He made a move off the bandstand to approach the Doctor but became overwhelmed. The crowd did not notice since he was in between sets. Both were about to turn away from each other but couldn't. Grayson met the Doctor first and put his hands around the Doctor's wrists. The first thing the Doctor noticed was that this soft boy's touch was gentle and calming. The boy noticed the Doctor's hesitation and embarrassment. Grayson shook his head "No" as if to say there is no need to be embarrassed. No need for a secret. He took the Time Lord's hands and put them over his heart, leaning the man (?) into himself. To his overwhelming feelings of joy, the Time Lord reciprocated and put the tender hands over his own chest?one hand over each heart. Two hearts. Grayson nodded. Alien? Yes. Afraid? No. Grayson laughed, looking up into the eyes of the Doctor, and snorted. "Why would I be?" I can be? No, you're not. You're beautiful. A wonderful force of love. I am? You are. How do you know? Telepathic. Remember. Oh, I mean remember? When did that happen to you? Grayson shrugged and took his hands, Time Lord hands moving to his own hands, clasping them, and moved them around the back of the man. This effectively put the Doctor's own arms around his own back, along with Grayson's arms, wrapping the Doctor's body. "Such a lonely man. A lonely little boy." The Doctor let go of the hands and had them desperately out to his side. He then realized that he should probably put them around Grayson?he wondered if Jesse, Theon and Jeremy were watching him. He put his arms around the boy and put his chin on the boy's head but to his surprise the boy was almost as tall as he was. Their faces met. How old are you? Does that matter to you? Not really. How promising. Such a lonely little boy. A lonely childhood. Lonely then but ?not now. No longer. Now, you've got me. Them. The Doctor winced as he recalled something. Someone. Rose. We're lovers. Oh, I know. Jeremy. Jesse. I don't mean to step in?and intrude? We're?you and I?not yet. Yet. Yet, I don't mean to ? Jesse and Jeremy are okay with it. We all are. I don't know if I am. I have to?oh. Oh, Doctor. You were so very lonely until them. There were and are friends but until the two boys?how did you stand it, Doctor? How did you bear it, Doctor? "I managed?and?say, when did you start calling me Doctor." "I could call you by your other names?" Grayson smiled. "Yeah. Don't do that. Not out loud. It might not be safe for any of us if you did. You know there are a race of telepaths living among you?maybe you have already become one of them or you're about to?" "Dance with me?" Grayson took him by the hand as another song started by the DJ. Awkward, the Doctor danced with Grayson but managed to move away from the center of the room toward a darker corner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA9MKqIUadE "Spend all my free time thinking your tears aren't made for drinking. But I'm thirsty for what you're keeping inside. Losing track of time, what seems like weeks is only hours. I can't wait until that moment when you're mine. Even though we're not the same, different in every way, I can't help but smile when you say TAKE MY HAND?" "Take my hand." "Come with me." The Doctor, in the dark of the bar, held out his hand. Grayson stared at it. He didn't hesitate. He took it. He put his hand in the Doctor's larger. The Doctor led him past the crowds. Jeremy, Theon, and Jesse lost track of where the Doctor and Grayson moved to. Not that they weren't trying to see. It was just too dark, too foggy from the smoke machine and there were too many people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3eE2E4n1Y8 He had on white pants, string tied. Black sneakers adorned with white band. An aqua blue T shirt semi covered by a sweater that had black shoulders and gray stripes. The Doctor didn't notice any of it. He wasn't concerned with the clothes. They were in a corner of the Bunkhouse bar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEe5Q2un2ZU Outside the Bunkhouse, in a courtyard surrounded by a picket white fence with high walls, the Doctor sat at a small white table. On the other side, Grayson Chance was leaning on the table as was the Doctor. They were drinking from the same vanilla shake with two straws. To their left, and being ignored was Jesse, Jeremy, and Theon, who were watching from the long, gray wooden steps that lead down to the