Blind Leading The Blind       Chapter 16


The four boys all woke up later on Saturday. They all knew the Sunday was
their last day of vacation. Monday would be the start of school
again. Kolby was really looking forward to going, he had gone to school
before but always to a special school just for the blind. This was the
first school that he would attend that was not a private school and he was
very excited.

Shane was about to start the school year in a different way as well. This
will be the first time he has a chance to go to school and while there he
would be able to take care of Kolby. This was really a new feeling for him,
he had never had the opportunity to be able to spend the entire day with
the person the he was in love with and he was excited to be able to hold
hands in school even though no one knew that he was holding his boyfriends
hand. Shane was well known around school. He was always there to help
anyone. That had always served him well. Last year when he was having
trouble with math, Scott offered to help him. Scott had remember that while
he was out late one night he had gotten lost and the only person he could
call was Shane. Shane had made a commitment to Scott that anytime he needed
anything just call and he would be there.

Cory and Lyle had an advantage, They knew Shane and that put them in good
company. One everyone found out that they were Shane's friends they would
most likely not have any problems and in fact would probably be well looked
after. This would be Lyle's first test to see if he could cope in high
school and having to be around a lot of older boys. He would have to keep
his mind occupied with things other than the naked boys in the locker room
before and after gym.

Cory had always been sort of the big man on campus at his old school. He
was thinking that this could easily be one of the best times he has had so
far. He also knew that he could very easily say or do something that an
older boy may not like and he would have to pay the price .  Cory Had
planned to make the most of the fact that he was friends with Shane and
that it would be a good way to get his foot in the door so to speak.

The boys all went downstairs and were ssurprised to see that mom had out
done herself in preparing breakfast this morning. They walked into the
kitchen and came face to face with Eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage,
toast and hash browns. all of their eyes got really big and mom just
stepped aside to avoid the mad dash for the table. There where hands flying
everywhere eggs disapperaing, bacon seemed to vanish right before her
eyes. Kolby would have been at a big disadvantage if not for Shane and
Lyle. The stack of pancakes seemed to make their way into two stacks one on
Shane's plate and the other headed for Lyle's. Lyle split the pancakes and
put two on Kolby's plate and asked how he like them.

Kolby said " Little butter some syrup, about 4 sausages and some hash
browns.

Lyle made sure that Kolby had everything he wanted on his plate before he
started to eat. Lyle being the smallest of all four boys was holding his
own but could not keep up with the other three when it comes to putting
food away. . Lyle finished first got up and put his plate, glass and
silverware into the dishwasher and then walk over to mom and hugged her and
said " thank you very much that was the best breakfast I have had in a long
time. "

Mom said " It does my heart good to see you boys eating so well. "  Mom
heard someone knocking on the front door. It was quite early yet and she
was wondering who could it be. She answered the door and there was an
elderly man there wearing what looked like a very expensive suit. She asked
may I help you.

He said that his name was Mr. Arthur H. Fitzgerald, attorney at law. He was
there representing James R McCarthy. Mr McCarhty was the grandfather of
Shane. I am here to inform Shane that his grandfather had found out that
his parents legally seperated themselves from the boy and that he is now
living here with his companion, Is this information that I have correct.

Mrs Hendricks acknowledged that in deed everything that he had said was
correct.

He asked if it would be possible for him to see the boy.

Mrs. Hendricks smiled and said that she would go and let him out of the
basement.

Mr. Fitzgerald had a puzzled look on his face and repeated in the basement.

Mrs. Hendricks turned and smiled and said I am only kidding He is in the
kitchen, I will go get him.

Shane came out of the kitchen and walked into the living room. He said "
good morning sir may I help you."

Mr Fitzgerald held out his hand and asked " you are Shane? "

Shane answered " yes sir I am "

Mr Fitzgerald asked " may we sit for a moment? "

Shane excourted himto the chair and said " please sit down "

Mr Fitzgerald looked at Shane and said I am going to ask you to do
something very odd but would greatly like you to comply with my request.
He asked Shane to undo his belt and slide his pants down. Then turn around.

Shane looked at him and said " I usually don't take my pants down for
complete strangers.

Mr Fitzgerald said I think you will be please if you do.

Shane undid his belf slid his pants down and turned around as
Mr. FItzgerald had asked. He felt him lift the bottom of his boxers about
one inch and then said please pull your pants back up please. Shane pulled
them up and said " now you are going to tell me I have a nice butt.

Mr Fitzgerald smiled and said " well you do have a nice butt , I have seen
better, but not many worth as much as yours.

Shane asked " What are you talking about "

Mr Fitzgerald Passed away three days ago and after requesting a very
private service I was sent out to find you. You are the sole heir to his
fortune. I would be happy to stay on and represent you if you like.

Shane asked " Do my parents get anything? "

Mr Fitzgerald said " only if you want them to "

I have a credit/debit card here in your name for you to get ready and
purchase Items that you may need for school. This account is in your name
only and There will be no chance that you would ever run out of
money. Mr. McCarthy left you the sum of $ 17,000,000.00 dollars. If you
choose to keep the company there are people in place to oversee the day to
day running of the business. You may if you choose decide to sell the
company and take the money from the sale of the company.  My suggestion is
that you keep the company and continue to make money so you will always
have something to fall back on.

Shane said. I guess that you were very important to my grandfather, I would
like you to continue in that capacity for me as well.

