The Tales of Sol 7
The Guardian Angel

Crouching on top of city hall, and next to the cast iron statue for
whom our state was named after William Penn. I watched over the City of
Philadelphia the sound of this bustling city echoed below the both of
us. From within the shadow of this ancient statue I took in the view of my
city memorizing every nook and cranny. I felt the wind as it occasionally
brushed up against skin not covered by my mask, the breeze made my cloak
ruffle as it moved around me. I felt a ping from the Mother and thanks to
Dave's instance that I meditate so to fine tune the sensation I received
from the Earth which now sounded like a SONAR ping when it reached my ears,
those meditations also made it easier for me to understand some of what it
was the Earth was trying to tell me. So when I felt this one I knew it was
time I pay attention so I watched, and waited for more, if more was to
come. When I felt the wind this time it carried more than just the mixed
smell of the city below but where trouble was brewing.

Pulling out my grappling gun out of a pouch in my cloak I pointed it
in the direction I had to go. The line struck the building several feet
away. Pulling back on the line just enough to cause tension I then swung
into the night sky letting the Mother guide me. After a brief moment in the
air I landed in a section of Fairmount Park, Moving up to the closest tree
I felt it trying to tell me something not only did the meditations allow me
to understand the Earth better but also some of her children in this case
the trees and plants that made up this park. Barely, brushing the silent
sentry the tree along with the rest in the park's vegetation lead me to the
source of the disturbance. Going in a northern direction brushing up on the
next tree until I could barely hear a scream. I took off in a run using the
sound of the scream to guide me to its source. Though there was very little
light I could make out a man on top of a woman and it didn't look like it
was a mutual event.

"Let go of me!" The woman cried which just confirmed my suspicions.

"Now why would I want to do that?" the masked man laughed

He moved to remove his belt

"NO, no!" the woman cried

"I do believe the madam said no," I spoke from behind them

The man turned in my direction but never letting the woman go and continued
to unbuckle his belt "I will give you five seconds to get off of her." I
commanded.

"If you give me five minutes I will be through," The man said through
masked I could almost hear the leering

"Let her go," I ordered

"And what are you going to do about it?" He asked.

Pulling out my Fighting Pike from its place on my belt than hitting the
release button it made a sliding noise as it extended to its full length. I
placed one end on to the grass then used it as pole vault I kicked out
towards him. Landing squarely into his back I kicked him off the woman,
Helping her to her feet she really looked like hell "Ma'am, go home I will
see to this honorless piece trash!" I stated

The lady ran off, from where he laid in the grass masked man looked
disappointed for a moment. Getting back on his feet and re-buckling his
belt the masked man turned to me, "Now look what you gone and done well if
I can't fuck her," The man laughed "I will fuck you," he said as he grabbed
his crotch showing me a pretty impressive package too bad it was attached
to this loser.

"I think not," I said bringing my fighting pike around first striking his
stomach then brought it around catching his left leg, and knocking him
over.

While he was still on the ground I put a foot on his chest and the Pike to
his throat enough to knock the wind out of him but not to choke him "Now
PetaQ, you will spend the next few years behind bars where you will find
out what it means to be helpless." I stated as I pulled out my grappling
gun and fired it into the night grabbing the would-be rapist by the collar
we then took to the sky.

On the corner of Market Street and 8th two cops had just stepped out from a
deli "Hey Jerry," the one cop greeted

"Hey Dave," The other greeted back

"So what is going down to night?" Jerry asked

"I?" The Dave was interrupted by a loud thump landing on their car. They
turned to see a man tied up on top of their patrol car, he had with a note
pinned to his chest. The man's pants also had a wet spot on the front of
his pants; the guy was shaking like a rattlesnake's tail one of officers
removed the note from the would-be rapist chest It read "Special delivery,
one rapist, from the Guardian Angel."

"Keep him away from me, please just take me in," The man pleads.

"Well it looks like there is a new hero in town" Jerry said.

They smiled as the guy was put into the squad car.

Swinging above the city I could hear the commotion of hundreds of people
all talking, and with the sound of car horns and tire squealing, I smiled
to myself as I left it all behind for the night.

For the Guardian Angel was now loose on the streets of Philadelphia.

Returning, to the Lair I was greeted by my mentor "Welcome home
Guardian Angel," Greeted David Matthews aka the Phantom.

"Greeting Phantom" I returned Dave was looking over the latest arsenal to
join our endeavors over the last three months or so Dave and I have been
working on a way to keep an eye on the city. Therefore, with the help of
BEATTI we were able to modernize Dave's old monitoring network and adding
new ones. Hundreds of quarter size devices I called probes were placed
throughout the city and its surrounding suburbs this will be the first
night in which they are activated. With chameleon inspired camouflage skin
the probes could blend into with any surface; their skin were resistant to
most known forms of EM surges it would take a nuclear blast or similar to
penetrate a probes skin. They can tap into all modes of communications, and
scan area the size of a city block and report the information back to
BEATTI in the form of infrared imagery.

"So how did it go to night?" Dave asked still looking at the information
now streaming through to BEATTI.

