Someone was shaking me when I jumped up.
"Are you ok man?" asked a voice I couldn't recognize. I turned
around and found myself staring into the most beautiful green eyes I had
ever seen on anyone. She smiled sweetly down at me and I blushed.
"Yah, I think I just fell asleep," I mumbled quietly.
"Well you were shaking a bit hard so I just came by to make sure
everything was ok."
"Thanks for your concern. There's one question I would like to ask
though. Was there, any, uh sort of, battle or something here?" I asked
hesitantly. The girl stared back at me blankly, a puzzling glance in her
eyes. I think she was wondering whether I was sane or not.
"No.....there' was no attack. Are you sure you're doing ok?"
"Yeah. I just need some sleep. Good night."
"You do that and take care. By the way, name's Linda."
"Nice to meet you. My name's" I froze for a second remembering I
couldn't use my real name lest it cause problems. I racked my head for some
creative names and pulled a blank. And out of nowhere, something whispered
to my brain Jade. So naturally I went with it, "name's Jade."
"Well nice to meet you to. If you need anything, just ask."
"Thanks. But uh, could you show me where room 257 is?"
"257!? Uh right this way," she hesitantly turned to show me the way
there. I noticed her give me a side-glance and wondered what the room
number 257 meant. I took one step forward, and the hairs on the back of
spine stood on foot. I spun around immediately and looked around
me. Nothing, but I could swear something, or worse, someone, was watching
me. The question is who or what. And why. So many questions and I didn't
have a single answer. When I once more tried to continue forward, I heard
noises in the bush. I yanked around again and stared to the place where I
last heard the sound.
"Jade, you ok?" asked a concerned Linda. She was giving me that eye
again, the eye girls give you when they're like 'come on, I don't have all
day for this, I need to go shopping.' "Is something the matter?"
	"There's something out there."
"No there isn't. The security system would have picked it up a long
time ago. Plus, I would be able to see it. My ability is the power to see
through anything. I can also mimic it, a very handy ability."
"Shhh...." I could sense it. Somehow. My body seemed to be gearing
up for something. When I should have been feeling tense and freaked out, I
was feeling very calm and quiet. I looked around and noticed the wind
chimes were shaking. Only problem was that there was no wind. I pointed it
out to Linda and she stared at it for a moment and she concluded that it
was a prank.
"There are a lot of mutants here who just absolutely love to play
pranks and cruel tricks on people. It's just another of these. Don't worry
about it. I mean," I rose up my hand and cut her off. I could definitely
sense something. It was moving, stalking me. An eerie feeling came over
me. I turned to Linda, and told her, "go get Charlene now. Please, there's
no time to explain. It's an emergency." She looked at me slightly odd and
seemed to think it would be wiser to just comply than argue and so went
ahead and ran up to Charlene's room. Meanwhile, I stood there in the dark,
alone and unguarded with a something out there. I braced myself as my body
grew tense all of a sudden. I didn't know why or how but I knew something
was about to attack me and I was doing everything I could to get ready, and
it was all on autopilot too. It was as if I was watching a bad movie from
an even worse TV set where you know something is about to happen but you
can't see everything happening.
I closed my eyes and reached out with my senses. Whatever it was,
or whoever it was, was getting ready for its attack. I just hoped I was
ready.

	"Sapphirot!"
"What?" answered a quite disgruntled Sapphirot.
	"Are you ready?"
"Do I have to go out there?"
	"Yes. You promised them."
"But I'm not in the mood. I don't feel so good."
"You've been saying that for the past two days Sapphirot. I'm you
best friend, you can tell me what's wrong."
	"I don't know Dustin. It's these weird dreams I've been having. I
mean I'm not even asleep sometimes and I dream about these things. They
just happen and during that time, it's like time stops and nothing else
matters."
"Well, what are they about" asked Dustin, one of Sapphirot's true
friends. They had been friends for as long as either could remember.
"It's always something jade, or someone with jade eyes."
"Does it have anything to do with, you know," Dustin couldn't
finish the question as he was scared to the reaction that Sapphirot might
have.
'I think it is Dustin. And I'm scared. I don't want to relive it."
"You won't relive anything Sapphirot. You have to do this. You have
to remember; otherwise you'll never be at rest."
"But why does it have to be so hard?"
"Because your you Sapphirot, you've never done anything the easy
way, and I don't want you to mar that record."
Sapphirot let out a deep sigh and stood up as he gathered his
coat. He wasn't about to just go back to his house. He had to go to and
deliver the news to Luzio. It sure wasn't going to be plesant. He looked up
to the moon and found once more that it wasn't the white it should be, but
the jade that plagued his mind. Why?

