When Fantasy Becomes Reality

Chapter Six: The Nature of Things

I found myself walking down the dark hallway of a freighter ship that we
had answered a distress signal to. I could feel Peters presence to my left,
his newly acquired lightsaber casting a bluish glow in front of us. The
darkness here was... unnatural. Pervasive almost. I tried to sense anyone
else on the freighter but once again felt nothing.

I glanced at Peter and could see he was just as nervous as I was. But we
continued forward, intent on finding out what happened to the crew. It was
then I heard it, the distinct sound on a lightsaber being turned off and
Peters blue light vanished. I stopped and turned to see what was wrong and
Peter was gone!

"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" I thought to myself as I began to panic. Then I saw a
red glow in front of me.

Standing twenty paces away was a figure wearing all black robes, red
lightsaber held against the neck of a terrified Peter. The face was pale,
skin drawn back, with long black hair. The Sith smiled at me.

And then he sliced Peter's throat, and he was dead just like that. The
crimson red blood seeping down the front of his robes.

"NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" I screamed and awoke.

I was sitting on my bed, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily. Peter
yelped next to me as I woke him up, he took a look at me face and began
trying to soothe me.

"Shhhh it's okay Eric, it was just a nightmare," he whispered, and gentely
stroked my bare chest. It worked and I began to calm down.

I looked at him, naked in my bed, and tears began to well up in my eyes.

"Peter," I said as I cupped his cheek "I don't want to lose you." I cried.

"That's why you're my Master silly," he said. "Plus now that I have a
lightsaber I can defend myself right?"

That's what triggered that dream, the concept that as Peter grows up and is
trained that I may not be able to protect him. Or even worse, that he be
used as leverage against me. Ahhh, the fears and pitfalls of parenthood.

I simply nodded at him, better to not dwell on what could be nor should I
crush what remains of his innocence. I held him as we cuddled back up and
fell asleep, my heartbeat returning to normal.

*************************************************************

Two months have passed since Peter had been accepted as my padawan and he
only just recieved his first lightsaber yesterday, an almost unheard of
occurance. But Peter was showing remarkable aptitude in the mastery of the
blade, the instructors commenting that he is almost a natural with it. His
communion with the Force however... well, let's just say it's lacking.

The morning after my dream I was walking the grounds with Peter next to me
when I decided to inform him of my next plan.

"Peter," I said as we stopped to observe two crab-like creatures fight over
a perch on a rock. "I have decided that we should address your difficulties
with communing with the Force."

Peter looked down ashamed, "I'm sorry Eric, erm I mean Master, please you
aren't sending me away are you?"

He looked up at me on the verge of tears, how far he has come but still
there is so much further he needs to come.

"Oh heavens no Peter," I hugged him to me to comfort him. "Peter, I swore I
would never abandon you and that is final. I would rather leave the Jedi
Order than to lose you, understand?"

He nodded and smiled at me. "Good, well I have a plan to remedy your block
in this area. A trip."

Immediately he perked up. "A trip?! For real?! Awesome! Where are we
going?"

I chuckled at his enthusiasm. "Not too far, but certainly not the safest of
places. There is a planet that is close to the Force called Devaron, a
sparsely inhabited place with an ancient Jedi Temple."

"Soooo looking at some old ruins is supposed to help me?" He asked.

"No, but there is a man who lives at the top of one of the peaks, he is
said to be an oracle of some kind. If anyone can assist you it is him."

He looked thoughtful for a moment. "Okay, so when do we leave?"

I smiled at him, "Tonight."

So that is how we found ourselves; Peter, Jax and myself aboard my ship
headed towards Devaron. Luckily the planet wasn't too far out of the way
and only took a few hours to get there via hyperspace. As we were in
transit I glanced over at Peter who looked troubled.

"Okay, tell me." I said.

He jumped at the words, "What? I'm fine, why?" He tried to put on his most
convincing smile.

Seeing through the facade I prodded further, "Peter I know you better than
that, something is bothering you so spill the beans."

He sighed, "Fine. I was just thinking... don't you ever wish that things
could be normal? I mean I appreciate everything that you've done, and I
love the idea of becoming a Jedi, but I guess ignorance is bliss too. I
sound stupid, forget I mentioned it."

"Peter, I know exactly how you feel." He looked up at me sharply, surprise
painted on his features. "I sometimes look back and wonder how nice it
would've been to have a normal job as an accountant, have a family and
friends, and all of that. But, that isn't what life had in store for me,
nor for you either."

"So it's not just me?" He asked.

