Ok as well before we start this is based on the series Star Trek Voyager
but with a twist from the original story line and i hope you like it.
Chapter 10: Civil War Part 1

The conference on Andoria had gone smoothly I thought to myself as I sat on
the bridge. The ship was returning to earth to drop off the president and
Admiral Janeway, along with my parents and the chief of Starfleet
intelligence. The head of Starfleet had left yesterday after he was called
to return to Earth. The journey home was going as expected and a lot of the
crew were completing maintenance work as we had the spare time. Secretly I
think everyone was just trying to impress the president.  "Admiral on the
bridge." B'Elanna announced. I turned my head to see my mother, father and
Admiral Janeway along with Admiral Ive. "Jack, we need to talk in private
now!" My mother announced. I stood up and headed for my ready room as
everyone was already walking. "Computer seal the doors to this room no
entry without my authorisation" Kathryn announced. I heard the doors lock
as I went and stood by the window and looked out. "Anyone care to explain
what's going on?" I asked. "25 hours ago we received a priority 1 message
and we have just had it confirmed. Starfleet is facing a civil war." My
mother told me. I stood there in total shock. "You are joking right." I
asked. "On this occasion Jack she's not." My father replied. I stood there
and thought for a moment. "There has never been anything like this in the
history of Starfleet." I eventually said.  "What happened." I
added. Everyone looked at me before looking at Kathryn. "During the meeting
on Andoria I made a few points about the technology that we brought back
from the delta quadrant with us including the armour and the transphasic
torpedoes and developing these technologies for use on starships now. The
tactical advantage to Starfleet would be incredible. The head of Starfleet
command Admiral Hayes objected to any of this but after a vote it was
decided that a research project should be put in place and the president
herself has backed this project. Hayes left early saying that he had other
commitments but we knew he was pissed off about being over ruled. It's not
the first time either. Over the last few months Hayes has continually been
getting more and more annoyed at how he was being over ruled and he has
voiced his opinions with regards to the president and how she runs the
federation on more than one occasion and what he has been saying isn't what
people want to hear. Now when he got back to earth he sent a message. It
said that he was going to fight to over throw the president and he has a
lot of backing. 15 minutes ago your mother confirmed that this is true. A
number of starships have sworn their allegiance to Hayes and his cause to
become the new president and run Starfleet and the federation the way he
sees fit. We are hoping that the president has allies and now we are
officially in a civil war. Hayes has rounded up his ships and left earth
for a secret base he's been establishing the where abouts we are unsure
of. We need your support Jack. Better yet the president needs it" Kathryn
told me. I turned to her and said "You can count on me and this crew." She
smiled. "That's exactly what I wanted to hear. Now given that, we need to
get back to earth and set up a command system of our own. From here on the
president has now officially declared Voyager as the flagship of the
federation." She told me. I smiled. "But what about the enterprise?" I
asked. "The enterprise is the second flagship. Captain Picard has already
been told."  My mother told me.

The journey back to earth was tense. After briefing the senior staff and
making an announcement to the crew we finally were getting close to being
back at earth and setting ourselves up a command post. But I have this
feeling in me that said that we would be getting into some trouble before
we did and it wasn't long before I was proven right.  "Captain I'm picking
up a vessel on an intercept course, distance 250,000 kilometres and
closing." Harry announced. "Can you identify them?" I asked. "Yes sir, it's
the USS Okinawa" he told me.  "That used to be Admiral Layton's ship." I
said. "Admiral Janeway and all other Admirals to the bridge." Tom said. I
looked at him and nodded as the doors to the turbolift opened. "Captain."
My mother said as she stepped off the turbolift and walked down to
me. "Admiral we have detected the Okinawa on approach." I told her. She
looked at me and then Kathryn and then turned back to me. "Friend or foe
mum?" I asked. "Foe, the Okinawa should be in dry-dock being
decommissioned."  She told me as I looked at the view screen. "Let's not be
too hasty they might be friendly if people at Earth have sent us an
escort." My father said. "Hail them." I ordered. I heard harry work the
controls and there was no answer. "No response." He told me. "Captain they
are powering weapons." B'Elanna told me. I walked towards the centre of the
bridge and looked at them on the view screen. "I guess this means they want
a fight." I said.