Charlene was meditating when she sensed disturbance coming towards
her. Before she could get up her door bust open and in rushed a frantic
Linda.
"Mam, Jade said he needed you. I think he might be losing it,
saying something is in the yard when the security has picked up nothing. I
tried to explain it to him but it was to no avail."
Jade? thought Charlene. And it hit her then, Jaden. "Lead the way."
And off they both rushed down to the yard.

________________________________________________________

I heard the rustling of the grass and the wind bent a little to the
left. With eyes still closed, I formed my hands into fists and prepared my
whole body. Now was the time to test out all that martial arts training I
had gone through. If only I had a katana, it would be so much
easier. Rustling to the right, then to the left, and then it was behind
me. I swung my left leg out and flipped to the right when I felt the ground
vibrate and shake. In the moonlight, I saw my aggressor and let out an
earsplitting scream. And it carried all the way to...

________________________________________________________

Sapphirot was about to get in his car when he clutched his ears and
fell to the pain. A loud scream had erupted in his ears and he had no idea
where it was coming from. He opened my eyes and found everything was a deep
jade except for one path. A path that seemed to continue on to the end of
his eyesight. With the shout gone, the pain dissipated and he got into his
car. He tried to blink his eyes, but no matter what he did, everything was
jade except for the path that stood in front of him. The car yanked into
the path and shot straight ahead, the mystical powers of the wind helping
it pick up speed until it hit 200 miles per hour to which time everything
around him shone with a brilliant jade. He stopped the car and got out. He
had no idea where he was but he knew something was here that he needed to
see. He ventured to the area which was the brightest and the sight which
greeted him made his skin crawl.
There before him stood an ethereal koyux, a beast of the dead. Its
powers were rumored to be extraordinary and only the strongest of the
mutants had but a chance. The koyux had its back to him and Sapphirot was
unable to see who its victim was. Should he help, he thought to
himself. Before he could make up his mind, the koyux shot into the air and
landed in the next instant about 50 feet ahead of its previous location. He
saw movement to his left and before he could realize what was going on,
someone ran into him and they both tumbled to the ground. He looked up and
found himself staring into jade eyes. He then knew he had found the owner
of those eyes that plagues his visions and memory. But who was this person?

_________________________________________________

The beast stuck again and I dodged away again. I looked back at it
and found it staring back at me. If I wasn't so scared shitless, I would
found the whole standoff knee-slapping funny. But now, my life was at
stake. The thing shot into the air and I immediately ran to my right and
was propelled forward by the force of the impact the thing had onto the
ground. I tumbled forward and tripped into someone. We both tumbled to the
ground and I opened myself and found myself looking into the most dazzling
sapphire eyes. As I was trying to get up, I felt the wind blowing up and I
then knew that the thing had reared itself and was getting ready to
strike. I whispered to he boy underneath me, "get ready to run. On my count
to five, run to the left and I'll run to the right. One...two...five." He
and I both shot up and ran separate both directions. I turned around and
saw that the boy was safe and that the damned creature was still in one
piece, ever after all those times of ramming onto the ground.
"FIRE!" I heard someone yell whose voice distinctly resembled
Charlene's. The air was suddenly alighted with zaps and shocks and bolts
and other various explosions as they all found their target at the beast. I
gently ran around it and searched for the boy. I found him hiding crouching
down. I started walking to him hoping he wasn't hurt when I say his eyes
were burning white. I stopped dead in my tracks as he raised his hands into
the air and an enormous lightning bolt shot from the sky and hit its target
at the center of the beast's body. I saw that the thing was fried but it
still kept slithering to me. As another lightning bolt came down, I saw the
whole thing. The thing was like a huge serpent. Its body was covered in all
scales, pitch black, and was about 60 feet long. Its head was about 10 feet
wide and 15 feet long. Huge fangs extended down from its mouth as it
continued slithering towards me. I looked over at the boy and he was still
concentrating on the bolts.
I knew I had to lead the damned snake away from the boy so I took a
chance and ran for it, across the plain directly across from the
snake. What I didn't expect was its tail to come flying towards me. It
caught me in the stomach and I flew back 100 feet and landed with a thud
and my head pounded against the ground. I heard a few ribs and bones crack
but at least I had gotten the beast away from the boy as it now started to
move towards me.

