Blind Leading The Blind    Chapter 18


Kolby tossed and turned all night long. Lyle was up most of the night as
well. Shane was the only one that got any sleep at all. Kolby laid
his head on Lyle's chest and started to sob softly. Lyle put his hand on
his back and rubbed lightly and hummed a tune trying to calm Kolby
down.

Shane woke up and headed for the bathroom and when he was finished he
walked back into the bedroom and saw Lyle doing his best to try
and comfort Kolby. From where he was standing it looked like Lyle was not
having much success.

Lyle said to Kolby I know that you may not think that a little kid like
me could imagine what you are going through but I know what it is like
to be scared. I know what it is like to not know what is going on. I also
know what it is like to feel helpless. I may be young and small but I
have gone through some pretty rough times.  He held Kolby tightly and
said and said " You at least have people that love you standing by your
side. " I really don't have anyone.

Kolby sat up and took Lyle in his arms and hugged him tightly and said I
would be very honored if you would join us on the trip to the doctor
this afternoon. I know that Shane and my parents love me but I need to
have your strength with me as well. " What do you say? "

Lyle said " I would consider it an honor to join you. "


Shane was standing there listening to the conversation between Lyle and
Kolby and was smiling. He was not offended that Kolby wanted
Lyle to be there in fact he was glad. I was wondering if you two are
going to school today or are you going to lay there half naked in each
others arm all day. that just might make my a little jealous.

Kolby said " that he was not going to school because he was up all night
as was Lyle. " I really don't think it would do much good for me to
go and sleep during class.

Shane said " why don't you two stay home and I will be here after school
and we can go to the doctors then. "

Lyle seeing that Kolby was starting to nod off a little said I will take
care of him today so you don't have to worry.

Shane was quietly getting his thing together and waved good bye to Lyle
and went down stairs and finished getting dressed and ready for school.
He went into the kitchen and got something to eat and then headed to
school.

Lyle was sitting on the bed holding Kolby and he was starting to get that
feeling that he had to pee. He want to go and take care of it but
was afraid that if he did he would wake Kolby up. after several minutes
it got to the point where if he did not go pretty soon he would wet
himself. He very slowly got out of bed and quietly headed for the
bathroom. He had to go so bad that when he finally let loose it sounded
like a horse pissing on a flat rock. When he finished he went back into
the bedroom and saw that Kolby was still sleeping soundly.

Shane had arrived at school and was headed for his second class when he
was approached by Cody. Shane asked him how he was doing?

Cody said I am doing fine and I just want you to know that you were right
about what I was doing to Lyle. I was beginning to take
advantage of him and I was having a hard time living with it. I am doing
much better now and I hope that one day I will be able to get back
together with him. I know that you may not think so but I really do love
him and I hope that by letting him go now he will come back to me later.

Shane said that all three of them are headed to an eye specialist to see
if anything can be done with Kolby's eyes and to see if there is a way
that he might be able to get his sight. Shane said " i am so excited that
I can hardly wait. "

Cody put his hand on Shane's shoulder and said " I will say a prayer for
him. "  Please tell him that he will be in my prayers, and tell Lyle
that I still love him and I hope that after I get my head on straight
that we might be able to get back together. If not then I guess that
I will hopfully have myseelf three really good friends.

Shane smiled and said " Cody You are on your way and I hope that you can
get it together soon. "  He then told Cody that he had to go
or he would be late for his next class. He said " good-bye and headed
down the hall.

Cody said " see you later and headed the other way. "

Shane was watching the clock in his last class and as it struck the last
second he was already on his way to the door. He ran down the hall and
out the door and to his car and was the first car out of the parking lot.
He was making good time back to the house and was hoping that Lyle had
made sure that Kolby was ready. He pulled into the drive and jumped out
of the car and ran to the door and went in side. When he
got inside he was surprised to see both Kolby and Lyle dressed and ready
to go. He said " I was hoping that you would be ready. "

Lyle smiled and said " It was not a problem he made sure we were done
having sex before noon so we had plenty of time to get ready. I
guess it worked out just fine. " What do you think Kolby?

Kolby said that they did manage to to get ready although they were having
a great time.

Shane had a very hurt look on his face and Lyle saw it.

Lyle said Shane I was only kidding I would never do that to you and I
would never take advantage of Kolby's friendship like that.

Kolby laughed and said " Shane I could not cheat on you.

Shane smiled and said " the funny thing is that you both thought I
believed you. I trust you both and That will never change.

They were sitting in the living room talking when they heard a car honk
its horn. Shane looked out the window and saw that the driver had
indeed arrived and told Kolby and Lyle that it was time to leave. The
headed out to the car and all piled in.  the driver said " good afternoon
"
and they buckled up and were in the way. Kolby was bettint more and more
nervous as they got closer and closer. Lyle who was sitting in the back
next to him leaded over and said " Kolby everything will be ok, now do
you think that you could squeeze my hand a little less so that I might
have some blood flow to my fingers. "

Kolby said " I'm sorry I was not thinking, "  or maybe I was thinking to
much.

the driver said that they had arrived and that he wopuld park and wait
for them to come out.