courtyard, more like court side yard. The trio were at the top of the steps and other patrons, mostly gay males but mixed with some females, some lesbians among them, were all around, moving to and fro or dancing or just standing and chatting. Many were looking up at the fireworks display in the night sky. Jesse frowned. "Well, those two got very chummy really fast." Theon was between Jesse and Jeremy and behind Jesse. He nudged him with an elbow. "Awww, you're jealous." "No, I'm?" Jesse thought about it and turned to look at the handsome trainer. "Wellll, I guess I am. I mean I can't just?look, it's a human emotion, all right?" He turned to look at the Doctor and Grayson again. "I can't just turn it off like he can?" "Well, it helps that the Doctor isn't human." Jesse looked back at Theon. "What do you mean?" Behind them both, Jeremy sipped a drink. "Does the whole fuckin bar know?" "It's obvious, innit? I mean?look at the way he handled that thing that attacked us out there." "Anyone?" Jesse stalled in his excuse. Not anyone could do that. "Jeremy, there, did just as much." "Thank you very much." Jeremy stared at the Doctor and Grayson, too. "You're welcome." "And then there's that thing he held in his hand?" "My dick?" Jesse shrugged and giggled. "Oh, he does that all the time." "You know what I mean?that device?" "Oh, the sonic screwdriver. That's called a sonic screwdriver." "Well done, Jesse," Jeremy remarked. Jesse shut his eyes, realizing he just gave away information. Then, he shrugged. He trusted Theon anyway. "Anyone can hold that. I've held a few in my day, too." "I bet you have," Theon laughed as he quipped and leaned on Jesse's shoulders with his arms. Jesse supported him and smiled. Theon put his head on Jesse's shoulder and spoke into his ear, "Don't be jealous?" "I know. It's just he handles it so well by turning it off I guess," Jesse explained. "I'll fill the void for you," Theon laughed. "Fill something all right. I've been wondering. Guy like you?you must have others you hang around with?" Theon was offended and stood off Jesse. "Oh. I do. I just?" "They don't know you're gay?" "I?I'm pretty open about it. I?" "Pretend you're bi?" "I don't. I mean I do like girls some?but like guys more." "Jesse, lay off him?" Jeremy kept looking at the Doctor and Grayson finishing their vanilla shake. "Oh, I'm sorry, Theon." Jesse turned fully to him. "I didn't mean anything by it." "I get girls all the time but?" Jesse put his hands up. "You don't have to explain?I'm sorry?" "I just?anyway, I'm gonna get going?" Jesse almost fell backward but Theon caught him as Jesse said, "No, don't go. I wanna?" Jesse almost fell into Theon's arms. And then, he did. "Watch it, there." Theon held Jesse in his arms by his arms. "Thank you." Jeremy shook his head. "You all right?" "Yeah, thanks to him," Jesse noted. "Let's go inside." "You wanna fool around?" Theon asked. "With you? Of course." The two moved past Jeremy. Jesse asked him, "Coming in?" "I'll be right behind you," Jeremy said, absently. He looked up as more fireworks of all colors went off in the sky, spreading light everywhere. A few sparks flew down too close. Outside the fence, some young teens were setting off bottle rockets and sparkle sky blasters. The Doctor and Grayson stood up quickly as sparks rained around their table. Jeremy tapped Jesse's back and the two of them, along with Theon turned around quickly. They started to run down the steps but saw there was nothing they could do. Grayson flinched as one spark cascaded down from his shiny, light brown hair and another hit the top of his head. He moved to grab it but amid a shower of sparks around him, the Doctor reached up to Grayson's head and took the sparking light in his hand and held it up to the sky. Grayson was wide eyed, first with terror of being burned, then of the Doctor being burned but ultimately he felt and his face radiated the joy of seeing the Doctor hold a burning light up in the night. The glow permeated the area, illuminating the Doctor's grand face and Grayson's as well. The Doctor sent it on its way up into the sky where it exploded into a million more sparkling lights of a variety of color. "Did you??" Grayson asked. "Shhhh!" The Doctor put a finger to Grayson's lips. It was then Grayson realized that they were still holding the shake in tandem between them. The Doctor leaned in on the shorter male and they kissed. Just as they kissed