is based on the series Star Trek Voyager but with a twist from the original
story line and i hope you like it.


Chapter 6: An old Friend Returns

"The time is 05:30" announced the computer. I so didn't want to be woken up
right now. I nudged Tom who was still fast asleep and he didn't move. I'll
leave him while I head in the shower I thought. So I walked in to the
bathroom "Computer activate sonic shower" I called out. I looked in the
mirror and knew I looked like shit. I stepped out of my boxers and went
into the shower and felt the sonic pulses dissolving every ounce of dirt
from last night. "Shower complete. Exit when ready" called the computer. I
walked out and wrapped a towel around my waste. I walked back into the
bedroom and it was still poorly lit. "Computer lights" I called out. The
lights came on at full brightness and I looked to tom that was still fast
asleep. Wow this guy needs to get up I thought to myself. So I sat next to
him and kissed him on the forehead and he didn't even twitch, so then I
nudged him hard and he still didn't move so I walked over to the replicator
"Water cold" I called. A glass of water appeared and I took it and walked
over to tom in bed and flicked a bit of water on him and his nose twitched
but he still didn't move. "Right you've asked for this" I said with smirk
on my face. And at that I threw the water over him and he immediately shot
up. "About bloody time" I said. "What... what time is it?" he asked
me. "06:00" I said. "Why didn't you wake me sooner?" he asked. I laughed
and said "I did try babes but you were out like a light so I figured that
throwing water over you was the best way short of calling for a red alert."
He got out of bed all his manhood on display. "Now get in the shower and
I'll get us some coffee and if you hurry we can still get to the mess hall
for breakfast" I told him. He walked into the bathroom as I made the bed
and got into my uniform. Just as he walked out of the bathroom I was
getting our coffees. I handed him a coffee as he got dressed. I checked the
time and it was 06:15. He finished getting dressed and we put down our
coffees and headed out the door hand in hand.

Just as we were about to step in the turbolift the ship shuddered. "Red
Alert, All hands to Battlestations" called the bridge. Tom and I
immediately ran into the turbolift and went to engineering. So much for
breakfast. I walked into see the night crew still on duty and no sign of
B'Elanna. "Carter to Torres are you on your way to the bridge or do you
want me to head up there?" I asked. "Jack I'm on my way to engineering so
if you could get to the bridge that would be great" she told. "Understood."
I clicked off my commbadge and looked at Tom "You're in charge until
B'Elanna gets here." I told him. I immediately ran for the turbolift and
called out "Bridge" The turbolift immediately sprang into action and few
seconds later I walked on to the bridge as the ship took another hit. I
looked around to see that none of the senior staff were on duty. Of course
not they don't arrive until 07:00 but the captain and Chakotay would be on
their way. Lieutenant Davis who was the night watch commander was up and
giving orders. "Mr Davis, as I am senior out of the two of us, I'll take
the bridge" I told him. Reluctantly he stood aside and I said "Helm bring
us about to the 315 mark 060 and prepare to go to warp." I looked at
tactical and noticed that it was Alex, I didn't realise he was on nights
mind you I hadn't spoken to him for a few days. "Alex, target their weapons
systems and hail them. Who are they anyway?" I asked. "It's the kazon Jack,
and there have been no response to hails." He told me. "Very well fire" I
ordered. At that he lay down phaser fire and the ship took another
hit. "Arm photon torpedoes and fire again" I said. Just as he did the
captain, Chakotay, Paris, Kim and Tuvok all stepped the turbolift and each
took their respective stations. The captain came over to me and said "Jack,
thank you but I'll take over. Who is it?" she asked. "The kazon" I told
her. "Evasive manuveurs Mr Paris." She ordered. "A rift is forming in the
starboard shields" called out Tuvok. "Compensate" ordered the captain. I
carried on working and ignored what they were saying until I heard Tuvok
say "The rift is continuing to expand now at 2meters. Captain I picking
another ship a lot smaller and it appears to be on a direct course for the
opening in the shields." It was on a collision course. My God. "Brace for
impact" called the captain and just as I had braced myself the ship took a
huge jolt which sent me flying out of my chair. They had hit. The next
thing I heard was the computer shout "Intruder Alert in cargo bay 2" "Mr
Tuvok" shouted the captain. "Tuvok to security meet me outside cargo bay 2"
he shouted. He left the bridge and I went over and took tactical at the
captain's request. "Mr Carter, thank you for taking the bridge in my
absence" said the captain. I nodded and she smiled just as an alarm went
off on her command console. "Mr Kim, did you re-route power to transporter
room two?" asked Chakotay. "No sir." Replied harry. "Jack I want you down
there now." Said the captain. I grabbed a phaser and ordered Harry to
transport me just outside transporter room 2. As I materialised there were
two kazon waiting just down the corridor. One of them fired at me but I
ducked and ran in to the arch of a door. Not the greatest place but it
would do. I looked round and saw one very close. I gripped my phaser and
whirled round and fired hitting him the chest. He fell to the floor
immediately but not before the other one fired at me and hit me in the
shoulder which sent me stumbling to the floor. Luckily it was my left
shoulder and I'm right handed so as I fell to the floor I took aim and
fired straight at him and he fell straight to the floor. Heaving myself up
I ran into the transporter room just as the kazon were beaming away. I
noticed a panel open and went across to it. I didn't really feel the pain
in my shoulder. I ran down from the panel and went over to the control
area. "Carter to Bridge" I called. "The Kazon have got away and they have
taken one of our transporter..." and that's all I got out because the next
thing I knew I was looking at the ceiling with bloody pouring from my side
and in true pain. It seems that one of the kazon from the corridor hadn't
been as hurt as I thought and he had just stabbed me in the side. The last
I saw of him was him beaming away. "Jack? Please report they've taken one
of our transporter what?" came the captain's voice. "Ahh" was all I
said. "Jack? Medical team meet me in transporter room two" I heard the
captain say. Then I blacked out.