The three of them went inside and the nurse asked I they had an
appointment and Shane said " Yes. "

They nurse told them to have a seat and the doctor would be with them in
a moment. Several monents later a door opened and the doctor came out and
walked over to them and said " I am Dr. Stevens and Would you follow me
into the back. Shane stood and took Kolby's hand and they started to go
when the doctor said why don't you bring your other friend as well we
don't want him to sit out here by himself.
They went into the the office and the doctor explained what he was going
to do and that the tests that he would run would determine as
to wether he would be able to help Kolby. He asked Shane and Lyle to wait
in his office and took Kolby by the hand and said " please allow
me to lead you to the examination room. "  He lead Kolby out of the
office and Shane and Lyle were sitting there waiting for them to
return. the time passed and to Kolby it seemed like days. Shane and Lyle
were waiting and the time that passed seemed like hours. Finally
the doctor came in with Kolby and they sat down.

Shane being so nervous asked " what can you do, will you be able to help
him, how long will it take."

the doctor said " please slow down a moment and let me tell you my
findings. "  the doctor began by asking if Kolby had every had his eye
sight.

Kolby said " No "

The doctor said well then I am afraid that it may be several months
before you will be able to have sight in both eyes. we will take this
very slow to make sure that we do not do any damage in the process. the
way it will work is that you will have laser surgery on 1 eye at a time
and there will be several surgeries per eye. the eye that we start on
will have to stay bandaged from visit to visit. You will be give bandages
to replace and it is very important that you do not over sstress yourself
during the process.

Lyle was sitting in the chair next to Kolby on the left hand side and he
was so happy that he was sobboing quietly and the doctor looked at him
and said " son you should be happy and there is nothing to cry about. "

Kolby reached his arm out and put it around Lyle and told the doctor "
this little guy has gone through a lot and this I think is the first time
that he has been able to be happy about something that is this
important.  He then asked the doctor when they could start teh process.

The doctor said that he had an opening on Firady at 10:00 in the morning
and it would be better to start then because you would be able to rest
all weekend. the second surgery would be when the eye healed which should
be several weeks.

Kolby said " well I guess that we should get the show on the road and I
will be here Friday at 10:00. "

The doctor said  " I will see you then "

Shane stood  and shook the doctors hand and said " You can not imagine
the happiness you have give all of us ". I will be forever grateful.

The doctor said " You have noting to thank me for yet, wait till its over
then you can thank me, deal "

Shane said ' It's a deal, Doc. "

Lyle stood up and took Kolby's hand and they went in to waiting room. The
nurse called Shane over and said " how do you want to pay for this visit.
Shane took out his card and handed it to her and said " Here put it on
this. "  She said I will need to see your ID.  Shane took out his school
ID and handed it to the nurse and said that should take care of it. She
ran it through the machine and it was approved instantly.
Then the boys all headed out to the car for the ride home. On the way
home Kolby was just talking up a storm about how he would be able to see
in the next several months and Shane and Lyle were all but laughing
because he would not be quiet. They finally got home and the driver
opened the doors and said " Thank you sir and have a good day. "

Lyle said I am starving and ran in the house at least that was what Kolby
thought. Shane said " wait for me " Kolby stood there and he
Finally said out loud " hey someone want to give me a hand.

Shane who was standing jusy out of reach said " You already have two how
many more do you want. " He started laughing and then took
kolby by the haand and lead him into the house. they were headed up to
the door and Kolby said " Please let me tell mom and dad "

Shane said  " would not have it any otheer way. "

Kolby went in side and sat down in the living room and called mom and dad
in and told them what the doctor had said. He could hear mom
crying softly and dad was at a lose for words. He said mom and dad I owe
you so much. You have always been there for me and I swear that I will
make it up to you somehow.

Shane came into the living room and asked if all the mumbo jumbo was over
and they laughed and said " I guess we should eat. " Chicken
sounds good to me. They all agreed aand Shane took lyle by the hand and
said Lets go get some. We will be back in a couple minutes.
With that they headed out the door.

Lyle asked " why did I have to go ? "

Shane looked at him and Said " so they could have some time together
alone.  I am sure that this is going to be a big a shock on mom and dad
as it will be on Kolby. They just need some time to celebrate be
themselves. he looked at Lyle and smiled and said " besides I want you
so bad that I had to take you out of the house so we could be alone.

Lyle got a scared look on his face and said  " you will have to force me
to have sexx with you. "

Shane said " well that was refreshing because I really want to thank you
for all you have done for Kolby over the past couple days, " sez
had not crossed my mind.

Lyle smiled and said  " you just played me like a fool, you have to stop
that because sometimes I don't know when your kidding. "

Shane said  " good then you will always be on your toes won't you, " then
he winked.

They arrived at Brown's Chicken ordered the 20 piece meal with the tangy
cole slaw and corn on the cob.  The also got a couple 2 liter bottles of
soda and were on their back home. When they got back home they went in
and everyone ate and they spent the remainder of the evening sitting and
talking about the next few weeks and all the changes that there would
be . The evening slipped away and soon it was time to go to bed, everyone
headed for their rooms and were all sleeping in no time