"It was pretty quiet only one mugger." I replied

"You should be happy quiet nights are rare as they are," Dave stated

"True, true then I guess I better get to work on my newest project." I said
going to the changing room removing the Guardian Angel disguise and into a
pair of coveralls. Then headed towards the Lair's repair bay where I had in
my possession a CH-53C Sea Dragon. Entering the repair bay I started to
rework the powerful aircraft for the Guardian Angel's purposes. This was
already one the most powerful chopper in the military's arsenal, not
because of its firepower but because of its lifting capabilities. I had
just added a few things like a linkup the Lair and to BEATTI's mainframe so
could monitor events when we are flying. Brushing up against the great
lady's titanium and carbon fiber fuselage I could see this mighty beast
flying in my head and I could see her being my favorite mode of
transportation.

"You need to take a break or you will burn yourself out," David said from
behind me while I was adding cable lines to her outer pylons.

"You're not the first to say that but if I am going to be effective in my
fight I need transportation this helicopter is the key." I replied

"You can't continue to run from your feelings my friend." David commented

"I have no idea what you are talking about," I responded while putting
another transistor in the Sea Dragon's RADAR package moving the antenna
around making sure it moved freely.

"Yes you do I have heard the screams Mike I have seen you cry when you
think I am not looking." Matthews commented

"I don't cry emotions are illogical and inefficient." I replied

"No, they are not if you don't let yourself express the feelings you have
buried they will take over and cripple you." David told me.

"I have no desires to break down and cry every time I stub my toe," I
responded while tighten the RADAR package, and moved to the other panels to
see what I could enhance in the next compartment.

"Mike you rarely sleep for more then 3 or 4 hours a night," Dave pointed
out.

"I am a trained Naval Enlisted I can operate on 2 if I must," I told him

"But you are not in the Navy anymore you are here to help me fight the
forces of evil and you can't do that if you are fatigue," Phantom stated

"I have fixed jets fatigued, I have fought our nation's battles fatigued,
and I think I can fix this CH-53C fatigued." I told him

"Mike you have grown colder since I've brought you in is there something
you are not telling me?" Dave asked

"If there was don't you think I would?" I asked back moving to make a power
cord that was compatible with the Helo's power terminal.

"No you wouldn't because you have to keep your secrets from me for whatever
reasons I can't say." He replied

"The Mother hasn't had a complaint with me why are you?" I asked

"That is because the Earth will love you no matter what and you can't hide
your feelings from her as easily you can them hide from me," Dave responded

Dave turned and left the repair bay and I just huffed out my frustration
and continued my work until I had to finally give in to my body's demands
and I left for the night.

Awakening the next morning was Saturday, and I felt a lot better,
after getting a shower and having breakfast, I started my day by going into
my basement. I began working on building a Holo-Room in my own home for
when I need extra practice or just need to blow off steam.

I was able to install BEATTI into my home creating a computerized home, and
she has been an even bigger pain in the ass here.

As annoying as she can be I have no one to blame but myself I created her
after all, and like master like computer.

"So BEATTI is the Holo-Room ready?" I asked

"Affirmative," She replied

"Cool, how are the Diagnostics going on the Sea Dragon?" I inquired

"They are 33 percent complete there was an error in the start-up software,"
The computer reported

"What kind of error?" I asked

"There was a hiccup," She reported

"How are things now?" I asked

"The error was corrected and diagnostics should be complete in 12 minutes"
BEATTI reported.

"Good," I replied

Once I stepped out of the Holo-Room I had lunch then headed out to a park
just to relax I sat there taking in the site of the park, and the people in
the park.

One family for some reason caught my attention they had a little
boy who was drink a soda. At first I thought nothing of until the clouds
above them moved and I could make out some details on the little boy face
and arms. There were several scratches on his arms, and a small but
noticeable welt on his left cheek. He also had a bruise over his right
eye. Thanks to my military training I learned to notice every detail, again
I didn't think anything of it the boy looked to be 6 maybe 7 years old, and
was in that age group where things like scratches were normal. It wasn't
until he dropped his cup of soda that I put two and two together.

I heard the father yell in a very pronounced alcohol induced rage "Shaun
you've spilled your damn soda you fucking loser." The mother tried to
intervene "John it is only soda." Her reward was a backhand to her face.
Looking at her I notice besides the mark she just received, that she too
had small marks on her face one looked like a black eye. "My God!" I
whispered as I watched this event unfold and the child just sunk farther
and farther in his seat.

John yelled back "Maggie, It is not just the soda but this useless little
faggot trying to get more out of me,"

"I will teach you a lesson you retard" He snarled as he raised his hand,
and smack the child so hard I am sure Downtown Philly heard it. My own
blood was boiling no child deserved that kind of abuse, having seen enough
I got up and walked over to the family. The one thing people in my command
had learned was not get me steamed I have a very nasty temper. I caught the
father as he raised his hand to strike the boy again. Twisting his arm,
behind his back and grabbing hold of the drunk's filthy shirt sent him
flying to the ground.

