Pairing: Chad Faust/Patrick Flueger

Patrick Flueger shuffled into the kitchen, groggily reaching for the box of
cornflakes that sat in the cabinet over the stove. He grabbed up a bowl
and spoon for the dish strainer and bundled them in one arm as he made his
way to the refrigerator for the milk. Dragging out of the kitchen into the
dinning area he placed the items down realizing he forgot something.

"Sugar," he sighed.

"Honey," a voice too cheery for morning said from the doorway.

"Cute. I forgot the sugar."

"You certainly did," the shorter blond said, stepping into the room and
engulfing the slimmer man into a warm hug.

"I hate you in the morning," Patrick growled, sweeping the long bangs out
of his lover's eyes.

"That's okay. As long as you keep loving me at night," Chad teased before
raising up slightly on his toes and stealing a kiss from his grumpy
companion.

Patrick melted just a bit into the sweet kiss before muttering again and
disappearing into the kitchen.

"Bring me a bowl too dear," Chad yelled after him. "And put some coffee on
and two slices of toast please."

He could hear the younger man fussing through the closed door. Chad sat at
the table, his mind taking him back to the first time he'd met his 4400
costar.

For Chad Faust, it should have been the most exciting day of his
life. Filming was to start on a new television series that could put his
career on the map. The 4400 was already getting positive press even before
it aired. He had his share of minor success in movies like Saved and minor
roles in other films but this new show promised to be big.

Being a native of Vancouver meant not having to find a place to stay during
the filming unlike the rest of the cast. Having the home field advantage
didn't make his first day on the set any easier. He had been scheduled to
film the abduction scene with Patrick Flueger who was playing his cousin on
the show. He hadn't met the man yet and as always when he was starting a
new project, he was feeling slightly apprehensive.

Because it was a new show and they hadn't been given the go ahead for more
than a few episodes, the budget was tight and most of the cast was sharing
dressing rooms. Chad was to share with Patrick. He had arrived early to
stake his claim. The trailer was surprisingly small for one to share. It
had a bathroom complete with shower, an ugly brown and tan plaid sofa and
matching arm chair; a solid square oak table and chairs which he guessed
were for dinning and two dressing tables with mirrors. A coat rack which
he surmised would serve as their closet stood against the wall opposite the
bathroom. A small fridge stood in the corner of the kitchen area and there
were a few overhead cabinets.

Chad decided to make a list of some of his favorite non-perishables to
bring with him tomorrow.

"Honey, I'm home," A low voice called from the doorway before entering.

Chad looked up and took in the slim six foot frame of the young man
towering over him.

"Ah good, a grocery list," the young man sang happily. "Add Doritos and
beer."

Chad stared at the man a minute more before he found his voice.

"You must be Patrick, I'm Chad."

"Pleased to meet you. I like what you've done with the place," Patrick
said, nodding his head in approval.

Chad smiled. The man seemed to have a good sense of humor. Maybe sharing
a trailer wasn't going to be so bad after all.

Patrick walked over to the sofa and leaned down to examine it. "Looks
comfortable. Probably can sleep two."

"Are you planning on bringing your girlfriend here?"

Chad was fuming. He wasn't planning to wander the lot while this guy
screwed his girlfriend on the couch that he had to sit on too.

"No. But if we're both tired between takes, we can easily fit on this
together," Patrick said nonchalantly. "You could lie this way and I could
lie that way," he continued pointing to the opposite ends of the couch.

"I don't think that will be a problem," Chad said, feeling uncomfortable
with the way the conversation was going.

"Well suit yourself, but filming can be grueling and the chair might get
awfully uncomfortable," Patrick added, flopping into the chair and pressing
his back against it to make his point.

"Who said I'd be sleeping in the chair?" Chad fumed.

"Well I offered you my sofa, but you refused."

"Your sofa," Chad said exasperated.

"I'm taller, I need more leg room."

