Teenage Justice League

Chapter 9

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam and Cody both woke up at the sound of pounding on the door. Adam was
quite refreshed, after all, he had slept almost the whole day away before
the sexcapades began, but Cody was still half tired when he crawled out of
bed, searching for his boxers on the floor, wishing that he had put them on
the night before. When he found them it was just in time, becuase as he
slipped them on Green Lantern walked in, Adam with a bright smile on his
face.

Cody scowled at his boyfriend for opening the door without making sure he
was ready, but he didn't have much time to talk before Green Lantern took a
seat on the bed, and stared at both of them.

"Good morning." He finally said, disturbance evident in his voice, both of
them were worried that his annoyance was with them being together. "Kendral
got out last night, he slipped past security and escaped. The police are
looking for him, and we're going to leave it that way for now. We need to
work on bigger things, but I wnat to keep an eye on him, Adam, find out if
you can see what he's up to. But for some reason I don't think crime is on
his mind."

With that Green Lantern stood and left, leaving Adam and Cody alone
again. Cody just shrugged his shoulders and got up from the floor and took
a seat on the bed. Adam walked over and sat down next to him, running a
hand through his hair. "I'm gonna go get a shower."

"Can I join you?" Cody asked with a smirk.

"No, sorry, I'm just gonna get a quick one, and while I'm at it, you should
probably get one too, so that away we both are refreshed and you can go do
whatever it is Green Lantern wants as a bigger thing to work on, and I can
do whatever I please." Adam smiled and wandered into his bathroom, shutting
the door as he did so.

Cody just frowned and walked out of the room, leaving his clothes on the
floor for Adam to clean up. He was a little upset that Adam wasn't going to
shower with him, he was feeling the effects of sleeping naked pressed
closed to Adam's body, and it wasn't helpful that he was showering alone.

Meanwhile Adam was quickly finishing up his shower and drying off with a
towel. He was processing everything he had ever learned about the
predecessors to himself and fellow members of the Justice League, and he
knew that they were all dead. Everyone of them had a file, and when Adam
went over them, studied them, he never once picked up on a mind link, or
anything similar to one. Not a single thought went through his head as to
which one could even be remotely alive.

Adam quickly grabbed a pair of boxers and pulled them on. Looking around
his room he found a shirt and a pair of shorts, pulled them on and then
grabbed a notebook out of his nightstand drawer. As he pulled on a pair of
tennis shoes he ran out of his room, heading towards the old storage room
of the station. He was going to Earth with a quicker means of transport
then his feet, and also something that would help him better then one of
the space pods.

As he entered the room nostalgia hit him hard, and he sighed in sadness at
all the objects in his view. Hawkgirl's mace, Superman's kryptonite suit,
and more importantly, what he was looking for. In a corner, hung up on the
wall in perfection was Batman's flying suit, he pulled it on and tightened
it to fit his body. He knew that it wasn't the perfect working model that
it had been back in the day, but it would do him just fine. After all, he
couldn't just walk up to Nightwing and ask for his modified version without
raising questions.

Grabbing the outfit he put it on and made his way for the space pod. He got
in and set his course for Gotham, he was going to check out all that he
knew about his predecessors, that was the only way he could think of
finding out who was still alive, and why they didn't want them to know.

In all his hurry and anxiousness, he didn't really notice that Cody was
following him a good distance back. Something about the way Adam had spoken
to him made Cody wonder what was going on, and although he wasn't the type
of boyfriend to spy, he was the type of friend and hero to keep a safe
watch. Of course, he was doing it all in the name of Green Lantern, who
insisted that Adam be followed to see if he was meeting up with Virtue
again.

As Adam set down the space pod in a field Cody came to the ground a good
100 yards away behind a tree. They both knew the area, they were about a
mile from Wayne Manor, a now empty and deserted mansion. Adam turned on the
bat wings and took off in flight, better then Cody had thought he would be
able to. He waited to follow though, taking up his own flight a minute or
two later to give Adam a good head start as to keep his distance.

That might have been a mistake because by the time Cody took off, Adam was
already entering the mansion, which only gave access to members of the
Justice League. He made his way down through the secret passage into the
bat cave, shuddering at the cold air that the cave gave off. He scared the
shit out of himself when a few bats swooped down from the ceiling and
passed over his head.

"It's been a while." He muttered to himself as he tried to find a place
where he could sit and search for a mind link, he knew that if their was a
link with any of the Dark Crusaders that it would be through this cave.

Cody stopped at the entrance to the bat cave when he got to the house. He
used his x-ray vision to peer through the wall and see what Adam was
doing. He knew that he coudln't get into the room without interupting Adam,
and then his cover would be blown. He watched as Adam sat down by the old
computer, and appeared to be thinking.