another set of fireworks went off further out in the midnight sky and explosions of all color illuminated the sky. The kissing pair ignored them. On the steps, Theon, Jesse and Jeremy were wide eyed. Jeremy swallowed. The crowd around the five of them were busy doing their own thing: watching the sky or complaining about the teens outside setting off the fireworks too close. Was it a gay bashing thing? What they didn't know was that the teens doing it were gay, too. It didn't matter, the Doctor was kissing Grayson for a very long time. When lips parted, Grayson could see the fireworks in the reflection?within the Doctor's retina of each of the Doctor's eyes. "Are you staying on Earth?in Long Island?long?" "I believe we'll be here for the rest of the summer at least? Why? You don't have to leave do you?" "I have a few concerts to do. A tour with Cody Simpson." Grayson saw the look of disappointment gracing the Doctor's face. "But I can return before summer's end to do some more promoting of gay rights and stuff." "You're always thinking of helping others." "Yeah." "I like that." The Doctor put his hand on Grayson's chin and held the boy's face aloft. They kissed. "When we emerged from the bar that night, we found Bessie had gone. Jesse and Theon had been making out near the pool table and I?I found a guy to put dollar bills in ?I mean in his jock strap. Kyle. A thin but muscled blond stripper. I guess that's my type. I don't have a type. In any case?" "Theon, can you give us a ride?" Jeremy asked him, a bit aggravated. "He left us," Jesse said, happy in his tone. "The Doctor left us here." "Why does that make you so happy?" Jeremy asked as Theon nodded his okay and moved to get his car. The night had given way to the morning?almost. The twilight was giving off its soft, diffused light. The edges of everything were not as harsh. Jesse and Jeremy felt as if everything was aglow in this easy, blue filter to the eyes. Theon pulled up in his Chevy Malibu. "He never does anything like that?" "Oh, really? Like leaving us stranded somewhere? Memory less?" Jeremy made Jesse recall. "Oh, yeah. Still, that's water under the bridge." "Yeah, remember now? River Kwai?" "1943? Not to mention?" "Okay, okay," Jesse laughed as he put his hands out. Theon opened the passenger door. "C'mon, get in." "Nice car." "Yes, it was July 5th, a lovely Saturday." Jeremy noted in the TARDIS log. "And we couldn't have been greeted by a lovelier sight that morn?" "Hey, Theon, C'm'ere," Jesse whispered. They were in the hallway outside the Doctor's room. It was early morning. Theon felt awkward. "Naw, I'm just gonna get goin?" "Fuck off, come here, look at this," Jesse insisted. Jesse was the open door of the Doctor's bedroom. Jeremy was side by side with Jesse. Both were smiling ear to ear. When Theon joined them, he realized why they were smiling. On the bed, graced by the slight air conditioned room, the Doctor was asleep cuddling with Grayson, who cuddled right back. They were in each other's arms and necks. Theon almost laughed. "Awww." "Awww, they're cuddlin," Jeremy said and put his hands on both sides of the doorway as if to block Jesse and Jeremy. "You said that sarcastically," Jesse put forth. "No. I guess. I'm just surprised?" "I know. He always says sleep is for tortoises." "You guys jealous?" Theon asked. Jesse nodded. "I'm not. Not now. I just?he doesn't take advantage of our almost unique open threesome as much as some do?" "Meaning me? Waddabout you?" Jeremy laughed. "I don't think he feels the need as much as we do." "He is?after all?alien." Theon stuck his head between the two of them, putting it between their shoulders. "Not as alien as all that," Jesse nodded to the bedroom. "After all, it IS Grayson Chance." Jeremy still had a drink in his hand and realized this. He handed it to Theon. "I know. I almost wanted to give Chance a try myself?" "They look so cute," Theon said. "Yeah," Jesse agreed. He moved to a closet in the bedroom and took out a comforter and gently opened it up over the Doctor and Grayson and covered them. As he exited the room, ushering the other two into the hall. "Do you think?? Do you think they did it?" "Hard to tell," Jeremy shrugged. He took off his shirt. "Time for bed." "Yeah," Theon said, unsure of himself. "Me, too. Well, guys, it's been fun but I have a group training class tomorrow and it's already really tomorrow?" Jesse raised an eyebrow. "See, we just