The doors to the transporter room swung open and the captain and kes came
running into the transporter room where they found me lying unconscious and
blood pouring from my side "Jack" called the captain. But I didn't
wake. The captain grabbed kes's med kit and got out a tricorder "He has
massive internal bleeding we need to get him to sickbay. Janeway to bridge
three to beam directly to sickbay" she said. "Sorry Captain, transporters
just went down" replied Kim. "Damn it" shouted the captain. "Alright, Tom,
Harry Chakotay get down here right now I need you to run. Jack Carter has
been stabbed and we need to get him to sickbay immediately or he won't
survive." She ordered. "On our way". Seconds later Harry, Tom and Chakotay
came in to the transporter room and slowly the three of them and the
captain lifted me. "Keep him straight, otherwise he will loose even more
blood." She said. With the captain holding my head and Chakotay holding my
feet and with Tom and Harry keeping hold me from the middle they slowly
carried me to sickbay. As they left the transporter room more blood came
out of my side dripping on the deck. "Stop. We need a stretcher or he will
die before we get him there. Tom run down to cargo bay 1 it's just down the
corridor and find something that we can use as a stretcher." She said. A
few seconds later tom came back with a stretcher "I found this in a medical
container" he said. Slowly they lifted me on to it. "Tom, Harry get back to
bridge and don't mention this to B'Elanna or Ensign Walker. They need to
focus on repairs. Tell B'Elanna to meet me in cargo bay two I'll meet her
there after Chakotay and I have taken Jack to sickbay" she said "Yes ma'am"
he replied. They carried me to the turbolift and pretty soon we were in
sickbay. "Computer activate EMH" said the captain. The doctor appeared
"Please state the nature of the medical emergency" he said. "Lieutenant
Carter has been stabbed he has massive internal injuries." Said the
captain. They placed me down on the biobed and the doctor said "Alright
everyone out of here now, Kes get me 50cc's of Anestizine and prep for
surgery. I also need you to sinithize a litre of blood" he said. The
captain and Chakotay left and left the doctor too it. "He better survive
Chakotay or I swear I will make Seska pay, he's a fine man and a good
officer and more than that he's a friend. I can't imagine what Tom or
B'Elanna will say."