Mr. Fitzgerald said " it would be my pleasure, He then handed Shane a cell
phone and said this has my number in it please feel free to call me anytime
you need me. With that He stood up Shook Shane's hand and said I will take
my leave and be in touch in a couple of days.  If you need me before that
just call. He turned around and walked out the front door.

Shane walked back into the kitchen and everyone there was concerned.

Lyle walked over and put his hand on Shane's shoulder and said " Are you
okay or would you like to be left alone."

Shane pulled Lyle into a hug and said 'Lyle I just had a feeling that you
would do or say something like that. I would like to say that I am very
grateful for what you just said. Now I would like you all to sit because I
have something I want to say. Mr. Fitzgerald was my late grandfathers
lawyer. My grandfather passed away three days ago, he came here to tell
me. He also want me to know that he left everything to me.

Lyle said " Shane I am very sorry you lost your grandfather, is there
anything I can do. "

Shane said " yes there is something you can all do.  You can all help me
celebrate the 17 millions dollars he just left me. "

Everyone's mouth dropped open. Lyle just stared at Shane, Kolby looked
amazed, and mom was shaking her head meanwhile Cory was rubbing his chin
and then said " Can I borrow a quarter? "

Shane then asked the boys to leae the room and asked dad to come in. When
dad got there he sat down and Shane told them what he had in mind. First He
wanted to know if they would be offended in he asked to have them take
Kolby to the Doctor to see if maybe they could do something to help him be
able to see.  Then He wanted to have the garage redone and made into a
small apartment for Kolby, Lyle and himself and saying possibly Cory as
well. He looked at mom and could see the tears building in her eyesand said
' Mom please I did not want to make you unhappy, please don't cry. "

Mom said " Shane you did not make me unhappy, You have made me very
happy. " We never thought that we would be able to do what you have just
offered and up until now we couldn't. Shane it is your money and no one can
tell you what to do, if you feel strongly about what you just said then I
will not say no. I will insist that if you proceed with this that you have
to be there for Kolby.

Shane got on the phone and called Mr Fitzgerald and told him what he would
like him do and Mr Fitzgerald said " That is something that your
grandfather would be very proud of and I will look in to it first thing in
the morning and get back to you by noon. They both said good -bye. The
wheels were now set in motion. Shane walked into the living room were the
boys were sittingand he walked over to where Lyle was sitting next to Kolby
and asked if he would move over.

Lyle slid over.

Shane took Kolby's hand and started to tell him want he planned to do. The
look on Kolby's face was much different than he thought it woiuld be. He
looked over at Lyle who was sitting there with his hands to his face and
was sobbing quietly. Shane was confused as to what was going on he thought
that everyone would be happy. Lyle was crying and Kolby looked scared to
death.

Kolby said " Shane Thank you but you have to understand how frightening
this is going to be for me. I have never been able to see and now the idea
that I will be able to finally see That my dear friend is very scary. Kolby
heard Lyle crying and reached out and pulled him over to him and said" And
as far as this little guy goes those I have no doubt are tears of joy " are
they not my friend?

Lyle said " I have never been so happy for anyone in my whole life, and to
be part of something that could be as great as this could be I am just
completely overwhelmed. "

Thinking back at what has happened so far today was something that Shane
was doing at the moment and life had changed so much in the period of just
a few hours. Everyone in the house was just abuzz. It really seemed that
everything was finally falling into place for Shane and his Friends and
specially for his boyfriend.  Shane offered to take everyone out to dinner
and when Mom said that maybe he should save his money, Shane rephrased his
question. He said I am taking everyony one out to dinner. He called Mr
Fitzgerald again and apologized for intruding on him again. Then asked what
he thought would be a nice restaurant to take everyone out to dinner.

Mr. Fitzgerald said I am glad to see you are starting to enjoy the gift
that your grandfather hope you could. He then said that " a favorite place
of your grandfather's was Louis George"s Itailian restaurant. Please tellme
how many and I will make the arrangerments.

Shane again thanked Mr Fitzgerald and hung up.

Mr Fitzgerald called back several minutes and said " dinner is set for
6:00, please have a good time. "

Shane looked at the clock and realized that since the news of all the money
had arrived that time was flying by. It was getting to be 3:00 and with
dinner and 6:00 People need to be taken home and then picked up and then
travel to the restaurant. Shane told Lyle and Cory to get their thins and
he would take them home so that then could clean up and change. COry was
dropped off first.Then Shane told Lyle about the garage apartment for all
three of them.

Lyle smiled and started to get teary eyed. He asked what did I do to
deserve someone as good as you.

Shane looked at Lyle and said what goes around comes around. I goota go.

Lyle got out and ran into the house.

Mom and dad decided that it would be better if they all went in one vehicle
and Shane could drive over pick up the boys and then bring them back to the
house and that would give them a little extra time to get ready. Shane had
showered and dressed and was on the way to pick up the boys. Lyle was first
and when he got in he looked a little down.

Shane asked ' something wrong "

My aunt wants my out as soon as possible.

Shane said. DOn't worry I have that coverd. If you have to you can sleep
with me and Kolby as long as we can have a 3 some.

Lyle looked over at Shane and had a very scared look onhis face.

Shane said " Only Kidding " then they pulled up in front of Cory's.

Cory came out got in and they were on the way back to get Kolby, mom and
dad. after they were in the van mom started out and headed for the
restaurant They had dinner and talked and on the way home they dropped off
Cory and then they all went back home and Lyle would stay there until the
garage was completed.

Kolby was the first to go to bed followed by Lyle and finally Shane.

they talked ery little and were nodding off one by one and it was not to
long before they were all asleep.
