This story includes acts of homosexuality between two consenting adults. Enjoy! "Breath of Life" "It happened in April. I've forgotten the exact, but I know it was in April. Even after all these years I can smell the flowers of our apple trees. They changed me, they tried to break me. Still they couldn't take it all away. My body might not be the same, my mind might be altered, but they didn't win. I'm not theirs anymore...." Chapter 1 "Good evening this is ten o'clock news on Fox and my name is Andrew Barton. Today, the fire department and the hospitals have been under a lot of stress. During the day we've had several freak accidents, acts of vandalism and what seems a wave of self-combustions. The heads of all departments are baffled at what might have caused all of this havoc. The chief of NYFD has been quoted to have said: "There simply can't be any natural cause for all of this". Luckily the death count has been quite low, but the chaos in the streets can be felt. The teams will continue working until all has been... What the...?" Suddenly a dark figure starts descending from the roof towards the news anchor's desk. It seems as if the figure is somehow coming thru the roof. Everyone stays quiet as the figure slowly floats downwards. When it hits the table, it takes its hood off revealing a Venetian death mask beneath. The figure spoke: "I am one of the angels of death that have walked in this tainted city during this day. We have come to judge all of you that have sympathized with the demons known as mutants. I've come here to make this human Andrew Barton an example for everyone who has committed the same sin of believing the demons." The "Angel" grabs Mr. Barton from his collar lifts him till they are face to face. "You have failed your maker. I condemn you!" said the "Angel". Mr. Barton tries to scream in fear, but his voice can't be heard. Everyone stand still, as if frozen, and they can only watch in horror as the news anchor seems to choke. When his body stops moving, the "Angel" throws it to the wall behind them and faces towards the camera. "He was your first and only warning. Kill the mutants or we will make sure everyone feels our wrath!" as the "Angel" has said his final words the picture on every television changes to the emergency broadcast channel. ----------------------------------- "Professor did see what just...?" "Yes Jean I saw the broadcast, but I'm not sure what to think of it?" said Professor Xavier. "What do you mean? We all saw what happened. Someone is trying to kill all of us!" said Ororo Munroe as she came to the room with Logan and Scott Summer. "That I do agree, but I'm not so certain who is behind all of this", said the Professor and turned towards his colleagues in his wheelchair. "I agree with Chuck. That was no angel, I'm sure of that. But to me, this feels like something Weapon X or some other nut job would do", said Logan. "Logan seems to have a point. I also got an impression that the "Angel" might have been a mutant. I can't know for certain, but maybe we should attempt with cerebro, Professor?", said Jean Grey. "Yes, we should. It might be that an old enemy has yet again found a new way to hunt us. Let us go know child", said the professor. He and Jean exited the room leaving everyone worried. "This feels wrong. We need to get to the bottom of this", stated Cyclops.