________________________________________________________

Charlene quickly rushed out onto the patio and was greeted with the
back of the head of a koyux. She sent out to a message to the whole
university and soon, every student and teacher was awake and on the
outside. <Everyone, get ready to fire everything you have at the snake
thing. To those of you that know what koyux means, that's what it
is. Ready, be patient. "FIRE!" Everything went towards it but just as she
guessed, the koyux only shook the blast off. Out of nowhere came a sizzling
lightning bolt that hit dead center on the beast. Charlene looked around
but found no one firing. She knew it could be no one on her side because no
one could summon such powerful bolts alone, and there was only one person
who could. The simple thought chilled her to the bone. But she had no time
for this. As she prepared for a psychic assault on the koyux, she saw Jaden
run out of his hiding place. Before she could warn him, he was caught with
the force of the koyux's tail. Never had she seen a koyux move that
fast. It could only mean one thing; this was a royal koyux but why? No time
for that now she thought. She had to make a decision, and she had to do it
now. She ran down to her room and again, and blasted open a wall and placed
in all her psionic functions, capabilities and codes that unlocked the
safe. She quickly dug through it and found what she was looking for. She
rushed back to the open air and searched for where it was. She saw the
koyux and an injured Jaden trying in vain to run from it. Now or never she
thought, praying that it worked. <Jaden, this is Charlene. I'm throwing to
you a katana. You said you knew how to use one. Well, use this. Just make
sure whatever you do, never look the snake in the eyes. And one other
thing, read the inscription on this blade.> With that, she flung the katana
into the air and straight towards Jaden.

________________________________________________________

I heard a twang and found a stunning beautiful and slender katana
about a foot away. Without taking time to marvel at its beauty, I took the
hilt and pulled it out. I looked at the name and read it out loud...

________________________________________________________

Sapphirot kept shooting the bolts at the koyux but the koyux was
only shaking them off. He tried harder and harder and it seemed to be
working. The koyux was slowing down slightly. He just hoped the boy was
okay because the boy had led the beast away from him and was hit in the
process. He heard Charlene's yells and paid no attention to them,
concentrating on his relentless attacks. He saw a blade fly through the air
and then he stopped firing his bolts and his eyes lost their glow as he
heard the words that chilled him to the bone...

________________________________________________________

..."Ya Soshla S Uma." Seeing nothing happen and the beast suddenly
stop in its tracks I used the opportunity to race toward the snake. It
might have been suicide, but I wasn't about to surrender to a snake. As I
leaped into the air, katana outstretched, I saw the two things that
Charlene told me not to, its eyes. I now understood why, because those eyes
were not eyes, but empty, void holes that bore into my very soul. I tried
to shake off the feeling while I was trying to attack but I gave it enough
to strike. It swung its head towards me. I was able to dodge the fangs but
I was hit with the whole force of its gigantic head. I was sent flying back
yet I was able to use the katana to soften and reduce my drop.
I looked back at it and found that I could see nothing but those
eyes now. I tried to blink but all I saw were those eyes. As I head an
intake of breath, I knew it was preparing for the final attack, the fatal
blow, the last one, and me as its prey. In slow motion, I swung out the
katana in a move I had never known I could do before, with my eyes closed,
I prepared to defend myself. As I took my stance, something in me told me
form in a certain way and so I complied, feeling nothing could go worse. As
soon as that thought crossed my mind, I regretted it. For the snake had
leaped into the air and was coming straight down at me. All the bolts and
zaps and explosions were doing nothing to slow it down. In fact, it seemed
to spur the beast on even more. I took my stance and lurched into the air,
katana facing straight ahead. And that's when I heard it, the voices.

