Ok as well before we start this is based on the series Star Trek Voyager
but with a twist from the original story line and I hope you like it.

Chapter 4: On the hunt

Starfleet security and tactical was the best department to run in all of
starfleet in my opinion. In the recent departmental review and overall
starfleet review starfleet security was rated the best department
overall. In recent months the overall security rating was 98.4% meaning
their hadn't been much of any incidents either on earth, colonies or ships

office to discuss that." She said gesturing for me to follow her. I
followed her out of the command centre and into her side office. "Well?" I
asked as the doors closed.  "They were collecting an intelligence agent."
She told me. "Why didn't I know about this?" I asked. "I decided best to
keep this between me and the operative." She said. "Why?" I asked.
"Because I wanted to see what the xindi were about,as you said no one has
had contact with them and after all the threats we have had and the data Q
junior gave us I wanted to assess old enemies that we haven't had contact
with for a while and these guys qualified." She told me. "I understand
that, so who was the agent?" I asked. "Tuvok! " she said sternly. "You need
to go get him Jack and go armed Tuvok reported that they were very
dangerous and well armed they have no doubt attacked the prometheus." She
told me.  "I'll take Voyager, starfleet engineering just advised me that
the tactical upgrades are complete." I told her.  "Good then project
protection can get underway."  She said. "The armour and new torpedos could
be useful now more than ever."  I told her. "Do it, and one more suggestion
if I may." She said as I nodded.  "Of course." I said.  "Take the original
senior staff with you. Your senior staff." She said.  I smiled.  "Yes
ma'am" I replied as I left her office.

After heading back to my office and speaking with B'Elanna and Tom Paris
they were happy to accompany me on the mission as was Tom and Harry was
happy to let me take over. My folks were having the kids so that was
sorted. After packing a bag Tom and I transported to voyager and assumed a
set of quarters. Tom and B'Elanna also beamed aboard and after settling in
the 4 of us rode the turbo lift to the bridge. "Admiral on the bridge."
Harry said. I stepped off and went to the centre of the bridge. "Attention
all personnel I hereby assume command of this vessel until further notice.
Further more the senior staff is being replaced with the previous senior

admiral jack carter, authorisation carter alpha 47 omega 35." I said.
"Command code transfer complete U.S.S voyager now under the command of
admiral jack carter." The computer confirmed. "Senior staff please release
your positions. Harry take ops, B'Elanna tactical, Paris the helm, Kyle
engineering station. Commander West the science station. Lieutenant donahue
head to the engine room. The rest head to your departments or to
engineering to help out." I said. The bridge cleared as I sat in the centre
chair "Paris set a course for sector 547. Warp 9. Engage." I said as the
ship went to warp. I looked at Tom who smiled.

