Chapter 1- How It Started


I'm Jamie Lee, but my real names Jamie Lee Thomas, and I'm 13. I'm average
height, I'm African American, but I have that mocha/caramel skin that even
I envy. I have black hair that looks brown in the summer and coal black in
the winter. You see, my mom and dad are both African American, but my dad
has really close Indian relatives and hence the skin color and hair length:
it brushes my ears. And on my mom's side she has really, really close white
relatives, so much that my aunt is black but can pass for white with her
light complexion and RED hair, hence the color change. Well here's the
problem or problems: first I'm bisexual and second, I'm African American so
you can see the problems there and to top it all off, apparently I'm a
mutant too! Anyway, see it all started on a normal day at school, I'm in
the seventh grade and I didn't know that I was a mutant then, I had this
killer headache and me and my friends were in our sixth hour science class,
and the bell had just rung for our recess. My best friend in the world Lily
came up to me, just so you know; she doesn't know I'm bi:

Lily: "Hey, Jamie Lee can I borrow some money? I so need a drink." She
huffed and blew some of her blonde hair in her face to give her a
dehydrated look.

"Sure," I said and handed her a five out of my wallet, "get me a PowerAde
too, I have this amazing headache."

Lily: "Thanks so much Jamie Lee, I so owe you."

"Blondie don't even play yourself, if you paid all the money that you owe
me back I'd be exactly one hundred... and twenty... five dollars richer."

Lily: "Wow you are good at math, if you'd just use it."

"It's a given gift; now go get my drink, my headaches getting worse."

Lily: "OK, go sit by the fountain, Raven and the guys are gonna meet us
there."

"Hurry" I said and walked out onto the school courtyard.

Lily: "I am!" and she ran off to the canteen area.

The school had a pretty big courtyard: I was lush and green with big shade
trees here and there were picnic benches strategically placed all around,
but my posse's main hangout was the big fountain of the school founder that
shoots water out of his hands not to far from the doors so I headed that
way. The sun was blaring and made my headache worse, but I made it there
none the less.

"Hey, Birdie, James, Lizzie, Stephen, and George." I said using Raven and
Elizabeth's nicknames.

James: "Hey, Jet Lee."

"My names: Jamie Lee, you dick."

James: "With the black belt and gymnastics metals you might as well change
your name to Jet Lee."

"And with that black belt I'll flip you on your ass and then use my
gymnastics to do flips around you."

James: (hands in the air) "Hey, I learned last time."

"And remember, don't use the words: fag, queer, or and other gay term
around me."

Stephen: "Dude, why do you hate when people use those words?"

"Because, its fuckin' mean to call people names like that, how would you
feel?"

Stephen: "What? its mot my fault that they're ass munchers."

"Dude, you know that one gets me mad on the spot, so stop," I said through
my teeth and my fists were balled.

Stephen: "Whoa dude, no fights here."

Lily had just ran up to us and saw the look on my face, she automatically
rounded on Stephen:

Lily: "Stephen did you just fuckin' say A.M.?" she used the abbreviation
for ass munchers.

Stephen: "Yeah."

Lily: "You, asshole! You know how he gets!" she pushed him and he almost
fell in to the fountain.

Stephen: "OK! I'm sorry."

Lily: "Anyways, here Jamie Lee." She handed me my ice-cold blue Mountain
Rush PowerAde.

"Thanks, Lily," I walked over and sat down next to Raven on the fountain
under the light mist and let my right hand wade in the cool water, suddenly
my headache spiked, "shit, fuck, damn, bitch," I cursed holding my temples.

Raven: "What's wrong, Jamie Lee?" her light sweet voice had an adverse
affect on me, it made my headache worse.

"I have a headache, and it just spiked," I groaned.

Lizzie: "Maybe you should see Mrs. Rick" she said referring to the school
nurse.

"Yeah, I think your right, but I'll do it when the bell rings, I'd gladly
miss Social Studies."

Lily: "I wish that could come, but I promised, Mrs. Shelly that I'd help
with the presentation today."

Lizzie: "Damn that woman, that's her second lecture this week and its only
Wednesday!"