20 MINUTES LATER

"B'Elanna could stick around for a minute" said the captain after everyone
had left the cargo bay after examining the shuttle that was stuck in the
ship. "Sure captain what is it?" she asked. The captain walked up and said
"I have some bad news and you need to know. Jack has been stabbed and is in
surgery right now. The doctor says he should make a complete recovery but
at the moment he's on life support while the doctor and kes seal the wound
and treat him." There was silence before B'Elanna spoke "BITCH!" she
screamed. "I swear captain, if I get my hands on Seska I'm going to make
her suffer for this. Jack and Tom are two of my closest friends and he's a
good man, he doesn't deserve this. Has anyone told tom?" she asked. "Not
yet, I wanted to tell you first as I want you there when I inform him."
Said the captain. "Alright, but I think we better do it soon or Tom is
going to ask the computer for Jacks location and if he hears he's in
sickbay he will be down there in a flash." Replied B'Elanna. Just as the
words left her mouth her communicator chirped "Walker to Torres" he
called. "Go ahead Tom" she answered. "Is Jack with you? I just need his
help with re-adjusting the starboard plasma manifold; you know how much of
a perfectionist he is." He said. "Yeah I do, actually he's a bit busy right
now, but the captain wants to see you in her ready room right away. She
just called me and asked me to take you there so I'll meet you on the
bridge in 10 minutes" B'Elanna replied. "Okay I'll meet you there" tom
replied. A few minutes later the captain was sat back in her ready room
waiting to break the news to Tom with a coffee in her hand. Silently she
had prayed that Jack would make it through and she was sure that when she
was back in her quarters tonight she would feel the pain, but she knew that
the moment her shift ended that she would be in sickbay checking on
him. She was brought back to reality when her door chime went off. "Come
in" she said. The doors opened and in walked B'Elanna closely followed by
Tom Walker. "You sent for me captain." He said. "Yes Ensign, please sit
down." He looked at B'Elanna nervously and then finally sat down with
B'Elanna following suite and sitting next to him. The captain looked at him
for a second and then finally said "Look Tom, I'm afraid I have some bad
news... it's about Jack" Fear filled his faced before he said "What? What
happened to him?" he said "Calm down Tom, Look earlier during the attack I
sent Jack to transporter room 2 after we discovered that the Kazon were
there, it was during that time he was shot in the shoulder, nothing serious
and when he entered the transporter room he discovered something wrong,
however during his report to the bridge he was stabbed in the side. When
Kes and I found him he was unconscious. I've just received a report from
the doctor and he's still working on healing the knife wound, but the
injury was deeper than he thought and the prognosis isn't good" she told
him. "Oh my god..." he whispered as tears rolled down his face and pretty
soon he was crying. The captain gave him a hug and supported him. "Sickbay
to Captain Janeway" called the doctor over the comm. "Yes doctor" she said
"I'm pleased to say that I have healed Mr Carter and he's resting now, the
surgery went well and he should be up and about in a few hours." He told
her. "That's wonderful doctor when can he have visitors?" she asked. "I can
wake him now if you would like but please no more than three people to
visit this time, I don't want to put undue stress on him and even then they
will have half an hour and then he must rest" he told her. "Very well
doctor we're on our way" she said. She smiled as did Tom and B'Elanna and
together they walked out of the ready room and into the turbolift.

