Chapter 8

For Halloween we decided to do what we had talked about. We rented The
Rocky Horror Picture Show, ordered a couple of pizzas, and filled little
bags with candy and passed them out. The days following Halloween were just
filled with classes.

November had flown by, in two weeks we have a five day weekend for
Thanksgiving. Since it really wasn't a lot of time, we all decided to stay
at the apartment. Our parents had decided to all come up here for
Thanksgiving. It was going to be the four of us and eight parents. Rachel
and I spent our time studying as the guys had their practice. We attended
Lance's games when they played here in town.

"I'm going to have to make a list and go shopping." I said.

"Are you sure it's okay for..." Rachel started.

"You're living here with Lance. You're paying rent as well. Of course it's
fine for your parents to be here for Thanksgiving. Our parents already know
that you're living here, and they're expecting to meet your parents at
dinner." I said. She smiled.

"Alright," she said.

We continued to work on our homework while I started dinner before Seth and
Lance got home.

"Baby, we're home." Seth said.

"We're in the kitchen." I said.

Seth and Lance walked in as we were studying.

"How was practice?" I asked before kissing Seth.

"Tiring, Coach had us running extra laps every time someone missed a
catch." He said.

"How was your practice baby?" Rachel asked Lance.

"It was good. It was more strength training than anything." Lance said as
he kissed her.

"It smells great in here." Seth said.

"We're having spaghetti." I said.

Rachel got up and pulled the garlic bread from the oven as I cleared our
books from the dining room table.

"Lance, will you grab the salad from the fridge." She said.

"Sure baby," He said.

The four of us sat down to dinner and talked about our days. We also
discussed the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

"So, it's a go. All our parents are going to be here." Lance said.

"Meeting the `rents, that's a big step," Seth said. I smiled.

"Rachel's talked to mine and I've talked to hers." Lance said.

"And they must still like you." I said. Lance smiled.

"What's not to like?" He said cockily.

Rachel and I rolled our eyes and laughed.

"Did you plan the menu already?" Seth asked me.

"Yep, I just have to make a list of what we need." I answered.

"Where are moms and dads staying?" He asked.

"Everyone's staying at the MGM again. Dad made reservations and booked a
four bedroom suite." I replied. Rachel looked at me. "Even your parents
Snookums,"

"I'll call my parents and let them know." She smiled.

After dinner, Seth and Lance studied while Rachel and I watched TV.

Rachel and I went shopping for everything we needed for Thanksgiving
dinner. Lance and Seth met us outside to help carry in the groceries.

"Are you feeding an army?" Lance laughed.

"There are twelve of us for dinner." I said as we all carried the bags into
the house. "If there are any leftovers you guys will be eating a lot turkey
dishes."

They all laughed.

"What's with all the potatoes?" Lance asked.

"For mashed potatoes," I answered and looked at him. "Your mom used the
boxed stuff?"

Lance laughed.

"Yeah, she wanted to make cooking easy on herself." He said.

"There's nothing wrong with that." I said and shrugged. "Well, this year
you'll be getting a whole Thanksgiving meal from scratch. Nothing is
pre-made."

"You're going to get up early and start cooking Thursday?" Lance asked.

"I'll start the stuff that can be prepped and refrigerated or froze." I
said. He helped me put the groceries away as we continued to talk. "Like
I'll make the pumpkin pies and the cranberry sauce Tuesday night, I'll do
the custard pies Wednesday night, and everything else I'll get up and do
early Thursday morning."

"Wow!" He said. I laughed. "Seth, you better marry Danny now."

Rachel and Seth laughed from the living room.

Our parents met at the hotel. They had called when they arrived Wednesday
night and told us to meet them for dinner. The Hammonds' and my parents met
last year when they came to see us off. It was good to see them again. It
was great meeting Rachel's parents. The Bradford's are a funny couple. The
four sets of parents seemed to get along really well.

"Sweetie, do you need help with dinner?" Mom asked.

"No thanks Mom, I've got it all under control." I answered.

"Danny started cooking last night. He's got the pumpkin pies ready to bake
tonight along with making custard pies tonight. He made homemade cranberry
sauce." Rachel said.

"He's gonna make a great wife." Seth teased. I glared at him as I laughed.

"Keep it up dear." I said.

Everyone laughed as Seth wrapped his arms around me and kissed my neck. Our
parents grinned at us.

We walked into the buffet and made a beeline for the food. The twelve of us
all talked and laughed with each other. Our parents getting to know Rachel
and Lance better as their parents got to know me and Seth.

Everyone was full once we left the buffet.

"What are you four going to do now?" Mom asked.

"I've got to get home and do some baking." I answered.

"We're all going home and helping Danny," Rachel said.

"Well, we are going to get some drinks and then head over to New York New
York and watch Zumanity." Dad said.

"We all went to see it last weekend. You're all going to love it." Rachel
said.

We hugged all the parents and left them to their own devices.

Thursday afternoon our parents rang the doorbell. The three of us dressed
in khakis and polo shirts as Rachel wore a nice rusty orange colored blouse
with a light billowy skirt filled with green, orange, red, and yellow. She
looked like a pretty forest floor that was covered with autumn leaves.

