Chapter 4 - Confession

Harry was perched on the windowsill of his dormitory looking out over the
grounds of Hogwarts. He loved this view. It always seemed to focus his mind
and help him to relax, though it didn't seem to work tonight. His mind was
racing at 100 miles an hour. He felt so alone. Harry thought about
Hermione and Ron and how much he loved them both. He felt a pang of guilt
and fear in his stomach thinking about them, they didn't know about a big
part about his life. He was going to be brave and change that tonight.

Harry walked down the stairs to the common room, each step seemed to be
harder to take than the last. He really wanted to turn and run back up the
stairs and slam the door shut behind him. He palms started to sweat as soon
as Hermione came into view. She looked perfectly content curled up on the
sofa in the corner of the room. Hermione looked up from her book and they
made eye contact, Hermione smiled warmly and patted the spot next to her
inviting him to sit. He thought he was going to pass out. His mouth was
completely dry as he sat down on the sofa. He turned to face Hermione and
before he could even open his mouth to say hello Hermione had already
started to talk.

"Are you alright? You don't look very good Harry." Hermione asked with
genuine concern in her voice. Harry looked around the room, there were only
a few other students there. None he knew well and he figured they wouldn't
be able to hear him anyway. It was safe to speak.

"I'm fine...I just..well.. I need to tell you something and I have no idea
how you are going to react..."

Hermione studied Harry's face for a moment before folding the top corner of
the page down and placing the book on the table in front of them. She
brushed her long brown hair out of her face and turned her whole body
towards Harry, giving him her undivided attention.

"I'm your friend Harry. You can trust me with anything. We've been through
a lot and I don't think anything you can say to me will ever change that."

Harry felt a bit better already. Hermione always gave good pep talks. He
was glad that he was going to come out to her first, though saying the it
out loud to someone seemed like one of the most difficult things he would
ever have to do and Harry had already been through more than most.

"I'm.."

Harry looked down at his shoes. He couldn't look her in the eyes.

"I'm Gay..."

Harry could feel his eyes beginning to water, though he had no idea why. He
had accepted being gay and was not ashamed or filled with self hatred like
he used to be. He didn't think he would be so emotional but saying it out
loud must have had a big effect on him. Harry felt Hermione's light touch
on his shoulder and he slowly lifted his head to look at her once again.

Hermione smiled broadly and pulled Harry in for a tight hug, it lasted a
fair bit longer than a typical hug between friends. As they started to pull
away from each other, Hermione spoke into Harry's ear.

"I'm so proud of you."

That pushed Harry right over the edge and a single tear rolled down his
cheek. He wanted to leave before anyone spotted him crying. It would be
difficult to explain. As if reading his mind, Hermione said, "It's okay, go
back upstairs."

Harry was grateful that he had Hermione as a friend and before he started
to climb the stairs up to his room, he looked over at his best friend who
had picked up her book and had continued to read and said, "Thank you."

Harry was lounging about in the dorm. He was taking the time to sort
through all his things while no one was around. He could make a mess and
not worry about someone seeing anything that they shouldn't. Harry jumped
out of his skin when an owl swooped into the room through the open window
and dropped a letter at Harry's feet before flying straight back out again.

Harry picked up the green envelope and and studied it. It must have come
from someone in Hogwarts as the normal mail time was not until breakfast in
the morning, he then realised who must have sent him the letter. It was
green because it was Slytherin stationary.

Harry was hoping that Malfoy would reach out and try and talk. He thought
Draco would simply pretend that nothing ever happened and it would never be
mentioned again. He had butterflies in his stomach as he tore open the
letter.

Midnight Tomorrow. Same Place. Tell No One.

Harry wasn't sure what to make of this note. It could be a trick. Maybe
Malfoy wanted to punish him for what he did the other night. Maybe all
Draco wanted was for him to be his personal cock sucker. Harry thought
about that for a moment. If that was all he wanted, could he live with
that? He smiled as he realised that the answer was yes, but Harry hoped
that they could do some other naughty things as well...