MY ACCOUNT CONTINUES FROM HERE

I opened my eyes and fluttered them a bit as I got used to the light and
when I finally came around I found Tom, The captain, B'Elanna and The
Doctor and all around me "What.... What happened?" I said. I tried to sit
up and yelled out in pain "Don't try to move Mr Carter you took a serious
wound to your side." Said the doctor. He turned and left. "Baby I'm so glad
your okay" said tom tears rolling down his cheek. I smiled as he kissed me
and then the captain said "Jack what's the last thing you remember?" I
looked at her and said "I was making my report to the bridge about the
Kazon taking the transporter module and then suddenly I felt blood pouring
out my side and then I guess I lost consciousness" I told them. "What
happened with the Kazon?" I asked. "Well we know who convinced the kazon to
take our transporter module... it was Seska. She was the one who gave the
kazon the command codes to get through our shields and then how to find the
transporter module. It was one of the kazon who stabbed you in the side who
you found in the corridor outside the transporter room." Explained the
captain. "WHAT?!" yelled Tom. "You missed that part out when you told me
he'd been stabbed... why didn't you tell me it was Seska?" he
shouted. "Tom, calm down what difference would it have made if I told you
it was Seska?" asked the captain. "Tom, baby she's right there's nothing
you could have done" I replied. "Now Tom could you excuse us, there's
something I need to talk to the captain and B'Elanna about." I said. He
kissed me one last time and turned and was about to walk out when the
captain said "Oh, Ensign if you don't mind could you head to engineering to
help commander Chakotay with the anti-proton generator he's working on to
track down the transporter module." He turned and nodded and then said "Aye
ma'am." He walked out the doors and said "Listen I need to talk to you
about Tom, I get the feeling that telling him about Seska was a bad idea,
if I know him which I think I do he won't hesitate to take a shuttle craft
and go after her." The captain looked at me and said "I'm sure it won't
come to that." I looked up at her and said "I'm sure your right." The
doctor walked into the surgical bay and said "Okay captain, Lieutenant my
patient needs to rest; I'm going to have to ask you to leave." I
smiled. "I'll check on you later as soon as the doctor permits." Said
B'Elanna. At that she turned and walked out as the doctor dimmed the lights
and I fell asleep. A few hours later I woke up and found kes, checking me
with a tricorder. "Hey Jack, how are you feeling?" she asked. I smiled and
said "Much better, hungry." I said. "Well the doctor said you can be
released as soon as I have finished these scans." She replied. She finished
her scans and said "Okay Lieutenant your free to go." I climbed off the bed
and was still feeling sore along my side, so much so that I put my hand on
my side. The doctor came out of his office and said "The slight pain will
subside in the next few days, in the mean time try not to put too much
pressure on your side and stay out of Jeffries Tubes and conduits for at
least the next three days." I smiled and nodded and replied "Very well
doctor."

 I exited sickbay and headed for my quarters. I walked in and immediately
headed for the bathroom. I stripped off and looked at my side, I could just
see the knife wound and as I touched it, the pain was sharp. "Computer,
activate the sonic shower" I said. I walked in and the sonic pulses started
to remove the grime and sweat off my body. After the shower had finished I
went back into the bedroom and put on a fresh uniform. "Coffee Black" I
ordered from the replicator. I then said "Pancakes with maple syrup." As
soon as they appeared I took them over to my table and quickly devoured
them. I was so hungry but after I wasn't. "Carter to Walker" I said. No
answer. I waited and then said "Tom this is Jack come in." Still no
answer. "Computer locate Tom Walker." I spoke aloud. "Ensign Walker is not
aboard." Replied the computer. "Carter to commander Chakotay" I said. No
answer. "Computer locate Chakotay" I said. "Commander Chakotay is not on
board." Replied the computer. "Did they leave together?" I
asked. "Affirmative." Replied the computer. "Carter to Captain Janeway." I
said. "Go Ahead Lieutenant" she replied. "Captain, we've got a problem" I
said. "I'm not going to like this am I?" She said. "No sir, could you
possibly meet me in Engineering?" I asked. "I'm on my way" she said.