"No it's not, everyone wishes that their life were different than what it
is. The curse of sentient existence is to always strive for more or better,
just live in the now."

He giggled softly, "Wow that was actually pretty wise."

I looked at him, "Well I am your Master for a reason you know, I know some
stuff." I winked at him and he rolled his eyes at me.

**********************************************

We arrived at Devaron without incident, stepping off the ship Peter looked
around apprehensively. The looming trees of this jungle planet seemed to
almost be threatening.

"You okay Peter?" I asked.

"Yeah, it's just these trees seem so dense and forboding. It's almost as if
I can feel their presence watching me."

I smiled, I knew that bringing Peter here would help him open up to the
nuances of the Force in all its facets.

"Umm, so Master? Where exactly is this Oracle supposed to live, do you know
the place?" Peter asked.

"Ahh I am glad you asked Padawan. As it turns out I met this Oracle when on
a mission a few years back, although I suppose he could have moved on by
now but that is unlikely. To him time flows differently than it does for
us, he has been mediatating with the Force for the past 100 years. I'm sure
he is already aware of our presence here."

"Wait, one hundred years?! What kind of species is he?" Peter exclaimed.

"Haha, he is human Peter. You see when one is in perfect harmony with the
Force for long enough, unexpected benefits arise. In his case it is
prolonged life." Or it could be all the drugs he does, I thought to myself.

Peter and I continued our way through the dense jungle, with only my
connection to the Force to guide us. I could feel the Oracles presence
since landing and used it to find him. Peter on the other hand was blindly
following me. Finally we reached a clearing with a stone dias sitting in
the center. There sitting serenely in the sunlight was the Oracle.

To the observer he almost seemed to be dead for how little he moved. Frail
and old would be how most would describe him, he sat with his legs crossed
and hands clapsed in front of him wearing only a brown cloak and
trousers. As we entered into the clearing his eyes opened and Peter halted,
surprised. The Oracles eyes were completely white, having lost his sight
many years ago yet he could still pinpoint exactly where we were by sense.

"Ahhh Eric, I have been expecting you. And hello to you too Peter," the
Oracle said.

"Wh-what? How do you know my name?" Peter asked.

The Oracle chuckled, "You need not block your mind from me young man, the
Force told me in a vision that you were to come. So I have been expecting
you both."

Peter still looked dumbfounded so I too the initiative. "Oracle, my padawan
has thus far shown great aptitude in the ways of the Jedi but has
roadblocks when it comes to using the Force. Is there a way for you or I to
help him?"

"I'm afraid not Eric, I cannot teach one who has not yet taken his first
steps. Unlike Peter, when you and I met you had already been accustomed to
using the Force and I was able to build upon your natural Talent. But
sensing and using the Force cannot be taught, only learned."

That made sense in a way. I had discovered who and what I was early on and
had used the Force, Peter on the other hand has not had the same
unfourtunate circumstances and so his skill has yet to be released.

"It is growing late my friends, perhaps you would join me for dinner and we
can think of what our next steps ought to be." The Oracle suggested, I
readily agreed as I was at a loss of what to do next.
**********************************************************************************************

Peter, being a typical teenage boy, was none too pleased to find only
vegtables for dinner but the smell soon erased all his doubts. After the
meal we sat and began to plan what to do next.

"In times past," the Oracle said, "young Jedi were put through increasingly
complex and frustrating trials until their use of the Force was
awoken. That practice ended when some padawans died in a very dangerous
trial set up by an unstable Master." Peter looked at me questionly as if I
knew who that was.

"Ahhhh," the Oracle said with understanding. "I see you have yet to tell
him then, Eric please enlighten Peter as to what you know of the man."
Sometimes I hate mind reading.

"Eric?" Peter asked.

"Alright, Peter I'll tell you. As I said before I killed a sith a while ago
with a very powerful brother out to get me. Well it turns out that he is
the same man of whom the Oracle just spoke of. He was... dark... and
dangerous in his time. Often intentionally putting padawans in danger
feeling that only the strong and powerful could survive. After being cast
out he joined with the Sith and the rest is history."

"Okay, so what does this have to do with me?" peter asked. I looked at the
Oracle worriedly, understanding what his intention was.

"Well Peter, our time is short and great darkness will soon approach you
and Eric, so I suggest we put you through the trials," the Oracle said.

Peter looked horrified, "What?! But you just said people died doing those
things!"

"Peter," I said as I turned him to look at me, "they were never meant to
succeed, but both me and the Oracle will be here to guide you alright?" He
nodded his head. "Isn't that right Orac- ah Shit!" The Oracle was asleep,
snoring softly.