Chad was just about to tell the insolent young blond off when there was a
knock on the door. They were needed on set. Chad stormed out the door
forgetting all about his grocery list.

They had spent the better part of the morning staging the scene where
Patrick's character Shawn Farrell gets abducted. The scene was shot from
various angles and by the time lunch was called, both men were exhausted.
The director wanted to go over a few things with Chad and by the time he
made it back to the trailer, Patrick was already there, shoes off, and
stretched out across the sofa. The first thing Chad noticed was how big
his feet were. The myth of big feet danced merrily in his head until he
banished it. Patrick smiled a predatory grin when he realized the man was
staring at his feet. He wiggled his toes for emphasis before speaking.

"Wondering if it's true?"

Chad snapped out of his stupor and jerked his head to look at Patrick's
face, letting his eyes take a casual glance somewhere in between just to
check.

"If it is, I can't tell from here."

Chad tried to sound as flippant as possible but he was sure he was sounding
more like he was interested.

"Well if you promise not to touch, I could let you have a look."

"You arrogant little prick. I wouldn't be interested if you were the last
man on earth."

Chad turned to leave but Patrick was up in a flash and blocking the door.

"But you are interested in men," he said to Chad in a deep sultry voice.

"Get out my way," Chad demanded half-heartedly.

The truth was being this close to the taller man was awakening parts of his
body he'd just as soon stay sleeping. The last thing he wanted was to have
an affair with someone on the set of a series. Movies were different.
After a few months you could leave and never hear from the person again.
But a series, if the show got picked up, you could be trapped for years
working with someone you couldn't stand anymore.

"Kiss me and you can leave," Patrick dared the smaller man.

Chad tried to look put-off by the notion but found himself staring at the
thin pink lips of his costar.

"Why are you doing this?" Chad asked, his voice quivering slightly.

"I should think that was obvious. You're cute and I'm horny. Kiss me."

"You're crazy," Chad replied, still staring at his costars lips.

"Yeah I am, but you're considering it anyway," Patrick smiled, leaning in a
little closer.

Chad new it was crazy but he thought perhaps if he let the man kiss him
they could both get on with a normal working relationship. Chad rose up
slightly on his toes and pressed his lips lightly against the taller man's.

"There, that wasn't so bad was it?"

Chad shook his head no without giving it a second thought.

"I'll make a deal with you," Patrick began, brushing his lips against his
co star's. "If you kiss me like that everyday before we go on set, I'll
behave myself. Deal?"

Chad stared into Patrick's hypnotic blue eyes and nodded yes.

"Kiss me again to seal the deal," Patrick ordered.

Chad seemed only to be able to nod and comply with his roommate. One more
soft kiss and they left for the set.

Late into the evening they were still prepping for filming Shawn's
abduction scene. It was chilly in Vancouver and they were filming in the
wee hours of the morning while it was still dark. The scene called for Pat
and Chad to be sitting on a pile of rocks in the grass, drinking beer and
talking before a mysterious light appears over them.

Problems with camera angles and a few flubbed lines along with other
technical mishaps kept the boys out in the chilled Vancouver air longer
than either had anticipated. Chad couldn't feel his fingers anymore and
between takes he would hold on to a cup of hot chocolate just to stay warm.
Patrick opted for folding his hands under his arms and hopping back and
forth from one foot to the other to stay warm.

"Add gloves to our shopping list," Patrick whispered to Chad between yet
another take.

Chad smiled sipping his hot chocolate before offering a sip to Patrick.

"Thanks. Don't mind if I do."

Instead of taking the cup, the taller blond leaned down and allowed Chad to
tilt the cup to his lips. Patrick winked at Chad as he took a long sip of
the hot liquid and Chad shivered but this time not from the cold.

"Thanks babe," Pat winked, that hit the spot.

Chad felt his face go warm at his co star's words. "You're welcome," he
replied with a toothy grin.

"Okay," the director called, "That's a wrap for now. We'll be back here
tomorrow at 3:00 am."