"Red alert, all hands to battle stations." I said as the bridge went
crimson red. "Raise shields, arm weapons." I then said as I sat back down
in my chair and brought the centre console up. "Jack if you fire on that
ship you will be officially declaring this war." My mother said as she,
Kathryn, my father and Admiral Ive stood around the console above the
captain's chair. "That's why I'm going to let to them fire first." I
said. "Harry open a channel." I added. "Channel open." He replied. "This is
Captain Jack Carter of the starship voyager, identify yourself." I
ordered. There was no answer. That was when the ship shook. "And so it
begins." I said. "Paris come about, bearing 92 mark 270." I said. "B'Elanna
target their weapons systems and fire." I added.  "Firing" she said. I saw
on the view screen as she fired phasers and torpedoes impacting the Okinawa
"Direct hit to their weapons array, minimal damage." Harry announced. "What
that should of taken out at least their phasers." B'Elanna announced. They
returned fire as conduits sparked. "Not the time, Paris come about bearing
251 mark 090, B'Elanna return fire." She fired again and as before they
took only minimal damage.  "What's going on, they aren't taking any
damage." Tom asked. They continued to fire at us and we took more damage. I
moved over to a console and started to view their status. "They have tied
their shield grid and their warp core together. Their shields are being
power fed by their warp core."  I announced. "Target their impulse
engines." I said "Target acquired."  B'Elanna said. "Wait, Harry call up
the Okinawa shield frequency's and B'Elanna adjust phasers to that
frequency." My mother said. "That won't work mum, they will have thought of
that." I told her. "Well we need to do something we are being battered
here." Tom said as we took another 4 direct hits. Conduits sparked and
consoles ruptured. "Shields at 46%" B'Elanna announced. Another two hits
and I was starting to get worried. "Well Admirals, I could really use some
suggestions." I said to Kathryn, my mother and father. "You're the captain
you must know what to do." My father said. "Well I have to admit this is my
first time fighting a federation starship, so I'm out of my league." I
said. "I'm not! Tom come about get us to position 194 mark 23." Kathryn
said standing in the middle of the bridge. We took another 2 hits and more
conduits sparked and consoles ruptured. "Shields at 18%." B'Elanna
shouted. "Kathryn at the risk of sounding like a worrier, DO SOMETHING!" I
shouted at her. "Jack please!" She said. "In position Admiral." Paris
said. "They are coming about ma'am" harry said. "B'Elanna call up the
prefix codes for the Okinawa. Input them into the computer and then begin
accessing their systems." She said. "The prefix codes why didn't I think of
that." I said. "Prefix codes entered I have access." B'Elanna said. We took
another hit. "Shields at 4%" Harry said. "Oh shit.  B'Elanna lower their
shields and target their weapons and engines."  Kathryn said. "Target
locked." B'Elanna replied. "Fire!" I screamed. I saw as 3 quantum torpedoes
struck them "Direct hit. Their weapons and impulse engines are down." Harry
told me. "Hail them." I ordered. "On screen." Harry replied. The view
screen came to life and there sat Admiral Layton. "Well played captain. I
shall be seeing you soon." He said before he closed the channel and his
ship took off at warp.

"Come in." I said as the door chime to my ready room went off. The doors
opened and in walked Tom with a pad in his hand. "Damage report for you
babe." He said as he sat down at my desk. I set my coffee down on the table
and took the pad from him. I read it over and then looked at him. I sighed
and threw the pad onto the table and got up, walking over to the window. He
looked at me for a second before standing up and walking over to me. "Jack
everything will be fine." He said to me. "Will it? Remember your temporal
physics lessons I gave you. For every action there is a ultimate
reaction. And here we have it." I told him as I turned to face him. "What
do you mean?" He asked me. "My future self and Kathryn's future self broke
the temporal prime directive and got us home early. And now that we are
here the federation is at War with itself. This should never have
happened." I told him. "That's not our fault, it's just something we have
to deal with.  Like everything else that's happened while we have been back
it's just something we deal with." He told me. "Your right as usual." I
said smiling at him. He pulled me in for a hug and I wrapped my arms around
his waist and rest my head of his shoulders. "No matter what happens just
remember I will always love you." He told me. "I love you too."  He
said. "Captain to the bridge." Paris said over the comm. "On my way." I
replied. I kissed Tom before we left and exited the ready room.


As I walked onto the bridge the first thing I noticed was the big blue and
green planet on the view screen and I knew I was back home. "Captain we
have 15 starships on approach all lead by the Enterprise." Paris told
me. "On screen." I ordered as Tom and I sat in our seats. "We are being
hailed." Harry said. "On screen." I said. "Captain Carter." "Captain
Picard." I replied. "We are here to escort you to Earth." He told
me. "Shame you didn't think of that an hour ago when the Okinawa was
attacking us." I told him. "My apologies."  He told me. "It's not a problem
captain." I told him. "I'll see you at Starfleet Command Captain. Picard
out." He said before ending the transmission. "Mr Paris take us to earth
and enter orbit." I told him. "All Admirals please report to the bridge." I
said over the comm.