traveled into the future." "Time slipping into?" Theon mock-laughed. "?so?take it easy, all right?" The other two could feel some hesitation or disappointment on Theon's part as if he felt this would be the last time he would see them on a personal basis. Jesse pointed, "Don't be a stranger. I?" He looked at Jeremy and amended what he was saying to, "?we?we like you, man." Jeremy nodded his affirmation, waved and went into the far side bedroom. "Okay," laughed Theon. Jesse showed him to the door. He whispered to Jesse, "Come with me." "What? Where?" "Back to my place. I don't wanna be alone?in bed, you know?" "But you just said?you were tired and needed rest before the?" "Jesse, I know what I said. So do ya? I mean I don't have all night?morning." He sounded so wistful. "If I know him, Jeremy's probably already asleep. I'll get some stuff and leave him a note." Once in bed, Jeremy fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. In the haze of the dreaming, a purple film covered his field of view. A huge pentagram. Jeremy tossed and turned. There were still some residual fireworks going off but they soon petered out. He realized Jesse must have gone for a "car ride" with Theon. And maybe even stayed at Theon's home. Did he say where he lived? Did he still live with his parents? He was, after all, only 21. Unlike he and Jesse, who hit celebrity much, much younger than 21, most 21 year olds still lived with their parents IF they lived in New York City or Long Island as Theon did. The few moments he had fallen asleep he recalled something passed between the creature's eyes and his forehead. It seemed to form a pentagram. He heard the Doctor saying something. Something he actually did say in the waking world. "Some beings store energy in the form of what looks like a pentagram. Usually in some kind of bone structure but some do so without bone and flesh. It's one of the universes' mysteries. But it can act as a neural relay. Even pass on energy to other beings and back again." "Doctor, help me," Jeremy murmured in his sleep. "I know where he?it?is." Jeremy moved to a smaller room and found three computers in it. One looked like it was from 1997 with a huge box, a dial up connection, and large backing to the monitor. He snickered at it and looked at another computer. One looked as if it has no connections but when he turned it on and looked at it?it seemed to be connected to everything. He decided to try to use that one rather than the ancient one or the one from 2015 as it was the third one and labeled as such. He searched for motorcycle monster information. After a while, he shut the light so as not to draw attention from the others. The blue light from the screen saver illuminated his face. He was up far too long?even the sound of fireworks went dead. He had to go?to bed?had to go?to the thing. The monster. The creature. He had to stop it. That's why he wanted to go. Light rained in through the blinds that were open in the Doctor's living room. Some of it cascaded to the front hallway. The Brigadier came out of the main hallway's bathroom, mid-shave. "Doctor?!" The Doctor, in the living room, sunk into a large plush chair, a floppy hat on his head, sprang up, the hat falling off. "Brigadier!!!" "What's wrong?" Grayson came out of the Doctor's bedroom, shirt off and a towel on his shoulder. His hair was wet. Clearly, he had been taking a shower in the Doctor's private shower within the Doctor's bedroom. Water trickled out of Grayson's fine navel. Down a smooth lower belly. Vanishing below. The Brig looked at this mere boy. He looked purebred American, Oklahoman or Texan, the Brig guessed. A wide open, boy-next-door face but perhaps too wide open. Maybe Irish, the Brig thought. Inviting face and sort of wild brown hair, thick and yet not too thick. Thick lips and infectious smile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greyson_Chance#/media/File:Greyson_Chance_2011.jpg And almost completely naked. While nowhere near as muscled as the Doctor's other two or three conquests regarding boys and men, this one had a dancer's body, a bit on the skinny side, almost completely hairless except for that mane of hair on his head, and there was nothing manly about him. Was he even 18? The Brig pondered this while quickly eyeing up the boy's bare wet feet, knees, and smooth stomach. In fact, everything was smooth about this boy. Too smooth? Cute as a button, though