________________________________________________________

Charlene tried in vain to keep up the barrage. Her breath caught in
her throat as she saw the koyux prepare for its kill. She was about to rush
in there herself when she head the song. The song of which helped the
wielder of the katana perform the most complicated art forms. She stood
stock-still as she saw the stage and play and actors, putting on the final
act.

________________________________________________________

Jaden stood up and prepared to rush in and was nearly halfway there
when he say the koyux spin into the air and begin its descent. He pushed
himself harder and when he was about three-quarters of the way there, she
froze as he heard an ancient song, the song, Ya Soshla S Uma.

________________________________________________________

Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona
Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona

YA SO-SHLA S U-MA

I jumped into the air and swung the katana right into the right
eye. The monster cried out in pain, the first noise I heard come out from
it. The thing veered off to the right. Big mistake. I did an uppercut and
took out the left eye as well. The monster yelled in pain and its tail came
out and swung at me.

Menya polnostyu net
Absolyutno vser'ez
Situastsiya help
Situastsiya SOS

I was able to dodge the tail and clung to its scales as I started
shredding the scale I was on to pieces. Just as I was doing that, I heard
the tail come up for me. In the last moment I jumped up and landed on the
middle part of the tail as the beast took a beating to its already
shattered body from its own tail. I heard a sickening crush as the beast
impaled itself with its tail.

Ya sebya ne pojmu
Ty otkuda vzyalas
Pochemu, pochemu?
Na tebya povelas

Vyklyuchaestsya svet
Ya keuda - to lechu
Bez tebya menya net
Nichego ne khogu

I took the opportunity and swung my katana at the tail. It found
its mark and the beast gasped as its tail was cut in two. The thing started
writing in pain and it was able to buckle me off. Big mistake. I seized the
chance and hopped onto the ground.

Eto medlennyj yad
Eto svodit s uma
A oni govoryat - vinovata sama
A oni govoryat - vinovata sama

Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona
Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona

Somehow, these words stuck a chord with my heart and I started to
sing. As I sung, my whole body relaxed and the mere instincts and the
katana's power took over. I ran to the beast and just wildly started
slashing at its body. Howls and screams filled my ears but all I could hear
was the song and my own voice.

YA SO-SHLA S U-MA
MNE NU-ZHA 0-NAAAA

Bez tebya ya ne ya
Bez tebya menya net
A oni govoryat
Govoryat et bred

Eta solnechnye yad
Zolotye luchi
A oni govoryat
Nado srochno lechit

Ya khotela zabyt do upora I vniz
Ya schtala stolby I Rusteryannykh ptits
Bez tebya menya net, otpyasti otpyasti
Do ugla po stene mama-papa prosti...

Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona
Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona

Raz, dva posle pyati
Mama papa prosti
Ya so-shla s u-ma
Raz, dva posle pyati
Mama papa prosti
Ya so-shla s u-ma

In a last effort, I reached back, and bellowed out the words, and
threw the katana straight at what I assumed to be location of the beast's
heart. Sure enough the katana went right through body and out the other end
and at its tip, stood a gross looking organ-like thing which I assumed to
be the heart. I ran across and flipped over the tail fo the dying beast and
plucked the sword away from the heart and prepared for my final attack.

Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona
Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Mne nuzha ona, mne nuzha ona

Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma
Ya soshla s uma, ya soshla s uma...

I leaned into the blow and struck with my legs first and stabbed
its head with my blade, followed by pushing the blade in with both of my
hands. Then, before I could fall back to the ground, I performed a trick
that I never even knew existed. Whatever it was though, sent the blade
right through into the body which immediately killed the already dying
beast. I stood there bloodied and exhausted, gasping for breaths as I saw
Charlene, the whole university, and the boy come running to me. I started
to collapse when the boy caught me in his arms. At that precise moment,
Charlene chose to shout "SAPPHIROT!"

The boy looked back down at me and whispered, "I'm sorry I cannot
stay. I don't know who you are, but your eyes plague me wherever I go. I
intend to figure out why. This is goodbye for now."
