Damien and Alex

Part 5


DAMIEN

Well things seemed to settle down a bit when Jenny and Jay returned home.
All the others really weren't up to the nighttime feeds so I volunteered to
do them and let them do it the rest of the time and the other three agreed.
School on the other hand became an adventure in itself. James who just had
to have a hold whenever we walked into English had to be told on numerous
occasions to start the lesson. All the other teachers understood and it all
went without a hitch. Recess and lunch were spent in the common room with a
hundred people taking it turns to hold Jay on a daily bases and sometimes
the four of us were required to take Jay into the staff room so that the
teachers could do the same thing. Mrs. P made sure she got a hold daily and
James just made sure everyone knew he was family.
We started having a roster of where we went for tea it went
Monday - just the five of us in the unit
Tuesday - at Jenny's parent's house
Wednesday - at Denise's folk's home
Thursday and Friday - in the unit
Saturday - Lunch at Denise's folk's home and Tea at Jenny's folk's home
Sunday - Lunch and Tea at in the main house with my folks

It was all working at well until Easter rolled around and the four of us
decided that day had to be different, as all families would want to be
involved. Jenny and I thought about this one night while the others were
asleep and decided that we would have a picnic at the lake with all families
and make it up to my folks the next day.
When all arrangements were made the four of us went looking for gifts for
Easter. I decided with the help of Alex to get Jay something he could keep
forever. In the end we decided on a plush rabbit and a necklace that had a
heart pendant on it. On the heart I got in graved "Jay White-Alexander on
his first Easter love Daddy and Dad" we told the girls what we got and they
agreed that it was beautiful and Jenny asked "If we give you half the money
can we get Mum and Mummy on the end so it's a family gift?" we agreed and we
went in the next day to get the extra bit added on.
Easter morning rolled around and we passed around the eggs for each other
and put Jay's necklace on him and adjusted it as we were shown so it didn't
fall off of him. We then got everyone ready and headed to the lake to meet
up with the rest of the family. Nana Joy had decided to stay until after
Easter to head back to America so she was there as well. The four of us had
done the right thing giving each other only a couple of eggs as we were
given that many from our folks and James. All the grandparents had gotten
together so that we were able to get family portraits done in two days. We
thanked them all and we sat down to lunch. My dad didn't surprise me and
made an excellent lunch that all their thought it was delicious. Jenny gave
Jay his bottle before she had her lunch and I held him while she was eating
until he fell to sleep and I put him into the stroller.

ALEX
Well Easter came and went so fast that if we hadn't given Jay the necklace
and gotten the family portraits done we would have soon forgotten about it.
As for the night feedings I was glad to let Damien do as was Jenny and
Denise. School was turning out to be great and everyone really enjoyed
having Jay there with them. Two months after Easter was when my father
struck again. We were all at the supermarket eating lunch when Damien
noticed him and made us all move to a position where we couldn't be seen. He
started calling for Damien and Me but we refused to answer him. Jenny used
her mobile to call the police and they arrived before she was finished on
the phone and he was arrested once again. We all were so relieved but
decided to head home anyway.


DAMIEN
Well we had to see Alex's dad when we were out having a family day but
luckily he didn't see us. About a month after that I decided that I needed a
little time on my own and I went for a walk. I was just about to go pass the
cubby I had built when I was told to turn around. In front of me was Alex's
dad holding a knife. He lunched at me but I was able to move before it
touched me. We fought like that for an hour and in the end the police were
just about to break us apart when he slipped and the knife was forced into
his chest. The police ordered me home to inform the others that he was dead.
I walked home slowly deciding how to tell them. I walked into my folk's home
and asked six of them to come into the lounge room. When they were all
seated Jenny asked, "What's up Damien?" I turned to face Alex and James and
replied, "While I was out on my walk Mr. L found me and tried to kill me
with a knife. The fight lasted an hour and the police were stepping in to
arrest him when he slipped. The knife killed him when it went into his chest
the police and ambulance crews informed me" Alex rushed over to hug me just
as I blacked out.
I awoke to find myself in a hospital bed with Alex, Jenny, Denise and Jay
around me. I smiled and asked, "How long was I out?" Alex replied "Damien
you were unconscious for a week but luckily for you it is holiday time and
you didn't fall behind in class" we all laughed until I felt my throat was
dry and I grabbed the water jug and drank all the water that was in it.
The doctors forced me to stay in hospital another night but gave in when I
announced that I wanted to rest in my own bed where I could be comfortable.
My dad picked me up at two thirty in the morning because I told them "I need
to go home otherwise I won't be able to rest"
I walked into the unit just as Jay was waking up. I walked over and picked
him up and took him into have his bottle. I feed him on the couch and we
both fell asleep together. We awoke to Jenny screaming, "Where the hell is
Jay?" I sat up and answered, "Jay is here with me Jen" well she jumped a
mile high before saying "typical they cant keep you in a hospital any longer
then necessary. But how come you are both on the couch?" I smiled and
explained "I walked in just as Jay woke up for his bottle and we sat here so
he could have it and when he was finished we both laid down and fell asleep"
Alex walked in and replied "Well at least we know you are back to normal but
next time come and join me in bed" I laughed and gave Jenny Jay so she could
give him his morning bottle. Just then we heard a knock on the door so
Denise went and answered it to see it was my mum. I laughed and said, "I was
wondering how long I could be home before you came to see how I was" she
laughed and replied, "well we know you haven't changed" I then noticed dad
bringing down a huge meal with James helping him so I yelled out "Denise,
Alex and Jenny don't worry about fixing breakfast because it is just about
to enter the unit" all three came to see what I meant and laughed when they
saw the food. We set the table up so that we could all sit down together.