and perfect teeth. The Brig raised an eyebrow. The Doctor sighed. "Are you all right?" "All right? Me? Of course," he told them. "I just got a call from Yeats." "Yeats? THE Yeats? Were you nosing around in the TARDIS again, hit a wrong button have you?" "Doctor," the Brig tried to interrupt. The Doctor turned to the shirtless and water dripping from torso, chest dripping-wetness, Grayson, who wore a towel around his extremities. "Do you know that Yeats?" The Doctor realized what Grayson wasn't wearing. "Yeahhhhh. Did you know?uhm?I?" "Doctor, I thought something was wrong? Who's this?" "My good friend, Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart." Grayson put his hand out and shook the Brig's hand. The Brig looked at his wet hand and sighed. "So, you're the latest model." Grayson made a face at him. The Doctor went on with his first train of thought. "During s?ances held from 1912, a spirit calling itself "Leo Africanus" apparently claimed it was William Butler Yeats's--- Daemon or anti-self inspired some of the speculations in Per Amica Silentia Lunae. He was admitted into the Golden Dawn in March 1890 and took the magical motto Daemon est Deus inversus-translated as Devil is God inverted or A demon is a god reflected. He was an active recruiter for the sect's Isis-Urania Temple, first part of that is a very cool name, nothing at all to do with terrible terrorists or anything of that nature -shame the name is used for groups like, well anyway, the second part sounds like urine, doesn't it?" Grayson looked at the Brig for help, wide eyed and a bit stricken. The Brig sighed. That rant made him think of the blond fifth Doctor. "Doctor?" Grayson began to smile as the Doctor continued, ignoring both of them and waving his hands around as he spoke. "Isis and brought in his uncle George Pollexfen, Maud Gonne, and Florence Farr." "Doctor, not William Butler Yeats?I haven't time traveled. That's your gig, I must say." "Oh," said the Doctor and gripped the Brig's arms and let go and turned back to Grayson, who now smiled widely. "That's good. There was all that trouble with him two or three bodies back. Daemons and all that. Not what he expected were they? It's not fun messing with Mother or Father Nature?is it, Chance?" "You can call me?Grayson?" The Doctor gripped Grayson's shoulders now. "Good, good." Grayson backed off and rounded to the Brig. "Do you have any idea what he's talking about? Bodies? Daemons?" "Unfortunately, I, like he, have been perverted?" Grayson's eyebrows sprang up. "?by life experiences. So yes, young man, I do. Not to bother, he'll get round soon?" "Ahh, he's been other Doctors. There are other Doctors." "Yes." "NO!" The Doctor yelled at the Brig and then turned and yelled at Grayson, "NO! Other Doctors? There are no other Doctors. Just me, the original you might say." "Doctor, are you all right?" The Brig asked. "Of course I'm all right. Just waking up. In this body, waking up takes a little bit of time, a little bit of finesse?ahhh, Lethbridge Stewart?" He shakes the Brig's hand. "Good morning. Alistair." The Brig sighed and rolled his eyes again. "Have you just recently regenerated again? You're acting?.you know?funny turns?erratic as Choe Je?" He shut his eyes, "I mean K'anpo Rinpoche, I think, might say?" "Didn't you have something to tell us?" The Doctor turned and looked at Grayson and for his benefit, added, "Us?" Grayson kept his smile on. It was then the Doctor noticed a toothbrush in his hand. "Yes, my captain Yeats?" "Yates? Mike Yates? Captain Michael Alexander Raymond Yates!" "No, Doctor, now look, don't start that again! Yates is long retired but is thinking of returning to UNIT?after that Nest Cottage incident, you know. You know the one with the giant bees and wasps or whatever they were?hornets and Mrs. Wibbsey?" "Do I?" The Doctor whispered. "Yes after you and he and she?go back and?wait, I was out of it back then, a bit of a cold hit me hard and?" "Now, you're doing it," whispered Grayson as he leaned in toward the Brig. "See what he does to me?" "Actually, this is 2008 soooo?" The Doctor started. "Mike did rejoin UNIT." The Brig was astonished. "Really? Good on him, then. When did he?" "Oh, sometime quite soon, now, I imagine." The Brig sighed. "I'd say 2008 or 9." "Okay, I don't care, Doctor. I have been trying to tell you something while my shaving cream melts into my pores." "Poor shaving cream. I'll check on it!" The