10 minutes later and we were in Earth's orbit and the president and all
admirals had joined us on the bridge. "Madam president I would advise that
we beam down to earth and convene a meeting with the remaining Admirals
that are on earth and assess the situation." Kathryn said. "Indeed however
I would like to make an addition to that. Captain Carter and Commander
Walker I would like you to attend as well." She said looking at us
both. "Yes ma'am" I replied. "Then let's move shall we." The president told
us.  "B'Elanna the ship is yours." I said as we all moved to the
turbolift. "Deck 8" I said as we all entered. After a short ride we all
arrived at transporter room 1 and beamed down to Starfleet command and we
were now sat in the meeting. "How many ships does Hayes have?" I asked. "At
the minute we know that he has at least 3500 starships under his command."
My father told me. "Damn, what is the actual recorded amount of starships
that are still in service?" I asked. "Given the recent dominion war effort
it has taken some time to update records and find out an exact
figure. However we know now there are 5300 in service including Voyager."
Admiral Ive explained. "So Hayes has more than half of our ships?" I
asked. "That's right." Kathryn said. "So how do we know who's on what
side?" I asked. "That thankfully is an easy answer. Hayes has given all of
his ships a number between 1 and 3500 to use as their transponder
codes. Command staff here at headquarters discovered this and began
conducting scans. With help they have discovered the ships that Hayes has
so he knows and now so do we. We have now black listed all those ships that
have his codes so we know what ones are ours. We have then contacted our
starships and had them return to earth. I received a final total that we
have 1800 starships around Earth. Voyager was the last one to arrive." My
mother told me. "Well it looks like we have got a lot to do." I
stated. "Your right Jack we do have a lot of work to do. The idea now is to
put this rebellion away.  The president has told me she wants this over as
quickly as possible. Our allies have all made their position clear as have
we, this is an internal matter and we want it treated as such." My mother
said. "Has there been any news on who will become the new Commander in
Chief will be?" I asked. "In fact Captain Carter, I have come to a
decision." The president said from the head of the table. "Ma'am?" I
asked. "I have thought long and hard about this and have come to a
conclusion. To you all I will say that I had 3 candidates in mind, Admiral
Julie Carter, Admiral Edward Jellico and Admiral Kathryn Janeway." She said
and I looked at my mum and Kathryn who were both shocked, "I have come to
my decision. One of you is about to remove your 3 pip bars from your collar
and uniform sleeve and replace them with 5 pip bars." The president
said. "Admiral Kathryn Janeway please stand." The president then said. I
was shocked. "It has become apparent to me recently that you are a very
formidable woman and we need a woman like you to lead Starfleet. Given the
number of combat hours you put in during your voyage through the Delta
Quadrant and the fact that you survived has amazed me. It therefore gives
me great pleasure to promote you to the position of Commander in
Chief. Congratulations you are now the new head of Starfleet." The
president said shaking Kathryn's hand and the whole room erupted into
applause. "Thank you all. I accept this position and the responsibilities
that come with it. I assure you that I will not be making any of the
mistakes that Hayes has done and I will not rest until this civil war is
ended." Kathryn said.  The president proceeded to attach the admiral bars
to Kathryn's Collar and sleeves. "Ladies and Gentlemen we have a lot of
work to do, so let's get down to business." Kathryn said.

"Captains log stardate 25163.4 over the course of the last 3 hours we
discussed everything in the meeting with the Admirals. It was decided that
all starships would put into dry-dock or a starbase for re-arming of
weapons and any repairs that needed to be made. During this time it is down
to me to meet with Kathryn and co-ordinate a new fleet plan and put ships
in to fleets. I have to admit I find this whole experience of being the
captain of the flagship to be unsettling. I am in charge of the entire
federation fleet. After repairs and re-arming is complete each fleet would
be sent out to try to locate and find the rebel base and once it had been
found all ships will move in and take the base. Not much work to do
then. Voyager has the honour of going into space dock first and we are
currently docked at McKinley station undergoing repairs. Commander Walker
is co-ordinating the repairs and getting the ship back in working
order. All I can say now is Admiral Hayes, you better be worried. Starfleet
is coming after you. End log." I said as I finished my log.
