Subject: Twisted History - Chapter 4

Hello again and welcome to chapter 4! I know it took some time to get this
chapter out but I have been occupied for most of my time. The school-start,
me buying new furniture and a math-final have taken up most of my time. I
have actually gotten a beta-reader and I'm really happy about that.

Twisted History

Chapter 4 - Four becomes one

We stood in silence watching the door, not believing it happened. It was as
if no one dared to say it. To say that they saw a door shut on its own. I
didn't want to believe it so I told myself someone in the room behind the
door closed it. At least that was what I now said:

-"There must be a person in that room."
-"Yes. There must be." Donna said.
-"We must see him or her. Let's go." I stated and began pacing forward to
the door. Donna followed closely behind but Lance and Janet hadn't moved an
inch. We didn't care and approached the door. We knocked loudly and waited
for a response. The seconds ticked away and no response came. I tried the
handle and the door opened. Donna walked in first and I followed close. We
peaked around the room and no one could be seen. This was the only door and
all the windows were closed.
-"For Christ's sake! We saw the door close. Where is the person who did it?"
Donna shouted.
-"I can't believe it!" I said in disbelief.
-"No one closed the door!" Janet exclaimed from the door. She and Lance were
poking inside the room from the hallway.
-"No, you're wrong. We just have to find the mother-fucker!" Donna shouted
again.
-"There is no one here. You know that too but you just don't see it." Lance
cut in.
-"That isn't true. Someone is playing tricks on us!" Donna continued in her
loud voice.
-"Open your eyes, damn it! Don't you see it? We were brought here over
night. We come from different continents and how could anyone first kidnap
us and then put us on a flight and put us here only in the matter of two or
three hours?" Lance's voice got louder. Donna kept quiet. She realised that
it was impossible and that not everything was right with this picture.

We stood in the empty room at the end of the hall. No one spoke and the
silence was complete. I stared at Donna and she stared back. I turned toward
Lance and he stood staring me. I wanted to say something, but no words came
to my mind. Nothing broke the silence until footsteps could be heard from
the hallway, everyone froze.
It felt like my spine was creeping out of my body. The footsteps continued
at a slow pace. The sound became lower and lower for each footstep so it was
easy to assume the person walked away from us. Donna dared herself to take a
look down the hallway.
-"There's no one there. There's no one in the hallway." She whispered.
-"Of course there is. We can hear him or her." Janet argued.
-"No, there's no one there. Take a look yourself."
Everyone took a look and we could all agree there was no one walking down
the hallway even though we could still hear the steps. This only fuelled the
growing tension and fear in the group.
-"This isn't happening!" Lance shouted.
-"Who the fuck are you!?" Donna shouted in the direction of the footsteps
while Lance began running out of the room.
-"Wait, Lance! Wait!" I shouted at him.
-"I'm going to catch this asshole!" He shouted back. I didn't know what to
do so I followed him. I decided to catch and stop him but I didn't reach him
until he stopped himself. He had reached the railing and was staring down at
the floor beneath. I stopped behind him and looked down over his shoulder.
The clean, marble floor was now bloodstenched. In the middle of the floor
was a big patch of blood. Other blood patterns revealed that someone had
been dragged from the patch of blood and to the stair and up the stairs to
the second floor. The blood was seen from the top of the stair and it
continued to the stair to the third floor where it went up as well.

-"That is alot of blood." I said to Lance. He simply nodded. Now Donna and
Janet approached us from the hallway and they both screamed when they saw
the blood. Donna stood still staring at the blood while Janet backed away
crying. Janet turned and began running along the circular walking path
surrounding the open area throughout the five floors. Janet then ran into
the next hallway and disappeared.

-"Wait, Janet! Wait!" Lance shouted and began running after her.
-"Come on Donna." I grabbed her arm and began pulling in it in the same
direction Lance was running. Soon were we all running for Janet but when we
got around the bend, all doors along the hallway were closed and Janet was
nowhere to be seen. Lance and I acted on instinct and began trying to open
every door but everyone was locked.

-"You don't imagine she locked her door after her?" I asked.
-"Are you kidding? Where did she get the key from?" He answered back.
-"Where can she be?"
-"I haven't got the faintest idea."

Looking around us for answers we noticed Donna staring along the walking
path. She then screamed and ran in the opposite direction. Lance and I ran
towards where she used to stand but when we got there we saw Donna running
up the stairs and we followed her. Screaming for Donna we came to the third
floor and saw Donna heading up the stairs for the fourth floor. I stopped a
few feet away from the stair heading for the fourth floor when I heard Lance
yelling loudly. I turned around and saw him falling backwards over the
railing and down all three floors. I heard him screaming as he fell but when
I reached the railing and looked down all the floors. I couldn't see Lance
lying on the bottom floor. When I thought about it, I didn't hear him hit
the floor either. I was suddenly feeling dizzy. I backed away from the
railing and then I tripped over the carpet behind me. I managed to turn
around in the fall and fell with my hands first into the floor. I was lying
there feeling even more dizzy and then my vision started to get blurry and
then everything went dark.
