Chapter Four.

Six-days later, Dublin in Ireland.
"Where are we all staying?" Mark asked, eager to get
some sleep, even though it had been a
very short flight from London to Dublin. But flying
always made Mark tired.
"I'm going back to Sligo, for a while" said Shane,
walking ahead of the lads. Everyone looked
at each other, shrugged and followed Shane, everyone
except Nicky, who stood there feeling
horrible, he felt it was his fault that Shane was
being so distant from the group, he desperately
wanted to talk to him, clear things out, they couldn't
go on like this forever. But Shane was doing a
pretty good job of avoiding him so far.
"Are you coming or what?" asked Bryan.
Nicky followed them quietly.

A few hours later, Shane trotted down the stairs,
suitcases in hand. Mark caught him passing
through the hallway and followed him out.
"You're not really going?" he asked, surprised.
Shane nodded calmly "I've talked to Louis, he said
It's okay for me to go"
"But why are you going?" Mark asked "Why are you
acting so strange, what's wrong?"
Shane smiled weakly "I'm okay, really. I'll be back in
a few day's". He closed the bonnet and got into
the car, driving off without saying another word.
Nicky stared out of the window, watching Shane leave,
a single tear trickled down his cheek.

Shane drove wildly along the road, exceeding the speed
limit by miles. He wasn't really concentrating
on the road; he just wanted to get as far away from
Nicky as possible. As he drove, his eyes filled
with tears, the thought of Nicky filled him with a
wave of emotion. He clenched his fists in anger,
he couldn't keep control of his feeling anymore, he
wanted never to see Nicky again, but everytime he
closed his eyes that's who he saw, smiling back at
him.

That evening the lads decided to hit the town and
party! But Nicky wasn't in a partying mood and
despite the fact that Kian tried his best to convince
him to come, he refused.
As Mark, Kian and Bryan left, Nicky made himself a cup
of coffee and sat down to think, he had so
 much of it to do.
Why was Shane being so distant from the group? If he
had a problem with Nicky being gay, then
why did he stay away from the other three? Nicky
couldn't understand that. He had a feeling there was
more to it than that, but what could it be?
'But why am I always thinking about him?' Nicky asked
himself, he had spent most of the last few day's
thinking about how he must sort things out with Shane,
how he wanted to spend some time with Shane,
the way they always did. And all the while, Kian had
been nothing but 'just one of the guy's'. Kian had
come and sat next to Nicky on many occasions after
that night in the restaurant, and it didn't make Nicky

go weak in the knees, because he was too busy thinking
about Shane.
Even now, he had given up the chance to spend some
time with Kian, to do what? Think about Shane!
Nicky was so confused, he had no idea what was going
on inside his heart. Did he love Kian? if he did,
then why was he always thinking about Shane and why
didn't Kian have the same effect on him anymore?
If he was in love with Kian, then what did he feel for
Shane? why did he spend every minute of every day,
hoping to god that Shane would talk to him again?
But it couldn't be love, because he loved Kian, didn't
he? but deep down he realised, what he felt for
Shane was stronger than what he felt for Kian,
whatever it was.
Then suddenly he felt like the walls were closing in
on him, his head began to feel so heavy and his
breathing became ragged and intense. He got up from
the couch and headed towards the door, he
needed fresh air. But when he opened the door, he lost
his balance and fell forward, tumbling down the
four steps and onto the concrete path.