After an hour at warp I could see we were getting close.  "Closing on the
target sir." Paris said practically mirroring my thoughts. "Take us out of
warp and drop to three quarters impulse." I said.  The ship slowed as I
looked out of the view screen. "Harry." I said. "First scan complete I'm
detecting the prometheus along with a fleet of ships the energy signatures
matches xindi records." He told me. "Where are they?" I asked. "Heading 312
mark 64." He told me. "Paris." I said as he took us to warp. The journey
was short but sweet. "Approaching the position." Paris said. "Drop out of
warp." I ordered.  "Slowing to impulse." Paris told me. "Mr Kim anything?"
Tom asked. "Yes sir, the prometheus is on the northern hemisphere and the
xindi have the planet surrounded." He told me. "Have they detected us?" I
asked.  "Yes sir, several ships are on an intercept course." B'Elanna told
me. "Open a channel." I said.  "Open." Harry said.  I looked to Tom before
I spoke "this is admiral jack carter of the federation starship voyager we
have no hostile intent we simply wish to aid our stranded ship. Stand down
and allow us to proceed and I assure you we will leave your space." I
said. After a moment I looked at Harry. "Anything?" I asked.  He shook his
head.  "Jack they are powering weapons." B'Elanna told me.
"Battlestations" I ordered. The bridge went crimson red as I sat down in my
chair.  "Bridge to kyle deploy armour." I said.  I watched as the deployers
activated and covered the ship from bow to stern in seconds. "Charge
weapons. Raise shields." I ordered.  "Move to intercept Mr Paris." Tom
ordered. "We have 9 ships coming up to starboard and 5 more to port." Harry
said. The ship shook slightly as they opened fire. "Armour at 98%" B'Elanna
told me. I smiled. "Phasers return fire." I said as she fired back at them.
I watched as 3 ships were destroyed. "How many does that leave?" I
asked. "17 sir." Harry told me. "Attack pattern delta 6 4. Arm transphasic
torpedos and starting picking off the bigger targets." I ordered as they
continued to fire at us. I looked at kyle "armour down to 87%" He told
me. B'Elanna fired multiple torpedos hitting ships and watching them burst
into flames and be destroyed. "That's only 4 for us to handle." Tom said.
"Do it B'Elanna" I said. She released a series of quantum torpedos as the 4
remaining insectoid ships were destroyed. "Clear jack" she told me. " Good
maintain red alert. Continuous scans." I said "Paris put us in to
synchronised orbit above the prometheus." I ordered. "Kyle, Harry, B'Elanna
your with me. Commander West you too. Doctor meet me in transporter room 1"
I said standing up. "Your going down there?" Tom asked. "Yes. I'll keep an
open comm link. You have the bridge." I said to him as I left the bridge
with my team.

After a pit stop at the armory we headed for the transporter room. "Ready."
B'Elanna said. "Energise." I said as I went up to the platform. We
dematerialised and reappeared on the bridge of the prometheus.  "Admiral."
Captain Wilson said standing from her chair. "Report captain." I said. "Not
good sir, the main power grid has been destroyed, we have no impulse
engines to speak of. The warp core was ejected and destroyed and the lower
9 decks have been totally destroyed on impact I lost a lot of good people
down there. And this is just for starters." She told me. I looked around

survey the ship. Get the crew together ready to evacuate." I said. "Aye
sir." They said as they all took off. "Evacuate. I won't abandon my ship."
She said to me. "I'm afraid you don't have a choice here captain." I
replied.  "Admiral with all due respect I would prefer it if..." She
started before I cut her off.  "Louise let me give this to you in a
nutshell. Right now we are in xindi space and on this ship you have an
intelligence agent that holds vital information for starfleet.  On top of
that your ship is heavily damaged and beyond repair.  Currently I have a
starship in orbit trying to protect us and If the xindi attack us again we
may not be able to hold this position. I understand that captain goes down
with the ship but not this time do you hear me.  Now that's an order
prepare to evacuate." I said. "Yes sir." She replied as she walked away.
"Carter to doctor report." I said. "39 wounded 7 of them critical. Half the
medical systems are damaged or of no good. Request permission to start
transport to voyager and get the wounded up there." He said.
"Granted. Carter out." I said.  "Carter to voyager. " I said.  "Go ahead
Jack." Tom replied.  "The doctor is beaming up with wounded have sickbay on
standby. Mr Paris get down there and assist him. We will be evacuating the
prometheus soon. Target this position with a full spread of transphasic
torpedos and arm the tricobolt devices.  We will fire them once the ship is
clear." I said.  "You plan to destroy the prometheus? " Tom asked.  "Yes I
do. Now prepare to receive the survivors and assign them to quarters,
double up if you have to." I said."Yes sir." He replied. "Carter out." I
said.  I looked around the bridge to see repair crews trying to work on
systems. I walked to the captains chair and touched a control "Attention
all personel prepare to evacuate the ship. Please abandon your posts and
prep for transport to voyager." I said over the comm. Everyone that was on
the bridge took off and got themselves ready. Being the last person on the
bridge I took one last look around. Out the corner of my eye I could see a
shiny object under some debris. Going over I brushed away the debris and
picked it up. It was the dedication plaque for the ship. I looked it over
