Ok as well before we start this is based on the series Star Trek Voyager
but with a twist from the original story line and i hope you like it.

Chapter 6: Beyond Repair

"We only have one phaser array left that's working and 1 aft torpedo
launcher." B'Elanna announced. "Re-charge the phaser array and load the
last of the photon torpedoes." I ordered. The bridge was scorched, half the
ship had been evacuated. "Shields at 14%" Harry informed me. "Understood,
Mr Paris bring us to position 276 mark 45." I ordered. The ship shook again
and the tactical console exploded right in B'Elanna's face and sent her
flying backwards. Tom immediately leaped out his chair and jumped over the
railings. "She's hurt bad." Tom said. "Are the transporters online?" I
asked. "No sir they are fried." Kyle said. "Kyle, Ashmore get B'Elanna to
sickbay. Tom take over tactical." I said. My uniform was a mess. The ship
was a wreck. The xindi had ambushed Voyager on my return from the Security
facility on the Trill Homeworld. We had managed to take out all but 2 of
their ships one insectoid and one aquatic. "Target the insectoid ship." I
ordered. The ship shook again and this time it was a big one. "Shields are
gone Jack. We can't take much more of this." Tom told me. "Target the
insectoid ship." I repeated. "Locked." He replied. "Torpedoes, fire." I
ordered. Tom fired 4 torpedoes and hit the insectoid ship head on causing
it to explode. "Paris bring us to within close range of the aquatic ship."
I said. They fired at us again and this one again caused more damage and
Harrys console exploded catching him in the face and causing him to loose
his footing as he was thrown over the railing. "Tom see to Harry." I said
as I ran around the bridge and took over tactical. "Warning Hull Breach on
Deck 1." The computer announced. Tom looked over at me. "Jack!" he
shouted. "Everyone out of her now. Paris transfer helm control to tactical
and get everyone out of here." I ordered. "What about you?" he said. "I'm
staying to finish this once and for all." I said. "Jack No!" Paris
said. "That wasn't a subject for debate. Move it NOW!!!" I shouted as
people cleared the bridge. I managed to fly the ship to within 400 meters
of the aquatic ship and slip through a gap in their shield. "Warning
structural collapse on deck one will occur in 60 seconds." The computer
announced. "Establish a level 10 containment around deck one." I instructed
as I heard the field form. I checked to see that the phasers were charged
and Tom had left me 5 torpedoes in the aft tubes. Just as I saw the
aquatics had detected me and were preparing to fire I targeted their life
support systems and their weapons and warp core with everything I had
left. "All hands clear the outer sections and prepare for wide scale
breaches." I shouted over the comm. At that moment I fired and watched as
the life support systems went offline and their weapons went dead. I saw a
massive build up of energy in their warp reactor and immediately engaged
the maximum impulse I had and managed to slip out of the hole in their
shield grid before transferring helm control to engineering and running off
the bridge and into the turbolift where I called out "Engineering."