ALEX
Well dad walked towards the house with James helping with a huge meal so
Damien and I set the table for the seven of us. We all watched as mum
stuffed herself silly. When she noticed us looking she said, "Well I am
eating for two you know" we all laughed and finished eating.
After breakfast I noticed Damien was edgy and very different from how he
usually was so I grabbed his arm and lead him into the bedroom. "Ok babe
what's wrong?" I asked him upon entering the room. He looked at me and said,
"I don't know hun. But I can still see the knife coming straight for me and
it killing your dad"
I hugged him and he let all the tears fall. Then we heard a knock "Boys can
we come in?" it was everyone else. I went to open the door as Damien
straightened himself up. When we were all sitting Jay woke up and Jenny
passed him to Damien. "Ok guys what's up?" Damien asked. They all turned to
him and mum answered, "Well the five of us are worried about you" well the
look on his face was priceless. He then said, "Well as usual I found comfort
in my husband and it's all ok now"


DAMIEN
when mum told me the others were worried about me I lied to them when I said
"Well as usual I found comfort in my husband and it's all ok now" I feel bad
about it but I didn't want them worrying about me.
After a month the dreams were getting more and more but I just told the
others "I am worrying about school" as the exams were a week away.
When the exams were finished I had a breakdown and signed my self into Mount
Alogh (the place for those who have mental breakdowns/ problems)


ALEX
Things went horribly wrong when our exams finished. Damien was admitted to
Mount Alogh and I was scared. I mean usually he came to me if he had a
problem yet he didn't and ended up in there. Jenny and Denise helped me stay
on top of things but I could see the worry in their eyes too. We kept going
for Jay but we were visiting him daily. I knew he was glad to see us and Jay
but he kept saying "I will be out when I am better" this went on for four
years and I was so lonely that I even slept there with him a few days a
week. Jay always came straight after kinder to give him pictures, which he
had stuck up all over his wall to remind him of home.