He stopped looking after a few minutes, and decided to do a little
searching for himself. They had all been to Wayne Manor, a field trip is
what Green Lantern had called it. But they really weren't allowed to
wander, now was Cody's chance to check out the mansion. It had always been
a mystery to them all, the only one who really understood it was Nightwing,
who had taken the field trip to heart. Somehow he took in more than Green
Lantern could have taught them about the legacy he was fulfilling.

As Cody wandered Adam finished his searching after finding the only
connection was with Dick Grayson, the first Nightwing. But Adam already
knew that he was alive, and he also knew that Dick Grayson wanted nothing
to do with crime fighting and the Justice League, not since all his friends
had been taken down one by one. Adam sighed, his first dead end, but he had
gotten one thing out of the event, a narrower number of suspsects. In one
place he had eliminated four of the members of the Justice League, leaving
him with just four to go, not counting the Martian Manhunter.

Adam hit the exit to the bat cave and made his way out of the house. He
made his way back to the space pod, Cody had to hurry to catch up to him as
he had been busy admiring a portrait of Bruce and Dick, when Dick was still
a young teenager, he had noticed that the resemblence between Dick and Greg
was striking. But it was at that point that he heard the ignition of the
bat wings and rushed after his boyfriend, still keeping his distance.

He knew where they were heading this time though. As he followed the space
pod he knew the path so well, it was the quickest route, a straight line
from Gotham to Metropolis. He stopped behind a building as Adam landed on
the roof of The Daily Planet and couldn't help but wonder why Adam was
stopping at his mother's work place. He waited on the roof, becuase once
again his cover would have been blown if he followed.

Adam entered through the roof door, and walked down the stairs, he knew
where to go. As he entered the twenty first floor he looked around, the
people were all familiar with him, he frequently would go to work with Lois
if he was bored, and so he knew most of them by name, and was never
questioned when he showed up.

"Hey Adam, you here by yourself?" Adam turned and smile at Jimmy, the young
co-worker of Lois and Clark was now a fourty year old man, but he seemed to
have the same innocence now as then, or at least, Lois always said that.

"Yeah, I'm trying to find some stuff out, I just need to find like a quite
place or something. Maybe a closet some where, just to think for a minute,
is that alright?" Adam asked, knowing that it sounded extremely stupid.

"No problem, their's a janitor's closet down the hall, fourth day on the
right. Clark used to use it, to, well, you know." Jimmy replied with a
smile and a laugh, leaving Adam to do what he had to do.

It couldn't have been better though, a closet where Clark had turned into
Superman was perfect, it would yield the best mind link if their was
one. Although Adam was almost positive that their wouldn't be one. He shut
the door behind him as he walked in, and took a seat on the floor. He got
two very strong readings right off the bat, but none from Superman. The two
connections that he was picking up on were that of Lois and Cody, he forced
them out of his mind and concentrated harder on finding one with
Superman. He found no such connection, only another dead end.

Adam was beginning to think the whole thing was a waste of time as he
exited the closet and made his way back up the steps to the roof. He jumped
back into the space pod and flew only a few miles to the Metropolis
Cemetery. Here he knew he would find the graves of Hawkgirl and Flash, and
also the marking stone of Wonderwoman.

He landed the pod across the street and took off his wings, he didn't need
them for this part of his mission. He tossed them in the back and hit the
cloak device so he could shield the space pod. He stepped out with his note
book ready, becuase this was it, if Virtue wasn't lying to him then one of
the three heroes he had left to connect with were alive, and he was going
to need to take a lot of notes.

Cody stopped at the gate of the cemetery as Adam walked down a walkway. The
whole day was making Cody thinking something was seriously wrong with
Adam. He had no idea what his boyfriend was doing, but he was completely
aware that he was searching out all the members of the Justice League
before they became it. He wanted to walk up to Adam and ask him, but that
would ruin the idea of him keeping a watch on him. Although that was now
making Cody think twice, becuase he knew Adam was going to be upset with
him when he found out that he was following him, even if it was because
Green Lantern wanted him too.

He took a seat on a bench and decided to wait. Whatever Adam was doing was
apparently private, and he wasn't going to follow this time.

Across the cemetery Adam was walking past Hawkgirl's grave, knowing that if
she were alive Virtue would not even be around. He now had a choice between
Flash and Wonderwoman, and he was wondering if either one of them would
turn out to be alive. He was beginning to think that Virtue had sent him on
a wild goose chase, and he even looked up in the sky to see if Virtue was
around watching him. When he saw nothing he just frowned and made his way
down a small hill. He stopped at a marker and took a seat in front of it.