"Well, I don't have to sit through another boring ass lect--"

I was interrupted by Steven, Tyron, and Rick the so called middle school
bullies.

Steven: "Hey faggot, what you and ya' groupies up too?"

"Steve, I don't have time to deal with your shit today," the wind picked up
and the clouds started to darken, "I have a headache and your stench is
makin' it worse."

Steven: "You little shit," he stalked up to me and got in my face, "you
better watch ya'self, my tempers cut short to day."

"Wacha' gonna' do? Sick ya' posse after me?" I looked up, I was getting'
pissed and the sky looked like it was gonna' rain any second.

Steven: "I don't need them to beat your ass," he grabbed me by the shirt
and picked me up.

George: "Steve, leave him alone."

Steven: "The fuck up, after I'm done with him you're next."

"You're not gonna' do anything, now let. Go. Of. Me," I pulled out of his
grasp and apparently I used too much force because he flew back and fell on
his ass. Everybody laughed, he got up and looked at Tyrone and Rick and
they stopped laughing.

Steven: "I'm gonna' kick your ass," he picked me up by my shirt and reared
back and punched me full in the face. I went flying about 3 feet. I got up
and was mad as hell, my head hurt even worse. I touched bottom lip and it
was bleeding! I also have this habit to growl when I'm made.

"You know what?" I growled, "This world is full of idiots and I think that
we have the ripest one of the bunch," some thunder cracked the sky and the
wind picked up, "let me show you how to kick some ass."

I grabbed his wrist before he could react and completely flipped him over
my head and onto his stomach. Everybody laughed except Tyrone and Rick who
advanced on me.

"What do you want to try and fight me too?" I was ready and willing. The
wind kicked it up a notch and the thunder and lightning cracked the sky
like a cannon.

Rick charged first and I easily did a low spin kick and he was on the
ground in pain. Then it started to rain and the students ran inside, all
but the group that was watching me, even some of the Passer Byers joined
the group when they saw me.

Tyrone charged next, but he was even easier than the other two, I just
jabbed him in the stomach and he fell. There were cheers everywhere, but
they all stopped and they were all staring at the figure behind me,
apparently Steven had recovered. I turned around to receive a bone crushing
hit in the jaw and to get punched in the stomach. I coughed up blood! I
staggered for a moment but caught myself and stared at him, I saw some of
the audience step back when they saw the way that I was starting at
him. That's when I felt myself rise from the ground, I was taken so far
back that I forgot about where I was and was running on what seemed like
instinct. Some ran away but some were too scared to move. I raised my right
hand and Steve rose form the ground, he looked completely terrified. I
dropped him and I dropped myself, and spoke in a voice mix with a man's and
women's:

"I told you that I didn't have the time, but I guess that I'll make some
time."

I pulled my hands to full length beside me and pulled them up as if pulling
up something heave: the ground started to shake and then lava started to
seep from the ground and formed a circle around Steven.

Steven: "AHH!!! STOP!!!! PLEASE STOP!?!?" the lava was burning him.

"You didn't stop when I asked you to, did you? NO!! So I won't stop
either!"

"STOP, JAMIE!!!!"

I turned around and Lily was crying

Lily: "Jamie! Please stop! You're burning him!" she pleaded, "You know I
love you to much!" she started to cry, "just like you told me `it hurts me
to know that you'd hurt other people for revenge!'"

I looked at her and her eyes were red with tears.

Lily: "Please, please Jamie, stop."

I couldn't do it. One of the people I love most in the world was crying and
I was causing it. I had to stop.

I stopped the lava and made some water from the fountain come up and cool
the lava. And then I just fell on my knees from mid air and cried.

"Lily, I'm sorry, I couldn't control myself, it was like I was some one
else, I wasn't in control."

Lily: "Jamie, it's OK," she came up to me and just held me and we just
cried, "someone get some help, I think he going unconscious!"

Most of the students just stood there and looked petrified at what they had
just seen.

Lily: "What the fuck are you gonna' do? Go find some help!"

I couldn't really understand what she was saying because I was falling in
down a deep dark hole.

Lily: "JAMIE!! JAMIE PLEASE STAY AWAKE!!" she cried, but I couldn't keep my
eyes open.