"Is he asleep?" Peter asked.

"Yep, hasn't changed at all. Just as old and annoying as ever. Come on,
lets find a place to sleep you have a long day ahead of you." Little did we
know what was in store for us the next day.

We awoke that morning only to find the Oracle was gone. He tended to vanish
when danger was nearby and so that was the first sign I had that something
was off. I shook Peter awake and told him to get dressed.

"Is something wrong?" He asked groggily.

"Yes, there is a darkness that was not here yesterday. I fear something has
arrived and does not have friendly intentions."

Peters face turned pale, "We should leave then! Get on your ship and let's
get out!"

"No point," I replied. "they already know we're here. The best I can do is
find a way to get you out of here and hope to hold them off while you
escape."

"Eric, stop. Stop being so fucking noble okay? We will escape together now
how do we get to your ship?" I smiled at his confidence, I only wished I
could have felt the same way. But that presence...

******************************************************************************

So we walked. The forest was both ominous and it provided excellent
coverage as we made our escape. It was only once we reached my ship did I
realize how seriously I had miscaculated. Standing there at the enterance
to my ship was a Sith, he had waited for us to run.

Judging by the lightsaber in his hand I was guessing this wasn't another
assassin, in fact his presence almost felt... familiar.

"My master wants you dead," he said in a raspy whisper. "You killed his
brother and have evaded him all this time, but no more. When he wants a job
done he sends me."

"Wow," I said "I didn't know Mr. fancypants had gotten a new
apprentice. You know, since I killed the last four-" the last word coming
out in a choke as the Force gripped me. He was strong, stronger than any of
the others I had faced so far. I tried to reach out to the Force but a
strange pressure blocked me. I turned to Peter, "R-run!" I choked.

Peter got a steely look in his eye and reached for his lightsaber, as it
hummed to life the Sith looked surprised. He looked back at me, "training
your runt to be a hero already? Pathetic." With his other hand he carefully
removed his cloak and exposed his own lightsaber. The two stalked in a
circle, almost a perfect imitation of my own first encounter.

All I got was a twitch of a notice before they were on each other. Peter
moved with incredible skill, far more than I ever would have with a
blade. Had I been able to use the Force I would have wiped the floor with
this Sith, but that strange pressure barred me. So I watched enraptured at
the duel before me. Both were fighting to kill, but although peter had
incredible talent with the blade moving like a leopard through stances, the
Sith had far more experience and fought dirty. Finally, Peter began to lose
ground before finally he was disarmed, lightsaber flying off to the side.

"Now that that's taken care of," the Sith turned back to me. "thank you for
waiting like such a good boy, ready to die?" His lightsaber hummed as if in
anticipation of shedding my blood. Slowly the Sith placed the red blade
inches from my throat.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!!" The scream came from Peter. Though beaten and disarmed he
rushed at the Sith, but was pushed back by the Force. He repeated this two
more times. "Peter," I said, " just go while you can. I'll always be with
you."

With those words the Sith began moving the blade closer to me and suddenly
I felt a shift in Peter. I looked over and a bluish aura surrounded him as
he looked daggers at the now concerned Sith.

"Put my Master down." And with that warning Peter threw the full weight of
the Force on the Sith, who himself couldn't stand a chance. Have you ever
watched a flower bloom? Yeah well imagine that and you essentially get what
happened to the Sith, needless to say it was bloody. Peter passed out from
the strain.

I carried Peter back to the clearing to let him rest, and there sitting was
the Oracle, smiling knowingly.

"You know," I said as peter slept, "I really hate your plans, at least tell
me them before you take action next time." He just smiled wider.

"You're welcome," he said.

"No seriously,"I replied, "I'm never asking for your help with this crap
again."

"Eric?" Peter asked sleepily, "Where are we?"

I knelt down and cupped his cheek, "We're safe now thanks to you. Can you
feel the Force fully now?" He nodded his head. "Good, then this trip wasn't
a complete disaster."

Carefully Peter picked himself up and together we made our way back to the
ship, just before leaving the clearing I flipped off the Oracle.

"It was nice seeing you too Eric!" he called back.
***************************************************************************************

Back on the ship we had a few hours to spare, so after slowly licking my
way up Peters body to his throbbing penis and making him squirm and moan in
pleasure, I decided to thank him properly.

"Peter," I said softly, looking into his beautiful eyes. "I love you."

His eyes teared up, "I love you too Eric. We'll always be with each other,
that way we can both protect each other always." And with that we cuddled
in closer with each other and fell asleep in one anothers arms.

The End