It was a simple reading...IN MEMORY OF A FALLEN HERO - WONDERWOMAN SERVED
US PROUD

He racked his brain relentlessly, he silently repeated her name over and
over, but nothing happened. His mind brought up it's own images of the
accident, the death of Wonderwoman, how she had fallen, and what they had
done with her.

And then suddenly a mind link was made, Adam connected with the Martian
Manhunter, and the connection was stronger then he had ever felt before,
probably because the Martian himself was a mind reader. Adam almost blacked
out as thoughts zoomed into his head, and the Martian seemed to extract
just as many from Adam as it happened.

And then it stopped, not the link, the passing of information. The link was
still strong, and Adam could visibly see the Martian's face, as though he
was looking directly into his eyes and talking to him face to face, but the
words that Adam heard were not out loud, they were solely in his mind.

"Your search is in vain, all the members of the Justice League are dead,
you are looking under the wrong guise." and then the link did end, Adam
went black for a second, unable to move as he leaned against the marker for
support. As he came to, and his vision slowly came back to him, his mind
flashed another name in front of him, his eyes lit with interest and he
stood up almost ready to scream. A lightbulb had went off and he knew why
he was getting no link.

He once again started to focus, he worked all his energy on one name, a new
name Diana, and he repeated it over and over again until finally a mental
link came to him. Without opening his eyes he began to write everything
that came to him on his note pad, and then the link ended. As he opened his
eyes disappointment hit him, he had gotten very little written down. In
fact, he only had a longitude and latitude, a place, not a name, not any
idea, but at least he knew that apparently Diana was alive.

Standing up he rushed back towards the space pod, he pushed open the gate,
not realizing that if he had looked to his left he would have seen Cody
sitting their in astonishment as his boyfriend ran right past him. Instead
he jumped into the pod and was off, leaving Cody in shock for a moment,
before he jumped to his feet and took off after him.

The flight was longer than Cody had expected, and when Adam landed on the
beach in New Zealand he was completely clueless as to what was going
on. That was even more truthful when Adam emerged with the wings on and
took off over the ocean, heading seemingly towards the south pole. Cody
shrugged his shoulders and took off after him, keeping his distance once
again.

After a while Cody noticed that it still wasn't getting colder, but they
had been in flight for at least thirty miles. When he saw a small island
almost directly in front of him he almost fell to the ocean in
disbelief. No one had told them of such an island, and as far as he knew,
one didn't exist. He was now ready to swoop up to Adam's side and grab him,
hoping that whatever Adam was doing wasn't some kind of mistake. He was
worrying for his boyfriend's safety when he hovered in the air a good fifty
yards out to see as Adam landed on the beach and put the wings down.

Adam walked slowly forward, figuring that he might as well head towards the
center of the island if he was going to find anyone. As he stepped over a
low ridge he immediately heard running footsteps and then saw two woman
charging at him with spears. He stopped in his tracks, unsure of what to
do, he didn't have time to react as Cody swooped down and wrapped him up in
his arms, blocking him from the attacking spears and threatening the woman
to come closer.

"What men dare step foot onto Amazonia?" One of the woman said as five more
stepped out from the trees and pointed spears at the two teenagers. Cody
could now do nothing to protect Adam, because no matter which way he moved
their was always a spear pointing at Adam. And as he tried to move closer
towards one woman, he realized that he was getting nowhere.

Before either boy could speak the soft footsteps of a woman approached
them, and they both looked up to see a figure from the past, a ghost of a
once mighty hero, Cody's mouth dropped, Adam's turned upright into a smile,
he had figured out Virtue's riddle, it was Wonderwoman who was still alive.

"You wear an outfit similar to Superman, your face is so striking to his,
and you exude the same courage...Who are you?" Wonderwoman asked to Cody,
who remained speechless and confused, the look was not making anything
easier.

"He is Cody Kent, son of Superman and Lois Lane. I'm Adam, we're both
members of the new Justice League...we don't come with harm in mind."

"Put your weapons down ladies, we will make an exception for these two
boys, they didn't know they weren't allowed." Adam blushed in embarrassment
as he could read the anger that came from Wonderwoman's expressions and
voice. The woman followed close behind as Wonderwoman led them to a temple,
where with a wave of her hand they departed as the three entered a room
with an elegant bed and table.

Adam tried to open his mouth and say something, at least it was better an
attempt then to stand as dumbfounded as Cody was. It wasn't well invited
though, Wonderwoman waved her hand before he could even start and took a
seat at the table. Adam followed her example and took a seat across from
her, Cody did the same, sitting by his boyfriend without any idea of what
was going on.

