explosion erupt near where he saw his brother headed! The shockwave sent
radioactive energy in every direction, some of it hitting Virgil, knocking
the boy unconscious for untold moments! When Virgil finally awakened, he
was back in his own bed..., wondering HOW'D he gotten there...?


	Over the next months, he started noticing strange [unexplainable]
things beginning to happen to him...; things like: cans, silverware, pots,
pans, and toaster ovens STICKING to him around the house! If he walked past
a television or a stereo, they would turn-on [or off] automatically!
Sometimes lights would flicker around him; at home, in school, even street
lamps would blink off and on as he walked underneath them! And he would
`accidentally' SHOCK people who would try to touch him!
	One day while being chased home by a mean dog that used to bark at
him every day when he passed by its backyard [in-route home]..., he held
his hand out [trying to prevent it from biting him as it flashed its
ferocious teeth]..., only to be electrocuted when electricity suddenly
shooting forth from his hand!
	At first Virgil's eyes were closed so he didn't see the initial
eruption of power string forth from his fingertips..., but he SAW the spark
of power dancing about his digits, as the dog lay before dying!


	Virgil ran home, locking himself in his room for days! He didn't
know what was wrong with him...? Was he going crazy? As time passed, he
eventually learned about his abilities and how best to use them for good!
In the beginning he did little things, like: rescuing cats from trees;
helping to jumpstart stalled cars for stranded drivers; and generate new
lights in the building complex he and his family lived in without ever
again having to change a lightbulb!
	But as time progressed and he became even MORE familiar with his
powers, he started doing bigger and grander things like: using his
telekinetic abilities to help stop car accidents from happening in front of
him; by assisting firefighters to help rescue people from burning
buildings; and stopping police pursuits by electrically shorting out the
bandits' cars...!
	Word of the young `black' [dread-head] superhero started buzzing
around town, as the codename: `Static Shock' was penned to him by local
reporters!


	PRESENT TIME: since the battle in Central Park [fighting demonic
stone gargoyles with a small group of OTHER super-powered beings
(chap-1)...], Virgil hasn't even had time to think about calling the number
Greyson had given him to contact!
	Over the past few days [despite school, homework, studying, and
family issues], he'd been helping police try to locate a serial arsonist
bent on destroying as much property [in the hood] as he could! Hundreds
were now homeless due to his various fires, completely gutting the
buildings internally and rendering them completely uninhabitable!
	Some of the residents [the elderly, single mothers with children,
etc.] begged him to FIND the arsonist before he accidentally killed
someone! Virgil took the requests to heart [having already `accidentally'
killed that dog with his powers]! He promised to help find the guy, as he
donned his `superhero' costume [black spandex pants, hoodie, and a white
(`robin'-like) mask] and rode an electrified trash-can lid for
transportation about the city [using his telekinesis to levitate and
fly]...!


	After scouring the city for days [after school], Static finally
caught a break when he spotted someone acting rather suspicious in an
alley...! Upon investigating he saw a fire ignite, and KNEW it was his boy!
He flew in fast [trying to get the arsonist off guard], when he found it
was no ordinary arsonist..., this guy was lighting fires with just his
HANDS..., proving Static wasn't the only `BANG BABY' [what Static called
the people closest to the explosion (the ones that didn't DIE immediately

	`HOTSTREAK' turned towards Static and shot living FLAMES from his

unconscious]! Static RAN over to make certain he didn't `accidentally' kill

	After making sure the authorities took him away for the arsons,
Static went home [to his `project' apartment complex]..., sneaking in from
the roof, where he quickly changed into civilian clothes then took the
stairs down to his floor!

to do his homework..., when he started to notice muffled sounds of

	"Must be your imagination playing TRICKS on you...?" continued
Virgil, knowing his brother was starting to doubt himself...! "By the
way..." he concluded, "...aren't you supposed to FLUSH those down the

"Trey wait...!" yelled Virgil, chasing after his brother [after they

"WHAT...?!" yelled Trey [wanting to get AWAY from Virgil]!
	Virgil stood in front of his brother [still staring]..., unable to
believe what he saw...!


"Are you..." he questioned, trying to piece together the events of THAT
night! "...a...a BANG BABY...?" he asked!
	Trey looked around [discreetly]..., making sure no one was close
enough to hear them...!


"What do YOU think...?" he asked [flippedly]! "YOU saw me!"

"TREY..." called the leader: Cornell [whom everyone started calling:
`Ebony' (now that his skin had gotten DARKER since `the explosion')...]!
"...you DOWN with us, or what?" he asked [ominously]!


"Trey...?" called Virgil, as his brother stood between him and his friends
[glancing back and forth (as if unsure which side to go with...?)...]!


"Don't hate me, Virg'...!" he repeated, before siding with his `friends',
walking away with them! Virgil had a sinking suspicion that that would be
the last time he saw his brother as HIS BROTHER...!

DAYS LATER...


	Virgil was riding the school bus home, when the driver stopped to
let an ARMY of police cars speed by the intersection, rushing to an
emergency! While everyone's eyes were upfront..., Virgil disappeared from
the emergency door in the back of the bus, running into a nearby alley
where he quickly changed into his costume, then took off [on a flying
trashcan lid] to follow the police sirens...!
	He hit pay dirt when the police barricaded the street in front of a
bank, indicating a heist happening inside! He was surprised to see Robin
[`the boy wonder'] standing beside the police sergeant, giving them
strategic orders of how to deal with the perpetrators...!