He turned to look at me through the watery eyes of a person who's had one
too many beers I could see hatred burning through them. The smell alcohol
on his breath only confirmed my suspicions, and he yelled, "This is not
your concern!"

"It became my concern when I saw you strike your son like that in public."
I told him angrily

He got up on weary legs and moved in a drunken manner, charging me with his
fist swinging. I dodged the punches without any effort "Mister you are way
too drunk to do this." I told him. He swung his fist at me again
intercepting the punch with my left hand "How does it feel when someone
fights back?" I growled as I pulled him closer to me, than taking the heel
of right my hand I struck his chin upper-cutting him. The force of the blow
sent him flying head first into a garbage can where trash like him belonged
this time he stayed down.

I turned to Maggie she had her son in her arm protecting him "Ma'am
if I were you I would have the police pick up this trash," She looked from
her husband back to me then back to her husband again, I could see the
stress of not having that beast in her life could be without him. "I know
you are afraid of a life without him, but trust me it would better for you
and your son if that man wasn't around," it wasn't until I said that I saw
a rather hot park patrol man come up to us he said, "I will take it from
here sir,"

He turned to the woman and said, "I saw the whole thing, and he is quite
right,"

I was about to ask why chose now to intervene when he turned to me and
said, "I was too far away to responded,"

Sighing I turned to leave when he put his hand on my shoulder and
stated, "Sir I want to thank you for your response but I still need your
statement," I smiled and gave him everything including seeing the boys
wounds he thanked me again and I left for home.

Hope Island home to Gaia Spirit of the Earth it was also the place
the Planeteers had called home all those many years ago. "Her Planeteers,"
Gaia thought of them and being forced to watch as they were murdered. She
missed their presence on her island mourning the loss of their high
spirited approach to the Planet's problems. Her only regret was never
telling them the true purpose, by keeping the Earth clean and beautiful
they were keeping the dark prince at bay. With them gone Gaia had to search
for their replacement she was sent here long ago by the God to care for
this planet he created giving her the authority to protect the planet as
she saw fit. She looked into the Crystal Chamber searching for the new
Guardian. Gaia hated to admitted it but she had gotten complacent in her
duty with the rise of so many heroes and the birth of the Slayers she felt
that they handle the demons. Scaling back her intervention to just making
the Earth the paradise she knew it could be. She sighed "I should have done
something a long time ago. It took the deaths of my Planeteers for me to
act."

Her long black hair and flowing gown moved as a breeze filled the
hut. "With the rings lost there was only one other way to call Captain
Planet." She said

"I must find the nexus." she finished

I got home a few minutes later and sat down pondering how anyone
could hurt their own children it just boggled my mind.

Needing to do something I left for the Lair and went straight for the Sea
Dragon, Dave in a moment later "Hey Mike when did you come in?" He asked

"A few hours ago," I said I replied as I tighten a bolt.

"Mike what's wrong?" Dave asked

"What make you think that something wrong?" I asked back

Looking over the Sea Dragon Dave noted that it looked almost ready for her
first test flight.

"You almost have the Sea Dragon finished and you've only been here a few
hours," Dave stated

"So, because I am hard at work I am upset about something?" I chuckled

"No, but when you are really upset I could let you go, and the Lair would
have two more Holo-Rooms added to it in about three hours," Dave laughed

I just sighed, "I am fine, just have something on my mind,"

"What is it?" He asked not letting me off the hook

"I was sitting in a park just relaxing," I told him I could see the shock
in his eyes.

I smiled, "Yeah, yeah I know me relaxing,"

"Anyway one family stood out or should I say it was their son," I continued

"Was he cute?" Dave asked

"Dave! he was six years old," I said with some astonishment

"Sorry," Dave blushed

"Anyway he was just sitting there all quiet and drinking his soda," I
said I could feel the tears starting to well in my eyes. I was so angry I
wanted hit something but instead went back installing the infrared pod to
the Sea Dragon using the bolts to channel the frustration.

"But what caught my attention was he had marks on his face," I told him

I could see the wheels turning in Dave's mind

"I didn't think anything about it until he had dropped his drink," I told
him

"Dave, all the boy did was drop his damn drink, and the father hit him so
hard I swear the people in England heard it," I sneered

"What?" Dave gasped he knew I was going to say something but not this.

"He struck him and all I could see was his spirit being ripped to pieces,"
I told

Dave just sat there letting continue I just turned to him to say, "I just
don't get it Dave how can someone like that be given such a wonderful gift
like life and do that kind of thing to it,"

Dave just came up to me, and pulling me into a hug then replied, "Mike that
is a question I've asked whenever I've seen firsthand,"

"I just don't understand," I cried

"Neither do I," Dave spoke softly

Pulling away I went back to work on the Sea Dragon and Dave just let me.

Once I got as far as I was going to get with my new baby I went to
the Holo-Room and began to practice, "OK BEATTI Pennock 321,"

After fighting thugs for an hour or two I ended the program covered in
sweat I headed for the suite I had made mine. Once I showered and changed
into a pair of mesh pants, I climbed into bed and went to sleep hours into
it the image of the wee boy was replaced by another more destructive dream
one that visits me every time I close my eyes.
