Chapter 11.

"She's the kind of girl who'll smash herself down
In the night
She's the kind of girl who'll fracture her mind
`Till it's light
She'll break her own heart"
-Regina Spektor

"Move over, flannel!" Olivia demanded, as she looked down at Judith and
her hideous shirt. "Hey, what's your problem?" Judith was immediately
pissed off at the bitchy cheerleader. "It's ok. This is Olli's cousin.
Olivia, right?" Christian asked. Olivia nodded and then stared once again
at Judith with taunting eyes and a fake smile; waiting for her to move.
Judith stared back, trying to seem...not intimidated. It didn't work.
Olivia saw right through the other girl and she let her enlightenment be
known verbally with a rude, "Well?" Olivia folded her arms. Judith's eyes
darted from the mean girl to her best friend, whom she was sure, would
defend her from the bully. Christian gave Judith a, `just do it' face, as
his anticipation started to build.

/ Mother: Don't make that face, Oliver. I'm not the one you should blame.
You bring everything upon yourself. /

"Fine!" Judith dramatically pushed her chair back and stood up in a huff,
arms wrapped tightly around her offended body. "Come sit by me, Judith. I
have to tell you about a dream I had." Judith almost fainted when
Constantin uncharacteristically addressed her. She fluttered over to his
side of the table, happily pulled up a seat next to him and stared intently
into his eyes. "Dream?" She asked dorkily, as she awkwardly leaned a rosy
cheek onto the palm of her hand, trying not to seem too interested.

/ Father: Your mother tells me you're not eating. Fine by me, but you can
at least make an effort with her, Oliver. She is you mother. /

Once in her stolen seat, Olivia turned to Christian and spoke. "Do you
have any money for food? I'm starving." Christian looked back at her with
wide eyes, before answering. "Umm, in a minute. First let's talk about
Olli." He couldn't hold in his smile. "Yeah, yeah. We'll get to that,
but how do you expect a girl to talk, when she's about to waste away?"
Christian hid his anger the best he could, as he got out his wallet. "Ok,
how much do you want?"

/ Mother: Here...this way you won't be behind with you studies when you
transfer to another school. /

"I only want a salad and maybe a muffin." Christian tried to hand Olivia
some cash, but she wouldn't take it. "Could you go get it for me? I
really do feel weak." Christian was flabbergasted, but he reluctantly
stood up to fetch Olivia's food. The loud noise his chair made as he
angrily abandoned it caused some of his tablemates to cringe. "And a
bottled water...with a straw...and make sure it's the kind that bends!"
Olivia called out after Christian and then turned her attention to the
dumbfounded faces, glaring at her from around the table. "What?" She
asked innocently, as she got out her compact and applied a little powder to
her nose.

/ Mother: Do you know how terrible it is, not being able to trust your own
son? Oliver, are you listening to me? /

Christian quickly returned with Olivia's tray of food and set it down in
front of her. "Where's the fork?" She asked crossly as she searched the
tray. "Oh, here." Christian set Olivia's fork to the right of her food,
after realizing it was in his hand. "You know? I'm suddenly not that
hungry anymore." Olivia said devilishly, as she pushed the food away.
"I'm starting to think this is some kind of game to you!" Christian's
patience was wearing thin. "What are you talking about?" Olivia acted as
if she were clueless.

/ Father: I'm going away for a while. If I hear that you've disobeyed your
mother again, believe me...you won't be happy on the day that I return. /

"Let's just get this discussion over with so we can go back to not knowing
each other!" As the words left his mouth, Christian almost regretted
them...almost. Olivia smiled when she saw the reaction she had produced in
Christian, but inside she was kicking herself for ruining the one chance
she had, to make these people her friends. To make up for her rotten
attitude without actually apologizing, Olivia reached forward and grabbed
the plump, blueberry muffin off of the tray. She looked at Christian as
she took a huge bite and smiled. "Happy now?" She asked with her mouth
full. "Ecstatic." Christian answered, though he was anything but. Olivia
swallowed before leaning into Christian. "Ok then. Here's the plan..."