As the crew dispersed Chad and Patrick walked backed to their trailer to
gather their belongings before going home.

"Where are you staying," Patrick asked as they entered the trailer.

"I actually live here. I grew up in Victoria but I have an apartment about
forty minutes away."

"I'm at a hotel." Patrick volunteered.

"We're going to be shooting for a few months, that's gonna get pretty
expensive."

"I know," Patrick sighed, "But if the show doesn't get picked up, I didn't
want to invest in an apartment."

Chad looked down chewing on his top lip as an idea passed through his head.
He was thinking about breaking all the rules he had about relationships on
sets.

"Um...you could stay with me. I mean...I live alone and it's a one bedroom
but ..."

"Are you sure?"

Chad looked up at Patrick. It was the most serious he'd heard him since
they met.

"I mean," Pat continued, "I know I've been coming on very strong and I
don't want to box you into anything."

Chad smiled warmly. He was beginning to see another side to man he'd met
earlier.

"I'm sure. Why don't we swing by your hotel and check you out and then you
can get settled in at my place."

"I have a better idea," Patrick said moving closer to Chad. "Why don't we
stay at the hotel and get a good morning's sleep and then head over to your
place."

Chad looked up, lost once again in his co star's eyes. Nodding yes once
again, he leaned up into Patrick's kiss before both gathered their things
and headed out.

Chad floated back to the present when Patrick slammed down a coffee cup, a
plate of toast and a bowl in front of him.

"Zoning out again," Patrick asked.

"Thinking about you babe," Chad said with a wink.

Before Pat could answer the bell rang.

"Could you get that sweetie," Chad grinned. He found Pat's grumpiness
adorable.

Patrick muttered something under his breath and shuffled to the door. He
looked through the peephole first, making sure it wasn't crazed fans who'd
found their address. After an incident where they had to drive for nearly
an hour to keep a car full of young girls from following them home, Patrick
was extra cautious.

"May I help you?" Pat yelled through the door.

"I have a delivery for a Mr. Patrick Flueger and a Mr. Chad Faust," the
redheaded teen said, shuffling the envelopes as he read the names.

Patrick cracked the door open just enough to allow the man to hand him the
two small black envelopes, making sure to use his foot to keep the man from
pushing the door open any further. The teen handed him the envelopes and
turned to go.

"Do I have to sign anything?"

But the young man disappeared down the hall and towards the elevators.

Patrick closed the door and walked back to the table where his lover was
munching on toast and sipping his coffee loudly. Pat sighed and threw one
envelope towards him.

"Looks like an invitation," Chad sang happily, tearing open the black
envelope.

"No shit Sherlock," Pat growled, before sitting down heavily and opening
his own envelope.

The two men read in silence before Chad looked up at his lover curious what
he thought of the strange invitation.

"Probably another schmooze fest. We could stop by for an hour if you like,"
Pat suggested unenthusiastically.

He could tell by Chad's face that he was stoked about going and he hated to
be a party pooper. All this fame and being sought after was knew to him
and quite frankly, he wasn't as trusting as his friend about these types of
events. Seeing the bright smile on his lover's face at the prospect of
going out together had an effect on his usually sour morning disposition.

"How about we got back to bed and I'll make you a real breakfast when we
wake up."

Chad tossed his envelope aside and followed the taller man back to their
bedroom. Most of the cast and crew thought they lived together because
Patrick was having a difficult time finding a place. Now with a second
season shooting and a third one in the works, he knew they would probably
have to find Pat a separate home to protect themselves from rumors. Chad
closed the bedroom door, shutting out those worries for the moment. He
planned on enjoying whatever time he and his lover had left together in the
same house for as long as he could.

Pat pulled his lover down on top of him, peeling off his robe and touching
the pale skin beneath.

"Wanna go for a little ride," Pat asked, with a mischievous smile as his
lover straddled his hips laughing.
