale.
It turned out to be champagne. Yuck! I drank it with dignity but asked
the waiters when they brought around the other drinks. It took me awhile,
but some realized I don't drink and would send a glass of water or soda pop
my way. They had a nice menu to choose from. I settled on a Grilled
Chicken Salad, not wanting to look like a pig when I ate.
For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what famous people we
were supposed to meet here until after dinner when everyone began to
mingle. I noticed the band NSYNC was present as well as the Backstreet
Boys and Savage Garden. Ryan Phillipe, Leonardo DiCaprio and Paul Rudd
were just some of the many actors present. Mike Meyers was present, too.
I love Austin Powers.
"Joshua, I forgot to ask you what the fundraiser is for."
"It's for a youth community center remodeling. The one downtown is
getting old and falling apart at the seams. Getting all this money in one
room is a sure fire way to develop a maintenance fund."
I noticed Joshua's face light up a bit at someone's approach. It
ended up being JC from NSYNC.
	"Hi, JC."
	"Hi, Joshua."
"Glad you could make it tonight."
"Me, too. The guys were saying how good it is to get so many
together for a good cause. Who's this?"
"Oh, this is Eric McCoy. He's new at the Center."
"Hi. I'm JC. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you, too. I really like your music."
"Thanks." JC turned from me back to Joshua. "Listen, we'll be up
in a little while to sing. Maybe we can get together afterwards."
	"Sounds good."
This was so cool. I just met one of my favorite singers! I was so
shocked about it I didn't realize that Joshua and JC were going to "get
together" after they sang.
Joshua and I sat back in our chairs at the table as the guys from
NSYNC took their places on the round platform in the middle of the huge
ballroom. The music began and I could tell it was one of my favorite songs
"I Need Love". I began to sing along with them as they sang.
"You have a nice voice," Joshua commented.
	"Thanks."
"So, which one do you like?"
	"Excuse me?"
"Which member of NSYNC do you like? You are a 24-year-old man who
knows NSYNC's music. You obviously have a thing for one of them."
"They have really good music. They sound good together. They have
really upbeat music."
"Okay," Joshua says looking back at the group with a smirk on his
face.
	"Justin," I replied. "And Lance."
"So you have a thing for blondes, eh?"
Joshua looked at me and smiled.
"Well, look at them! They are gorgeous!"
"Would you like me to introduce you to them?"
"Uh, sure," I answered, feeling rather meek and shy.
	"Would you like to dance?"
"Oh, I'm not a good dancer."
"You don't have to be a good dancer. You just have to move."
I couldn't help myself. I had to laugh. I tend to dance like
David Boreanaz did on an episode of "Angel", one of my favorite TV shows.
Actually, more like a mix between him and Austin Powers, "Groovy, Baby!"
The song ended and the group got down off the platform. However,
another song came on. Someone must have put in one of the group's CDs.
The group came over to Joshua and I, and Joshua went around introducing
them to me. I couldn't help but locking eyes with Justin and Lance when
they took my hand. I felt my hand going limp in their grip.
"Are you feeling okay?" Lance asked. "You look a little flushed."
"Yeah, I'm okay. I'll be right back."
I left the group hurriedly and headed to the bathroom. I went in
and splashed some cold water on my face.
"Relax, Eric. They are people just like you. I know, they are
gorgeous, but they are human beings. Just relax or they will think you're
a dork."

I returned to the group a little bit later, feeling not much
better, but not showing it so much.
"What did I miss?" I asked.
"I was just telling the guys how much you adore their music,"
Joshua replied.
	"Oh."
"Listen, we are having a concert next weekend. If you would like
to come, we can arrange for you to get a free ticket," JC said.
	"Are you serious?"
	"Sure am."
	"Wow. Thanks."
	"You're welcome."

The rest of the night went by rather nicely. I got to visit with
them some more and become rather relaxed around them. It was nice.
After the fundraiser, Joshua took me home. He didn't kiss me or
anything, just said how nice a time he had.
"Take it easy now, Eric. See you Monday."
	"Will do, Joshua."
I watched Joshua drive away and I went inside. I decided to go
straight to bed. I was too tired to even patrol.

To be continued...

So what do you think so far? It will continue to get better. I know the
first two were a bit on the slow, short development. But I have more ideas
and more things in store for our hero. You will meet some Batman villains
as well as some other heroes from the Batman mythos. I welcome your
thoughts and opinions. If no one is really interested in it, I will stop
posting. Please, let me know what you think!