It took seconds but I landed in engineering just as the aquatic ship was
destroyed and caused a massive shockwave which struck the ship as consoles
exploded and people were thrown from their feet. Once the ship settled I
stood up and looked around. "Report." I asked as Tom walked over to
me. "Sensors report that you destroyed the aquatic ship but in the process
have now crippled us. We have no bridge left that is now a vacuum in space,
half the ship has been destroyed and on top of that we have no warp engines
and no weapons plus no shields. The structural integrity field may as well
no exist and is down to 8%, we are royally screwed Jack. Well and truly. We
will be lucky if we make it back to earth!!" he said in a harsh tone with
me. "Outside now!!!" I bellowed. He walked straight passed me and out into
the corridor. "Kyle, get me a full damage report. Take a look at what decks
are clear and see if we can take power from life support on those decks to
shore up structural reinforcement. I also want a team to inspect the warp
coils visually and run a diagnostic on the warp drive to see if we can go
to warp and want that in the next hour. Mr Paris cut all engines and hold
position here until we try and work out where we are. "Doctor casualty
report." I asked. "56 members of the crew are unaccounted for, 34 dead, 19
wounded 4 critically. B'Elanna and Harry are stable and resting now." He
explained. "Understood, so out of 153 people on board we are down to 44
people who can actually work. Doctor I need all available personnel at
their posts." I ordered. "Yes sir." He replied. I marched out of
engineering and into the corridor to find a few crewman working. "Can you
all excuse us please." I said aloud. No one really moved. "Out of here
NOW!!!" I bellowed as people scarpered back into engineering. Once the
doors were closed and I made sure we were alone I looked around and then
straight at Tom. "DON'T YOU EVER QUESTION ME OR SHOW ME UP IN FRONT OF THIS
CREW AGAIN!! DO YOU HEAR ME CAPTAIN!" I bellowed. "Jack you were way out of
line and someone had to put you in your place. That someone is your first
officer and unfortunately that is me. You have crippled this ship and lost
almost half the crew to the xindi." He said. "Tom I did what I thought was
right. Save the ship and crew no matter what the cost basic rule number one
of command. Rather that than loose everyone on board and have the ship
destroyed." I replied. "You could have found a better way, and on top it
all you risked yourself to do it and our unborn kids. You have no idea what
I would have been like if you had died up there. Think of Matthew and Emma
and how devastated they would have been." He told me. "Right now I am a
Starfleet admiral with a ship and crew under his command, being a father
and husband has to be second unfortunately." I said. "I understand that I
really do, but this could have had serious consequences." He replied. "I
understand Tom, lets just not fight anymore we have bigger things to sort
out." I replied. "Deal." He said kissing me. I kissed him back and then we
went back into engineering. "Status report." I asked. "Here's the damage
report you wanted." Kyle said handing me a pad. I moved to one side and
read it through and as expected things did not look good. "Now the good
news. I can cut power to decks 14 and 15 life support environmental
controls the works and bring the warp core and containment field back on
line. The best speed we will be able to manage is warp 4.5" he
explained. "The structural integrity field?" Tom asked. "With power from
Deck one, the weapons and shields I have been able to establish and bodge
together a force field grid and then establish an active structural
integrity which now stands at 67%." Kyle explained. "Fine, Mr Paris take us
home best possible speed." I said. "Wait, before you do that I need to
explain just as get to earth, we are going to have to eject the core and
try to limp as far away as possible." Kyle said. "Explain?" I
enquired. "The reactants injector controls are that damaged as is the
dilithium matrix that the moment we drop out of warp a 2 minute core breach
will commence." Kyle explained. "Okay, ill take the chance. We need to get
home." I said. "Mr Paris proceed." I advised. "Okay what's our ETA?" I
asked. Kyle worked a control station before he said "25 minutes." "Okay
everyone I want this ship ready to be evacuated within 25 Minutes make your
preparations." I announced. "Kyle the transporter array whats the damage?"
I asked. "5 bio neural gel packs ruptured in junction 47 beda. It shut down
the transporter array." He told me. "Fine, then you I will go to junction
47 beda and replace them. Tom you're in charge. Let's go Kyle." I said
heading for the door.

After a quick change of gel packs and heading back to engineering we had
arrived at earth. "Approaching earth Admiral." Paris announced. "Advise
starfleet of our situation." Tom said. "Message sent." Harry said now back
at his post. "Okay everyone get ready. Paris take us out of warp." I
advised. "Slowing to impulse." He replied. The moment we fell out of warp
the computer alarm sound and the warp core steam vents started. "Warning
warp core breach is 2 minutes." The computer announced. "Computer prepare
to eject the warp core authorisation Carter omega 593." I called out. "Warp
ejection system is offline." The computer replied. I looked to
Kyle. "Kyle." I bellowed. "Its frozen, the manual system is still online
though. We need to do it manually." He said. "Kyle decouple the dilithium
matrix and separate the power feeds. Tom over there and shut the safety
interlocks and decouple the reactants injector controls and deuterium
manifold." I ordered as I went under the railings and sat down the side of
the warp core. "Are you going to do the ejection?" Kyle asked. "Yes, just
make sure there is a force field around me to stop me from you know
dieing." I replied. He smiled. I gently lowered myself down and landed onto
the platform below the core. "Ready." Kyle shouted. "Ready here." Tom
shouted also. I ripped the panel from the wall, and after a quick check
that the force field was actually there, I pulled the lever down wards and
watched as the cover that was below me that allowed the warp core to leave
was opened, I then touched a few controls and brought the actuators online
that brought the actually core ejection system online. "45 seconds Jack."
Kyle shouted. I then pulled the lever up and the core slid down passed me
and out of the ship. "Paris go!" tom shouted as I climbed back up out of
the pit and back up to the normal level. I stood up as Tom shouted, "10
seconds." I looked up from my control panel "All hands brace for impact." I
shouted. I saw as the explosion went off the shockwave instantly hit the
ship and again we were all thrown from our feet. The lights went out and I
could feel the ship starting to float. I stood up somehow and worked a
control panel as the lights came on. "Emergency lighting is restored." I
said. "Let's evacuate." Tom said standing by me. "Janeway to Carter." Came
Kathryn's voice over my comm badge. "Carter here, go ahead Kathryn." I
replied. "We are ready to receive you Jack, the U.S.S Easton is going to
tow voyager to drydock, unless you have enough power to land." She
said. "Standby Kathryn." I said. "Kyle?" I asked. "It could be done but I
wouldn't recommend it." He told me. "whats the risk factor?" I asked. "40%
chance that we won't make it." He replied. "Fine everyone prepare to
evacuate, Tom go with them and get everyone sorted. Paris, Kyle I need you
stay on board." I replied. "Aye sir." They all said. "Kathryn we are going
to land, clear all airspace and I need an emergency runway." I
said. "Understood ill be in touch." She replied. "Go!" I said to Tom and he
left without argument.