I immediately headed out my quarters and to the turbolift. "Carter to
Torres" I said. "Go ahead Jack." She replied. "Report to Engineering." I
said. "I'm on my way." I walked into a turbolift and called out
"Engineering." The turbolift sprang into the motion. A few seconds the lift
came to a stop and I marched in to engineering and to the console where I
knew Tom and Chakotay were working on the generator. It was gone and so
were they. I knew immediately what happened they were off a personal
mission to get back at Seska. Chakotay was doing that because she
humiliated him and Tom was doing this because of the fact that I was
stabbed. I don't like this I thought to myself. The captain walked up
closely followed by B'Elanna and she looked at me with her arms
folded. "What it is Jack?" she asked. "Exactly what I said would happen,
Tom's gone with the Generator and he wasn't alone... Chakotay went with
him." I replied. The captain looked at me in shock. She immediately headed
out of engineering and I closely followed her. We entered the turbolift and
she looked at me "How could Tom do this?" she asked. I looked at her "I
think he wanted revenge for the fact that I could have died at the hands of
the Kazon" I replied. "That may be so... but it doesn't give him the right
to ignore protocols and run off some personal vengeance mission and
Chakotay is the same... believe me those two will be in for a good dressing
down when and if we get them back." She said. "Halt turbolift" I called
out. "Captain, I know Tom and Chakotay well. Before you make any rash
decisions for punishment please know, Tom was just doing what a devoted
boyfriend would do in this situation and as for Chakotay, he felt
exposed. What Seska did to him was unimaginable especially for someone as
private as Chakotay. Can you imagine how he must of felt? She publically
humiliated him in front of the entire bridge crew and she used her intimate
knowledge of Chakotay to do it. Please understand he would never publically
defy your authority without good reason" I said. "Wow, you give a hell of a
pep talk. I'll tell you what let's just get them back and we'll worry about
the board of inquiry afterwards." I smiled and said "Thank you."  "Well
shall we get moving Jack or we'll never find them" she said. I smiled and
said "Computer resume." We walked onto the bridge and I immediately sat at
the engineering station. "Mr Kim, can you locate the ion trail of Chakotays
Shuttle?" she asked. "Yes ma'am, I've got it here, heading 353 mark 025
distance 1.5 light-years" he explained. "Mr Paris, lay in a course" she
ordered. We soon went to warp 3 and were due to get to Chakotay and Tom
within an hour. However that hour did not pass quickly. I just sat at the
station thinking of what I would say to Tom when I saw him. Would I throw
myself on him and say a huge thank you or scream and shout at him. Probably
both.

When we were approaching the co-ordinates of the ion trail Harry announced
"I'm picking up several kazon ships. They've detected us and are powering
weapons." The captain immediately stood up "Red Alert, All Hands to
Battlestations." We dropped out of warp and as soon as we did we started to
take fire. I concentrated on finding a way of transporting Tom and Chakotay
out of there, but there was a localised dampening field that seem to be
just around them. "Jack, any look in cutting through their dampening
field?" asked the captain. "No sir, but I'm working on it." I said. We
continued to take fire and out of the blue there was a huge explosion on
the bridge right by the helm and Tom Paris was knocked out of his chair and
he had severe burns on his face. "Jack, transport him to sickbay and then
take the helm" ordered the captain. I transported Tom to sickbay and then
ran down and took the helm. "Evasive pattern gamma 5" ordered the
captain. I did so and we took more hits. B'Elanna had come up and taken
over the engineering station. "B'Elanna how localised is that dampening
field?" the captain asked as I continued to fly the ship and avoid enemy
fire. "It's just over Tom and Chakotay" said B'Elanna, so that meant it was
skin tight. "Jack get down to transporter room one and take security. We're
going to transport the leaders from Cullah's ship over here, in the hope we
can get them back. See to it" she told. I stood up and headed for the
turbolift and tapped my commbadge "Carter to Munro" I said. "Go Ahead" he
said. "Meet me in transporter room one and bring security and a phaser for
me" I said. "On my way" he said. I quickly got to the transporter room and
Alex was waiting for me. He handed me a phaser and I attached it to my belt
and then said to Luke "Energise." He did so and the kazon leaders
appeared. Cullah went for his weapon and said "Our Weapons?" I smiled and
looked at him. "They will be returned to you. Here are the terms gentlemen,
the safe return of our first officer and engineer and our shuttlecraft, in
exchange for your safe return to your vessels." I explained. They all
looked down at the floor and looked at each other "We accept" said Cullah.