Doctor rushed up and out of the room and into the bathroom. "He gets like this around handsome boys," the Brig leaned in and stooped down to Grayson. Grayson laughed. This old guy was almost as charming as the Doctor. The Doctor rushed back to them. "Brigadier, you must cultivate a sense of urgency. WHAT have you been trying to tell me?" "He still drives me mad," the Brig told Grayson, who rubbed his own stomach. "Captain Ya?my captain called me on the radio, Trot fox Charlie. He heard a news report that?well, it seems that the Harbor Crab Company restaurant employees showed up a few moments ago and thought the place had been ransacked by burglars but as they got closer, they saw it was a deer?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLq_5NQd5IU http://longisland.news12.com/news/deer-breaks-into-harbor-crab-company-in-patchogue-1.6356788 "A deer!?? Oh dear! I know where that is?that's ten minutes from here?TO the BESSIE ?" The Doctor pointed a finger up into the air, his arm straight up and he ran. The Brig whispered to Grayson, "Twenty minutes by anyone driving normal speeds?" He turned and ran after the Doctor. "Damn it. I'm too old for this?" Grayson looked at his toothbrush. "I'm not." He ran back into the bed room and took off his towel. He opened a drawer and saw a pair of cut off jean shorts. "These in here from the 1970s? Time travelers, so prob were." He put them on fast. He didn't even have time to put on his sneakers as he heard Bessie start. He panicked as he thought the two were leaving without him. He just reached the car as it was pulling back, out the driveway. The Doctor slammed on the brakes. The Brig fell back and shot the Doctor an evil look for that. "What?" "I'm coming with you!" Grayson started to jump but the Doctor and the Brig put their hands out to indicate no. "It's far too dangerous!" The Brig said. "Listen, you?" Grayson started. "Yes, he's right." The Brig added, "You should stay here." "Yea. Yeah, I suppose you're right." Grayson said but as the car backed out, he jumped over the side of the car and into the back seat, "But I'm not going to!" The car was already moving. "I hope you know what you're doing, coming along. You know my life." "Blah blah blah, death and destruction, blah blah, monsters and historical battles and wars, blah blah?got it." "I hope you know what you're doing, letting a mere child come along." The Brig turned to the Doctor. Grayson stuck his head between the Doctor and the Brig as the Doctor drove at 90 miles an hour to reach Deer Park Avenue. Bessie's top was down. "I know compared to your far, far advanced age, I may seem like a child. But I'm not." The Brig shut his eyes and laughed. "You do have good taste, Doctor. I like this one, too." Grayson frowned and sat back. "Seat belts," the Doctor said absently but loudly. Grayson looked for them. He found one and put it across his slender but undefined, bare stomach. He then realized he was three fourths naked. "Okay, twenty minutes?" "Ten at his rate," the Brig nodded. "Seven!" The Doctor stepped on the gas. This made Grayson, who took his seat belt off, fall back into his seat. He had started to sit up and move his body toward the middle again to put the radio on. He braced himself as they turned a corner very fast. "Make that five with the minimum inertia super hyper drive activated!" "Is it?" The Brig asked. "Oh yeah. I just forgot to say MINIMUM INERTIA SUPER HYPER DRIVE ACTIVIATED!!!!" Grayson held the back of both seats and leaned forward and turned on the car radio. "Oh, I love this song!" The Brig chuckled and exchanged a look with the Doctor that went unnoticed by Grayson, who re-buckled back into his seat belt. Rule number one Is that you gotta have fun But baby when you're done You gotta be the first to run Rule number two Just don't get attached to Somebody you could lose So let let me tell you This is how to be a heartbreaker Boys they like a little danger We'll get them falling for a stranger, a player Singing I lo-lo-lo-love How to be a heartbreaker Boys they like the look of danger We'll get them falling for a stranger, a player Singing I lo-lo-lo-love you At least I think I do Rule number three Wear your heart on your cheek But never on your sleeve Unless you want to taste defeat Rule number four Gotta be looking pure Kiss him goodbye at the door And leave him wanting more, more This is how to be a heartbreaker Boys, they like a little