Once the ship was clear I transferred all remaining power to the landing
systems and structural integrity. "Okay power wise we are ready." I said
moving away from the console. "Jack, we have cleared all airspace and
landing runway alpha 257 is ready for you. Bring that ship home." Kathryn
said. "Understood Kathryn see you soon." I said. "I look forward to it
Jack. Coffee on me." She said. I smiled. "Sounds good. Carter out." I
said. "Mr Paris are you ready?" I asked. "Yes Jack ready as ill ever be."
He said. "Kyle?" I asked. "All set to land Jack." He replied. "Then Tom put
her down." I said. "With pleasure." He replied. The decent started and once
we were half way down I signalled to air traffic control. "U.S.S Voyager
requesting emergency permission to land." I asked. "Granted Admiral. Your
clear to land." The operator announced. "Paris do it." I said. It took a
matter of moments before we set down. "We are down sir." He said. "Kyle
transport us to command." I said. We dematerialised off the ship and
reappeared in the command centre. "Thank you both your dismissed." I said
as they turned and walked away. I saw Kathryn and went over to her. "Go
home, shower and change. I have downloaded your logs and read them so no
need for a report, im satisfied you did the right thing. Meet me back here
in 1 hour and I will have preliminary engineering report for you." She said
to me. I smiled and walked away.

Heading home I saw Tom was with the kids and had showered and changed, I
spent some time with them before showering and changing and head back to
the command centre. Stepping into Kathryn's office she had a coffee already
poured for me. "Nicely handled Jack is all im going to say, despite what
anybody may think you handled yourself well." She said. "Thanks, so whats
the damage and how long will it take to repair." I asked. "That's the bad
news. I have some bad news for you Jack." She said. She told me the news
and then after a short conversation I left. I headed home and sent a small
message to the senior staff and within no time they all arrived at the
house. Tom got everyone drinks and just as I was handing them out Kathryn
showed up. "Kathryn come in we were just doing coffee." I said handing her
a cup. "Thanks. I just wanted to come see you all. It's been a while since
we were all together last and wanted to congratulate you all on what
happened you all handled yourselves very well." She said. "Thanks." They
all said. "So, now I am sadly the bearer of some bad news." I said before
tom interrupted me. "Jack wait, the news is on and it looks like they are
on about Voyager." He said as he turned the volume up on the TV. "Last
piece of news for the evening, the U.S.S Voyager returned home today not
looking in a good condition. The ship is heavily damaged and was forced to
make a landing for starfleet engineers to inspect the damage. Admiral
Carter and crew were returning from a routine mission to trill when they
were ambushed by a fleet of xindi warships. Despite trying to evade them
Admiral carter and crew were forced to engage the ships. Afterwards
starfleet engineers have inspected the ship and despite their best efforts
they have declared the ship to be damaged beyond repair and as such the
ship will now be decommissioned. This is a sad day for the ship that
survived 7 years in the delta quadrant. Starfleet has made no further
comments on the subject. I'm Pat Collins good evening." The reporter said
as I turned the TV off as the room went quiet. "I can't believe it."
B'Elanna said. "That's what I was about to tell you. Sadly Commander
Suffolk and his team have inspected the ship as it has been deemed no
repairable and it will be destroyed." I said. "Tough break." Paris
said. "That's easy for you to say that was technically my ship to command."
Harry said. "It's okay Harry Jack will find you another ship." Paris
said. "There will be an official decommissioning ceremony for us as the
senior staff before the ship is laid to rest." Kathryn said. "So where am I
heading for next?" Harry asked. "We have got you a new ship already, just
built." I said. "What class?" he asked. "Intrepid." Kathryn replied. "Same
class, what's she called?" Harry asked. I looked to Kathryn and smiled. "By
order of the chief of starfleet the newest ship of intrepid class is to be
commissioned and given command to Captain Harry Kim and crew. Designation
of this vessel will be U.S.S Voyager NCC - 74656 - A." I said reading from
a pad. "Seriously." Harry asked smiling. "That's right Harry I only thought
it was fair." Kathryn said. "So I get Voyager back." He asked. "Yeah you
do, only this time it will be the federation flagship and my own personal
flagship." I told him. "That's fine by me." He said giddy. "Then your all
set to go up there in the morning and see the progress." I said. "Thank you
Admirals. This is amazing." He said. "Anytime Harry. So let's raise a toast
to Voyager." I said lifting my cup. "To Voyager." They all said as we drank
from our cups. "May she rise from the ashes." Tom said. I smiled as the
conversation restarted.