"Robin..." he said, flying in [jumping down off his lid]...! "...can I
help...? I'm..."


"I know WHO you are..." said Robin, reaching out to shake the boy's
hand...! "...you're Static Shock! I've been reading about you in the
news...!"


"Really...?" WOW! –thought Static [having hit the big leagues]!


"An eyewitness said there's at least 5 bandits in there...! We don't know
HOW many hostages they might have...? I was telling the Sergeant that I
might be able to get a better view of things if I snuck in and did a
recon...!
	"What do YOU think...?" he Robin, looking for Static's opinion...?


"oh, uh..." responded Static [unable to believe ROBIN THE BOY WONDER was
asking his opinion]...! "...a uh...a recon sounds good...!" he nodded
[ready to do whatever Robin said to do]...!


"I'm going in...!" said `the boy wonder', darting across the street [in his
red cape and tight green boy-shorts]...! Everyone watched as he run towards
the rear of the building..., disappearing down an alleyway [where he likely
slipped in through a locked backdoor or air vent]...!
	They waited for a short while, all officers positioned behind their
vehicles, hands on their weapons as they waited for Robin's que...!


"What's happening...?" asked the sarge, turning towards Static for
answers...!
	"Did he stop them already...? Should we AID him...? What's
happening...?"


"I...I dunno..." said Static [just as in the dark as they were]...!
"...I'll uh..., I'll fly over and check...!" he said, jumping on his lid
before gliding over to the front of the bank..., peering in through the
front windows...!


"THERE!" yelled one of the security guards, pointing at Static as he and
his guard friends opened fire [shooting out the glass front as Static
instantly put up a force-field to protect himself]...!
	Bystanders [outside] ran for cover...!


"WHY'R the guards shooting at ME...?!" asked Static [behind his protective
shield], using his telekinetic powers to YANK the weapons from the guards'
hands...!
	HE and the police rushed inside..., getting the story from inside
witnesses that said the robbers all wore costumes and had weird
super-powers...! The guards thought Static was ONE of them..., indicating
that the robbers were already gone with the loot!


"Where'd they go...?" asked the sergeant [looking around]...!


"Where's ROBIN...?" asked Static, realizing he MUST be in pursuit!
	"DAMN!" he said, leaping back on his trashcan lid before clearing
the building..., soaring up HIGH to get an aerial view ...!" He spotted
ROBIN chasing several guys a few blocks away [on foot]..., leaping and
somersaulting through the air to avoid their attacks!


	Static flew in to help, using his telekinesis to cut the guys off
by blocking their escape route with parked cars! One of the men [Boomer]
turned around and SCREAMED at him, sending a super-sonic shockwave in
Static's direction..., hitting him head-on despite throwing up one of his
protective shields...!
	Static went flying backwards into the side of an apt. building...,
the force of the shockwave causing the front of the building to
collapse...!


	Robin pulled a trick from his utility-belt, then fired
smoke-pellets at the screamer..., choking his voice in a cloud of thick
black smoke! Robin saw the HUGE shadow of his opponent coming in behind
him, as he front-flipped over the hood of a car to avoid being pummeled, as
the man [Onyx] swung from overhead, landing his huge hard fist into the
hood of the car, crushing it instantly!
	Robin responded by throwing explosive stun-pellets back at him, but
they did little beside tickle him [making him giggle]!


	Static blasted his way out of the rubble..., then hopped back on
his trashcan lid and continued his pursuit..., using his powers to
physically WRAP a street lamb around Onyx's big bull-sized body [to
incapacitate him]!
	Robin did the rest by leaping into Onyx's chest..., and smashing
teargas into his face..., the close-up affects finally putting the muscled
man down for the count!


	Static and Robin continued forth, chasing 2 more guys up into an
alley...! The 2 heroes came following behind..., blocking the villains'
exit as Robin came in low and Static up high!
	"Be careful, Static..." warned Robin, sensing the thieves
nearby...! "...they could be anywhere...!" he stated, just as a shadowy
figure came out of the corner...! Dick originally thought it was his OWN
shadow, but the mystery shadow quickly grabbed him, wrapping his forearm
about the neck of Robin [in a chokehold]!


"I've got your back, Robin...!" said Static, raising his arm to SHOOT the
villain in the back with an electrical bolt..., when he was suddenly
slammed in the face with an elongated arm/fist...!...knocking him off his
lid and into a pile of trash lining the alleyway!
	`It...it COULDN'T be...' –he thought to himself..., sitting up
[surrounded by trash bags]...!


	Just then he saw the Elongated-Man reach out and twist Robin's arms
and lets up with his rubbery limbs...! Using the opportunity against him,
Ebony [the dark shadow] BEAT Robin in the face several times, knocking him
down as he and his friend [Elongated-Man] escaped...!
	Static sat stunned, as Robin lifted up onto his hands and knees...!


"What...happened...?" he asked, looking over at the teenager...! "You
CHOKED in the middle of a fight...! Did you SEE something that scared
you...? Did you recognize one of the suspects...?" he asked, as Static
hopped back on his trash-lid and flew away...!


"geez..." sighed Robin, missing his days with The Batman at his side...!
