Working for the Boys 13

Nick, Brian, Howie, and I piled into a limo and drove to management
division in Orlando. We got there and explained that AJ wasn't feeling
good. We talked to one of their secretary's before Gregory burst in.

"Good morning gentleman," Gregory said as he put his briefcase
down. "Now, this may be hard for you guys, but we need to find a base to
replace Kevin. I know this may seem hard, but we have to start
pre-recording and doing interviews immediately. The loss of Kevin is
tragic, but the recreation of the Backstreet Boys will be amazing. So what
do you guys say?"

We all just stared at Gregory stunned. I asked the guys to leave
and let me talk to Gregory.

"So, you want just us to o this deal? I can understand," Gregory
smiled, " they are way to personal to make a decision."

	"No, Gregory," I stated sternly.

	He looked surprised.

"What do you mean by `no?' James, this is a big opportunity to play
on the fans emotions. We bring the Backstreet Boys out with a new image,
maybe a young teenager and we will remake millions."

"Gregory, the did not loose a fucking sock or their lucky hat. They
lost a friend! A cousin! A mentor! They lost one of the key players into
making this group what it is. They just can't easily shrug it off and keep
working."

"I know that you are a tad effected by this, but it does not give
you the authority to yell. Now I have made up my mind. They will start
their tour in Boston as scheduled."

"You make them work now, Gregory and you will have no Backstreet
Boys! What the hell is wrong with you? Do you really want to loose the
biggest money makers in your office."

"You forget, James, "Gregory said harshly, "without Kevin
Richardson, the Backstreet Boys will be a fad by the end of the year."

"They may surprise you, Gregory. The same way you're surprising me
now. You are supposed to be a friend as well as management. Your suppose to
treat them like people, not animals. Oh well, I guess we should seek better
company to manage the Backstreet Boys."

	I started to walk out.

	"Wait," Gregory yelled.

AJ wondered around aimlessly around his native Orlando. He looked
around and swore that everyone he saw was with someone. He finally went
back to his car when he was tapped on his shoulder. He turned around.

"You," he said bitterly, "what do you want?"

And this is where you'll be staying," Theresa pointed in the room.

"Is this a five-star hotel," the man asked.

	"Better believe it," Theresa smiled.

"Thank you for the first class stay in Orlando," the man asked.

"You are so welcome, Casey. We just want to make your stay here
useful though."

Casey Dunning looked at Theresa inquisitively. "What do you mean by
that," he asked.

"You'll see," Theresa smiled, "You'll see."

I walked out of Gregory's office. While we entered the limousine, I
explained what happened. The Backstreet Boys would take a month off to let
what happened with Kevin sink in, then they would decide where they would
go after that. Decided to have lunch and bring some doggy bags for AJ and
Tyler.

"Well, this is odd," Nick said to the rest of us, "You know, not
having Kevin around. Ordering us what to do and what the day will
bring. It's like loosing a father,"

"Nick," Howie snapped, "I don't want to talk about it. I don't want
tot talk about Kevin at all."

	"Why," Brian questioned.

"Out of all people, you should be the first to agree with me. I
mean he was your freaking cousin. I would think that. Maybe you don't want
to remember Kevin is dead right now."

"Cut the crap, Howie," Brian stated. "You know this has to do with
you. Everything always has to do with you."

"No it doesn't," Howie replied meekly.

"Yeah it does, Howie. Now why don't you want to talk about Kevin
dying?"

	"I just don't."

	"Why?"

	"Brian, stop," I interrupted.

"No," Brian snapped at me, " I want to know why the fuck is Howie
so hell bent at erasing Kevin's memory from this group!"

"I am not doing that," Howie yelled, almost in tears.

"Brian, stop attacking him," Nick asked.

"I know why you don't want to talk about Kevin, Howard."

	Howie looked shocked.

"What the hell are you talking about, Brian," I asked.

Brian stood up and started straight into Howie's eyes.

"I know you feel guilty," Brian said with hate in his voice, " and
you should. I know exactly what you did to Kevin, Howard, and I have
proof."

Howie looked scared as Brian took out a piece of paper from his
pocket.

Theresa fumbled through the phone book. She lowly flipped through
pages as she looked at the names. She smiled as she found it. She picked up
the phone next to her and dialed.

"Hello, this is Sandra Styles calling in for Gregory Sanders. I
need to find Nick Carter for an emergency meeting. Are you sure he's there?
Ok, thank you very much. Bye."

"AJ, come on. We need to get back," Tyler said.

	AJ opened the door.

"Listen, I know you mean well, but just leave me alone. I need time
and space and that includes you leaving me alone."

Tyler ran over to the passenger side and hopped in.

"Well, too bad. I am your emotional guard for the day. Listen, AJ I
know that loosing Kevin really hurts, but you can't do it alone. You need
your friends near you. Come on, let us help."

AJ slowly hopped into the car.

	"You want to help?"

	Tyler nodded.

"Then help me find the culprit who killed Kevin."

Theresa snuck into the man's room. She slowly took out a pocket
watch out and woke the man up.

"Time to get hypnotized, " she smiled.

Brian slammed the paper on the table. Nick was the first to
retrieve it. Howie squirmed in his chair as he tried to see Nick's
reaction. Nick just handed it to me.

"What proof," Howie finally said, "there is no proof of anything."

I was furious. I stood up. I was about to punch out Howie when a
man with a machine gun came in the restaurant. He was masked.

"Ok, Nobody gets hurt. All I want is them two," he said as his gun
pointed to Howie and Nick."

Nick looked scared, as well as Howie. The guy came over and put a
gun to Nick's head.

	"NOW!"

Nick and Howie slowly rise as the man took them out of the
restaurant.

"What the hell was that," Brian asked me.

"I don't know," I answered, "but it doesn't look good at all."

AJ and Tyler drove to Kevin and AJ's house. As the walked into the
gated backyard, Tyler noticed that the remains of Kevin's car was there.

"This is all that remains of Kevin," AJ said. "I looked at
everything and everything seems normal. Everything except this."

AJ lifted up the back tire still attached to the axle.

"You're a technical expert. What seems wrong with this?"

Tyler stared for a bit before he noticed what AJ meant. His face
turned ghost as he looked back at AJ.

"Somebody wanted to hurt you guys," Tyler said. "They cut half the
axle."

Brian and I went to follow the man who had Nick and Howie. We
didn't want to take a limousine. We saw a car dealership across the
street.

"Hello, sirs what can I.. Hey, aren't you that guy from the
Backstreet Boys?" the man smiled.

"No time! We need a fast car immediately," Brian yelled.

Theresa and her new lackey walked into the restaurant. She looked
around a bit before stopping a waitress.

"Excuse me, do you know where Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys
is. I was suppose to meet him."

"I don't know what to say, ma'am. He was kidnapped." The waitress
said, franticly.

The car came to a junkyard before it completely stopped. Howie and
Nick got out with the gunman behind them.

"Ok," Howie stated, " How are you and what do you want?"

"I want to protect you from Theresa," the man said. With that, he
lifted up his mask.