"Men are not allowed on this island, I once got banished for bringing men
here to save my people. You are lucky that I am now queen, and that I am
more willing to understand the follies of men, more so then my guards that
is. But that doesn't answer anything as to why you are here, and how you
even came to find the island. I know only that you are members of the new
Justice League, and my first thoughts tell me that Green Lantern sent you,
but I can not be sure if this is the truth or just my own judgment. So why
don't you tell me."

"Okay, well Wonderwoman..."

"My name is Diana, their is no longer a Wonderwoman, only a lasso and a
history."

"Sorry, Diana." Adam corrected himself and continued. "A friend of mine
told me that a member of the original Justice League was still alive, just
no longer a willing to participate in the security of world justice. I had
to know who, I couldn't just keep that inside and never find out, and it
led me to you. I'll tell you it wasn't easy, I had to keep it to myself and
go about searching in my own ways. But I found that it was you, but I need
to know why you left the League, when they were in so much trouble."

"What about him? Why is he here if you kept this information to yourself?"
Diana asked, pointing to Cody who was only now realizing what Adam had been
doing. Adam shook his head in response to her and turned to look at Cody as
well, this made Cody uncomfortable, but he knew he had to give an answer.

"I followed him on request from Green Lantern, to see if he ran into a new
strange alliance we have made."

"I see, is that how Green Lantern is teaching you? To spy on one another."
Diana replied with a smile, looking at the two with the first sign of
welcomeness during the whole meeting. "He always did have his own
techniques." As Diana smiled and laughed to herself Adam gave Cody an angry
stare before turning his attention back to her.

"He doesn't exactly approve of all that I do." Adam replied with his own
smile, knowing that Diana understood what he was going through.

"That is obvious, he sent the son of Superman out to watch you, you must be
a very important person to keep such a vigilant watch over." Diana replied
with a smile.

"Yeah, he is." Cody blurted out, Adam just gave him another look as though
he was saying don't try and weasel your way out of this.

"Yes, I'm sure he is, but let's move on to what you came to find out so
that you can leave. I don't mean to be rude, but you have already worn out
your welcome as far as my guards and people are concerned. I will have
enough explaining to do as it is, so the sooner we end this the better."
Diana replied getting back to a stern face and a serious demeanor. "I had
to leave my post in the Justice League because the peace of my people was
more important than the peace of the world in my heart. My mother passed
and a civil war broke out on this island. I was the only one who could
rightly rule the throne, but I was absent from the island. When word was
sent to me of the war I had to return, but I could not so willingly leave
my post without the attention of the world on my shoulders. The last thing
I wanted to do was let the world know about the island, or my people. By
that time we were as big of celebrities as the movie stars, everything we
did was known to the world. I blame that on your mother." Diana replied
laughing as she looked at Cody, once again she was in more caring mood.

"Sorry" Cody replied without much else to say, althoug he wasn't sure if
that was appropriate anyways.

"Oh, no, don't be sorry. Your mother needed to tell the world who she was,
who you were, it was the only way she cope with your loss. Anyways, I had
to returned to the island in secrecy, and Green Lantern and The Martian
Manhunter understood that, they knew what had to be done. So we faked my
death, I only wish we had done it in a more careful way, it was that
incident which let Luther get away for just a few more days."

"We've made that mistake too." Cody replied with a frown.

"I'm sorry to hear that, but I believe your time is up. I would have loved
to hear more about Green Lantern and Lois, and to have met more of your
friends, particularly this one who knows of my existence. But I do not have
the time for it now, and as I said before, my people will be questioning
this meeting for days to come. I will leave you with this, however, perhaps
one day I will come to visit you, unless Green Lantern has changed the lock
on me." The laugh that escaped her at this point was jovial and comedic,
Adam and Cody smiled at her brightly as she finished and began to speak
again. "Until then, I would request your silence in the news that I am
still alive. I trust the son of Superman and his lover could keep such a
secret for me."

Adam and Cody both almost choked on their own tongues when she made mention
of them dating. Adam wanted to interrupt and ask how she knew, Cody just
wanted to focus on breathing again, neither of the two got much of that
done before she started talking once again.

"I can read your signs of love, and anger." Diana laughed. "Don't be mad at
him Adam, I believe he came to follow your more out of your own safety then
that of Green Lantern's orders. Now, like I said, it is time for you to
go. My guards will escort you back to your wings." Diana escorted them out
the door and spoke to her guards in a whisper.

She waved them off as they walked back to the beach, the guards turned away
at the end of the trees and left the short walk down the hill in the sand
to themselves. Adam didn't say a word, just picked up the wings and looked
at Cody, who smiled at him, silently asking for forgiveness.

"I'll meet you back at the space station, I have to get the space pod and
then take these wings back to Wayne Manor. Tell Green Lantern he can expect
an angry me on my return."