"You're all dressed up," Mrs. Thompson said.

"Since we don't dress up very often we figured we'd dress up for you guys."
Seth said kissing our moms. We all followed suit.

"We brought over some wine." Mr. Bradford said.

"Do you need any help sweetie?" Mom asked.

"Nope, I've got it all taken care of. The turkey is almost done and then
I'll throw the ham in for a little while to warm it up along with the sweet
potatoes and green bean casserole." I answered.

Mr. Thompson opened a bottle of wine and poured a glass for all of us.

"And just because we're letting you all drink tonight doesn't mean we're
promoting underage drinking. It's a special occasion and you're all
drinking with your parents so we made an exception." Mr. Thompson said.

We all smiled.

We sat down to an early dinner at five. As Seth carved the turkey we sat
and talked.

"So Danny, I was looking at the paper the other day. I saw that a new
restaurant that opened up was hiring. Would you like to go down and apply
with me?" Rachel asked.

"That sounds like a great idea." I said.

"The place is down by the Hard Rock. It's called The Currents." She said.

"What about coming to our games?" Lance asked.

"We don't go to all your games." Rachel said.

"That's true," Seth said.

"It will be good to fill our time with something other than sitting around
here." I said.

"You four don't have to work," Dad said.

"We know, but it would be good to have extra spending money rather than
having to depend on you guys all the time." I said. Our parents nodded.

Dinner was great! Everyone ate their fill.

"You did an excellent job." Mom said kissing my cheek. I grinned.

"Thanks!" I said.

The women sat at the dining room table drinking wine as the guys all
watched football. Rachel and I went to the kitchen and cleaned up.

"I'm surprised there aren't more dishes." She said.

"Clean as you go, always helps out in the end." I laughed. She smiled at
me.

The twelve of us sat around and talked the rest of the evening.

"What are you all doing tomorrow?" Mrs. Hammond asked.

"Danny and I are going shopping. There are a few stores that are having
sales that we want to go to." Rachel answered.

"Why aren't we invited?" Lance asked.

"Because some of the things are for you two," She said pointing at him and
Seth.

"And you two would snoop through the bags." I said.

"We would not." Seth and Lance protested. Everyone laughed.

"If you two want to go shopping by all means," I said.

"Fine, Lance and I will go shopping by ourselves." Seth said and stuck his
tongue out at me.

"Dude, what time are we going shopping?" Lance asked Seth.

"What time do the sales start?" Seth asked.

"They start at six." I said.

"And they end at eleven." Rachel finished.

Seth and Lance looked at each other.

"We're not going shopping." They both said. We all laughed.

Our parents left after midnight. Rachel and I decided to camp out in the
living room since we were getting up early. Seth frowned as he looked at
me.

"Sweetie, I don't want to wake you when we get up early." I said as I
kissed him.

"Alright babe," Seth said.

We were up early, showered, and dressed before six. We left with our cups
of coffee.

"Thank God we don't do this everyday." She said. I laughed.

"I know." I agreed.

"Let's get our day of shopping started." Rachel said. We started at
Wal-Mart first for their Blitz sale.

We spent the morning at Wal-Mart, Target, Sears, Penney's, Dillard's,
Sak's, and other stores, marking off our list of Christmas gifts that we
were picking up.

"I'm hungry," Rachel said.

"Well, let's grab some lunch at Makino's." I said.

After lunch we headed home with our bags. Most of the gifts were wrapped at
the gift wrapping station in the mall. None of the gifts were tagged but I
knew what color went to whom, as did Rachel.

"Did you two have fun?" Seth asked.

"We had a great time." Rachel said.

"Our Christmas shopping is done." I said.

"We gotta do our shopping bro," Lance said to Seth.

"How about we go out tomorrow?" Seth said.

"Sounds like a plan." Lance replied.

"What are you two going to do?" Seth asked us.

"We'll head down to The Currents and apply for a job." Rachel said. I
nodded.

At eleven we all left. Seth and Lance headed to the mall as Rachel and I
headed down to The Fruit Loop.

"Hello, welcome to The Currents, how many in your party?" The hostess said.

"There are two of us but before we ate we wanted to apply for a couple of
positions they have available." I said.

"You're in luck. The owners are here today. I'm Whitney by the way."

"Hi Whitney, I'm Danny and this is Rachel." I said shaking her hand.

"Follow me," She said.

We followed her to the bar area.

"Hi guys, there are two more applicants here for you." Whitney said. The
two men sitting there were laughing and joking around.

"Bitch, that guy was hot." The one said.

"I'm not looking for hot people that are going to treat our customers like
crap." The other said. The other guy sighed deeply.

"Yeah, you're right." He agreed.

"It's the customers that bring in the business and if our employees are
going to treat them like crap do you think they'll want to come back?" The
other said. The two men looked at us. "Sorry guys,"

"Guys, this is Danny and Rachel." Whitney said. We shook their hands as the
two men stood up.

"I'm Michael Norton," The one that called the other bitch said.

"And I'm Colin James. You can call me CJ." The other said with a smile.

"My name is Rachel Bradford." Rachel said.

"And I'm Daniel Harris," I said.

"Have a seat, let's talk." Michael said.