DAMIEN
Well I stayed in the hospital for four years and I saw everyone daily
especially Alex. I felt bad about not being with him but I needed to get
well for everyone's sake. Jay started kinder and always did a picture for
me. Then one night while it was just Jay and myself I asked him "would you
like daddy to come home today?" he jumped up and yelled "yeah I would pappa
is very lonely too" I laughed and said "well we better pack" he helped me
get all his pictures and put them into my case and then we walked home. When
we got to the door I knocked on it. "Hang on I will be right there," Jenny
yelled and both Jay and I giggled quietly. When she opened the door her jaw
dropped and I said "I found this one and brought him home" she still stood
there so I asked, "Can we come in Jen?" she nodded and we walked in. "so
when did you get out Damien?" I laughed and said, "Just before Jay arrived
for his visit. He even helped me pack to come home"
I heard a car pull up so I looked out the window and saw Alex so I said to
Jay and Jen, "lets surprise him tell him to come into the bedroom but don't
say why" they nodded. When Alex walked in Jen said to him "you need to get
something out of your room please. Jay brought you home something from
Damien and we sat it in there, and we want to know what it is"
Well he walked in and saw me and jumped on the bed and I whispered "surprise
hun I am home for good" he hugged me that hard that Jay asked "pappa why is
daddy going blue?" well Alex loosened his grip and smiled I pulled Jay into
our arms and said "thanks for helping me surprise the guys kiddo" he just
smiled and we heard Denise walk in and yell, "where is everyone?" Jen yelled
out, "we are in the guys room" she walked in, saw me and her jaw dropped to
the ground. I laughed and said "that's two out of three jaws that dropped
the third was too busy kissing to drop" well that made all three of them
laugh. Knock, knock. I laughed and said, "geez I just get home and we are
getting visitors. Jen opened the door and standing there was my mum, dad and
James. I laughed from the room as Jen said, "hi guys" they all looked
confused as the four from the room walked out me carrying Jay. He yelled
"grandma, grandpa Uncle James look who I brought home" Jay jumped down
dragging me too the front. Well the hugs started but luckily they didn't hug
me as hard as Alex had. Jay saw it and yelled out, "see pappa they hug daddy
and don't make him go blue" we all laughed at that and I pulled Jay close
and said "its ok son he really missed me and was really glad I was home" he
smiled and said "well I did too but didn't make you go blue" I just hugged
him and then said "I am now home for good guys and thanks for taking care of
this crew and this little angel for me" they all nodded and we had a group
hug and I had Jay one side and Alex the other.
After we finished the hug I saw a little girl walking towards the house. I
went out to meet her.
As she reached where I was I said "hi lil sis" she smiled and hugged me. I
then whispered "can you please stop picking on your nephew?" she laughed and
I carried her back into the unit.
Mum laughed and said, "now the whole family is here" I nodded then said
"well you should have brought her with you before" dad replied "we didn't
know you were here" we laughed as I replied "nah you walk in just two
minutes after I get here"
Later that night when Jay was asleep Alex and I made love for the first time
in four years and I was so happy that I let him just do it and I laid there
and relaxed. We went for it for an hour before falling asleep.
At around two am I heard a whisper can I jump in with you daddy I had a
nightmare. I shuffled over waking Alex and I told what was going on and he
moved over while Jay jumped in and I cuddled him for the rest of the night.
In the morning when Jen went to wake Jay up she found him missing form his
bed and came to check our room. She laughed when she saw him under my arms
asleep. I asked her, "does he need to get up for kinder?" she nodded and I
replied "I will get him up" as she walked out the door I nudged Jay saying
"come on kiddo you have kinder and I need you too show me how to get there"
she woke up and dragged me into his room to help him get dressed.
Once he was dressed and eating his breakfast I went to get dressed. Just as
it was time to leave Jen came out and said "I will walk with you two as I
need to do some shopping" as we got to the kinder Jay dragged me over to his
teacher to introduce me. When I got there I saw it was Chris my old mentor
when I was in year 7. I said "Hi Chris I see you get to help my son now" he
laughed and said "yea but at least he doesn't think of Alex while we are
together" I laughed and said "nah he thinks of me" well Chris and Jen
laughed at that and Jay went to find his friends. Chris then said "well I am
glad to see you are at home with your whole family and not in that hospital"
I smiled and said "thanks I am planning on a surprise tonight for them" he
gave me a questioning look so I added "I will let you know when I pick Jay
up"
The whole time we were shopping Jen keep trying to get me to drop a hint as
to what the surprise was and I kept my mouth shut the whole time.
When we got home Jen told the other two what I had said and I continued to
say nothing. Alex tried to get me to let it slip to him but I whispered
"it's a surprise babe" they all ended up giving up trying knowing that I
wasn't giving in.
That afternoon when I went to get Jay Chris asked, "So what have planned?" I
whispered "Family photos. We haven't had them since not long after Jay was
born and I plan to get them done now" he nodded and I drove home to pick up
the others.
I drove around for half an hour before pulling up in the parking lot for the
photo shop. Alex realized straight away but the girls and Jay were confused.
As we were entering the girls clicked and Jay smiled seeing the cameras.
"Good afternoon Sirs and Madams how can I help you?" asked the guy at the
desk. I went to him and said, "Hi my name is Damien Alexander and I have a
booking for three o'clock" the guy at the desk checked and confirmed what I
had said and led us to the prep room.
An hour later we were heading home after doing dozens of photos and Jay was
falling asleep. But when we pulled up and he saw Ashley standing there
waiting for us he woke right up.
When we were parked she ran up and announced "Mummy and Daddy want to see
you all inside" well we let her lead us inside to find out what was going
on. Mum had a worried look on her face and so did dad so I asked, "What's
going on?" mum looked down so dad said "It seems a guy that knew Alex's dad
has been released from jail and we have received this letter" I took the
letter from him and read
Dear Damien and Alex,
As you have made it impossible for Mr. L to complete the job of killing you
I intend to do the job for him
Signed You Know Who Damien
Well I knew exactly who it was and I freaked and so did Jenny, as it was the
guy that had raped her and made it possible for us to have Jay.
Mum and dad asked, "Who is he Damien?" I turned to Jen as if to seek her
approval. She nodded then took both Jay and Ashley into the other room as I
explained "there is only one guy it could be and that is the guy that
attacked Jenny and made her pregnant" well that made all of them nervous
especially Denise as she knew how hard it had been for Jenny when it
happened.
When we got back to the unit I took jenny into my room and just held her
while all the tears fell. Both Denise and Alex came in at one stage but let
me handle it as I was that had helped her through it last time.
