The Moonbase was a alight with moonlight...from other moons reflecting off a
giant blue/red/yellow sun, the biggest Moonbase Alpha had ever seen.
Traveling slowly past it, the Moon hardly took notice of it. Inside,
Commander John Koenig leaned onto a computer console. Helena was at his back,
resting a hand on his shoulder. Tony Verdeschi came from behind the two of
them, "John, it's allright. This time I think we've lucked out."

John turned, weary eyed, his hair whiter than it used to be, "Oh?"

"Maya predicts we will not come very close to it so it won't be a danger to
us."

"Say, that is good news," John smiled, forcing it.

"Yes, usually we're on a collision course with something," Helena laughed.

"Not this time, Dr. Russell," Maya smiled, rising from behind her console,
"In fact we might be actually able to harness energy from this soon and all
the moonlight reflecting from it."

"Really?" John turned to her, "That's great, Maya..."

"Yes I have this idea that..."

"Good," John cut her off, absent mindedly thinking about something else,
"Take care of it, Maya. I trust you will do your best."

Tony and Maya stared at him. Maya eyed Tony, who turned toward her, "Yes,
Commander."

"Helena," John turned to face his wife, "Can I talk to you in our quarters?"

"Well, okay, John," Helena said, "Bob and Ben are both on duty, so..."

"Fine," John pulled her arm, "C'mon then."

As the pair left, Maya and Tony watched them. Tony shrugged. "Maybe they
haven't...you know...in a long time?"

Maya nodded her head negatively. "I... don't... think it's that...something
else...something even more serious..."

Tony bit his lower lip, "I hope not ...we can use a break."

"Yes," Maya said absent mindedly.

"Right then," Tony said, "Why don't we get to work harnessing that energy?"

Maya dropped her shoulders. Even she was tired. Tony laughed, making her
laugh.

In their quarters, John sat on the huge double bed. "Helena..."

"What is it John?"

"Helena, I can't do this any longer," John put his hands over his eyes and
rubbed.

"John? You mean command?"

"Yes..."

"We've talked about this before..."

"Yes I mean command." He looked up at her and stood, holding her arms,
"Just hold me, Helena, hold me."

Helena did so and put her head on his shoulder, "John, you're..."

"I'm old, Helena. I don't have the stamina for this any longer."

Helena gulped. Was it true? It's been over 14 years since the Moon left Earth
orbit and John Koenig was showing his age. "69, John, 69 is not that old."

"But not that old isn't not old," John said, "Or something like that."

In hydroponics center, Jackie Crawford handed a bundle of roses to Shermeen
Williams. "These are for you. I thought...we could maybe get something to
eat."

"Oh Jackie, you're a sweetheart," Shermeen said, "You really are. Thank you
for the flowers."

"I made them myself," Jackie said. He winced, "I mean I raised them myself.
Grew them."

"You're a doll, kiddo," she gave him a fake punch. "You make this 35 year old
feel really happy and warm. Thanks so much."

Eddie Collins came over and put an arm around her, "What's going on?"

"Oh we were just finishing our shift," Shermeen smiled, "See what Jackie gave
me?"

"Nice," Eddie said and kissed her on the mouth. "Very nice."

Shermeen nodded, "Yes, someone's boyfriend might do the same."

Jackie turned red. He knew Eddie and Shermeen were close but working with
them in hydroponics, he should have realized they were going out. "Dinner
time." Eddie told Shermeen.

Shermeen looked at Jackie, "Raincheck?"

"Sure," Jackie nodded, "But problem is there's no rain on Moonbase Alpha, not
of water really."

"Remember the time on...we had air and we had rain...oh but you were just a
baby." Shermeen said this without any malice.

Jackie turned redder. "Yeah. Well..." He turned and waved, "Have a great
dinner." He left there quick.

Eddie watched him go, "Poor kid, he's got a crush on you, you know."

"Jackie?" Shermeen asked, "Really?" She was not sure, "I guess so," she
smelled the flowers.

Alone in his cabin, Jackie Crawford fussed about. He was angry, depressed,
and upset. He paced. Everyone on Alpha was older than he was. No other babies
were allowed to be born in 1999. Traveling on the Moonbase, only he was the
one, the lucky one to be born. He ran his hair through his brown curly hair
and looked into a mirror in his lavatory. His cherubic, youngish face made it
even more difficult to make any of the adults on Moonbase Alpha take him
seriously. He went back out to his lounge area and opened the set of windows
along his room. Even though Moonbase Alpha had been moved down below the old
MainMission, he had made sure he could have a room above level, much to
Koenig's dismay. He was hardly ever in it anyway and during difficult times,
which were few and far between since breakaway year three, there were less
and less threats to Alpha that could endanger him. His mother had died when
he was 8 years old and thus, he was raised by Alan, Tanya, Helena, and Koenig
among others. Of course, his favorite was Maya since he felt as much like an
alien as a real alien from another planet: he grew up under the eyes of those
who recalled the threat he made to Moonbase Alpha when he was only zero years
old...it wasn't really him of course, it was this Jarak alien. His mother had
died from some unknown form of radiation cancer and since it was a form of
space disease, luckily it was fast. Jackie took off his shirt. Suddenly, from
the set of window, a wide range of rays came through. Brightness. Blinding
brightness. Yet Jackie could see it without much of a problem.

In the light, came a dark shadow. An outline of a man. Arms. Legs. Head. Then
two intense eyes: one blue eye on the left side above a parted head of
extremely long hair. On the right side, the eye was brown. The head of hair
was parted in the middle, the part being the middle ground, for on the right
side the hair was bright blond and on the left side the hair was jet black
above the blue eye. This contrast of color didn't make him unattractive. On
the contrary the boyish, handsome face was handsome to the extreme.
Classically handsome. And he was totally naked and his body was one that was
to be wanted. Well muscled. Nice stomach. Outtie belly button ridge to an
innie belly button. He was taller than Jackie and he was also quite large
where it counted. He looked at Jackie, who was speechless.

The light began to fade. The alien moved toward Jackie and Jackie stared at
him. They embraced. Jackie returned a deep kiss the alien put on his mouth.
Outside, the moonlights from various moons changed color to deep red, light
orange, blue, green, a spiral of changing colors. Jackie put his arms around
the bare, smooth back of the boy. The alien did the same.