danger We'll get them falling for a stranger, a player Singing I lo-lo-lo-love you How to be a heartbreaker Boys they like the look of danger We'll get them falling for a stranger, a player Singing I lo-lo-lo-love you At least I think I do Cause I lo-lo-lo-love you Boys we do whatever it will take Cause boys don't want We don't want our hearts to break in two Boys they like a little danger We'll get them falling for a stranger a player Singing I lo-lo-lo-love you As Bessie moved toward the scene, the restaurant set back in a scenic woody area, the trio could see a crowd gathered around the restaurant. A man in a button down shirt, no tie, was heaving a large power rifle. He looked like a civilian, maybe 30 years of age. The Brig started to take out his pistol but the Doctor snapped, "No, Brigadier, not this time." "But he's?" "I said NO!" "You've used guns before," the Brig reminded him. "To my shame." Grayson caught the Brig's stare and nodded yes and smiled. The Brig glared at him. Grayson then nodded a no to him and smiled. The Brig scowled and then, finally, he too, smiled. The man fired the rifle. In the restaurant, the deer went berserk and started hopping across tables, smashing glasses, knocking over napkin holders, and dropping forks and spoons. A bullet smashed just above its back. It rammed at a closed window and hurt its head. It turned and ran for a door area. The man took aim again. Grayson shouted, "He's not a very good shot." "That's what I'm afraid of!" The Brig warned. "He might hit someone else. Or us!" "Brigadier, take the wheel!" "What? Certainly not!" "You?what's your name again?" Grayson looked insulted and hurt. "Grayson!" "Grayson, by the time I've called that out?you could be?no, wait, that's as fast as say, saying Chance. Okay, Grayson, you take the wheel?" "I haven't?I don't?" Grayson looked frightened now as if he didn't want to disappoint the Doctor and made a grab for the wheel but hesitated? "Take a chance, Chance. Ha ha!" ?while the Doctor, hands on the steering wheel, hopped over the door to the running board on Bessie?waiting for Grayson to take the wheel from him? The Brig saw Grayson's dilemma, summed it up quickly, and took the wheel. "Oh, for Heaven's sakes!" "Of course, I remembered your name. Just keeping ya from getting too cocky." Grayson made a frown. The Doctor then added, before jumping from Bessie in full action-mode, "That cock stuff will come later." "Geronimo!!!!!" Grayson's eyes went wide and he lost his smile as the Doctor flung himself at the man with the high powered rifle. The Doctor put both hands around the man's sides and took him down with him. The gun went off and shot a tree. People, on lookers, who were watching, screamed and scattered. "Is it always like this?" Grayson smiled. "Yes, HE is," the Brig answered without cracking a smile. "He is?" "You don't know the half of it." The Doctor rolled with the man but only he came up. The man rolled over and looked at his gun. "You've smashed it." "I'll smash you, you try that again!" The Doctor yelled. "You could have killed that deer." The man stood up and held his back. "I'll?it's an animal?" "Why don't you shut up?" The Doctor snapped and the man looked as if he wanted to fight the Doctor. The man looked at the Doctor, who struck a Venusian Ju jitsu pose. "Never mind. I was just trying to help." "You're a perfect example of the inverse ratio between the size of the brain and the size of the gun?" The Doctor ran toward the restaurant, leaving the man to ponder what he meant by that last remark. "Say, you don't?I don't?you didn't take a gun!" "Never carry one. That's a request, not a statement about me. I almost never carry one. You shouldn't be allowed?.." On this last word, the Doctor whispered because he stepped over the broken glass and the window sill into the restaurant. The inside was a wild array of smashed chairs, broken window shards that were smashed inward by the deer when it came through it, and ruined seat cushions for the wall seats. Stuffing seemed ripped out by hooves. The deer froze. Head turned. It stared at the Doctor. Its teeth showed. It snarled at him. The Doctor was amazed. Deer don't snarl. It was also growling. The Doctor put hands out, palms open, to calm it. "Now, now. My dear deer?there's a good chap, are you? Keep?" The deer showed its teeth and with open mouth, ready to bite, charged at the Doctor in a full run! TO BE CONTINUED?