The next few hours went by quickly. Tom and Chakotay were returned to us,
as was the shuttle and we returned the kazon and we left rapidly. Tom and
Chakotay were in bad shape; they'd been beaten very badly and as a result
were in sickbay. The captain called me to her ready room not long before I
was due to go off shift. I entered her ready room and she said "Ahh Jack
have a seat, Commander Chakotay and Ensign Walker are on their way here" I
sat down and she poured me some coffee. Up to this point I hadn't seen Tom
or spoken to him. The door chimed and in walked Chakotay and Tom. Tom
looked at me as did Chakotay as both myself and the captain
rose. "Commander please wait outside, I will deal with you personally" she
said to Chakotay. He stepped out and I looked at Tom and shook my head. "As
Ensign Walkers, senior officer you have the direct course of action for
discipline and as long as I agree with you, that will stand." I nodded and
faced Tom directly. He looked worried. "Ensign Walker, do you have anything
to say for yourself" I barked. "Yes, I did this out of personal vengeance,
which I am aware was a mistake on my behalf and completely out of line and
I am ready to take whatever disciplinary action you feel is necessary" he
told me. "You're damn right it was out of line, not only did you disobey
Starfleet protocol, but you publically defied not only my authority, but
also the captain's. How does this make us look? Every person in engineering
will now think they can get away with anything when I'm on duty. Let me
assure that is not the case. I am very disappointed in you Tom, both on a
personal level and a professional one. I'm putting you on report and you're
going to spend the next two weeks scrubbing the plasma conduits. Do I make
myself clear?" I said. "Yes Sir" he said. I looked at the captain. "I agree
with your choice Jack. Ensign Walker, you're dismissed." She said. He
turned and walked out. "Thank you Jack, you can go as well" she said. I
turned and walked out and looked at Chakotay and said "The captain will see
you now." I walked away and into the turbolift just as Tom was walking
in. He walked in, and I followed. "Deck 7" he called out. "Deck 6" I
said. We stood in silence as the turbolift went in to motion. "Jack..." he
said I held up my hand and said "Save it Tom, I'm going to my quarters to
have a shower and then we can talk over dinner in the mess hall." He smiled
and I said "Don't smile, this doesn't let you off the hook, this dinner is
not a date okay?" He turned to me "Yeah sure, what time shall I meet you?"
he asked. "19:00" I said. The turbolift stopped and I walked straight out
without looking at him. I walked into my quarters and took a look around
and saw the picture sitting on my desk of Tom and I after our first trip to
the holodeck when we went to Casperia Prime. I picked it up and took a
look. He looked so hot in his board shorts. It was just after he had been
surfing. I smiled and thought he can be forgiven. I stripped off and headed
for the shower.

After having a nice relaxing shower and coming out and changing in to a
fresh uniform. I walked over to the replicator and ordered a coffee before
sitting at my desk. I called up the disciplinary report that I would need
to fill out daily for Jack for the next two weeks. This was not going to be
fun. That was when my door chimed. I checked the time it was 18:30 so it
wouldn't be Tom, or at least I hope not. "Come in" I said. The door opened
and in walked Chakotay and B'Elanna. I looked up and stood and said "Sirs."
"At ease Jack, this is a social call" said Chakotay. "Of course, have a
seat" I said. They sat on the sofa and looked at me. "Jack, firstly I want
you to know that I'm sorry for dragging tom into this, if I had been
thinking straight I would have left him on voyager but I needed his
expertise. You have every right to be angry with me, but don't be too hard
on tom; he knows how much he has let you down and feels really bad about
it. Secondly I want you to know that B'Elanna told me what you said to the
captain and for convincing her to lay off with the court martial and I want
you to know how risky that was especially with Kathryn, but I'm also very
grateful." He said. I smiled. "It was nothing." I said. "And I'm not angry
with you at all, Tom does need to take some blame, he could have refused to
go with you, but don't worry he will be off the hook with me personally
anyway by the end of dinner." I said. He smiled and looked at me "Well
that's good. Now I know B'Elanna wants to talk to you and I'm famished so
I'll leave you two to it" he said. He stood and walked out. B'Elanna came
over and perched on the edge of my desk. "What did you decide to do with
Tom as a disciplinary action?" she asked. "I put him on report and he's
spending the next two weeks cleaning the plasma conduits" I said. She
smiled and said "Well that's harsh but maybe he will learn his lesson." I
smiled and leaned back in my chair "It wasn't easy to separate my love for
him with my duty as his senior officer" I told her. "I wouldn't worry you
did the right thing. Now rumour has it, you two have a dinner date at
19:00, so let's get you to the mess hall" she said. I laughed and stood up
and walked out of my quarters and down the corridor with her before
stepping into a turbolift. I rode up to deck two and went into the mess
hall to see tom stood waiting for me talking to Neelix. I walked up and
said "Hey, you got your food?" He looked at me and said "No I was waiting
for you." I turned to Neelix and said "What's for dinner Neelix?" "Well we

night." She called. We exited the mess hall and he said "We should change,

We entered a turbolift and called out "Deck 6 and 7" the computer chirped
